Raag Goojree, Fifth Guru:
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਨਿਸਿ ਅਰੁ ਭੋਰ ॥
kar kirpaa apnaa daras deejai jas gaava-o nis ar bhor.
O’ God, bestow mercy and grant me Your vision ; bless me, that I may keep singing Your praises night and day.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਕੇਸ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਾਸ ਪਗ ਝਾਰਉ ਇਹੈ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਮੋਰ ॥੧॥
kays sang daas pag jhaara-o ihai manorath mor. ||1||
This is the purpose of my life, that I may keep serving Your devotees with such humility as if I am wiping their feet with my hair.
ਆਪਣੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਝਾੜਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ-ਬੱਸ! ਇਹ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ॥੧॥
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੀਆ ਨ ਹੋਰ ॥
thaakur tujh bin bee-aa na hor.
O’ Master, without You, there is none other to support me.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਚਿਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨ ਅਰਾਧਉ ਨਿਰਖਉ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਓਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chit chitva-o har rasan araaDha-o nirkha-o tumree or. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, in my mind I remember You, with my tongue I meditate upon You and look only to You for any help. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ) ਤੇਰੇ ਵਲ ਹੀ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਰਬ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ॥
da-i-aal purakh sarab kay thaakur bin-o kara-o kar jor.
O’ merciful Master of all, I make this supplication with folded hands,
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਉਧਰਸਿ ਆਖੀ ਫੋਰ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੨੦॥
naam japai naanak daas tumro uDhras aakhee for. ||2||11||20||
that Your devotee Nanak may keep meditating on Your Name; because one who does that, in an instant, swims across the worldly ocean of vices.||2||11||20|
(ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੇ। (ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਏਗਾ॥੨॥੧੧॥੨੦॥

Raag Goojaree, Fifth Guru:
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲੋਕ ਅਰੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਆਈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਧਾਇ ॥
barahm lok ar rudr lok aa-ee indar lok tay Dhaa-ay.
After conquering the realms of gods Brahma, Shiva, and Indira, Maya, the obsession for worldly riches and power, has attacked the human world.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਪੁਰੀ, ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਪੁਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ-ਪੁਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੱਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਲ ਆਈ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
saaDhsangat ka-o johi na saakai mal mal Dhovai paa-ay. ||1||
But it cannot cast its evil glance on the congregation of God loving people; instead it serves them with such humility, as if it massages and washes their feet. ||1||
(ਪਰ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਲ (ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਤੱਕ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਧੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਆਇ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥
ab mohi aa-ay pari-o sarnaa-ay.
Now, I have come and entered the Guru’s refuge.
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਹਜ ਪਾਵਕੋ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਰੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਹੈ ਬਤਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guhaj paavko bahut parjaarai mo ka-o satgur dee-o hai bataa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have realized that this hidden fire of desires have tortured many people; the true Guru has taught me a way to escape it. ||1||Pause||
ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਅੱਗ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾੜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਦੱਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਅਰੁ ਜਖ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਕਿੰਨਰ ਨਰ ਰਹੀ ਕੰਠਿ ਉਰਝਾਇ ॥
siDh saaDhik ar jakh-y kinnar nar rahee kanth urjhaa-ay.
Maya has put its stranglehold on the adepts, strivers, celestial singers, angels, and the mortals.
ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ, ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਧੂ, ਜਖ੍ਯ੍ਯ, ਕਿੰਨਰ, ਮਨੁੱਖ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਗੁ ਕੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਐਸੀ ਦਾਸਾਇ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੨੧॥
jan naanak ang kee-aa parabh kartai jaa kai kot aisee daasaa-ay. ||2||12||21||
O’ Nanak, His devotees have the support of that Creator-God, who has millions of servants like Maya. ||2||12||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਦਾਸੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੨੧॥

Raag Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਪਜਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਗਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
apjas mitai hovai jag keerat dargeh baisan paa-ee-ai.
By remembering God, ill repute is erased, one earns glory in the world and a place in God’s presence.
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਲਈ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਖ ਅਨਦ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
jam kee taraas naas ho-ay khin meh sukh anad saytee ghar jaa-ee-ai. ||1||
The fear of death is removed in an instant and with peace and bliss one goes to the final abode (God’s presence). ||1||
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਖ ਅਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਘਾਲ ਨ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
jaa tay ghaal na birthee jaa-ee-ai.
The hard work of meditation does not go in vain,
ਜਿਸ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aath pahar simrahu parabh apnaa man tan sadaa Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
therefore, we should remember our God at all times and we should keep contemplating Him in our heart and mind. ||1||Pause||
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ। ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੋਹਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
mohi saran deen dukh bhanjan tooN deh so-ee parabh paa-ee-ai.
O’ the destroyer of sufferings of the meek, I have come to Your refuge; Your beings receive only what You give them.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਹ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈਐ ॥੨॥੧੩॥੨੨॥
charan kamal naanak rang raatay har daasah paij rakhaa-ee-ai. ||2||13||22||
O’ Nanak, Your devotees are imbued with the love of Your Name: O’ God, preserve the honor of Your devotees. ||2||13||22||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ। ॥੨॥੧੩॥੨੨॥

Raag Goojree, Fifth Guru:
ਬਿਸ੍ਵੰਭਰ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
bisamvbhar jee-an ko daataa bhagat bharay bhandaar.
God, the sustainer of the world is the benefactor of all beings; His treasures are brimful with the wealth of devotional worship.
ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਧਨ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਫਲ ਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
jaa kee sayvaa nifal na hovat khin meh karay uDhaar. ||1||
His devotional worship never goes waste; in an instant, He ferries them across the worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ, (ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ) ਉਹ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੁ ॥
man mayray charan kamal sang raach.
O’ my mind, immerse yourself in the love of God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਸਗਲ ਜੀਅ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਰਾਧਹਿ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਚੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal jee-a jaa ka-o aaraaDheh taahoo ka-o tooN jaach. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Seek from that God who is worshipped by all beings. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
naanak saran tumHaaree kartay tooN parabh paraan aDhaar.
O’ the Creator, Nanak has entered Your refuge: O’ God, You are the support of my life.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੨੩॥
ho-ay sahaa-ee jis tooN raakhahi tis kahaa karay sansaar. ||2||14||23||
O’ God, he who is protected by You, what can the entire world do to him? ||2||14||23||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੨੩॥

Raag Goojree, Fifth Guru:
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਆਪ ॥
jan kee paij savaaree aap.
God Himself has protected the honor of His humble devotee.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਪ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਉਤਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਸਭੁ ਤਾਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har naam dee-o gur avkhaDh utar ga-i-o sabh taap. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru has given the elixir of God’s Name as medicine and the fever has come down. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਤਾਪ (ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਰਖਿਓ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
harigobind rakhi-o parmaysar apunee kirpaa Dhaar.
Showing His mercy, the all-pervading God has saved Hargobind.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ (ਜੀ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪ (ਚੇਚਕ ਦੇ ਤਾਪ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਮਿਟੀ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
mitee bi-aaDh sarab sukh ho-ay har gun sadaa beechaar. ||1||
By always reflecting on the virtues of God, the disease is over and there is joy all around. ||1||
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ, ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਹੋ ਗਏ।॥੧॥
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਕਰਤੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
angeekaar kee-o mayrai kartai gur pooray kee vadi-aa-ee.
This is the greatness of the perfect Guru, that my Creator has helped me.

ਕਬਹੂ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚੀਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
kabhoo har si-o cheet na laa-i-o.
One never attunes his mind to God.
(ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ) ਕਦੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦਾ।
