ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
aapay aap sagal meh aap.
He is all by himself, and pervades in all.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੇਵਲ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਰਚਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥
anik jugat rach thaap uthaap.
In countless ways, He creates and destroys the universe.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਖੰਡ ॥
abhinaasee naahee kichh khand.
He is Imperishable; and nothing of Him perishes.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,
ਧਾਰਣ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥
Dhaaran Dhaar rahi-o barahmand.
He Himself is planning and supporting the universe.
ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
alakh abhayv purakh partaap.
Incomprehensible and unfathomable is the Glory of God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਏ ਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਪ ॥੬॥
aap japaa-ay ta naanak jaap. ||6||
O Nanak, as He inspires, so do we meditate on Him. ||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੁ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥
jin parabh jaataa so sobhaavant.
Those who have realized God are glorious.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਮੰਤ ॥
sagal sansaar uDhrai tin mant.
Their teachings save the entire world from the vices.
ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਨ ॥
parabh kay sayvak sagal uDhaaran.
God’s devotees are able to redeem everybody from vices.
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਜੋਗੇ ਹਨ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਨ ॥
parabh kay sayvak dookh bisaaran.
God’s servants are capable of eliminating sorrows of everybody.
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਭ ਦੇਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
aapay mayl la-ay kirpaal.
The Merciful God Himself unites them with Him.
(ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਪਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
gur kaa sabad jap bha-ay nihaal.
By lovingly meditating on the Guru’s Word, they feel delighted.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਫੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ) ਖਿੜ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਉਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋਈ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
un kee sayvaa so-ee laagai.
He alone gets to serve those devotees of God,
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਸੇਵਕਾਂ) ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਡਭਾਗੈ ॥
jis no kirpaa karahi badbhaagai.
Who has good fortune and is blessed by You.
ਜਿਸ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
naam japat paavahi bisraam.
By lovingly meditating on God’s Name, the devotees obtain peace.
(ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਉ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੭॥
naanak tin purakh ka-o ootam kar maan. ||7||
O’ Nanak, respect those persons as the most noble. ||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਮਝੋ l
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
jo kichh karai so parabh kai rang.
Whatever a devotee does, is out of love for God,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
sadaa sadaa basai har sang.
and he always remains in the presence of God.
ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
sahj subhaa-ay hovai so ho-ay.
Whatever happens intuitively, he accepts it as God’s will
ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
karnaihaar pachhaanai so-ay.
and acknowledges Him as the Creator.
ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਜਨ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥
parabh kaa kee-aa jan meeth lagaanaa.
The devotees gladly accept whatever God does,
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੈਸਾ ਸਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਨਾ ॥
jaisaa saa taisaa daristaanaa.
because He appears to them just as He is.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ) ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
jis tay upjay tis maahi samaa-ay.
From whom they are born, they stay immersed in Him.
ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਓਇ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਉਨਹੂ ਬਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
o-ay sukh niDhaan unhoo ban aa-ay.
They become the treasure of peace and they alone are worthy of this status.
ਉਹ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਦਰਜਾ ਫੱਬਦਾ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
aapas ka-o aap deeno maan.
God gives honor to Himself by honoring the devotees.
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਮਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੧੪॥
naanak parabh jan ayko jaan. ||8||14||
O’ Nanak, deem God and the devotee as one and the same.||8||14||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਸਮਝੋ l

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ॥
sarab kalaa bharpoor parabh birthaa jaananhaar.
God is totally imbued with all powers; He is the Knower of our pains and sorrows.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
jaa kai simran uDhree-ai nanak tis balihaar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, we should dedicate ourself to the Almighty God, meditation on whom saves us from vices.||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਈਏ l

ਟੂਟੀ ਗਾਢਨਹਾਰ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥
tootee gaadhanhaar gopaal.
God Himself is capable of reuniting our alienated heart with Him.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਟੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੰਢਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
sarab jee-aa aapay partipaal.
He Himself looks after all beings.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ (ਭੀ ਆਪ) ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ
sagal kee chintaa jis man maahi.,
God has the care of all in His mind.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ (ਦੀ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ) ਦਾ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
tis tay birthaa ko-ee naahi.
No one is turned away from Him.
ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਦਰ) ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਾ-ਉਮੈਦ ਨਹੀਂ (ਆਉਂਦਾ)।
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
ray man mayray sadaa har jaap.
O’ my mind, always lovingly remember God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਪ,
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
abhinaasee parabh aapay aap.
The Imperishable God is all in all.
ਉਹ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
aapan kee-aa kachhoo na ho-ay.
By one’s own actions, nothing is accomplished,
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ,
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
jay sa-o paraanee lochai ko-ay.
even though the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰੇ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ ॥
tis bin naahee tayrai kichh kaam.
Besides Him, nothing else is of real use to you.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੇਰੇ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
gat naanak jap ayk har naam. ||1||
O’ Nanak, you would be saved only by meditating on God’s Name. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਤਾਂ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ l
ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
roopvant ho-ay naahee mohai.
One who is good-looking should not be vain;
ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ (ਰੂਪ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
parabh kee jot sagal ghat sohai.
because God’s light is shining in everyone.
ਕਿਉਂਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸੋਭਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੈ ॥
Dhanvantaa ho-ay ki-aa ko garbai.
Why should anyone be arrogant of being rich?
ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਦਰਬੈ ॥
jaa sabh kichh tis kaa dee-aa darbai.
When all riches are His gifts.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ?
ਅਤਿ ਸੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
at sooraa jay ko-oo kahaavai.
If one calls oneself extremely brave,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਬੜਾ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਅਖਵਾਏ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
parabh kee kalaa binaa kah Dhaavai.
he should realize that without the gift of God’s Power, what can he do?
(ਤਾਂ ਰਤਾ ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਸੋਚੇ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ (ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਤਾਕਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
jay ko ho-ay bahai daataar.
One who gives charity and then brags about becoming a benefactor,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ (ਧਨਾਢ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਦਾਤਾ ਬਣ ਬੈਠੇ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
tis daynhaar jaanai gaavaar.
such fool should recognize that God is the only benefactor of all.
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣੇ ਜੋ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੂਟੈ ਹਉ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
jis gur parsaad tootai ha-o rog.
By the Guru’s Grace, whose malady of ego is cured,
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਰੋਗ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਰੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
naanak so jan sadaa arog. ||2||
O’ Nanak, that person is forever spiritually healthy. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰੋਆ ਹੈ
ਜਿਉ ਮੰਦਰ ਕਉ ਥਾਮੈ ਥੰਮਨੁ ॥
ji-o mandar ka-o thaamai thamman.
just as a pillar supports the roof of a house,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਘਰ (ਦੇ ਛੱਤ) ਨੂੰ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ ॥
ti-o gur kaa sabad maneh asthamman.
similarly the Guru’s word provides support to the mind.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਨਾਵ ਚੜਿ ਤਰੈ ॥
ji-o paakhaan naav charh tarai.
Just as a stone placed in a boat crosses over the river,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਬੇੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਨਦੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਗਤੁ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥
paraanee gur charan lagat nistarai.
Similarly by closely following the Guru’s teachings eve a stone hearted mortal crosses over the worldly ocean of vices.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੰਦਾ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

Just as darkness gets illuminated by the lamp,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੀਵਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
gur darsan daykh man ho-ay bigaas.
similarly the mind gets delighted, beholding the Guru’s sight.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜਾਉ (ਪੈਦਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
ji-o mahaa udi-aan meh maarag paavai.
Just as someone finds a path through the great wilderness,
ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਵੱਡੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ (ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ) ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭ ਪਏ,
ਤਿਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥
ti-o saaDhoo sang mil jot paragtaavai.
Similarly divine light becomes manifest in the company of the Saints.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
tin santan kee baachha-o Dhoor.
I seek the humble service of those Saints;
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
naanak kee har lochaa poor. ||3||
O’ God, please fulfill this desire of Nanak ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਾਹਸ਼ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ l
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ ॥
man moorakh kaahay billaa-ee-ai.
O’ my foolish mind, why do you cry and moan?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ?
