ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
ant nahee kichh paaraavaaraa.
There is no end or limitation of His power.
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ) ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੱਦ-ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਧਰ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥
hukmay Dhaar aDhar rahaavai.
By His order, He established the earth, and He maintains it without any physical support.
ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
hukmay upjai hukam samaavai.
What is created by His order, ultimately, merges back into Him by His order.
ਜੋ ਕੁਛ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
hukmay ooch neech bi-uhaar.
It is by his order that people conduct themselves as high or low.
ਉੱਚੇ ਤੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥
hukmay anik rang parkaar.
By His order, many kinds of fun and frolics are performed.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਡ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kar kar daykhai apnee vadi-aa-ee.
Having created the creation, He beholds His own greatness.
ਆਪਣੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ (ਦੇ ਕੰਮ) ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
naanak sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||1||
O’ Nanak, He is pervading in all. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ l
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
parabh bhaavai maanukh gat paavai.
If it pleases God, mortal attains a high spiritual state.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਥਰ ਤਰਾਵੈ ॥
parabh bhaavai taa paathar taraavai.
If God so wills, He emancipates even the stone-hearted (brutal) people.
ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ -ਦਿਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਸ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
parabh bhaavai bin saas tay raakhai.
If it pleases God, He keeps a person alive even without breath.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ (ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਭਾਖੈ ॥
parabh bhaavai taa har gun bhaakhai.
If it pleases God, then one sings God’s praises.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥
parabh bhaavai taa patit uDhaarai.
If it pleases God, He saves even the sinners from vices.
ਜੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਗਿਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਚਲਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੈ ਆਪਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥
aap karai aapan beechaarai.
Whatever He does is according to His own thoughts.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਚ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਕਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
duhaa siri-aa kaa aap su-aamee.
He Himself is the Master of both worlds (the world here and hereafter).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ l
ਖੇਲੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
khaylai bigsai antarjaamee.
The knower of all hearts plays the worldly drama and enjoys watching it.
ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪ ਜਗਤ-ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
jo bhaavai so kaar karaavai.
Whatever He wishes, He makes the person do that deed.
ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
naanak daristee avar na aavai. ||2||
O’ Nanak, I see no other like Him. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ
ਕਹੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈ ॥
kaho maanukh tay ki-aa ho-ay aavai.
Tell me, what can a human being do on his own?
ਦੱਸੋ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ) ਕੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so-ee karaavai.
Whatever pleases God, He gets that done from the mortals.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਲੇਇ ॥
is kai haath ho-ay taa sabh kichh lay-ay.
If it were in the mortal’s hand, he would grab everything.
ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਸਾਂਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ l
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so-ee karay-i.
But God does whatever pleases Him.
(ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਜਾਨਤ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਚੈ ॥
anjaanat bikhi-aa meh rachai.
Because of ignorance, one is engrossed in Maya (worldly illusions).
ਮੂਰਖਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜੇ ਜਾਨਤ ਆਪਨ ਆਪ ਬਚੈ ॥
jay jaanat aapan aap bachai.
If he knew better, he would save himself from it.
ਜੇ ਸਮਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ (ਇਸ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹੇ;
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa dah dis Dhaavai.
Deluded by doubt, he wanders around in all directions.
ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੁੱਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਿਰ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
nimakh maahi chaar kunt fir aavai.
In a moment the mind circles around the four corners of the world.
ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਚਹੁੰ ਕੂਟਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੱਜ ਦੌੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
kar kirpaa jis apnee bhagat day-ay.
Those whom God mercifully blesses with His devotional worship,
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੇਇ ॥੩॥
naanak tay jan naam milay-ay. ||3||
O’ Nanak, they remain merged in Naam. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਨੀਚ ਕੀਟ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ॥
khin meh neech keet ka-o raaj.
In an instant, He can make a worm like lowly person a king,
ਖਿਣ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੀੜੇ (ਵਰਗੇ) ਨੀਵੇਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ॥
paarbarahm gareeb nivaaj.
The Supreme God is the Protector of the humbly poor.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
jaa kaa darisat kachhoo na aavai.
Even the one who seems to have no virtues,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਆਉਂਦਾ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥
tis tatkaal dah dis paragtaavai.
In an instant God makes him popular everywhere.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਉੱਘਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਬਖਸੀਸ ॥
jaa ka-o apunee karai bakhsees.
The one upon whom He bestows His blessings,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਨ ਗਨੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥
taa kaa laykhaa na ganai jagdees.
The Master of the world does not hold him to his account.
ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਣਦਾ
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
jee-o pind sabh tis kee raas.
Soul and body are all His property bestowed upon a mortal.
ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
ghat ghat pooran barahm pargaas.
Each and every heart is illuminated by the all Pervading Perfect God.
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਲਵਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਨੀ ਬਣਤ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
apnee banat aap banaa-ee.
He has created His creation all by Himself,
ਇਹ (ਜਗਤ-) ਰਚਨਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੪॥
naanak jeevai daykh badaa-ee. ||4||
O’ Nanak, He is rejoicing while beholding His greatness
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣੀ (ਇਸ) ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
ਇਸ ਕਾ ਬਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਸੁ ਹਾਥ ॥
is kaa bal naahee is haath.
The mortal’s power is not in his control,
ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ॥
karan karaavan sarab ko naath.
the One Master of all is the Doer and the cause of causes.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ।
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
aagi-aakaaree bapuraa jee-o.
The helpless mortal is subject to His command,
ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਫੁਨਿ ਥੀਉ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so-ee fun thee-o.
because ultimately that which pleases Him is what happens.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਓਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਬਹੂ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ॥
kabhoo ooch neech meh basai.
A human being sometimes is in an optimistic state, and sometimes in a pessimistic mood.
ਕਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਉਚਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਨੀਚਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਸੈ ॥
kabhoo sog harakh rang hasai.
Sometimes, he appears sad and other times he appears to be laughing with joy.
ਕਦੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਮੌਜ ਵਿਚ ਹੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
kabhoo nind chind bi-uhaar.
Sometimes one indulges in slander and speaks ill of others.
ਕਦੇ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਵਿਚਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਬਹੂ ਊਭ ਅਕਾਸ ਪਇਆਲ ॥
kabhoo oobh akaas pa-i-aal.
Sometimes he feels so elated as if flying high in the sky, and sometimes so depressed as if in the depth of nether-world.
ਕਦੇ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ) ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਚਾ (ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਕਦੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ) ਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ (ਡਿੱਗਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ);
ਕਬਹੂ ਬੇਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
kabhoo baytaa barahm beechaar.
Sometimes he acts as if he knows all about the divine knowledge.
ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰ ॥੫॥
naanak aap milaavanhaar. ||5||
O’ Nanak, God Himself unites human beings with Himself. ||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ
ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥
kabhoo nirat karai baho bhaat.
Sometimes, the mortal dances in various ways.
ਕਦੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤ੍ਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
kabhoo so-ay rahai din raat.
Sometimes he remain asleep day and night in state of ignorance.
ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਬਹੂ ਮਹਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥
kabhoo mahaa kroDh bikraal.
Sometimes he looks dreadful in terrible rage.
ਕਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ) ਬੜਾ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ (ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਕੀ ਹੋਤ ਰਵਾਲ ॥
kabahooN sarab kee hot ravaal.
Sometimes he becomes the dust of the feet of all (extremely humble).
ਕਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਬਡ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
kabhoo ho-ay bahai bad raajaa.
Sometimes, he poses like a great king.
ਕਦੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਬਹੁ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਨੀਚ ਕਾ ਸਾਜਾ ॥
kabahu bhaykhaaree neech kaa saajaa.
Sometimes he assumes the disposition of lowly beggar.
ਕਦੇ ਇਕ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਗ (ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ);
ਕਬਹੂ ਅਪਕੀਰਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
kabhoo apkeerat meh aavai.
Sometimes he falls into evil repute (by doing evil deeds).
ਕਦੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਬਹੂ ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
kabhoo bhalaa bhalaa kahaavai.
Sometimes, he acts in a way that he is praised by all.
ਕਦੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਅਖਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਵ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ॥
ji-o parabh raakhai tiv hee rahai.
In whatever state God keeps, the mortal lives in that state.
ਜੀਵ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ॥੬॥
gur parsaad naanak sach kahai. ||6||
O’ Nanak, only a rare person meditates on God by the Guru’s grace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਬਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੁ ॥
kabhoo ho-ay pandit karay bakh-yaan.
Sometimes, as a pundit he preaches others.
ਕਦੇ ਪੰਡਤ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਬਹੂ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਲਾਵੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
kabhoo moniDhaaree laavai Dhi-aan.
Sometimes becoming a silent sage, he enters into meditation.
ਕਦੇ ਮੋਨੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ;
ਕਬਹੂ ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥
kabhoo tat tirath isnaan.
At times he resides and bathes at places of pilgrimage.
ਕਦੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਬਹੂ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
kabhoo siDh saaDhik mukh gi-aan.
Sometimes as an adept and sometimes as a seeker he talks about spirituality.
ਕਦੇ ਸਿੱਧ ਤੇ ਸਾਧਿਕ (ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਕਬਹੂ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਆ ॥
kabhoo keet hasat patang ho-ay jee-aa.
Sometimes, he becomes worm, elephant, or moth,
ਕਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਭੰਬਟ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਜੀਵ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮੀਆ ॥
anik jon bharmai bharmee-aa.
and confused by doubts he wanders through countless existences.
ਅਤੇ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਕਈ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਉਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
