Pauree:
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਹ ਰਚਹੁ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਬੰਧਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
ray man bin har jah rachahu tah tah banDhan paahi.
O’ my mind, except God, whatever you become attached would put you in more bonds of Maya.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਜਿਥੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਏਂਗਾ, ਉਥੇ ਉਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਪੈਣਗੇ।
ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇਊ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
jih biDh kathoo na chhootee-ai saakat tay-oo kamaahi.
The faithless cynics do those very things from which they can never be released.
ਹਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਾਹ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਰਤ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਭਾਰੁ ਅਫਾਰ ॥
ha-o ha-o kartay karam rat taa ko bhaar afaar.
Acting in egotism, the lovers of rituals bear an unendurable load of ego.
ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ, ਜੋ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਅਸਹਿ ਬੋਝ ਬਰਦਾਸ਼ਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਉ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਤਉ ਏਊ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
pareet nahee ja-o naam si-o ta-o ay-oo karam bikaar.
If there is no love for Naam then these rituals become useless
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਕਰਮ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਾਧੇ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਮੀਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ॥
baaDhay jam kee jayvree meethee maa-i-aa rang.
The rope of death binds those who are in love with the sweet taste of Maya.
ਮਿੱਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕੌਤਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੇ ਮੋਹੇ ਨਹ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਹੂ ਸੰਗ ॥
bharam kay mohay nah bujheh so parabh sadhoo sang.
Deluded by doubt, they do not understand that God is always with them.
ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।
ਲੇਖੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਕਾਚੀ ਭੀਤਿ ਨ ਸੁਧਿ ॥
laykhai ganat na chhootee-ai kaachee bheet na suDh.
We can’t be emancipated if our misdeeds are taken into account. We are like that wall of mud which cannot be washed clean.
ਸਾਡੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੁਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਾਡੀ ਬਰੀਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਤਿਆਂ ਗਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਦੀ ਸਫ਼ਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ l
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤਿਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੁਧਿ ॥੯॥
jisahi bujhaa-ay naankaa tih gurmukh nirmal buDh. ||9||
O’ Nanak, only the one whom God Himself makes to understand, his intellect becomes immaculate through the Guru’s teachings.||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ

ਟੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜਾਸੁ ਕੇ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
tootay banDhan jaas kay ho-aa saaDhoo sang.
One who is blessed with the holy congregation, his worldly bonds are cut.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟਣ ਤੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਏਕ ਕੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੂੜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
jo raatay rang ayk kai naanak goorhaa rang. ||1||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with the love of God, their love is so deep that it never fades. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਰੰਗ ਐਸਾ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਉਤਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ l

ਰਾਰਾ ਰੰਗਹੁ ਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
raaraa rangahu i-aa man apnaa.
Rarra (alphabet): Imbue this mind of yours with God’s love,
ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ l
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ॥
har har naam japahu jap rasnaa.
by repeatedly uttering God’s Name with your tongue.
ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪ।
ਰੇ ਰੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
ray ray dargeh kahai na ko-oo.
Then nobody will address you with disrespect in God’s court.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅਨਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲੇਗਾ,
ਆਉ ਬੈਠੁ ਆਦਰੁ ਸੁਭ ਦੇਊ ॥
aa-o baith aadar subh day-oo.
Everyone shall pay you respect and welcome you.
ਚੰਗਾ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ (ਕਹਿਣਗੇ)-ਆਓ ਬੈਠੋ!
ਉਆ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂ ਬਾਸਾ ॥
u-aa mahlee paavahi too baasaa.
You shall always dwell in God’s presence.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏਗਾ l
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਹ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
janam maran nah ho-ay binaasaa.
There will be no birth, death, or destruction.
ਨਾਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਏਗਾ, ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਧੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
mastak karam likhi-o Dhur jaa kai.
The one in whose destiny is so written,
ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥੧੦॥
har sampai naanak ghar taa kai. ||10||
O Nanak, only that person is blessed with the wealth of God’s Name. ||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ

ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਧ ॥
laalach jhooth bikaar moh bi-aapat moorhay anDh.
Those spiritually ignorant fools who get themselves entangled with greed, falsehood, evils, and worldly attachment,
ਜੋ ਗਿਆਨ-ਹੀਣ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੋਭ, ਕੂੜ, ਪਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਲਾਗਿ ਪਰੇ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧ ॥੧॥
laag paray durganDh si-o naanak maa-i-aa banDh. ||1||
O Nanak, caught in the bonds Maya, they remain involved with evil deeds. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨv

ਲਲਾ ਲਪਟਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
lalaa lapat bikhai ras raatay.
Lalla (alphabet):Those who remain engrossed in the evil pleasures.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
ahaN-buDh maa-i-aa mad maatay.
whose intellect is controlled by conceit and Maya.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਉਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਨਾ ॥
i-aa maa-i-aa meh janmeh marnaa.
Entangled in Maya, they fall in the rounds of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
ji-o ji-o hukam tivai ti-o karnaa.
People act according to God’s Command.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕੋਊ ਊਨ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
ko-oo oon na ko-oo pooraa.
No one is perfect, and no one is imperfect.
ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਊਣਾ ਹੈ,
ਕੋਊ ਸੁਘਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਮੂਰਾ ॥
ko-oo sughar na ko-oo mooraa.
No one is wise, and no one is foolish.
ਨਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮੂਰਖ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ ॥
jit jit laavhu tit tit lagnaa.
O’ God, wherever You engage the mortals, there they are engaged.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਧਰ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਨਾ ॥੧੧॥
naanak thaakur sadaa alipanaa. ||11||
O’ Nanak, God is always beyond the effect of Maya.||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ l

ਲਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਥਾਹ ॥
laal gupaal gobind parabh gahir gambheer athaah.
The beloved God, the Cherisher of the world and the Preserver of the Universe is very deep, profound, and unfathomable.
ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ, ਸਭ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ॥੧॥
doosar naahee avar ko naanak bayparvaah. ||1||
O’ Nanak, there is no other like Him and He is altogether free of worries. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ l

ਲਲਾ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
lalaa taa kai lavai na ko-oo.
Lalla (alphabet): There is no one equal to Him.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਏਕਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਅਵਰ ਨਹ ਹੋਊ ॥
aykeh aap avar nah ho-oo.
He Himself is the One; there shall never be any other like Him.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਹੋਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਹੋਤ ਸਦ ਆਇਆ ॥
hovanhaar hot sad aa-i-aa.
He the eternal has always been present, is present now, and shall exist forever.
ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਚਲਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਆ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
u-aa kaa ant na kaahoo paa-i-aa.
No one has ever found the limit of His existence.
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ (ਦੀ) ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ।
ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੂਰ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
keet hasat meh poor samaanay.
He is all pervading in the minutest insect, like an ant, and in the largest animal, like an elephant.
ਕੀੜੀ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਤਕ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਠਾਊ ਜਾਨੇ ॥
pargat purakh sabh thaa-oo jaanay.
All pervading God is visible in his creation and known everywhere.
ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਜਾਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
jaa ka-o deeno har ras apnaa.
To whom He has bestowed the nectar of His Name,
ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੧੨॥
naanak gurmukh har har tih japnaa. ||12||
O’ Nanak, that devotee meditates on God’s Name following the Guru’s teachings. ||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ l

ਆਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
aatam ras jih jaani-aa har rang sehjay maan.
Those who have experienced the pleasure of spiritual bliss intuitively enjoy the love of God.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨ ਆਏ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥
naanak Dhan Dhan Dhan jan aa-ay tay parvaan. ||1||
O Nanak, those devotees are fortunate and approved is their advent into this world. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ l

ਆਇਆ ਸਫਲ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਗਨੀਐ ॥
aa-i-aa safal taahoo ko ganee-ai.
The advent of that person into this world is counted as fruitful,
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਉਣਾ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਾਣੋ,
ਜਾਸੁ ਰਸਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਭਨੀਐ ॥
jaas rasan har har jas bhanee-ai.
whose tongue always sings the Praises of God.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਇ ਬਸਹਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
aa-ay baseh saaDhoo kai sangay.
They come and dwell in the holy cogregation;
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਰੰਗੇ ॥
an-din naam Dhi-aavahi rangay.
and they always meditate on God’s Name with love.
ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਵਤ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
aavat so jan naameh raataa.
Upon coming into this world, only that person remains imbued with God’s Name,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jaa ka-o da-i-aa ma-i-aa biDhaataa.
on whom is bestowed the grace and mercy of the Creator.
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਈ।
ਏਕਹਿ ਆਵਨ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
aykeh aavan fir jon na aa-i-aa.
That person takes birth only once, and shall not be reincarnated again.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
naanak har kai daras samaa-i-aa. ||13||
O’ Nanak, the one who remains merged in the love of God. ||13||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ

ਯਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
yaas japat man ho-ay anand binsai doojaa bhaa-o.
Meditating on whom the mind is filled with bliss and love of duality is eliminated,
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਂਭੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੧॥
dookh darad tarisnaa bujhai naanak naam samaa-o. ||1||
pain, distress and the fire of worldly desires are quenched. O Nanak, immerse yourself in His Name . ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੋ
