ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਸਈਆ ॥
mayray raam mai moorakh har raakh mayray gus-ee-aa.
O’ my God, I am ignorant, please keep me in Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ।
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਵਡਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jan kee upmaa tujheh vad-ee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Your devotee’s praise is Your Own Glorious Greatness. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ
ਮੰਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
mandar ghar aanand har har jas man bhaavai.
One who loves to recite the praises of God always rejoices in bliss.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਰਸ ਮੀਠੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
sabh ras meethay mukh lageh jaa har gun gaavai.
When one sings praises of God with love, one feels as if he is enjoying all the sweet delicacies.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਰਸ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਸਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਇਕੀਹ ਕੁਲੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਛਡਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
har jan parvaar saDhaar hai ikeeh kulee sabh jagat chhadaavai. ||2||
A devotee of God not only helps to save all his generations, but also saves the entire world from vices. ||2||
ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਇੱਕੀ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jo kichh kee-aa so har kee-aa har kee vadi-aa-ee.
Whatever is seen in the world is what God has done and this is the glory of God.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਜੋ ਬਣਿਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
har jee-a tayray tooN varatdaa har pooj karaa-ee.
O’ God, all the creatures are Your creation; You are pervading in them and You inspire them for Your devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ। ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੂਜਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਲਹਾਇਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਾਈ ॥੩॥
har bhagat bhandaar lahaa-idaa aapay vartaa-ee. ||3||
God Himself bestows the treasure of devotional worship on the mortals. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੰਡਦਾ ਹੈ
ਲਾਲਾ ਹਾਟਿ ਵਿਹਾਝਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
laalaa haat vihaajhi-aa ki-aa tis chaturaa-ee.
If a slave has been bought from market, none of his cleverness can work before the master.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਮੰਡੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖ਼ਰੀਦਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕੋਈ ਚਾਲਾਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਜੇ ਰਾਜਿ ਬਹਾਲੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਲਾਮੁ ਘਾਸੀ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਢਾਈ ॥
jay raaj bahaalay taa har gulaam ghaasee ka-o har naam kadhaa-ee.
Even if God makes His true devotee a king, he still remains God’s servant; if He makes His devotee a pauper, he still utters His Name.
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਰਾਜ-ਤਖ਼ਤ ਉਤੇ ਬਿਠਾ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸੇਵਕ) ਘਸਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੮॥੪੬॥
jan naanak har kaa daas hai har kee vadi-aa-ee. ||4||2||8||46||
Nanak is the humble devotee of God and reflects on His glory, ||4||2||8||46||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Raag Gauri Bairagan, Fourth Guru:
ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਇ ॥
kirsaanee kirsaan karay lochai jee-o laa-ay.
A farmer does farming, and puts his heart and soul into his work.
ਕਿਸਾਨ ਖੇਤੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਜੀ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈl
ਹਲੁ ਜੋਤੈ ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁਤੁ ਧੀ ਖਾਇ ॥
hal jotai udam karay mayraa put Dhee khaa-ay.
He works hard to plow the fields so that he can feed his family.
ਉਹ ਹਲ ਵਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜੁ) ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਖਾਏ ਮੇਰੀ ਧੀ ਖਾਏ।
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੧॥
ti-o har jan har har jap karay har ant chhadaa-ay. ||1||
Similarly, God’s devotee meditates on Naam so that in the end God may liberate him from the demons of death. ||1||
ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਰੱਬ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਂ ਲਵੇ।
ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mai moorakh kee gat keejai mayray raam.
O’ my God, I am ignorant, please redeem me.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼l
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ਹਮ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur satgur sayvaa har laa-ay ham kaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, make me serve the true Guru by following his teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਹੈ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ l
ਲੈ ਤੁਰੇ ਸਉਦਾਗਰੀ ਸਉਦਾਗਰੁ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
lai turay sa-udaagree sa-udaagar Dhaavai.
Loading horses with merchandise, a trader goes out to do business.
ਸੌਦਾਗਰ ਸੌਦਾਗਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਨੁ ਖਟੈ ਆਸਾ ਕਰੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਵੈ ॥
Dhan khatai aasaa karai maa-i-aa moh vaDhaavai.
He earns wealth, hopes for more wealth and thus increases his attachment to worldly wealth.
ਉਹ ਧਨ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਹੋਰ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
ti-o har jan har har boltaa har bol sukh paavai. ||2||
Similarly God’s devotee utters God’s Name again and again and by uttering God’s Name enjoys true peace. ||2||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਬਿਖੁ ਸੰਚੈ ਹਟਵਾਣੀਆ ਬਹਿ ਹਾਟਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
bikh sanchai hatvaanee-aa bahi haat kamaa-ay.
Worldly wealth amassed by deceit or greed by the businessman is like a poison.
ਦੁਕਾਨਦਾਰ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੈ,
ਮੋਹ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠ ਕਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
moh jhooth pasaaraa jhooth kaa jhoothay laptaa-ay.
This attachment and display of Maya is nothing but false and he is engrossed in falsehood.
ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਨਿਰਾ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਚਿਮੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ l
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
ti-o har jan har Dhan sanchi-aa har kharach lai jaa-ay. ||3||
Similarly, God’s devotee keeps on acquiring the wealth of God’s Name, he takes this wealth along with him on his journey into the next world. ||3||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੇ (ਭੀ) ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਖ਼ਰਚ (ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਇਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਫਾਸ ॥
ih maa-i-aa moh kutamb hai bhaa-ay doojai faas.
This attachment for worldly wealth and family is like an entanglement that gets us caught in the noose of duality.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ (ਤਾਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਣ ਲਈ ਫਾਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥
gurmatee so jan tarai jo daasan daas.
Only that person swims across the worldly ocean of vices who follows the Guru’s teachings and becomes the humble servant of God’s devotees.
ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥੪੭॥
jan naanak naam Dhi-aa-i-aa gurmukh pargaas. ||4||3||9||47||
By following the Guru’s teachings, Nanak has lovingly meditated on Naam and has been spiritually enlightened, ||4||3||9||47||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Raag Gauri Bairagan, Fourth Guru:
ਨਿਤ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
nit dinas raat laalach karay bharmai bharmaa-i-aa.
one works day and night obsessed by the greed for Maya and remains strayed by delusions of Maya,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਵੇਗਾਰੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ॥
vaygaar firai vaygaaree-aa sir bhaar uthaa-i-aa.
is like a forced laborer carrying the loads on his head without getting paid.
ਉਹ ਉਸ ਵੇਗਾਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ (ਬਿਗਾਨਾ) ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਵੇਗਾਰ ਕੱਢਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
jo gur kee jan sayvaa karay so ghar kai kamm har laa-i-aa. ||1||
But the devotee who serves the Guru by following his teachings, God has assigned him to meditate on Naam, which is his real work. ||1||
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਬ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਤੋੜਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
mayray raam torh banDhan maa-i-aa ghar kai kamm laa-ay.
O’ God, please snap our bonds of Maya and put us to our real job of devotional worship,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਤੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ,
ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nit har gun gaavah har naam samaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
so that attuned to Naam, we may always sing Your praises. ||1||Pause||
ਅਸੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ l
ਨਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਰੇ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
nar paraanee chaakree karay narpat raajay arath sabh maa-i-aa.
A mortal works for the king only for the sake of Maya (worldly wealth).
ਨਿਰੋਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਰਾਜੇ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੈ ਬੰਧੈ ਕੈ ਡਾਨਿ ਲੇਇ ਕੈ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
kai banDhai kai daan lay-ay kai narpat mar jaa-i-aa.
Many times this rular displeased for any reason, imprisons him or imposes fine. Sometimes the rular himself dies and this person’s service goes to waste.
ਰਾਜਾ ਕਈ ਵਾਰੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ੁਨਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੁਰਮਾਨਾ ਆਦਿਕ)ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਾਂ, ਰਾਜਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
dhan dhan sayva safal satguroo kee jit har har naam jap har sukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
Blessed and fruitful is the service of the True Guru; through this service one meditates on God’s Name and enjoys the bliss. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਿਤ ਸਉਦਾ ਸੂਦੁ ਕੀਚੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
nit sa-udaa sood keechai baho bhaat kar maa-i-aa kai taa-ee.
Everyday, one enters into different kind of business to earn worldly wealth.
ਧੰਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਵਣਜ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਜਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਦੇਇ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨੇ ਤੋਟੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
jaa laahaa day-ay taa sukh manay totai mar jaa-ee.
If this business brings profit then one feels happy, but a loss breaks his heart.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਉਹ ਵਣਜ-ਵਪਾਰ) ਨਫ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਘਾਟਾ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹਾਹੁਕੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
jo gun saajhee gur si-o karay nit nit sukh paa-ee. ||3||
On the other hand, when one sings the praises of God in the company of the Guru, finds a lasting peace. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸੌਦੇ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ l
