ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
an-din jaldee firai din raatee bin pir baho dukh paavni-aa. ||2||
Day and night the soul continues wandering, burning in the fire of worldly desires. Without the Husband-God, the soul suffers in great sorrows.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਿੰਦ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੜਦੀ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਝੱਲਦੀ ਹੈ
ਦੇਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
dayhee jaat na aagai jaa-ay.
Her body and her social status shall not go with her to the world hereafter.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੀ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਤਨਾ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਛੁਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
jithai laykhaa mangee-ai tithai chhutai sach kamaa-ay.
Where the account of deeds is asked for, the soul is liberated only if it has earned the merits of truthful deeds in this world.
ਜਿਥੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
satgur sayvan say Dhanvantay aithai othai naam samaavani-aa. ||3||
Those who serve the true Guru by following his teaching, are rich with wealth of Naam. Both here and in the next world, they remain absorbed in God’s Name
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਾਲ) ਧਨਾਢ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥
bhai bhaa-ay seegaar banaa-ay.
The one who always remain attuned to the revered fear of God and embellishes his life with His Name.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਗਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee mahal ghar paa-ay.
By the Guru’s Grace, he realizes God in his heart.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
an-din sadaa ravai din raatee majeethai rang banaavani-aa. ||4||
Day and night, he lovingly remembers God’s Name. He becomes deeply imbued with never-fading love for God’s Name.
ਉਹ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਦਿਨੇ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਜੀਠ ਵਰਗਾ ਪੱਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਭਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
sabhnaa pir vasai sadaa naalay.
Our Master is always within us.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਸਭ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥
gur parsaadee ko nadar nihaalay.
It is only a rare person who, by Guru’s grace, is able to see Him with divine eyes.
ਪਰਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
mayraa parabh at oocho oochaa kar kirpaa aap milaavani-aa. ||5||
My God is the highest of the high; showing His mercy He Himself unites us with Him.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਬੁਲੰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਹੈ। ਅਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸੁਤਾ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi ih jag sutaa.
This world is asleep in emotional attachment to Maya.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਵੇਸਲਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।)
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥
naam visaar ant vigutaa.
Forgetting the Naam, it ultimately ruins himself itself.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਭੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
jis tay sutaa so jaagaa-ay gurmat sojhee paavni-aa. ||6||
Only the one who has put this world in the sleep of ignorance can awaken it. One obtains this realization only through the Guru’s teachings.
ਜਿਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੌਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੋਰ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਐ ਸੋ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
api-o pee-ai so bharam gavaa-ay.
The one who partakes the Ambrosial nectar of Naam, sheds illusion.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parsaad mukat gat paa-ay.
By Guru’s Grace, the state of liberation from Maya is attained.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
bhagtee rataa sadaa bairaagee aap maar milaavani-aa. ||7||
One who is imbued with love and devotion for God becomes detached from worldly desires. Subduing ego, such a person unites with God.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
aap upaa-ay DhanDhai laa-ay.
He Himself creates (the mortals) and assigns them to different tasks (entangling them in Maya).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ ਭੱਜ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਪੜਾਏ ॥
lakh cha-uraasee rijak aap aprhaa-ay.
He Himself gives sustenance to the millions species of beings.
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੫॥
naanak naam Dhi-aa-ay sach raatay jo tis bhaavai so kaar karaavani-aa. ||8||4||5||
O’ Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam are imbued in Truth. God makes them do only that deed which is pleasing to Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥
andar heeraa laal banaa-i-aa.
Within every body, God has placed His precious Light.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ-ਰੂਪ) ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲ ਟਿਕਾਇਆਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਖਿ ਪਰਖਾਇਆ ॥
gur kai sabad parakh parkhaa-i-aa.
But it is only a rare person who, through the Guru’s word, has realized its worth.
(ਪਰ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਹੀਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਖ ਕਰਾਈ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਪਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
jin sach palai sach vakaaneh sach kasvatee laavani-aa. ||1||
Only those who are imbued with this jewel of God’s Name, utter truth and know how to test himself on the touchstone of truth.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ ਵੱਸ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਸਵੱਟੀ (ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree gur kee banee man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who enshrine the Guru’s word within their minds.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anjan maahi niranjan paa-i-aa jotee jot milaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
While still living in this world full of the darkness of Maya, they have realized the immaculate God, and they are able to merge their soul in the Prime Soul.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
is kaa-i-aa andar bahut pasaaraa.
(On one hand), within this body lies a great expanse of Maya (worldly things).
(ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਬਹੁਤ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
naam niranjan at agam apaaraa.
(On the other hand), God is immaculate, incomprehensible and limitless..
(ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਹੈ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋਵੇ?)।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gurmukh hovai so-ee paa-ay aapay bakhas milaavani-aa.
Only the one, who follows the Guru’s teachings is able to realize the immaculate God’s Name. On His own, showing His mercy, God unites that one with Himself.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
mayraa thaakur sach drirh-aa-ay.
The person in whose mind, my Master instills the Eternal Truth,
ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee sach chit laa-ay.
By the Guru’s Grace, that person attunes his mind to the eternal God.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sacho sach vartai sabhnee thaa-ee sachay sach samaavani-aa. ||3||
The God is eternal and omnipresent. That person always remains attuned to the True One.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
vayparvaahu sach mayraa pi-aaraa.
My beloved God is Eternal. He has no worries.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
kilvikh avgan kaatanhaaraa.
He is the dispeller of demerits and sins.
ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
paraym pareet sadaa Dhi-aa-ee-ai bhai bhaa-ay bhagat darirhaavni-aa. ||4||
We should meditate on God with love and devotion. He affirms His revered fear and devotional worship within us.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਜੇ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
tayree bhagat sachee jay sachay bhaavai.
O’ God, when it is Your Will only then one receives the gift of devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥
aapay day-ay na pachhotaavai.
He, Himself blesses mortals with the gifts, and don’t ever regret giving it.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਛਤਾਂਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ l
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sabhnaa jee-aa kaa ayko daataa sabday maar jeevaavni-aa. ||5||
God alone is the Provider to all the beings. He is the reviver of spiritual life of the mortals by erasing their ego, through the Guru’s word,
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੈ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
har tuDh baajhahu mai ko-ee naahee.
O’ God, besides You, for me there is no one else.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
har tuDhai sayvee tai tuDh saalaahee.
O’ God, I meditate only on You and praise only You.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
aapay mayl laihu parabh saachay poorai karam tooN paavni-aa. ||6||
O’ the eternal God,unite me with Yourself. It is only by Your full grace that You can be realized.
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ । ਤੇਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਧੈ ਜੇਹਾ ॥
mai hor na ko-ee tuDhai jayhaa.
O’ God, for me, there is no one else like You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਤੇਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਦੇਹਾ ॥
tayree nadree seejhas dayhaa.
By Your Glance of Grace, my body can be fruitful.
ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ) ਸਰੀਰ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
an-din saar samaal har raakhahi gurmukh sahj samaavani-aa. ||7||
O’ God, You always take care of the mortals, and those who follow Guru’s advice imperceptibly merge in You.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। (ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
tuDh jayvad mai hor na ko-ee.
O’ God, for me there is no one else as Great as You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਗੋਈ ॥
tuDh aapay sirjee aapay go-ee.
You have Yourself created this universe, and You Yourself would destroy it.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
