ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
satgur sayv gun niDhaan paa-i-aa tis kee keem na paa-ee.
You cannot admire enough a person who has realized God Almighty, the Treasure of Virtues, by serving the Guru.
Huwezi kupendezwa ukatosheka na mtu ambaye amegundua Mungu Mwenyezi, Hazina ya Fadhila, kwa kutumikia Guru.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥
parabh sakhaa har jee-o mayraa antay ho-ay sakhaa-ee. ||3||
God is my best Friend. He shall be my companion and support in the end.
Mungu ndiye rafiki wangu wa dhati. Atakuwa mwendani wangu na nguzo yangu mwishowe.

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
pay-ee-arhai jagjeevan daataa manmukh pat gavaa-ee.
In the parental home (this world), the self-conceited person has lost his honor by forsaking God, the Giver of life.
Katika nyumba ya kizazi (dunia hii), mtu mwenye majivuno ya kibinafsi amepoteza heshima yake kwa kumwacha Mungu, Mtoa wa uhai.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
bin satgur ko mag na jaanai anDhay tha-ur na kaa-ee.
Without Guru’s sanctuary, no one knows the way. Blinded (by worldly attachments), they do not find any spiritual support.
Bila pahali patakatifu pa Guru, hakuna mtu anajua jnjia. Wakipofushwa (na viambatisho vya kidunia), hawapati msaada wowote wa kiroho.

ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਵਸਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥੪॥
har sukh-daata man nahee vasi-aa ant ga-i-aa pachhutaa-ee. ||4||
If God, the Giver of Peace, does not dwell in man’s mind, he departs regretting in the end.
Iwapo Mungu, Mtoa wa amani, haishi katika akili ya binadamu, anaondoka akijuta mwishowe.

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ॥
pay-ee-arhai jagjeevan daataa gurmat man vasaa-i-aa.
While living in the parent’s house (the world), those who enshrine God the world’s Life-Giver in their heart according to the Guru’s teachings.
Wakati wanaishi kwa nyumba ya mzazi (dunia), wale wanaoweka vizuri Mungu ambaye ni Mtoa uhai kwa dunia mioyoni mwao kulingana na mafundisho ya Guru.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
an-din bhagat karahi din raatee ha-umai moh chukaa-i-aa.
They eradicate their ego and emotional attachment, by performing devotional worship day and night.
Wanaondoa ubinafsi wao na kiambatisho vya kihisia, kwa kufanya ibada ya kujitolea mchana na usiku.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
jis si-o raataa taiso hovai sachay sach samaa-i-aa. ||5||
And then, imbued with His love the mortal becomes like Him, and he remains truly absorbed in the eternal God.
Kisha, akijawa na upendo wake binadamu anakuwa kama Mungu, na anabaki amezama kabisa katika Mungu wa milele.

ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
aapay nadar karay bhaa-o laa-ay gur sabdee beechaar.
On whom, God casts His glance of grace, he gets imbued with His Love. He then through the Guru’s Word reflects on His virtues.
Kwa yule ambaye, Mungu anaangazia mtazamo wako wa neema, anajawa na upendo wake. Kisha yeye kupitia neno la Guru anatafakari kuhusu fadhila za Mungu.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai sahj oopjai ha-umai tarisnaa maar.
Following the Guru’s teachings, intuitive peace wells up, and ego and desire die.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, amani angavu inajaa, na ubinafsi na hamu zinakufa.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੬॥
har gundaataa sad man vasai sach rakhi-aa ur Dhaar. ||6||
God, the Giver of all Virtues is continually operative in the one who keeps Him enshrined in the heart.
Mungu, Mtoa wa fadhila zote anaendelea kushiriki ndani mwa mtu anayemweka vizuri moyoni.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
parabh mayraa sadaa nirmalaa man nirmal paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
My God is forever Immaculate; He can be realized only with a pure mind.
Mungu wangu ni mweupe milele; Yeye anaweza kugunduliwa tu kwa akili safi.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
naam niDhaan har man vasai ha-umai dukh sabh jaa-ay.
If the Treasure of Naam abides within the mind, then all the pain of egotism is totally eliminated.
Iwapo hazina ya Naam inaishi akilini, basi uchungu wote wa ubinafsi unaondolewa kabisa.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੭॥
satgur sabad sunaa-i-aa ha-o sad balihaarai jaa-o. ||7||
I forever dedicate myself to the one, to whom the true Guru has recited the divine Word.
Najiweka wakfu daima kwa yule, ambaye Guru wa kweli amemkariria Neno takatifu.

ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
aapnai man chit kahai kahaa-ay bin gur aap na jaa-ee.
Even if one says in one’s own mind that he has stilled his ego and makes others also say so, still without the Guru’s teachings one’s ego doesn’t depart.
Hata iwapo mtu aseme akilini mwake ya kwamba ametuliza ubinafsi wake na afanye wengine waseme hivyo pia, bado bila mafundisho ya Guru ubinafsi wa mtu hauondoki.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
har jee-o bhagat vachhal sukh-daata kar kirpaa man vasaa-ee.
God is the Lover of His devotees and He imparts peace to them. It is by His Grace that He dwells in the minds of His devotees.
Mungu ndiye mpendwa wa wafuasi wake na anapachika amani kwao. Ni kwa Neema yake ambapo anakaa akilini mwa wafuasi wake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੮॥
naanak sobhaa surat day-ay parabh aapay gurmukh day vadi-aa-ee. ||8||1||18||
O’ Nanak, God blesses the Guru’s follower with the sublime awakening of consciousness and grants him the glory and honor.
Ee Nanak, Mungu anabariki mfuasi wa Guru na kuamka kwa utukufu wa fahamu na kumruzuku utukufu na heshima.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਮਡੰਡੁ ਲਗੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥
ha-umai karam kamaavday jamdand lagai tin aa-ay.
Those who go around doing even religious deeds egotistically end up losing spiritually and are always under the fear of the demon of death,
Wale ambao wanazunguka wakifanya hata vitendo vya kidini kwa ubinafsi wanashindwa kiroho na daima wamo na uoga wa pepo wa kifo,

ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
je satgur sayvan say ubray har saytee liv laa-ay. ||1||
but those who humbly accept the Guru’s teachings are saved from this fear of the demon of death by lovingly meditating on Naam.
Lakini wale ambao wanakubali kwa unyenyekevu mafundisho ya Guru wanakombolewa kutoka uoga huu wa pepo wa kifo kwa kutafakari kwa upendo kuhusu Naam.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
man ray gurmukh naam Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ my mind, follow the Guru’s teachings and lovingly meditate on Naam.
Ee akili yangu, fuata mafundisho ya Guru na utafakari kwa upendo kuhusu Naam.

ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhur poorab kartai likhi-aa tinaa gurmat naam samaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Those who are predestined by the Creator get absorbed into Naam, through the Guru’s Teachings.
Wale ambao wameagiziwa mapema na Muumba kuzama katika Naam, kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੋ ਭਾਉ ॥
vin satgur parteet na aavee naam na laago bhaa-o.
Without the True Guru’s teachings, faith and love for the Naam does not arise in one’s mind.
Bila mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, imani na upendo wa Naam hautokei akilini mwa mtu.

ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਸਵੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
supnai sukh na paav-ee dukh meh savai samaa-ay. ||2||
Even in dreams, he finds no peace and remains entangled in pain.
Hata katika ndoto, hapati amani yoyote na anabaki amenaswa kwa uchungu.

ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
jay har har keechai bahut lochee-ai kirat na mayti-aa jaa-ay.
Even if a self willed wants to recites Naam with great longing, he will not succeed because the effect past deeds can’t be erased without the Guru’s word.
Hata iwapo mwenye wasia wa kibinafsi anataka kukariri Naam kwa hamu kubwa, hatafanikiwa kwa sababu athari ya vitendo vya awali haiwezi kufutwa bila neno la Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਏ ਦਰਿ ਥਾਇ ॥੩॥
har kaa bhaanaa bhagtee mani-aa say bhagat pa-ay dar thaa-ay. ||3||
The devotees of God completely surrender to His Will and they are the ones who get fully accepted in God’s court.
Wafuasi wa Mungu wanajisalimisha kikamilifu kwa Wasia wake na wao ni wale ambao wanakubalika kabisa katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਿੜਾਵੈ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur sabad dirhaavai rang si-o bin kirpaa la-i-aa na jaa-ay.
The Guru lovingly blesses and firmly installs the Word in whoever comes to him but finding the True Guru is also a blessing of God.
Guru anabariki kwa upendo na kusakinisha kwa uthabiti Neno katika yeyote anayekuja kwake lakini kupata Guru wa kweli pia ni baraka ya Mungu.

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨੀਰੀਐ ਭੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਧਾਇ ॥੪॥
jay sa-o amrit neeree-ai bhee bikh fal laagai Dhaa-ay. ||4||
A self willed is like this poisonous plant whom if you water with ambrosial nectar a hundred times, still bears poisonous fruit.
Mtu mwenye wasia wa kibinafsi ni kama mmea wa sumu ambao ukinyunyuzia kwa nekta ya ambrosia mara mia moja, bado unazaa matunda yenye sumu.

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
say jan sachay nirmalay jin satgur naal pi-aar.
Those humble beings who are in love with the True Guru are pure and true.
Viumbe hao wanyenyekevu ambao wamependezwa na Guru wa kweli ni safi na wa kweli.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
satgur kaa bhaanaa kamaavday bikh ha-umai taj vikaar. ||5||
Shedding the poison of ego and vices, they act according to Guru’s will.
Wakitengana na sumu ya ubinafsi na dhambi, wanatenda kulingana na wasia wa Guru.

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਉਪਾਇ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਧਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
manhath kitai upaa-ay na chhootee-ai simrit saastar soDhhu jaa-ay.
No deeds done with stubborn-mindedness can save one from the influence of vices. You can confirm from the religious scriptures for this to be true.
Hakuna vitendo ambavyo vinatendwa kwa akili kaidi vinaweza kuokoa mtu kutoka athari ya maovu. Unaweza kudhibitisha kutoka maandishi ya kidini kama hii ni kweli.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੬॥
mil sangat saaDhoo ubray gur kaa sabad kamaa-ay. ||6||
Only those who joined the holy congregation and have lived in accordance with the Guru’s word have been saved from the vices.
Ni wale tu ambao wamejiunga na ushirika takatifu na wameishi kulingana na neno la Guru wamekombolewa kutoka dhambi.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
har kaa naam niDhaan hai jis ant na paaraavaar.
God’s Name is the Treasure of virtues, which has no end or limitation.
Jina la Mungu ni hazina ya fadhila, ambayo haina mwisho wala kikomo.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਈ ਸੋਹਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
gurmukh say-ee sohday jin kirpaa karay kartaar. ||7||
The life of only those Guru’s followers is embellished upon whom the Creator bestows His mercy.
Maisha ya hao wafuasi wa Guru yanapambwa ambao Muumba ametawazia huruma yake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
naanak daataa ayk hai doojaa a-or na ko-ay.
O’ Nanak, God Almighty is the sole provider; there is no other at all.
Ee Nanak, Mungu Mwenyezi ni mtoaji wa pekee; hakuna mwengine hata kidogo.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੯॥
gur parsaadee paa-ee-ai karam paraapat ho-ay. ||8||2||19||
God Almighty is realized when He bestows His mercy. It happens through the Guru’s Grace.
Mungu Mwenyezi anagunduliwa wakati anatawaza huruma yake. Inafanyika kupitia kwa Neema ya Guru.
