ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੪੭॥
aap ga-i-aa dukh kati-aa har var paa-i-aa naar. ||47||
The soul-bride whose ego got eliminated, she realized her Husband -God and her sorrow vanished. ||47||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਖਸਮ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ॥੪੭॥
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਧਨੁ ਕਾਚਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
su-inaa rupaa sanchee-ai Dhan kaachaa bikh chhaar.
Usually people amass gold and silver, but all this is false wealth; which can become poison for spiritual life and is nothing more than ashes.
(ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਸੋਨਾ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਹੋਛਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਹੁ -ਰੂਪ, ਹੈ, ਤੁੱਛ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਹੁ ਸਦਾਏ ਸੰਚਿ ਧਨੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
saahu sadaa-ay sanch Dhan dubiDhaa ho-ay khu-aar.
One who amasses this false wealth and calls himself wealthy, is ruined by his duality (love for things other than God).
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਹ) ਧਨ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਦਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਿਆਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਸਾਚਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ॥
sachi-aaree sach sanchi-aa saacha-o naam amol.
The truthful merchants gather the true wealth, the wealth of eternal God’s invaluable Name;
ਸੱਚੇ ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹਾਝਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਊਜਲੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲੁ ॥
har nirmaa-il oojlo pat saachee sach bol.
yes, they have earned the sublime and immaculate wealth of God’s Name because of which they receive true honor and true becomes their speech.
ਉੱਜਲ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਲ ਸਚ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਤੂ ਤੂ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਤੂ ਹੰਸੁ ॥
saajan meet sujaan too too sarvar too hans.
O’ God! You are my wise friend and companion, You are like the lake filled with the pearls of divine wisdom and You are the swan-like mortal in the lake
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸੱਚਾ) ਸਿਆਣਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ) ਸਰੋਵਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਦਾ ਜੀਵ-ਰੂਪ ਹੰਸ ਹੈਂ;
ਸਾਚਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
saacha-o thaakur man vasai ha-o balihaaree tis.
I am dedicated to that person in whose mind is enshrined the eternal God.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ (ਹੰਸ) ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
maa-i-aa mamtaa mohnee jin keetee so jaan.
O’ pundit, recognize God who has attached love for enticing Maya to people.
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ!) ਉਸ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥੪੮॥
bikhi-aa amrit ayk hai boojhai purakh sujaan. ||48||
One who realizes the all pervading omniscient God, he is not affected by the pleasure and sorrow caused by the ambrosial nectar of Naam and Maya. ||48||
ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਫ਼ (ਨਾਮ-) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੀ ‘ਮਾਇਆ’ ਹੈ ॥੪੮॥
ਖਿਮਾ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਖਪਿ ਗਏ ਖੂਹਣਿ ਲਖ ਅਸੰਖ ॥
khimaa vihoonay khap ga-ay khoohan lakh asaNkh.
Without the virtue of forgiveness, countless hundreds of thousands have been spiritually ruined.
(ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ)ਖਿਮਾ-ਹੀਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਜੀਵ ਖਪ ਮੋਏ ਹਨ, ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ,
ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਗਣੀ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਸੰਖ ॥
ganat na aavai ki-o ganee khap khap mu-ay bisankh.
Their numbers cannot be counted; how could I count them, because uncounted numbers of people have died grieving and wailing?
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗਿਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਤੇ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਮੁਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਖੂਲੈ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
khasam pachhaanai aapnaa khoolai banDh na paa-ay.
One who realizes his Master-God is set free from the bonds of Maya, and is not again bound by these worldly bonds
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਤੋ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਖਰਾ ਤੂ ਖਿਮਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਇ ॥
sabad mahlee kharaa too khimaa sach sukh bhaa-ay.
O’ God, through the word of the Guru, You manifest in his heart and he easily acquires compassion and truth.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਖਿਮਾ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਖਰਚੁ ਖਰਾ ਧਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਵਸਹਿ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
kharach kharaa Dhan Dhi-aan too aapay vaseh sareer.
O’ God, then You Yourself become the expense for the journey of life, true wealth, You become the focus of his meditation and dwell in his body.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਰਚ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖਰਾ (ਸੱਚਾ) ਧਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ) ਵੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਧੀਰ ॥
man tan mukh jaapai sadaa gun antar man Dheer.
With mind, body and tongue, he always lovingly remembers You; he acquires Your virtues and his mind becomes satiated.
ਉਹ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਸਦਾ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧੀਰਜ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਖਪੈ ਖਪਾਇਸੀ ਬੀਜਉ ਵਥੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
ha-umai khapai khapaa-isee beeja-o vath vikaar.
Anything without God’s Name is the cause of vices and through it one becomes consumed in egotism.
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੀਵ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਖਪਦਾ ਖਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਲਗੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੪੯॥
jant upaa-ay vich paa-i-an kartaa alag apaar. ||49||
After creating the human beings, the infinite God instilled the seed of ego within them, but He Himself remains unattached. ||49||
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਜੰਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੯॥
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟੇ ਭੇਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
saristay bhay-o na jaanai ko-ay.
Nobody understands the mystery of the Master of the universe.
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
saristaa karai so nihcha-o ho-ay.
Whatever the Creator of the World does, is certain to occur.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ-ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਪੈ ਕਉ ਈਸਰੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
sampai ka-o eesar Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
Usually people meditate on God for the sake of worldly wealth,
(ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਪੈ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਕੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sampai purab likhay kee paa-ee-ai.
but one receives what is preordained in his destiny.
ਪਰ ਧਨ ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹਰੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਪੈ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਚਾਕਰ ਚੋਰ ॥
sampai kaaran chaakar chor.
For the sake of wealth, people become servants or thieves.
ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੌਕਰ (ਭੀ) ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚੋਰ (ਭੀ) ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਚੋਰੀ ਭੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਸੰਪੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਹੋਰ ॥
sampai saath na chaalai hor.
But the worldly wealth does not go along with anyone and after death, it passes into the hands of others.
ਪਰ ਧਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭਦਾ, (ਮਰਨ ਤੇ) ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
bin saachay nahee dargeh maan.
Without the wealth of eternal God’s Name, nobody receives honor in His presence.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਛੁਟੈ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੫੦॥
har ras peevai chhutai nidaan. ||50||
One who drinks the divine nectar is ultimately freed from worldly bonds. ||50||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸੰਪੈ-ਧਨ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫੦॥
ਹੇਰਤ ਹੇਰਤ ਹੇ ਸਖੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੁ ॥
hayrat hayrat hay sakhee ho-ay rahee hairaan.
O’ my friend, I am wonder-struck and amazed to perceive,
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ,
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਮੈ ਮੁਈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
ha-o ha-o kartee mai mu-ee sabad ravai man gi-aan.
that my ego has died, and my mind is spiritually enlightened by uttering the Guru’s divine word.
ਕਿ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ‘ਹਉਂ ਹਉਂ’ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ‘ਮੈਂ’ ਮਰ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਾਰ ਡੋਰ ਕੰਕਨ ਘਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
haar dor kankan ghanay kar thaakee seegaar.
I was tired of wearing all these necklaces, hair-ties and bracelets and other decorations (tired of performing all the rituals).
ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕੰਠ-ਮਾਲਾਂ, ਪਰਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਚੁਕੀ ਸਾਂ l
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣਾ ਗਲਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
mil pareetam sukh paa-i-aa sagal gunaa gal haar.
but now upon realizing the beloved God, I received celestial peace which is like wearing the necklace of divine virtues.
ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
naanak gurmukh paa-ee-ai har si-o pareet pi-aar.
O’ Nanak, love and affection for God wells up only through the Guru:
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
har bin kin sukh paa-i-aa daykhhu man beechaar.
you may reflect in your mind and see it for yourselves that nobody has ever attained spiritual peace without realizing God.
ਤੇ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਪੜਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੁਝਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਖਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
har parh-naa har bujh-naa har si-o rakhahu pi-aar.
O’ pandit, if you want spiritual peace, then read and understand about the virtues of God and enshrine love for Him in Your mind;
ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ! ਜੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੜ੍ਹ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ;
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫੧॥
har japee-ai har Dhi-aa-ee-ai har kaa naam aDhaar. ||51||
we should receite God’s Name, lovingly remember Him, and make His Name as the support of life. ||51||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੀਏ, (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ (ਬਣਾਈਏ) ॥੫੧॥
ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਹੇ ਸਖੀ ਜੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
laykh na mit-ee hay sakhee jo likhi-aa kartaar.
O’ my friend, the destiny ordained by the Creator-God cannot be erased.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਜੋ ਲੇਖ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਸਾਡੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਗੁ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
aapay kaaran jin kee-aa kar kirpaa pag Dhaar.
But, God who has created this universe, when He bestows mercy and manifests in our heart, (only then the preordained destiny is erased).
(ਇਹ ਲੇਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਮਿਟਦਾ ਹੈ),ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਆਲਮ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆ ਵੱਸੇ।
ਕਰਤੇ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
kartay hath vadi-aa-ee-aa boojhhu gur beechaar.
The gift of singing the glories of the Creator lies with Him, try to understand it by reflecting on the divine word of Guru.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ; ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੋ ।
ਲਿਖਿਆ ਫੇਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੀ ਤਿਉ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
likhi-aa fayr na sakee-ai ji-o bhaavee ti-o saar.
O’ God, preordained destiny cannot be avoided, take care of us as it pleases You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਧੁਰੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋ ਮੋੜਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ; ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸਾਡੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ।
ਨਦਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
nadar tayree sukh paa-i-aa naanak sabad veechaar.
O’ Nanak! say: O’ God! by reflecting on the Guru’s word, I have realized that celestial peace is received only by Your glance of grace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
manmukh bhoolay pach mu-ay ubray gur beechaar.
The self-willed people, lost in doubt, have deteriorated spiritually; but those who reflected on the Guru’s divine word have been saved.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਏ। ਬਚੇ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜੇ)।
ਜਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
je purakh nadar na aavee tis kaa ki-aa kar kahi-aa jaa-ay.
What can anyone say about the all pervading God, who cannot be seen?
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੋਈ ਕੀ ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਦਿਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥੫੨॥
balihaaree gur aapnay jin hirdai ditaa dikhaa-ay. ||52||
I am dedicated to my Guru, who has revealed God in my heart itself. ||52||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੫੨॥
ਪਾਧਾ ਪੜਿਆ ਆਖੀਐ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਚਰੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
paaDhaa parhi-aa aakhee-ai bidi-aa bichrai sahj subhaa-ay.
O’ pundit, that religious teacher is said to be well-educated who intuitively lives life according to divine knowledge,
ਉਸ ਪਾਂਧੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
