ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਰਮਸਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
tirath bharmas bi-aaDh na jaavai.
and wanders in pilgrimage places, by performing all these rituals, his afflictions do not go away.
ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਭਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
naam binaa kaisay sukh paavai. ||4||
Without remembering God’s Name, how can one receive celestial peace? ||4||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੪॥
ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਕਿਵੈ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥
jatan karai bind kivai na rahaa-ee.
No matter how much one tries, he cannot control his lust.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਮਰਜੀ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੇ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਨਰਕੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
manoo-aa dolai narkay paa-ee.
His mind keeps wavering and he endures such agony as if he is cast into hell.
ਮਨ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਾਧੋ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥
jam pur baaDho lahai sajaa-ee.
Bound by the fear of death, he lives through agony.
ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਭੁਗਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥
bin naavai jee-o jal bal jaa-ee. ||5||
Without the support of God’s Name his mind endures the wrath of vices. ||5||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੀ ਭੁੱਜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਕੇਤੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
siDh saaDhik kaytay mun dayvaa.
Out of many siddhas and seekers, silent sages and angels,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਿੱਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ,
ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵਹਿ ਭੇਵਾ ॥
hath nigrahi na tariptaaveh bhayvaa.
none of them can satisfy their inner urges by practicing (Hatha Yoga) obstinacy.
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਹਠੀਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਡਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਵਿਖੇਪਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਗਹਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
sabad veechaar gaheh gur sayvaa.
Those who reflect on the Guru’s word and sincerely follow his teachings,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥੬॥
man tan nirmal abhimaan abhayvaa. ||6||
their mind and heart become immaculate and their ego disappears. ||6||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ( ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਅਭਾਵ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥
karam milai paavai sach naa-o.
O’ God, it is only through Your grace that one obtains Your eternal Name
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਮ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਸੁਭਾਉ ॥
tum sarnaagat raha-o subhaa-o.
and with true love, he remains under Your protection.
ਅਤੇ ਸੇ੍ਸ਼ਟ ਪੇ੍ਮ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਉ ॥
tum tay upji-o bhagtee bhaa-o.
It is from You that love for Your devotional worship has welled up within him,
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ)
ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੭॥
jap jaapa-o gurmukh har naa-o. ||7||
and through Guru’s teachings, he keeps meditating on Your Name. ||7||
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਜਾਇ ਮਨ ਭੀਨੈ ॥
ha-umai garab jaa-ay man bheenai.
When one’s egotism and undue pride goes away, then his mind becomes imbued with God’s Love.
ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਗਰੂਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨੈ ॥
jhooth na paavas pakhand keenai.
One does not realize God by practicing fraud and hypocrisy.
ਕੂੜ ਅਤੇ ਪਖੰਡ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨਹੀ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਰੁ ॥
bin gur sabad nahee ghar baar.
Without the Guru’s teachings, one cannot reach God’s door (realize God’s presence in his heart).
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੬॥
naanak gurmukh tat beechaar. ||8||6||
O’ Nanak, one who follows the Guru’s teachings, contemplates the essence of reality. ||8||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਵੀਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੬॥

Raag Raamkalee, First Guru:
ਜਿਉ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਬਉਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਜਨਮੇ ਤਿਉ ਮਰਣੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
ji-o aa-i-aa ti-o jaaveh ba-uray ji-o janmay ti-o maran bha-i-aa.
O’ fool, as you come into the world, so would you leave (without any spiritual gain); yes, as you were born, so you will die.
ਹੇ ਝੱਲੇ ਜੀਵ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ ਤਿਵੇਂ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਚਲਾ ਭੀ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੌਤ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ
ਜਿਉ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਕੀਏ ਤੇਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੧॥
ji-o ras bhog kee-ay taytaa dukh laagai naam visaar bhavjal pa-i-aa. ||1||
As you are indulging in the worldly pleasures, so are you getting inflicted with sorrows; forsaking Naam, you would fall in the cycle of birth and death. ||1||
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਤੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁੱਖ-ਰੋਗ ਚੰਬੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਸਮਝ ॥੧॥
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਖਤ ਗਰਬਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
tan Dhan daykhat garab ga-i-aa.
O’ mortal, seeing your body and wealth, you remain egotistically proud.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ!) ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ਵਧਾਇਹਿ ਕੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kanik kaamnee si-o hayt vaDhaa-ihi kee naam visaareh bharam ga-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You are multiplying your love for gold (worldly wealth) and women; why are you lost in doubt by forsaking Naam? ||1||Pause||
ਸੋਨੇ ਤੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਵਧਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ, ਕਿਉਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਨ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਪਿੰਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਸਟੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
jat sat sanjam seel na raakhi-aa parayt pinjar meh kaasat bha-i-aa.
O’ mortal, you have not practiced celibacy, compassion and control of mind; due to sinful behavior, your mind has become uncompassionate like a piece of dry wood in your body which looks like a ghost’s skeleton.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਚਾਉ, ਉੱਚਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਏ ਸਰੀਰ-ਪਿੰਜਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਲੱਕੜ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੁਰਖ਼ਤ-ਦਿਲ) ਹੋ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਨ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਜਇਆ ॥੨॥
punn daan isnaan na sanjam saaDhsangat bin baad ja-i-aa. ||2||
You have not practiced charity, donations, ablution of mind or austerities; without the company of the holy congregation, your life is going in vain. ||2||
ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਹ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਆਚਰਨਿਕ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਧੇਜ ਹੈ। ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆਂ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਵਤ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
laalach laagai naam bisaari-o aavat jaavat janam ga-i-aa.
O’ mortal, attached to greed, you have forgotten Naam; running around in the love for Maya, your life has gone to waste.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ, ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੌੜ ਭੱਜ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਜਮੁ ਧਾਇ ਕੇਸ ਗਹਿ ਮਾਰੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਲ ਗਇਆ ॥੩॥
jaa jam Dhaa-ay kays geh maarai surat nahee mukh kaal ga-i-aa. ||3||
When seizing you by your hair, the demon of death would strike you and you wouldn’t be able to think of remembering God while in the grip of death. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਜਮ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਆ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੇਗਾ, ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕੇਗੀ ॥੩॥
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸਰਬ ਦਇਆ ॥
ahinis nindaa taat paraa-ee hirdai naam na sarab da-i-aa.
O’ mortal, you always indulge in slander and speak ill of others; in your heart, you have neither Naam, nor compassion for all others.
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਈਰਖਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਦਇਆ-ਪਿਆਰ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੪॥
bin gur sabad na gat pat paavahi raam naam bin narak ga-i-aa. ||4||
Without the Guru’s word, you cannot receive supreme spiritual status or honor; without meditating on God’s Name you are miserable like living in hell. ||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਤੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਵੇਸ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਟੂਆ ਜਿਉ ਮੋਹ ਪਾਪ ਮਹਿ ਗਲਤੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
khin meh vays karahi natoo-aa ji-o moh paap meh galat ga-i-aa.
O’ mortal! like a juggler, you change many guises in an instant; you are completely engrossed in false worldly attachments and sins.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਤੂੰ ਖਿਨ-ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਗੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਕਈ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਲਤਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਮਗਨੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੫॥
it ut maa-i-aa daykh pasaaree moh maa-i-aa kai magan bha-i-aa. ||5||
Seeing the worldly riches spread all around, you are engrossed in them. ||5||
ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੫॥
ਕਰਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਵਿਥਾਰ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਪਇਆ ॥
karahi bikaar vithaar ghanayray surat sabad bin bharam pa-i-aa.
For the sake of your evil desires, you put on many ostentatious shows; but without attuning to the Guru’s word, you have fallen into doubt.
ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਖਿਲਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ॥੬॥
ha-umai rog mahaa dukh laagaa gurmat layvhu rog ga-i-aa. ||6||
You suffer great pain from the disease of egotism; if you seek and follow the Guru’s teachings then consider this disease gone. ||6|
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰੋਗ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਨ ਕਿ ਏਹ ਰੋਗ ਗਿਆ ॥੬॥
ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਕਉ ਆਵਤ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਾਕਤ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
sukh sampat ka-o aavat daykhai saakat man abhimaan bha-i-aa.
Seeing the worldly pleasures and wealth coming, the mind of a faithless cynic becomes arrogant.
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਜਦੋਂ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੭॥
jis kaa ih tan Dhan so fir layvai antar sahsaa dookh pa-i-aa. ||7||
But when God, the one to whom this body and wealth belongs, takes these back, then he feels anxiety and sorrow within his mind. ||7||
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਮਇਆ ॥
ant kaal kichh saath na chaalai jo deesai sabh tiseh ma-i-aa.
O’ mortal, whatever is visible or you have is by God’s grace, but none of this goes along with anyone in the end.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਇਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਸਦਕਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਦਾ।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੮॥
aad purakh aprampar so parabh har naam ridai lai paar pa-i-aa. ||8||
The primal and all pervading God is infinite; whoever enshrines His Name in his heart, crosses over the worldly ocean of vices. ||8||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਹਿ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਅਸਰਾਲਿ ਪਇਆ ॥
moo-ay ka-o roveh kiseh sunaaveh bhai saagar asraal pa-i-aa.
O’ mortal, to whom are you narrating your grief over the death of a dear one? The entire humanity itself is drowning in the terrifying world-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ!ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਰੇ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਰੋ ਰੋ ਕੇ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ? ਸਾਰੀ ਲੋਕਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ
ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਜੰਜਾਲਿ ਪਰਾਲਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੯॥
daykh kutamb maa-i-aa garih mandar saakat janjaal paraal pa-i-aa. ||9||
Gazing upon his family, wealth, household and mansions, the faithless cynic is entangled in worthless worldly affairs. ||9||
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ, ਧਨ ਨੂੰ, ਸੋਹਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਨਿਕੰਮੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
