ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ॥
mayrai man tan lochaa gurmukhay raam raaji-aa har sarDhaa sayj vichhaa-ee.
O’ my sovereign king, through the Guru’s teachings, a yearning to realize You has welled up in my mind and heart and I have opened up my heart with faith.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦ) ਤਾਂਘ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਸਰਧਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੩॥
jan naanak har parabh bhaanee-aa raam raaji-aa mili-aa sahj subhaa-ee. ||3||
O’ God, the sovereign King! You intuitively manifest Yourself in that soul-bride who is pleasing to You, says devotee Nanak. ||3||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੩॥
ਇਕਤੁ ਸੇਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੋ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੇਈ ॥
ikat sayjai har parabho raam raaji-aa gur dasay har maylay-ee.
My God, the sovereign king dwells along with me in the same place, my heart; I can realize Him only when the Guru makes me aware of Him.
ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਸੇਜ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।ਜਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੱਸ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
mai man tan paraym bairaag hai raam raaji-aa gur maylay kirpaa karay-ee.
There is love and yearning in my mind and heart for uniting with God, but the Guru unites with God only those upon whom he bestows grace.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਦੇਈ ॥
ha-o gur vitahu ghol ghumaa-i-aa raam raaji-aa jee-o satgur aagai day-ee.
O my God, the sovereign King! I am dedicated to the Guru and I surrender myself to the true Guru.
ਹੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੇਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੬॥੫॥੭॥੬॥੧੮॥
gur tuthaa jee-o raam raaji-aa jan naanak har maylay-ee. ||4||2||6||5||7||6||18||
O’ God, the sovereign king! the Guru unites that one with You, on whom he is totally pleased, says devotee Nanak. ||4||2||6||5||7||6||18||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੬॥੫॥੭॥੬॥੧੮॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਤੂ ਕਾਏ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
sun baavray too kaa-ay daykh bhulaanaa.
Listen, O’ silly person, looking at the worldly riches and power, why are you forgetting the righteous way of life?
ਹੋ ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ! ਸੁਣ। ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਨੇਹੁ ਕੂੜਾ ਲਾਇਓ ਕੁਸੰਭ ਰੰਗਾਨਾ ॥
sun baavray nayhu koorhaa laa-i-o kusambh rangaanaa.
Listen, O’ foolish person! you are attached to the false love of worldly riches which is transitory like the color of a safflower.
ਹੇ ਬਾਵਰੇ! ਸੁਣ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਰਗੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ) ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਕੂੜੀ ਡੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੋ ਅਢੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਮੁਲੋ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥
koorhee daykh bhulo adh lahai na mulo govid naam majeethaa.
You are going astray, gazing at the worldly riches which in the end is not even worth half a penny; only God’s Name is everlasting.
ਤੂੰ (ਉਸ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਜਿਹੜੀ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਅੱਧੀ ਕੌਡੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਟ ਸਕਦੀ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮਜੀਠ ਦੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ।
ਥੀਵਹਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਅਤਿ ਗੁਲਾਲਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
theeveh laalaa at gulaalaa sabad cheen gur meethaa.
By reflecting on the Guru’s sweet word, you would become so deeply imbued with the love of God, as if you have become red like a poppy flower.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਪੋਸਤ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਥੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਝੂਠ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥
mithi-aa mohi magan thee rahi-aa jhooth sang laptaanaa.
But you are intoxicated with false emotional attachment and are attached to falsehood, the things which are not going to accompany you in the end.
ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭਣਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਭਗਤਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
naanak deen saran kirpaa niDh raakh laaj bhagtaanaa. ||1||
O’ God, the treasure of mercy! I, the helpless Nanak, have come to Your refuge; please save my honor as You have been preserving the honor of devotees. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ) ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਸੇਵਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਾਥੁ ਪਰਾਣਾ ॥
sun baavray sayv thaakur naath paraanaa.
Listen, O’ silly person, lovingly remember that God who is the Master of life.
ਹੇ ਬਾਵਰੇ! ਸੁਣ; ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
sun baavray jo aa-i-aa tis jaanaa.
Listen O’foolish person, whosoever has come in this world, shall also depart.
ਹੇ ਝੱਲੇ! ਸੁਣ, ਜਿਹੜਾ (ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਜਾਣਾ ਭੀ ਪਏਗਾ।
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਭ ਵੈਸੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
nihchal habh vaisee sun pardaysee satsang mil rahee-ai.
Listen, O stranger: that which you believe to be permanent, shall all pass away; so remain in the Congregation of saintly people.
ਹੇ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੀਵ!! ਸੁਣ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸਥਿਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਹੀ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਗੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਚਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
har paa-ee-ai bhaagee sun bairaagee charan parabhoo geh rahee-ai.
Listen, O’ renunciate, remain attached to God’s Name because He is realized only by good fortune
ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣ, ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਤਿਆਗੀ! ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਸੰਕ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਜਿ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
ayhu man deejai sank na keejai gurmukh taj baho maanaa.
Without any doubt, surrender your mind to the Guru and renounce your ego and extreme pride.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਝਿਝਕ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਭਗਤ ਭਵ ਤਾਰਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
naanak deen bhagat bhav taaran tayray ki-aa gun aakh vakhaanaa. ||2||
Nanak says, O’ God, You ferry the meek and the devotees across the worldly ocean of vices, which of Your infinite virtues I may utter and describe? ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ-) ਹੇ (ਸਰਨ ਪਏ) ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ॥੨॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਚੈ ਕੂੜਾ ਮਾਨੋ ॥
sun baavray ki-aa keechai koorhaa maano.
Listen O’ silly person, what is the use of engaging in false pride?
ਹੇ ਭਾਵਰੇ! (ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ) ਝੂਠਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਹਭੁ ਵੈਸੀ ਗਰਬੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੋ ॥
sun baavray habh vaisee garab gumaano.
Yes, listen O’ silly person, all your pride and ego will vanish.
ਹੇ ਬਾਵਰੇ! ਸੁਣ, (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਟੁੱਟਿਆਂ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰਾ ਮਾਣ ਤੇ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਭ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥
nihchal habh jaanaa mithi-aa maanaa sant parabhoo ho-ay daasaa.
What you think is permanent shall all pass away; ego is false, so become the humble devotee of God’s Saints.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ। (ਇਥੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੀਐ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਜੇ ਥੀਵੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸਾ ॥
jeevat maree-ai bha-ojal taree-ai jay theevai karam likhi-aasaa.
Remain detached from worldly riches while still alive, and you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices as per your pre-ordained destiny.
ਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,) ਜੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੋ ॥
gur sayveejai amrit peejai jis laaveh sahj Dhi-aano.
One whom God imperceptibly attunes to His devotional worship through the Guru’s teachings; partates the ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ,) ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੋ ॥੩॥
naanak saran pa-i-aa har du-aarai ha-o bal bal sad kurbaano. ||3||
O God’ Nanak has come to Your refuge and is dedicated to You forever. ||3||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sun baavray mat jaaneh parabh mai paa-i-aa.
Listen O silly person, don’t ever think that you have realized God on your own.
ਹੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਝੱਲੇ (ਹੋ ਰਹੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਮੈਂ ਕਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣ। ਇਹ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਕਿ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਭੀ) ਮੈਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਥੀਉ ਰੇਣੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sun baavray thee-o rayn jinee parabh Dhi-aa-i-aa.
Listen O’ foolish person, keep humbly serving those who have lovingly remembered God.
ਹੇ ਬਾਵਰੇ! ਸੁਣ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੁ (ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
jin parabh Dhi-aa-i-aa tin sukh paa-i-aa vadbhaagee darsan paa-ee-ai.
Those who have lovingly remembered God, have attained the celestial peace; but it is by good fortune that one experiences His blessed vision.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਥੀਉ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ਸਗਲਾ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਈਐ ॥
thee-o nimaanaa sad kurbaanaa saglaa aap mitaa-ee-ai.
Be humble, dedicate yourself forever who have lovingly remembered God and this way your ego shall be totally eradicated.
ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਭਾਗ ਸੁਧਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਧਾ ਹਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੇਚਾਇਆ ॥
oh Dhan bhaag suDhaa jin parabh laDhaa ham tis peh aap vaychaa-i-aa.
Blessed is that fortunate person who has realized God; I have surrendered myself to that fortunate person.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਅਪਨਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak deen saran sukh saagar raakh laaj apnaa-i-aa. ||4||1||
Nanak says: O’ God, the ocean of peace, support of the helpless, make me Your own and save my honor. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ! (ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤੀ ਤੁਸਿ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥
har charan kamal kee tayk satgur ditee tus kai bal raam jee-o.
Becoming gracious, the true Guru has blessed me with the support of God’s immaculate Name; I am dedicated to the all pervading God.
ਮੈਂ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
