Raag Jaitsri, Fifth Guru, Fourth Beat, Du-Padas:
ਰਾਗ ਜੈਤਸਰੀ, ਘਰ ੪ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਦੋ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One Eternal God. Realized by the grace Of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗ੍ਯ੍ਯਿ ॥
ab mai sukh paa-i-o gur aaga-y.
By the Guru’s grace, now I have attained true bliss by walking the path ordained by him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਵਿਚ (ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਜੀ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਚਿੰਤ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਹੰ ਛੋਡਿਓ ਹੈ ਤਿਆਗ੍ਯ੍ਯਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tajee si-aanap chint visaaree ahaN chhodi-o hai ti-aaga-y. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have abandoned my cleverness, forsaken my anxiety and renounced my egotism. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਹਉਮੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਪਰੇ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ l
ਜਉ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਉ ਸਗਲ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੋਹੀਅਉ ਤਉ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਗਿ ॥
ja-o daykh-a-u ta-o sagal mohi mohee-a-o ta-o saran pari-o gur bhaag.
When I saw that everyone was enticed by emotional attachment, I hurried to the Guru’s refuge.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਜਾ ਪਿਆ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਟਹਲ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਜਮਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮੋਰੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੧॥
kar kirpaa tahal har laa-i-o ta-o jam chhodee moree laag. ||1||
Showing mercy, the Guru engaged me to the meditation of God and then the fear of death left me alone. ||1||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤਦੋਂ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਖਹੜਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥
ਤਰਿਓ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੋ ਜਉ ਸੰਤ ਭੇਟੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ॥
tari-o saagar paavak ko ja-o sant bhaytay vad bhaag.
By great good fortune, when I met the Guru I swam across the fiery ocean of vices.
ਜਦੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਮੈਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੨॥੧॥੫॥
jan naanak sarab sukh paa-ay moro har charnee chit laag. ||2||1||5||
O’ Nanak, I have found total peace because my consciousness is attuned to God’s immaculate Naam. ||2||1||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l

Raag Jaitsri, Fifth Guru:
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਾ ॥
man meh satgur Dhi-aan Dharaa.
When I focused my mind on the true Guru,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਿਆ,
ਦ੍ਰਿੜਿ੍ਹ੍ਹਓ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darirhhi-o gi-aan mantar har naamaa parabh jee-o ma-i-aa karaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
With the mercy of the almighty God, I was able to enshrine the mantra of God’s Name in my heart. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਲਿਆ,
ਕਾਲ ਜਾਲ ਅਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ਛੁਟਕੇ ਜਮਹਿ ਡਰਾ ॥
kaal jaal ar mahaa janjaalaa chhutkay jameh daraa.
With the help of the Guru, I got rid of the nooses of spiritual death, worldly entanglements, and the fear of the demon of death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਅਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਈਆਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ, ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਆਇਓ ਦੁਖ ਹਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਕਰੁਣਾਪਤਿ ਗਹਿਓ ਚਰਣ ਆਸਰਾ ॥੧॥
aa-i-o dukh haran saran karunaapat gahi-o charan aasraa. ||1||
I came to the refuge of the merciful God, the destroyer of sorrow and grasped the support of His Name.||1||
(ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ) ਮੈਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ, ਤਰਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ l
ਨਾਵ ਰੂਪ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾ ॥
naav roop bha-i-o saaDhsang bhav niDh paar paraa.
The holy congregation became like a boat for me, riding which I have crossed the dreadful ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬੇੜੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਮੈਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਓ ਗਤੁ ਥੀਓ ਭਰਮਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੬॥
api-o pee-o gat thee-o bharmaa kaho naanak ajar jaraa. ||2||2||6||
Nanak says, “I have partaken the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name, my doubt has vanished, and I have received the everlasting supreme spritual state”. ||2||2||6||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਢੇਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ l

Raag Jaitsri, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jaa ka-o bha-ay govind sahaa-ee.
Those whom God extends His support,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਉ ਵਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sookh sahj aanand sagal si-o vaa ka-o bi-aaDh na kaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
spend all their life in peace, poise and bliss; no ailment ever afflicts them. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਆਨੰਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ l
ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਲੇਪਾ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਉਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
deeseh sabh sang raheh alaypaa nah vi-aapai un maa-ee.
They seem to mingle with everyone but remain detached and Maya doesn’t afflict them.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਏਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਤਤ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
aikai rang tat kay baytay satgur tay buDh paa-ee. ||1||
They receive such wisdom from the true Guru that they understand the essence of reality and remain absorbed in the love of God.||1||
ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੇ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ-ਇਹ ਅਕਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਈ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
da-i-aa ma-i-aa kirpaa thaakur kee say-ee sant subhaa-ee.
Those upon whom God bestows His kindness, compassion and mercy, become sublime Saints.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਭਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਦਇਆ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥੩॥੭॥
tin kai sang naanak nistaree-ai jin ras ras har gun gaa-ee. ||2||3||7||
O’ Nanak, we swim across the ocean of vices in the company of those who sing the praises of God with love and joy. ||2||3||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ l

Raag Jaitsri, Fifth Guru:
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨ ਰੂਪ ॥
gobind jeevan paraan Dhan roop.
O’ God, You are our life, breath, wealth, and beauty.
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਤੂੰ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈਂ, ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹੈਂ, ਧਨ ਹੈਂ, ਸੁਹਜ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
agi-aan moh magan mahaa paraanee anDhi-aaray meh deep. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The spiritually ignorant human beings remain totally drowned in emotional attachments and in this darkness,You are the only source of light. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਵ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਵਿਚ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਲਈ) ਦੀਵਾ ਹੈਂ l
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਨੂਪ ॥
safal darsan tumraa parabh pareetam charan kamal aanoop.
O’ beloved God, fruitful is Your sight and incomparable Your love.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਬੇ-ਮਿਸਾਲ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਕਰਉ ਤਿਹ ਬੰਦਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਚਰ੍ਹਾਵਉ ਧੂਪ ॥੧॥
anik baar kara-o tih bandan maneh charHaava-o Dhoop. ||1||
In reverence and with all my heart I bow to You many many times. I let go my ego in the same manner an incense lets go its existence. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਧੂਪ ਵਜੋਂ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਹੀ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਲੂਕ ॥
haar pari-o tumHrai parabh du-aarai darirhHu kar gahee tumHaaree look.
O’ God, exhausted from all other sources of support, I have sought Your shelter and have firm faith in Your support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਥੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫੜ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੇ ਕੂਪ ॥੨॥੪॥੮॥
kaadh layho naanak apunay ka-o sansaar paavak kay koop. ||2||4||8||
O’ God, lift Your humble servant Nanak up, out of the pit of fire (Maya). |2|4||8|
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ l

ਕੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਜੋਰਿ ॥
ko-ee jan har si-o dayvai jor.
If only someone unite me with God!
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਚਰਨ ਗਹਉ ਬਕਉ ਸੁਭ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਕੋਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan gaha-o baka-o subh rasnaa deejeh paraan akor. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I would bow before him, utter sweet words to thank him and offer my very life to him.||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਫੜ ਲਵਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦੇ) ਮਿੱਠੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟਾ ਚੜਾਵਾਂ l
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਤ ਕਿਆਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਚੈ ਸੁਧਾ ਸੰਜੋਰਿ ॥
man tan nirmal karat ki-aaro har sinchai suDhaa sanjor.
Only a rare person transforms his mind and body and then rightly irrigates it with the nectar of God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਿਆਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿੰਜਦਾ ਹੈ l,
ਇਆ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੋਰਿ ॥੧॥
i-aa ras meh magan hot kirpaa tay mahaa bikhi-aa tay tor. ||1||
