ਦੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਗੈ ਦੂਣੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
dukh lagai ghar ghar firai agai doonee milai sajaa-ay.
A person who acts like a Yogi simply by wearing holy garbs, gets afflicted with pain; goes from door to door and receives double punishment in the world hereafter.
(ਭੇਖੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਕਲਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਘਰ ਘਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਭੁਗਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
andar sahj na aa-i-o sehjay hee lai khaa-ay.
He is never at peace within so that he is not content to eat whatever he receives from anyone.
ਭੇਖੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਜਿਸ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲੇ, ਲੈ ਕੇ ਖਾ ਲਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ);
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਲੈਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਨਾਇ ॥
manhath jis tay mangnaa lainaa dukh manaa-ay.
To beg from somebody by forcing one’s will using coercive methods, is to inflict pain both on one-self and the donor.
ਪਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ (ਭਿੱਖਿਆ) ਮੰਗਿਆਂ (ਦੋਹੀਂ ਧਿਰੀਂ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਭਿੱਖਿਆ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸੁ ਭੇਖੈ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਗਿਰਹੋ ਭਲਾ ਜਿਥਹੁ ਕੋ ਵਰਸਾਇ ॥
is bhaykhai thaavhu girho bhalaa jithahu ko varsaa-ay.
Better than such persons who put on holy garbs is a householder, because he can satisfy the needs of others.
ਇਸ ਭੇਖ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਥੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
sabad ratay tinaa sojhee pa-ee doojai bharam bhulaa-ay.
Those who are attuned to the teachings of the True Guru acquire better understanding, whereas others who are entangled in Maya, remain strayed in doubt.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਸੂਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਪਰ, ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
pa-i-ai kirat kamaavanaa kahnaa kachhoo na jaa-ay.
However, nothing else can be said about it , because people have to do, what is pre-ordained on the basis of their past deeds.
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਉਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਕੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ?
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਥਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak jo tis bhaaveh say bhalay jin kee pat paavahi thaa-ay. ||1||
Therefore O’ Nanak, only they are good who are pleasing to God and whose honor He upholds. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਥਾਂਇ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai sadaa sukh janam maran dukh jaa-ay.
By following the teachings of the True Guru, one finds a lasting peace, and one’s suffering of going through cycle of birth and death, goes away.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜਮਣ-ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
chintaa mool na hova-ee achint vasai man aa-ay.
Then, there is absolutely no anxiety, since the fearless God comes to reside in one’s mind.
ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥
antar tirath gi-aan hai satgur dee-aa bujhaa-ay.
The True Guru makes a person realize that the sacred shrine of spiritual wisdom is deep within himself.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਗਿਆਨ (-ਰੂਪ) ਤੀਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਲੁ ਗਈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
mail ga-ee man nirmal ho-aa amrit sar tirath naa-ay.
When one bathes in the tank of nectar in the holy place then all the dirt of evil thoughts goes away, and the mind becomes immaculate.
ਜੋ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੀਰਥ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਮਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਜਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
sajan milay sajnaa sachai sabad subhaa-ay.
Being blessed by their love and devotion of the True Gospel of the Guru, virtuous people get to meet other friends with Divine knowledge.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਆ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਚਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
ghar hee parchaa paa-i-aa jotee jot milaa-ay.
In this way, they develop firm faith in God, and their soul gets merged in the Supreme Soul.
ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਰੂਪ) ਆਹਰ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਈ ਲੈ ਜਾਸੀ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
pakhand jamkaal na chhod-ee lai jaasee pat gavaa-ay.
Fear of death does not spare one even when one indulges in hypocrisy and the demon of death drags one away in disrespectful manner.
ਪਰ, ਪਖੰਡ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, (ਪਖੰਡ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਮੌਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak naam ratay say ubray sachay si-o liv laa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, only those who are attuned to the Name of God, are saved because they remain imbued with Him. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਸਹਮ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਤਿਤੁ ਜਾਇ ਬਹਹੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤੀ ਜਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਲੋਈਐ ॥
tit jaa-ay bahhu satsangtee jithai har kaa har naam bilo-ee-ai.
O’ my friends, go and join that true congregation, where the Name of God is chanted repeatedly.
ਉਸ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੋ, ਜਿਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਖੋਈਐ ॥
sehjay hee har naam layho har tat na kho-ee-ai.
Over there meditate on the Name of God in a very peaceful and poised manner, lest you should lose its essence.
(ਉਥੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਮਨ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਨਾਮ-ਤੱਤ ਖੁੱਸ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ।
ਨਿਤ ਜਪਿਅਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਢੋਈਐ ॥
nit japi-ahu har har dinas raat har dargeh dhoo-ee-ai.
Meditate on God’s Name constantly day and night since it helps in getting accepted in His presence.
ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਢੋਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਲਾਟਿ ਲਿਖੋਈਐ ॥
so paa-ay pooraa satguroo jis Dhur mastak lilaat likho-ee-ai.
However, only that person is blessed with the guidance of the Perfect True Guru who has been destined from the very beginning to perform good deeds.
ਪਰ, ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ (ਭਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੰਉ ਸਭਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਲ ਗਲੋਈਐ ॥੪॥
tis gur kaN-u sabh namaskaar karahu jin har kee har gaal galo-ee-ai. ||4||
Finally, you should all pay homage to That Guru, who always explains to you about the Divine Knowledge of That God. ||4||
ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਓ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਜਣਾ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sajan milay sajnaa jin satgur naal pi-aar.
Virtuous people meet other good people, who also love the True Guru.
ਉਹ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
mil pareetam tinee Dhi-aa-i-aa sachai paraym pi-aar.
They get together and meditate on the Beloved God with true love and affection.
ਉਹ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸੱਚੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ;।
ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
man hee tay man maani-aa gur kai sabad apaar.
By reflecting on the infinite teachings of the Guru, their minds are pacified by themselves.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਹਿ ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
ayhi sajan milay na vichhurheh je aap maylay kartaar.
When such virtuous people meet, they do not separate again because they have been united by God Himself.
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ (ਇਕ ਵਾਰੀ) ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਫਿਰ ਵਿਛੁੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਨਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਈਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
iknaa darsan kee parteet na aa-ee-aa sabad na karahi veechaar.
Some strayed ones from God, do not believe in Blessed Vision of the Guru because they do not reflect on His teachings.
ਇਕਨਾਂ (ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦਾ ਯਕੀਨ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੱਝਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
vichhurhi-aa kaa ki-aa vichhurhai jinaa doojai bhaa-ay pi-aar.
What more separation could they suffer since they are already separated from God due to their love of worldly attachments?
ਪਰ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ) ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੋਇਆ?
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਤੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਥੋੜੜਿਆ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
manmukh saytee dostee thorh-rhi-aa din chaar.
Friendship with self-conceited persons, is very short-lived and lasts only for a few days.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਥੋੜੇ ਹੀ ਦੋ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸੁ ਪਰੀਤੀ ਤੁਟਦੀ ਵਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਇਤੁ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਚਲਨਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
is pareetee tutdee vilam na hova-ee it dostee chalan vikaar.
It does not take much delay for such friendship to break down; moreover such friendship gives rise to many vices.
ਇਸ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਟੁੱਟਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ, (ਉਂਞ ਭੀ) ਇਸ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
jinaa andar sachay kaa bha-o naahee naam na karahi pi-aar.
Those who do not fear True God within their hearts and do not nurture love of Naam,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਚੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak tin si-o ki-aa keechai dostee je aap bhulaa-ay kartaar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, why should we have any friendship with them since they are strayed from God themselves? ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਿਉਂ ਪਾਈਏ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ? ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਇਕਿ ਸਦਾ ਇਕਤੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
ik sadaa iktai rang raheh tin kai ha-o sad balihaarai jaa-o.
I surrender to those persons who forever remain attuned to the love of That One God.
ਕਈ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਸਤ) ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ;
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
tan man Dhan arpee tin ka-o niv niv laaga-o paa-ay.
I feel like surrendering my body and mind to them and bow down to them to show my reverence.
(ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਧਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੇਟ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਉਂ ਨਿਉਂ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਲੱਗਾਂ।
ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥
tin mili-aa man santokhee-ai tarisnaa bhukh sabh jaa-ay.
The mind feels contented on meeting such persons, and one’s all desire and hunger are gone.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਠੰਢ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੇ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak naam ratay sukhee-ay sadaa sachay si-o liv laa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, such persons who are imbued with Naam, always remain happy, by remaining attuned to the love of True God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ॥
tis gur ka-o ha-o vaari-aa jin har kee har kathaa sunaa-ee.
I am dedicated to That Guru, Who has recited the Sermon of God to me.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੈ।
