ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੋ ॥੩॥
naanak sabad milai bha-o bhanjan har raavai mastak bhaago. ||3||
O’ Nanak, one who is destined, meditates on God forever and through meditation one gets imbued with God, the Destroyer of fear. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਖੇਤੀ ਵਣਜੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
khaytee vanaj sabh hukam hai hukmay man vadi-aa-ee raam.
Whatever a person is engaged in, farming or business, it is all as per God’s will. One achieves glory by obeying God’s will.
ਵਾਹੀ-ਖੇਤੀ ਤੇ ਵਪਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmatee hukam boojhee-ai hukmay mayl milaa-ee raam.
We can understand God’s will only by following the teachings of The Guru and we can get united with Him also by His will only.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
hukam milaa-ee sahj samaa-ee gur kaa sabad apaaraa.
One starts meditating on infinite God’s Name by His will only. Thus one becomes imbued with spiritual equipoise and gets merged with Him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sachee vadi-aa-ee gur tay paa-ee sach savaaranhaaraa.
In short, one achieves true glory through The teachings of The Guru, and then realises The Eternal God Who can embellish anyone’s life.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਚੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
bha-o bhanjan paa-i-aa aap gavaa-i-aa gurmukh mayl milaa-ee.
They who have shed their conceit get imbued with God, The Destroyer of fear, and it is through The Guru that God brings about one’s union with Himself.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਈ ਪਿਆਰ-ਅਦਬ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥
kaho naanak naam niranjan agam agochar hukmay rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||4||2||
Nanak says that God’s Name is immaculate, inaccessible and incomprehensible, and as per His will It is pervading everywhere. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਵਿੱਤਰ, ਅਥਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥
ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Wadahans, Third Guru:
ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
man mayri-aa too sadaa sach samaal jee-o.
O’ my mind, always meditate on The Eternal God,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ,
ਆਪਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਤੂ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
aapnai ghar too sukh vaseh pohi na sakai jamkaal jee-o.
by doing so, you would be peaceful within and even the demon of Spiritual death wouldn’t be able to touch you.
ਇੰਜ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇਗੀ।
ਕਾਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
kaal jaal jam johi na saakai saachai sabad liv laa-ay.
No entanglement of the demon of death can afflict one who attunes oneself to the True Religious Hymns.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਲ ਮੌਤ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ) ਤੱਕ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
sadaa sach rataa man nirmal aavan jaan rahaa-ay.
Being imbued with love of True God forever, one’s mind becomes immaculate, and then one’s cycle of birth and death comes to an end.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay bharam vigutee manmukh mohee jamkaal.
But the conceited person gets lost in the love of material things because he has been lured by Spiritual death.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
kahai naanak sun man mayray too sadaa sach samaal. ||1||
Nanak says, listen O’ my mind, meditate on The Eternal God forever. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ) ਸੁਣ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
man mayri-aa antar tayrai niDhaan hai baahar vasat na bhaal.
O’ my mind, the treasure of God’s Name is within you, do not search for it on the outside.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾਹ ਢੂੰਢਦਾ ਫਿਰ।
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭੁੰਚਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
jo bhaavai so bhunch too gurmukh nadar nihaal.
Instead, by following Guru’s teachings, receive the blessings of God’s Glance of Grace, and then you may enjoy whatever pleases you.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
gurmukh nadar nihaal man mayray antar har naam sakhaa-ee.
O’ my mind, be blessed by the Glance of God’s Grace by following the Guru’s teachings, and realize that the friendly Name of God is within you.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ, ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ-ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਲੱਭ ਪਏਗਾ)।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥
manmukh anDhulay gi-aan vihoonay doojai bhaa-ay khu-aa-ee.
But, the blind and conceited persons, who lack any divine knowledge, are wasted away in the love of the worldly riches and power.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਪਿਛੇ ਚਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਙੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
bin naavai ko chhootai naahee sabh baaDhee jamkaal.
No one is emancipated without meditating on God’s Name; all are bound in the bondage of demon of death.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ; ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
naanak antar tayrai niDhaan hai too baahar vasat na bhaal. ||2||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾਹ ਢੂੰਢਦਾ ਫਿਰ ॥੨॥
ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਇਕਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
man mayri-aa janam padaarath paa-ay kai ik sach lagay vaapaaraa.
O’ my mind, there are some, who getting blessed with this commodity of human birth, get engaged in this true trade of meditation on God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਕਈ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਇਹ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
satgur sayvan aapnaa antar sabad apaaraa.
They are devoted to their True Guru and within them abide the infinite Religious Hymns of God.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
antar sabad apaaraa har naam pi-aaraa naamay na-o niDh paa-ee.
They enshrine the infinite Religious Hymns of God within them, endear God’s Name and because of Naam they obtain nine treasures of worldly riches.
ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਲੱਭ ਲਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
manmukh maa-i-aa moh vi-aapay dookh santaapay doojai pat gavaa-ee.
But The conceited persons are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya, pain tortures them, and being in love with Maya, they lose their honour.
ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥
ha-umai maar sach sabad samaanay sach ratay aDhikaa-ee.
But those, who by conquering their ego, have attuned to the True Religious Hymns, remain imbued totally with True God;
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਬਹੁਤ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥
naanak maanas janam dulambh hai satgur boojh bujhaa-ee. ||3||
because, O’ Nanak, the True Guru has imparted this insight in them that it is so difficult to be blessed as a human being. ||3||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਬੜੀ ਔਖਿਆਈ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!॥੩॥
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
man mayray satgur sayvan aapnaa say jan vadbhaagee raam.
O’ my mind, those who follow the teachings of their True Guru, are the most fortunate beings.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੜੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
jo man maareh aapnaa say purakh bairaagee raam.
They who conquer their minds, are ascetics.
ਤੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥
say jan bairaagee sach liv laagee aapnaa aap pachhaani-aa.
Those persons of dispassion whose mind is fixated on True God have recognized their own selves.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
mat nihchal at goorhee gurmukh sehjay naam vakhaani-aa.
Their intellect is stable and very profound and those pious persons imperceptibly keep meditating on Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
ik kaaman hitkaaree maa-i-aa mohi pi-aaree manmukh so-ay rahay abhaagay.
Some are lovers of beautiful women; emotional attachment to Maya is very dear to them. Those unfortunate conceited persons remain asleep in negligence.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਬਦ-ਨਸੀਬ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ (ਕਾਮ-ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਹਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ (ਗ਼ਫ਼ਲਤ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak sehjay sayveh gur apnaa say pooray vadbhaagay. ||4||3||
But, O’ Nanak, perfect and truly fortunate are those who imperceptibly keep following the teachings of their Guru. ||4||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੩॥

Wadahans, Third Guru:
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਣਜੀਅਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
ratan padaarath vanjee-ah satgur dee-aa bujhaa-ee raam.
The person who has been bestowed with the insight, keeps trading the commodity of jewels of God’s Name.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਕੀਮਤੀ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
laahaa laabh har bhagat hai gun meh gunee samaa-ee raam.
He is blessed with the profit of devotion of God; by attuning to recitation of His praises, he becomes imbued with Him, the very source of virtues.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
