ਨਾ ਮਨੀਆਰੁ ਨ ਚੂੜੀਆ ਨਾ ਸੇ ਵੰਗੁੜੀਆਹਾ ॥
naa manee-aar na choorhee-aa naa say vangoorhee-aahaa.
Since neither the bangle seller who adorned these arms nor the bangles and bracelets that he gave you, could do you any good,
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਾਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨਿਆਰ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਸਵਾਰ ਸਕਿਆ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਚੂੜੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਵੰਗਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਈਆਂ।
ਜੋ ਸਹ ਕੰਠਿ ਨ ਲਗੀਆ ਜਲਨੁ ਸਿ ਬਾਹੜੀਆਹਾ ॥
jo sah kanth na lagee-aa jalan se bahrhee-aahaa.
may those arms burn down, which could not embrace The Spouse, God.
ਸੜ ਜਾਣ ਉਹ (ਸਜਾਈਆਂ) ਬਾਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਖਸਮ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗ ਸਕੀਆਂ।
ਸਭਿ ਸਹੀਆ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਣਿ ਗਈਆ ਹਉ ਦਾਧੀ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਵਾ ॥
sabh sahee-aa saho raavan ga-ee-aa ha-o daaDhee kai dar jaavaa.
All my friends are trying to please their beloved Spouse-God, to who may I, the unfortunate distressed one, approach?
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੜੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ?
ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਹਉ ਖਰੀ ਸੁਚਜੀ ਤੈ ਸਹ ਏਕਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਾ ॥
ammaalee ha-o kharee suchjee tai sah ayk na bhaavaa.
O’ friend, I feel I am truly immaculate because of my decent deeds but The Spouse-God doesn’t seem to like even a single one of them.
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਬੜੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ।
ਮਾਠਿ ਗੁੰਦਾਈ ਪਟੀਆ ਭਰੀਐ ਮਾਗ ਸੰਧੂਰੇ ॥
maath guNdaa-eeN patee-aa bharee-ai maag sanDhooray.
I, carefully get my hair combed and get the partings decorated with vermillion,
ਮੈਂ ਸਵਾਰ ਸਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਪੱਟੀਆਂ ਗੁੰਦਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਪੱਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਧੂਰ ਭੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਗੈ ਗਈ ਨ ਮੰਨੀਆ ਮਰਉ ਵਿਸੂਰਿ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥
agai ga-ee na mannee-aa mara-o visoor visooray.
but I am not accepted at all when I come before You. That’s why I am always sobbing to death.
ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਝੂਰ ਝੂਰ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੈ ਰੋਵੰਦੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਰੁਨਾ ਰੁੰਨੜੇ ਵਣਹੁ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ॥
mai rovandee sabh jag runaa runnrhay vanhu pankhayroo.
I am so distressed that the entire world, including the birds of the forest, are feeling for me,
ਮੈਂ ਇਤਨੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜੰਗਲ ਦੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕੁ ਨ ਰੁਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਨ ਕਾ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਉ ਪਿਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੋੜੀ ॥
ik na runaa mayray tan kaa birhaa jin ha-o pirahu vichhorhee.
but the inner conscious of my mind is the only one, that does not feel. It is the only one, that has separated me from my Spouse, God.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਇਸੇ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਆਇਆ ਭੀ ਗਇਆ ਮੈ ਜਲੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਰੋਇ ॥
supnai aa-i-aa bhee ga-i-aa mai jal bhari-aa ro-ay.
Even though, You-God came in my dream but since You left again, I cried a lot with ample tears.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ (ਸੁਪਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਿਆ, ਤੇ ਤੂੰ) ਫਿਰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ, (ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ) ਮੈਂ ਹੰਝੂ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਈ।
ਆਇ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਤੁਝ ਕਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭੇਜਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਕੋਇ ॥
aa-ay na sakaa tujh kan pi-aaray bhayj na sakaa ko-ay.
O’ God, I cannot reach You and I cannot send anybody else to You either who can tell my story to You.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਮੈਂ (ਨਿਮਾਣੀ) ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਅੱਪੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਗ਼ਰੀਬ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਘੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ (ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੇ)।
ਆਉ ਸਭਾਗੀ ਨੀਦੜੀਏ ਮਤੁ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
aa-o sabhaagee need-rhee-ay mat saho daykhaa so-ay.
Therefore, I request the blessed sleep: “please come, perhaps I might be able to see my Master through you”.
ਨੀਂਦ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਤਰਲੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ) ਸ਼ਾਇਦ (ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ।
ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਜਿ ਆਖੈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
tai saahib kee baat je aakhai kaho naanak ki-aa deejai.
Nanak says, what should I offer to a Guru’s follower, who tells me anything about You, the Master?
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਭੇਟ ਧਰਾਂ!
ਸੀਸੁ ਵਢੇ ਕਰਿ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਿਰ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
sees vadhay kar baisan deejai vin sir sayv kareejai.
I should chop off my head and offer it to him as a place to sit on and then serve him, without ego.
ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਵੱਢ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਲਈ ਆਸਣ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਆਂ (ਭਾਵ,) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂ।
ਕਿਉ ਨ ਮਰੀਜੈ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਾ ਸਹੁ ਭਇਆ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ॥੧॥੩॥
ki-o na mareejai jee-arhaa na deejai jaa saho bha-i-aa vidaanaa. ||1||3||
Yes, why don’t we kill the sense of ego and sacrifice our life, when our Spouse, God becomes indifferent to us? ||1||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਸਾਥੋਂ ਓਪਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਈਏ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ ॥੧॥੩॥

ਰਾਗ ਵਡਹੰਸ, ਘਰ ੧ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਤਨਿ ਧੋਤੈ ਮਨੁ ਹਛਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
man mailai sabh kichh mailaa tan Dhotai man hachhaa na ho-ay.
When one’s mind is soiled with evil thoughts then everything else is soiled and the mind cannot be purified just by washing the body.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਇਹ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
ih jagat bharam bhulaa-i-aa virlaa boojhai ko-ay. ||1||
But this world is led astray by superstitions and only a rare person understands this. ||1||
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
jap man mayray too ayko naam.
O’ my mind, you should recite God’s Naam only,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur dee-aa mo ka-o ayhu niDhaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
as The True Guru has blessed me with this Treasure of Naam.||1||Pause||
ਇਹ (ਨਾਮ-) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਿਧਾ ਕੇ ਆਸਣ ਜੇ ਸਿਖੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
siDhaa kay aasan jay sikhai indree vas kar kamaa-ay.
Even if a person learns the Asanas, practised by the skilled yogis and starts controling his senses,
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਸਣ ਕਰਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਏ ਤੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ (ਆਸਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ ਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ,
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
man kee mail na utrai ha-umai mail na jaa-ay. ||2||
still, the filth of the mind isn’t removed and the soil of egotism is not eliminated. ||2||
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ਤੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਹੋਰੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥
is man ka-o hor sanjam ko naahee vin satgur kee sarnaa-ay.
There is no other way to purify this mind except by worshipping The True Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਜਤਨ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
satgur mili-ai ultee bha-ee kahnaa kichhoo na jaa-ay. ||3||
Upon meeting the true Guru, one’s mind’s outlook is changed beyond expression. ||3||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਲਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਐਸੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਦੋ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
bhanat naanak satgur ka-o mildo marai gur kai sabad fir jeevai ko-ay.
Nanak says, the person, who upon meeting the true Guru, gives up vices and then re-lives in accordance with the Guru’s word,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਛੋਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਫਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਮਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਛਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
mamtaa kee mal utrai ih man hachhaa ho-ay. ||4||1||
his mental filth of worldly attachments, is removed and his mind becomes pure. ||4||1||
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਮਮਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

Wadahans, Third Guru:
ਨਦਰੀ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਨਦਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
nadree satgur sayvee-ai nadree sayvaa ho-ay.
It is only through God’s grace that we follow the teachings of The True Guru; by His grace alone, we have devotion for Him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਦਰੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
nadree ih man vas aavai nadree man nirmal ho-ay. ||1||
By God’s grace only, this mind can be controlled and it becomes immaculate. ||1||
ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਚੇਤਿ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
mayray man chayt sachaa so-ay.
O’ my mind, meditate on that True God with love and devotion.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਏਕੋ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayko cheeteh taa sukh paavahi fir dookh na moolay ho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If you would cherish the One God only, you would obtain peace and pain wouldn’t afflict you at all. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ, ਤੇ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹ ਸਕੇਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਦਰੀ ਮਰਿ ਕੈ ਜੀਵੀਐ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
nadree mar kai jeevee-ai nadree sabad vasai man aa-ay.
It is through God’s grace that one’s inner self comes to life after resisting the worldly temptations and the Guru’s word comes to reside in one’s heart.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਦਰੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
nadree hukam bujhee-ai hukmay rahai samaa-ay. ||2||
Through God’s grace only, one realises His Will and remains merged in that Will. ||2||
ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਚਖਿਓ ਸਾ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jin jihvaa har ras na chakhi-o saa jihvaa jal jaa-o.
The tongue that has not tasted the nectar of God’s Name should be burnt,
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਭ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਉਹ ਜੀਭ ਸੜਨ-ਜੋਗੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਨ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੇ ਲਗਿ ਰਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥੩॥
an ras saaday lag rahee dukh paa-i-aa doojai bhaa-ay. ||3||
because the person, whose tongue keeps relishing other worldly pleasures, keeps suffering grief due to its love for worldly temptations. ||3||
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਹੋਰ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਪਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਭਨਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਏਕ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
sabhnaa nadar ayk hai aapay farak karay-i.
God is the only One Who shows mercy on everybody, however, He Himself creates some differences in creatures (some are pious and some are sinners).
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਫ਼ਰਕ (ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak satgur mili-ai fal paa-i-aa naam vadaa-ee day-ay. ||4||2||
O’ Nanak, the fruit of meditating on Naam is realised only upon meeting The True Guru and one is blessed with the glory of God’s Naam. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥
