ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
jis simrat sukh ho-ay saglay dookh jaahi. ||2||
Remembering Him in meditation, happiness comes, and all sorrows and pains simply vanish. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੀਐ ॥
akul niranjan purakh agam apaaree-ai.
He is without relatives, immaculate, all-powerful, unapproachable and infinite.
ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ! ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਕਾਲਖ਼ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦੀ, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ,
ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥
sacho sachaa sach sach nihaaree-ai.
Truly, the True God is seen to be the Truest of the True, live and pervades everywhere.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁਚ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਧਾਰੀਐ ॥
koorh na jaapai kichh tayree Dhaaree-ai.
Nothing established by You appears to be false.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨਘੜਤ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦੀ।
ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਜੇਤ ਉਪਾਰੀਐ ॥
sabhsai day daataar jayt upaaree-ai.
The Great Giver gives sustenance to all those He has created.
(ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ) ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਇਕਤੁ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸੰਜਾਰੀਐ ॥
ikat soot paro-ay jot sanjaaree-ai.
Like a thread in a necklace, You have infused Your light throughout Your creation.
ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ (ਹੁਕਮ-ਰੂਪ) ਧਾਗੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ;
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਮੰਝਿ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਤਾਰੀਐ ॥
hukmay bhavjal manjh hukmay taaree-ai.
By His Will, some drown in the terrifying world-ocean, and by His Will, some are carried across.
ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਸੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਰੀਐ ॥
parabh jee-o tuDh Dhi-aa-ay so-ay jis bhaag mathaaree-ai.
O’ my God, he alone meditates on You, upon whose forehead such blessed destiny is inscribed.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵੇ;
ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥੧॥
tayree gat mit lakhee na jaa-ay ha-o tuDh balihaaree-ai. ||1||
Your condition and state cannot be known; I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥

Shalok, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jaa tooN tuseh miharvaan achint vaseh man maahi.
O’ merciful God, when You shower Your grace, You come to dwell in that heart.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
jaa tooN tuseh miharvaan na-o niDh ghar meh paahi.
When You are pleased, O’ Merciful God, I find the nine treasures within the my heart.
ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਨੋ, ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
jaa tooN tuseh miharvaan taa gur kaa mantar kamaahi.
When You are pleased, O’ Merciful God, I act according to the Guru’s Instructions.
ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
jaa tooN tuseh miharvaan taa naanak sach samaahi. ||1||
When You are pleased, O’ Merciful God, then Nanak is absorbed in the True One. ||1||
ਅਤੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੀਵ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਕਿਤੀ ਬੈਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਬੈਹਣੇ ਮੁਚੁ ਵਜਾਇਨਿ ਵਜ ॥
kitee baihniH baihnay much vajaa-in vaj.
Many sit on thrones or prestigious seats, to the sounds of musical instruments to proclaim their greatness.
(ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਰਹੀਆ ਲਜ ॥੨॥
naanak sachay naam vin kisai na rahee-aa laj. ||2||
O’ Nanak, with exception of Naam, no one’s greatness lasts forever. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ ॥੨॥

ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਸਣੁ ਖੜੇ ॥
tuDh Dhi-aa-eeniH bayd kataybaa san kharhay.
All religious books sing your praises, the Bible, Koran, their followers meditate on You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੌਰੇਤ, ਜ਼ਬੂਰ, ਅੰਜੀਲ, ਕੁਰਾਨ) ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਵੇਦ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਖੜੇ ਸਿਮਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਗਣਤੀ ਗਣੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਿ ਪੜੇ ॥
gantee ganee na jaa-ay tayrai dar parhay.
Uncounted are those who fall at Your Door (in utmost humility) .
ਇਤਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਣੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਾ ॥
barahmay tuDh Dhi-aa-eeniH indar indraasanaa.
Angel like Brahma meditates on You, as does Indra on his throne.
ਕਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਈ ਇੰਦਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ!
ਸੰਕਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣਾ ॥
sankar bisan avtaar har jas mukh bhanaa.
Angels Shiva and Vishnu, and their incarnations, recite the God’s Praise with their mouths,
ਕਈ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਉਚਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਪੀਰ ਪਿਕਾਬਰ ਸੇਖ ਮਸਾਇਕ ਅਉਲੀਏ ॥
peer pikaabar saykh masaa-ik a-ulee-ay.
as do the Pirs, the spiritual teachers, the prophets and the Shaykhs, the silent sages and the seers.
ਕਈ ਪੀਰ, ਪੈਗ਼ੰਬਰ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ ਤੇ ਵਲੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ),
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਉਲੀਏ ॥
ot pot nirankaar ghat ghat ma-ulee-ay.
Through and through, the Formless God is woven into each and every heart.
ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ! ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੌਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕੂੜਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ਧਰਮੇ ਤਗੀਐ ॥
koorhahu karay vinaas Dharmay tagee-ai.
One is destroyed through falsehood; through righteousness, one prospers.
ਝੂਠ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਤੋੜ ਨਿਭ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗੀਐ ॥੨॥
jit jit laa-ihi aap tit tit lagee-ai. ||2||
O’ God, in whatever direction You direct us we go .||2||
ਪਰ ਜਿਧਰ ਜਿਧਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਓਧਰ ਓਧਰ ਹੀ ਲੱਗ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Shalok, Fifth Guru:
ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਆਲਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ਸੇਰੁ ॥
chaNgi-aa-eeN aalak karay buri-aa-eeN ho-ay sayr.
He is reluctant to do good, but eager to practice evil.
(ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭੈੜੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜੁ ਕਲਿ ਆਵਸੀ ਗਾਫਲ ਫਾਹੀ ਪੇਰੁ ॥੧॥
naanak aj kal aavsee gaafal faahee payr. ||1||
O’ Nanak, today or tomorrow, the feet of the careless fool shall fall into the trap of death. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਦਾ ਪੈਰ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਆ ਦਬੋਚਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਕਿਤੀਆ ਕੁਢੰਗ ਗੁਝਾ ਥੀਐ ਨ ਹਿਤੁ ॥
kitee-aa kudhang gujhaa thee-ai na hit.
No matter how evil my ways are, still, Your Love for me is not concealed.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਅਸਾਡੇ ਕਈ ਖੋਟੇ ਕਰਮ ਤੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਢਕਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਿਤੁ ॥੨॥
naanak tai seh dhaki-aa man meh sachaa mit. ||2||
Nanak: You, O’ God, conceal my short-comings and dwell within my mind; You are my true friend. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਰਦਾ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਸ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ) ॥੨॥

ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਤੁਝੈ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਗੋਲਿਆ ॥
ha-o maaga-o tujhai da-i-aal kar daasaa goli-aa.
I beg of You, O’ Merciful God: please, make me the slave of Your slaves.
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ (ਇਹ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ;
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ॥
na-o niDh paa-ee raaj jeevaa boli-aa.
reciting Naam, I feel alive as if I have obtained all the treasures and kingdoms.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਤੇ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਤੇ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ) ਰਾਜ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਘਰਿ ਘਣਾ ॥
amrit naam niDhaan daasaa ghar ghanaa.
The treasure of this nectar like Naam is available in abundance in the house of Your devotees.
ਇਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਨਾਮ ਰੂਪ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੈ;
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਣਾ ॥
tin kai sang nihaal sarvanee jas sunaa.
In their company, I am in ecstasy, listening to Your Praises with my ears.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠ ਕੇ, ਆਪਣੇ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਜਸ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਮਾਵਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
kamaavaa tin kee kaar sareer pavit ho-ay.
Serving them, my body is purified.
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਖਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਸਿ ਬਿਗਸਾ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਇ ॥
pakhaa paanee pees bigsaa pair Dho-ay.
I wave the fans over them, and carry water for them; I grind the corn for them, and washing their feet, I am over-joyed.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੱਖਾ ਝੱਲ ਕੇ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ) ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋ ਕੇ, (ਚੱਕੀ) ਪੀਹ ਕੇ, (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਆਪਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥
aaphu kachhoo na ho-ay parabh nadar nihaalee-ai.
By myself, I can do nothing; O’ God, bless me with Your Glance of Grace.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਥੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕ,
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਦਿਚੈ ਥਾਉ ਸੰਤ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲੀਐ ॥੩॥
mohi nirgun dichai thaa-o sant Dharam saalee-ai. ||3||
I am worthless – please, bless me with company of Saints.||3||
ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਦੇਹ ॥੩॥

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਾ ਸਦ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
saajan tayray charan kee ho-ay rahaa sad Dhoor.
O’ Friend, I pray that I may remain forever the dust of Your Feet (Humbly accept your message).
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਾਂ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀਆ ਪੇਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak saran tuhaaree-aa paykha-o sadaa hajoor. ||1||
Nanak has entered Your Sanctuary, and beholds You ever-present. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖਾਂ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਅਸੰਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗ ॥
patit puneet asaNkh hohi har charnee man laag.
Countless sinners become pure, by fixing their minds on the Feet of the God (message of God).
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਏ,
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥੨॥
athsath tirath naam parabh jis naanak mastak bhaag. ||2||
Naam is the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, O Nanak, for one who has such destiny written upon his forehead. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥ ਹੈ, ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ (ਲਿਖੇ) ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:
ਨਿਤ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਵਦਿਗਾਰ ਦਾ ॥
nit japee-ai saas giraas naa-o paravdigaar daa.
With every breath and morsel of food, recite Naam, of the Cherisher.
ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਖਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰੇ ਰਹੰਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰਦਾ ॥
jis no karay rahamm tis na visaardaa.
He never forsakes that person from His mind on whom He shows His mercy.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨੋਂ) ਭੁਲਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ॥
aap upaavanhaar aapay hee maardaa.
He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself destroys.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
