ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
ih jee-o sadaa mukat hai sehjay rahi-aa samaa-ay. ||2||
Then, this soul is liberated forever (from ego or worldly attachments), and it remains absorbed in celestial bliss. ||2||
ਫਿਰ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥
Pauree:
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
parabh sansaar upaa-ay kai vas aapnai keetaa.
God created the Universe, and He keeps it under His control.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਗਣਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮੀਤਾ ॥
gantai parabhoo na paa-ee-ai doojai bharmeetaa.
By counting our ritualistic deeds, we do not realize God, and instead, we keep wandering in duality (love of things other than God).
(ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, (ਸਗੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਭਟਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮੀਤਾ ॥
satgur mili-ai jeevat marai bujh sach sameetaa.
By meeting the true Guru, if one becomes detached from the worldly attachments while still alive, then he understands the reality and embraces the Truth.
ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲੀਤਾ ॥
sabday ha-umai kho-ee-ai har mayl mileetaa.
By reflecting on the word of the Guru he sheds his ego and is united with God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਨਾਲ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਗਸੀਤਾ ॥੪॥
sabh kichh jaanai karay aap aapay vigseetaa. ||4||
God Himself knows and enacts everything, and He Himself rejoices upon seeing His Creation.||4||
ਤੇ (ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
satgur si-o chit na laa-i-o naam na vasi-o man aa-ay.
One who has not focused his consciousness on the True Guru, and is not able to attune his mind to Naam,
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਾਹ ਲਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਵੱਸਿਆ,
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਇਵੇਹਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਇ ॥
Dharig ivayhaa jeevi-aa ki-aa jug meh paa-i-aa aa-ay.
cursed is such a person’s life, what has he gained by coming into the world?
ਤਾਂ ਫਿਟੇ-ਮੂੰਹ ਇਸ ਜੀਊਣ ਨੂੰ! ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਕੀਹ ਖੱਟਿਆ?
ਮਾਇਆ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਏਕ ਚਸੇ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa khotee raas hai ayk chasay meh paaj leh jaa-ay.
The worldly wealth and power is a false, its glitter fades away instantly,
ਮਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਖੋਟੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਤਨੁ ਸਿਆਹੁ ਹੋਇ ਬਦਨੁ ਜਾਇ ਕੁਮਲਾਇ ॥
hathahu chhurhkee tan si-aahu ho-ay badan jaa-ay kumlaa-ay.
When this false commodity slips away from his hand, his whole body withers away due to the agony of loss,
ਜੇ ਇਹ ਗੁਆਚ ਜਾਏ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਮ ਨਾਲ) ਸਰੀਰ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕੁਮਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
jin satgur si-o chit laa-i-aa tinH sukh vasi-aa man aa-ay.
But they who have attuned their minds to the true Guru and follow his teachings are filled with peace.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ;
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
har naam Dhi-aavahi rang si-o har naam rahay liv laa-ay.
Imbued with love, they meditate on God, and are attuned to God’s Naam.
ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਸਉਪਿਆ ਜਿ ਜੀਅ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
naanak satgur so Dhan sa-upi-aa je jee-a meh rahi-aa samaa-ay.
O’ Nanak, the true Guru blesses them with such wealth, which remains enshrined in their hearts.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਧਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ;
ਰੰਗੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਉ ਅਗਲਾ ਵੰਨੀ ਚੜੈ ਚੜਾਇ ॥੧॥
rang tisai ka-o aglaa vannee charhai charhaa-ay. ||1|
They are dyed in the fast color of divine love, which keeps on increasing in radiance every day. ||1||
(ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਹ ਰੰਗ ਨਿੱਤ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੂਣਾ ਚਉਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਈ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਜਗਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa ho-ee naagnee jagat rahee laptaa-ay.
Maya is a like a serpent, that has wrapped itself around the world.
ਮਾਇਆ ਸੱਪਣੀ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਬੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
ਇਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਖਾਇ ॥
is kee sayvaa jo karay tis hee ka-o fir khaa-ay.
Whoever follows and serves it, it ultimately devours them.
ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਗਾਰੜੂ ਤਿਨਿ ਮਲਿ ਦਲਿ ਲਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
gurmukh ko-ee gaarrhoo tin mal dal laa-ee paa-ay.
It is only a rare Guru’s follower, who knows the secret for controlling this snake-like Maya, and thoroughly crushes it.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਸੱਪਣੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਸੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪਉੜੀ ॥
Pauree:
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak say-ee ubray je sach rahay liv laa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, they alone are saved, who remain lovingly absorbed in the True Naam. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੱਪਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਬਚੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਣਾਇਸੀ ॥
dhaadhee karay pukaar parabhoo sunaa-isee.
When one cries out to God like a minstrel,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਢਾਢੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧੀਰਕ ਹੋਇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥
andar Dheerak ho-ay pooraa paa-isee.
he is comforted within his mind, and realizes the Perfect God
ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਧੀਰਜ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਸੀ ॥
jo Dhur likhi-aa laykh say karam kamaa-isee.
and does those deeds which were written in that one’s destiny from the very beginning.
ਧੁਰੋਂ (ਪਿਛਲੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜੋ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਉੱਘੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੇ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਖਸਮੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥
jaa hovai khasam da-i-aal taa mahal ghar paa-isee.
In this way, as the Master (God) becomes merciful, one becomes united with Him.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਜਦੋਂ ਖਸਮ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਹਿਲ-ਰੂਪ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਾਇਸੀ ॥੫॥
so parabh mayraa at vadaa gurmukh maylaa-isee. ||5||
That God of mine is extremely great, and through the Guru He would unite us with Himself.||5||
ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸਹੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
sabhnaa kaa saho ayk hai sad hee rahai hajoor.
There is only one Master of all, who remains ever present.
ਸਭ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੰਨਈ ਤਾ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
naanak hukam na mann-ee taa ghar hee andar door.
But O’ Nanak, if one doesn’t obey His command, then even though present in his heart, He seems far away.
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਦੀ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਨਾਇਸੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
hukam bhee tinHaa manaa-isee jinH ka-o nadar karay-i.
However, only those obey His command on whom He casts His glance of grace.
ਹੁਕਮ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਤੋਂ ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
hukam man sukh paa-i-aa paraym suhaagan ho-ay. ||1||
Obeying His Command, one obtains peace, and becomes the happy, loving soul-bride. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਾਲੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਰੈਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਜਲਿ ਮੁਈ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ਭਾਉ ॥
rain sabaa-ee jal mu-ee kant na laa-i-o bhaa-o.
The soul-bride who does not love her Husband – God, burns and wastes away all through the night of her life.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਕੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਰੂਪ) ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਸੜ ਮੁਈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਘੀ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਨਿ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak sukh vasan sohaaganee jinH pi-aaraa purakh har raa-o. ||2||
O’ Nanak, those happy soul-brides live in peace, who have God, the king, as their beloved spouse.||2||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਖਸਮ) ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਸੌਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥
Pauree:
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
sabh jag fir mai daykhi-aa har iko daataa.
I have searched around the entire world, and have found that there is only one Giver (God) for all the creatures.
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਟੋਲ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ;
ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
upaa-ay kitai na paa-ee-ai har karam biDhaataa.
God, the architect of our destiny, is not realized by any of our clever gimmicks.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਿਧ ਬਨਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਸੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ;
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gur sabdee har man vasai har sehjay jaataa.
It is only through the Guru’s word that He comes to abide in our hearts, and so can be easily recognized.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਤਾ ॥
andrahu tarisnaa agan bujhee har amrit sar naataa.
Then the fire of worldly desire is quenched, and one becomes pure, as if he has bathed in the pool of ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਕੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਾਤਾ ॥੬॥
vadee vadi-aa-ee vaday kee gurmukh bolaataa. ||6||
Great is the glory of the great (God), He Himself causes a person to sing His praises through the Guru’s teachings.||6||
ਇਹ ਉਸ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਪਇਆ ਹੀ ਛਡਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
kaa-i-aa hans ki-aa pareet hai je pa-i-aa hee chhad jaa-ay.
The kinship of the soul with the body is so feeble, that it abandons the body as soon as the body falls (dies)!
ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੱਚਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ, ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਡਿੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਏਸ ਨੋ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਕਿ ਖਵਾਲੀਐ ਜਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
ays no koorh bol ke khavaalee-ai je chaldi-aa naal na jaa-ay.
When departing from this world, if this body doesn’t accompany the soul, then why sustain it through falsehood?
ਜਦੋਂ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਪਾਲਣ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ?
