ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਪਉਣੁ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
vismaadpa-unvismaadpaanee.
I am wonderstruck observing that somewhere the wind is blowing and somewhere water is flowing,
ਅਲੌਕਿਕ ਹੈ ਹਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੌਕਿਕ ਹੈ ਜਲ ।
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਖੇਡਹਿ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥
vismaadagnee khaydeh vidaanee.
It is amazing, how the fire is displaying its own astonishing plays.
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਈ ਅਗਨੀਆਂ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ;
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਖਾਣੀ ॥
vismaadDhartee vismaadkhaanee.
I am wonderfully astonished upon looking at this earth sustaining the creatures from all sources of life.
ਅਲੌਕਿਕ ਹੈ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਤਪਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ (ਅੰਡਜ, ਜੇਰਜ, ਉਤਭਜ, ਸੇਤਜ)
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸਾਦਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
vismaadsaadlageh paraanee.
It is amazing, how the mortals are involved in the enjoyment of Your bounties.
ਜੀਵ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ; ਇਹ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਥੱਰਾਹਟ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ॥
vismaadsanjog vismaadvijog.
Astonishing is the process through which people are being united or separated.
ਅਲੋਕਿਕ ਹੈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਹੈ, ਅਲੋਕਿਕ ਹੈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ;
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਭੁਖ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਭੋਗੁ ॥
vismaadbhukhvismaadbhog.
O’ God, it is hard to believe that somewhere there is so much hunger and at other places things are being enjoyed in plenty.
ਅਲੌਕਿਕ ਹੈ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਭੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੌਕਿਕ ਹੀ ਰਜੇਵਾਂ।
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥
vismaadsifatvismaadsaalaah.
Somewhere The Creator is being praised and eulogized,
ਕਿਤੇ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਉਝੜ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਰਾਹ ॥
vismaadujharhvismaadraah.
somewhere there is wilderness and at other places there are nicely laid out paths. It is just astonishing to see this wondrous play of Yours.
ਕਿਤੇ ਔਝੜ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਹਨ-ਇਹ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੈਰਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
vismaadnayrhai vismaaddoor.
It is amazing that some one says that You are near; another says that You are far off,
ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ;
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਹਾਜਰਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
vismaaddaykhai haajraa hajoor.
while still others see You right besides them (pervading everywhere).
ਹੈਰਾਨ-ਕੁਨ ਹੈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਐਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਵੇਖਣਾ।
ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਡਾਣੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥
vaykhvidaanrahi-aa vismaad.
Beholding these wonders, I am wonderstruck.
(ਰੱਬ ਦੀ) ਅਚਰਜ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਂਬਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਛਿੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੁਝਣੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ॥੧॥

O’ Nanak, those who understand theseastounding wonders of Yours are blessed with perfect destiny.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਇਲਾਹੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ

Salok, by the First Guru:
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਿਸੈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਭਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
kudratdisai kudratsunee-ai kudratbha-o sukhsaar.
Whatever is seen, or whatever is heard in the nature is all the wonder of Your power.
The revered fear of Yours which is the essence of peace, is all Your play.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਪਾਤਾਲੀ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
kudratpaataalee aakaasee kudratsarab aakaar.
It is Your power, which is being displayed in the nether worlds and the skies, and all the forms of the universe.
ਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
kudratvaydpuraankataybaa kudratsarab veechaar.
The vedas, the puranas, the semitic books and the thoughts expressed in these, have been possible by Your power.
ਵੇਦ, ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੇ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ, (ਹੋਰ ਭੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਸੱਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕਲਾ ਹੈ;
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਪੈਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਣੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
kudratkhaanaa peenaa painHankudratsarab pi-aar.
It is Your underlying energy, which is working behind the phenomena of eating, drinking, dressing up and the feeling of love in the living beings.
ਖਾਣ, ਪੀਣ, ਪੈਨ੍ਹਣ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਤੀ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਜਹਾਨ ॥
kudratjaatee jinsee rangee kudratjee-a jahaan.
By Your Power come the species of all kinds and colors; by Your Power the living beings of the world exist.
ਜਾਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਜਿਨਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਨੇਕੀਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਬਦੀਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
kudratnaykee-aa kudratbadee-aa kudratmaan abhimaan.
Even all the virtues, the evils, the honors and dishonors are happening as per Your power and will.
ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆਂ। ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਇਜਤ ਤੇ ਬੇਇਜਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਖਾਕੁ ॥
kudratpa-unpaanee baisantar kudratDhartee khaak.
By Your Power wind, water and fire exist; by Your Power earth and dust exist.
ਪਉਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤ), ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਹਨ।
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਾਦਿਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪਾਕੀ ਨਾਈ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
sabhtayree kudrattooNkaadir kartaa paakee naa-ee paak.
O’ God, everything is in Your Power, You are the all-powerful Creator. Your Name is the Holiest of the Holy.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਖੇਲ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਰਤੈ ਤਾਕੋ ਤਾਕੁ ॥੨॥
naanak hukmai andar vaykhai vartai taako taak. ||2||
O’ Nanak, He cherishes the creation as per His command, and pervades everywhere all by Himself.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਇਸ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ, ਇਕੱਲਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ l

ਆਪੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਿ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਭਸਮੜਿ ਭਉਰੁ ਸਿਧਾਇਆ ॥
aapeenHai bhog bhog kai ho-ay bhasmarhbha-ur siDhaa-i-aa.
After living through the pains and pleasures of life, mortal’s body is reduced to a pile of dust and the soul departs.
ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ-ਰੂਪ ਭਉਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਡਾ ਹੋਆ ਦੁਨੀਦਾਰੁ ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਘਤਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥
vadaa ho-aa duneedaar gal sangal ghatchalaa-i-aa.
When a person entangled in worldly affairs dies, he is led away to the court of the righteous Judge.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਗਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਗੈ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਵਾਚੀਐ ਬਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥
agai karnee keeratvaachee-ai bahi laykhaa kar samjhaa-i-aa.
There, the account of his good and bad deeds is added up and explained to him.
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਰੂਪ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਓਥੈ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਥਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪਉਦੀਈ ਹੁਣਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਰੂਆਇਆ ॥
thaa-o na hovee pa-udee-ee hunsunee-ai ki-aa roo-aa-i-aa.
He finds no place to hide and no one hears his cries of pain.
ਓਥੇ ਮਾਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਢੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕੂਕ-ਪੁਕਾਰ ਸੁਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
man anDhai janam gavaa-i-aa. ||3||
Due to the ignorance he has wasted the human birth in vain.
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ (ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵ) ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਵਣੁ ਵਹੈ ਸਦਵਾਉ ॥
bhai vich pavanvahai sadvaa-o.
In the revered fear of God, the wind and breeze keeps blowing forever.
ਹਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥
bhai vich chaleh lakhdaree-aa-o.
In the revered fear (under the will) of God, thousands of rivers flow.
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਭੀ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਢੈ ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ॥
bhai vich agan kadhai vaygaar.
In the revered fear of God, fire is performing assigned tasks.
ਅੱਗ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਬੀ ਭਾਰਿ ॥
bhai vich Dhartee dabee bhaar.
In the revered fear of God, the earth is bearing the load of the creation.
ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਭਾਰ ਹੇਠ ਨੱਪੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਇੰਦੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰਿ ॥
bhai vich indfirai sir bhaar.
In the revered fear of God (under His command), king Indra, the god of rain in the form of cloud is hanging upside down,as if it is walking on its head.
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਇੰਦਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੇਘ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉੱਡ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਮ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
bhai vich raajaa Dharam du-aar.
In the Fear of God, the Righteous Judge of Dharma stands at His door-step.
ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਖੜਾ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਚੰਦੁ ॥
bhai vich sooraj bhai vich chand.
Under His Command, the sun shines and the moon reflects.
ਸੂਰਜ ਭੀ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ,
ਕੋਹ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਚਲਤ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥
koh karorhee chalatna ant.
They travel millions of miles, endlessly.
ਉਹ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੀਲ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਓੜਕ ਦੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਿਧ ਬੁਧ ਸੁਰ ਨਾਥ ॥
bhai vich siDhbuDhsur naath.
In the revered fear of God (under His command), live the Siddhas, the Buddhas, the demi-gods and Yogis.
ਸਿੱਧ, ਬੁਧ, ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਥ-ਸਾਰੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਕਾਸ ॥
bhai vich aadaanay aakaas.
It is in His revered fear that the sky is stretched over the earth
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਤਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰ ॥
bhai vich joDhmahaabal soor.
In the will of God, are the warriors and the most powerful heroes.
ਬੜੇ ਬੜੇ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਧੇ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਸਭ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਪੂਰ ॥
bhai vich aavahi jaaveh poor.
In His revered fear, multitudes of humans and creatures take birth and die.
ਪੂਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰ ਜੀਵ ਜੋ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਭ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਸਗਲਿਆ ਭਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
sagli-aa bha-o likhi-aa sir laykh.
The entire creation is functioning under His revered fear (command).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੀ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥
naanak nirbha-o nirankaar sach ayk. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only the eternal and formless God is without any fear.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਭੈ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ l

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਵਾਲ ॥
naanak nirbha-o nirankaar hor kaytay raam ravaal.
O’ Nanak, it is only the formless God alone, who is fearless; myriads of other gods are insignificant before Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਭੈ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, (ਅਵਤਾਰੀ) ਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ (ਉਸ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇ) ਤੁੱਛ ਹਨ;
ਕੇਤੀਆ ਕੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
kaytee-aa kanHkahaanee-aa kaytay baydbeechaar.
There are so many stories about Krishna, so many who reflect over the Vedas.
ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਸਾਖੀਆਂ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ।
ਕੇਤੇ ਨਚਹਿ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਗਿੜਿ ਮੁੜਿ ਪੂਰਹਿ ਤਾਲ ॥
kaytay nacheh mangtay girhmurhpooreh taal.
So many beggars dance, spinning around to the beat of drum.
ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ਬਾਜਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਇ ਕਢਹਿ ਬਾਜਾਰ ॥
baajaaree baajaar meh aa-ay kadheh baajaar.
The magicians perform their magic in the marketplace, creating a false illusion.
ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ ਭੀ ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਸਾਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਣੀਆ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਆਲ ਪਤਾਲ ॥
gaavahi raajay raanee-aa boleh aal pataal.
They sing about kings and queens, and narrate irrelevant stories.
ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ) ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਲਖ ਟਕਿਆ ਕੇ ਮੁੰਦੜੇ ਲਖ ਟਕਿਆ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ॥
lakhtaki-aa kay mund-rhay lakhtaki-aa kay haar.
They wear expansive earrings and necklaces.
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰੁਪਇਆਂ ਦੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਛਾਰ ॥
jittan paa-ee-ah naankaa say tan hoveh chhaar.
O’ Nanak, the bodies, on which the jewellery is worn, ultimately turn to ashes.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
