Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਗਤੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
dookh rog bha-ay gat tan tay man nirmal har har gun gaa-ay.
By singing the praises of God my mind has become pure and all my sorrows and ailments have left my body.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਬ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਕਤ ਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
bha-ay anand mil saaDhoo sang ab mayraa man kat hee na jaa-ay. ||1||
Upon meeting the Guru a sense of bliss has prevailed in me and now my mind doesn’t wander anywhere. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
tapat bujhee gur sabdee maa-ay.
O’ my mother, through the Guru’s Word the fire of worldly desires and vices has been quenched.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਗਇਓ ਤਾਪ ਸਭ ਸਹਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
binas ga-i-o taap sabh sahsaa gur seetal mili-o sahj subhaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Intuitively I have met such a soothing and peace giving Guru that all my anguish and dread has disappeared. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਸਹਮ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਡ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹੇ ਏਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਆਇ ਬਸੇ ਅਬ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਥਾਇ ॥
Dhaavat rahay ayk ik boojhi-aa aa-ay basay ab nihchal thaa-ay.
Since the time I have realized the one and only God, all my wanderings have ended and now I dwell in the state of equipoise.
ਜਦੋਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ l
ਜਗਤੁ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੨॥
jagat uDhaaran sant tumaaray darsan paykhat rahay aghaa-ay. ||2||
O’ God, beholding the blessed vision of Your saints, the savior of the world from the vices, my worldly desires have ended and I remain satisfied. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਨਮ ਦੋਖ ਪਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਛੈ ਅਬ ਪਕਰੇ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਇ ॥
janam dokh paray mayray paachhai ab pakray nihchal saaDhoo paa-ay.
O’ my mother, now with stable mind I have come to the Guru’s refuge; the sins of my many lives have become a thing of the past.
(ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਫੜ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਮੇਰੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਕਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਮੰਗਲ ਮਨੂਆ ਅਬ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਫੁਨਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥
sahj Dhun gaavai mangal manoo-aa ab taa ka-o fun kaal na khaa-ay. ||3||
Intuitively my mind keeps signing the celestial praises of God, because it is confident that now it will not be consumed by the fear of spiritual death. ||3||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਸੁਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੜੱਪ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
karan kaaran samrath hamaaray sukh-daa-ee mayray har har raa-ay.
O’ my sovereign God, the giver of peace, all powerful and the Cause of causes,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਕਰਾਣ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ!
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੪॥੯॥
naam tayraa jap jeevai naanak ot pot mayrai sang sahaa-ay. ||4||9||
Nanak is spiritually alive by meditating on Your Name. You are my continuous support. ||4||9||
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥੯॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਅਰੜਾਵੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ॥
arrhaavai billaavai nindak.
The slanderer of saintly persons cries out in pain and bewails.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੜਾ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਬੜਾ ਵਿਲਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paarbarahm parmaysar bisri-aa apnaa keetaa paavai nindak. ||1|| rahaa-o
The slanderer has forgotten the Supreme God and suffers the consequences of his own bad deeds. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਭੁੱਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਿੰਦਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਲੇ ਲਏ ਸਿਧਾਵੈ ॥
jay ko-ee us kaa sangee hovai naalay la-ay siDhaavai.
If anyone associates with him, then he also gets in the habit of slandering.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇ, ਤਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਅਜਗਰੁ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਏ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
anhodaa ajgar bhaar uthaa-ay nindak agnee maahi jalaavai. ||1||
The slanderer carries such a heavy load of sins as if carrying an imaginary dragon and keeps suffering as if burning in the fire of slandering others. ||1||
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਨੋ-ਕਲਪਤ ਹੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਭਾਰ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਜਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਤੀਤੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥
parmaysar kai du-aarai je ho-ay biteetai so naanak aakh sunaavai.
What happens to a slanderer in God’s court, that is what Nanak is telling and describing.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹ ਨਿਯਮ (ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ) ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਇ ਬਿਗਸਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੧੦॥
bhagat janaa ka-o sadaa anand hai har keertan gaa-ay bigsaavai. ||2||10||
The humble devotees of God are forever in bliss; singing God’s Praises, they always remain delighted. ||2||10||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧੦॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਜਉ ਮੈ ਕੀਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥
ja-o mai kee-o sagal seegaaraa.
(On behalf of that separated soul-bride, Guru Ji says): O’ my mother, Even when I decorated myself in every way,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਤਉ ਭੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਆਰਾ ॥
ta-o bhee mayraa man na patee-aaraa.
still, my mind was not satisfied.
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥
anik suganDhat tan meh laava-o.
I applied innumerable types of perfumes to my body,
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਵਰਤਦੀ ਹਾਂ,
ਓਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
oh sukh til samaan nahee paava-o.
still, I did not obtain even a tiny bit of that peace (which is obtained in union with husband-God).
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤਿਲ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ (ਜੋ ਸੁਖ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਐਸੀ ਆਸਾਈ ॥
man meh chitva-o aisee aasaa-ee.
Within my mind, I hold such a longing,
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਐਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਦੇਖਤ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
pari-a daykhat jeeva-o mayree maa-ee. ||1||
that I may remain spiritually alive by seeing my Beloved-God, O my mother. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਾਈ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਧੀਰੈ ॥
maa-ee kahaa kara-o ih man na Dheerai.
O mother, what should I do? This mind doesn’t rest in peace.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਂ ਕੀਹ ਕਰਾਂ? (ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਖਲੋਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pari-a pareetam bairaag hirai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The longing for the beloved has captivated it very much. ||1||Pause||
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖਿੱਚ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਭੂਖਨ ਸੁਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਿਸੇਖੈ ॥ ਓਇ ਭੀ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
bastar bibhookhan sukh bahut bisaykhai. o-ay bhee jaan-o kitai na laykhai.
I feel that without the Husband-God, garments, jewelry, and the exquisite pleasures are of no avail.
ਮੈਂ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ, ਗਹਣੇ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਉੱਤਮ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਪਤਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ॥
pat sobhaa ar maan mahat.
Even if I may enjoy, honor, fame, dignity and greatness,
ਇੱਜ਼ਤ, ਸੋਭਾ, ਆਦਰ, ਵਡਿਆਈ (ਭੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ),
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
aagi-aakaaree sagal jagat.
and the entire world may become obedient to me,
ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ,
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਾਲ ॥
garihu aisaa hai sundar laal.
and live in a beautiful household as expensive as a jewel.
ਬੜਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਤੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਘਰ (ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ),
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਾ ਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥
parabh bhaavaa taa sadaa nihaal. ||2||
even then, I could only remain happy forever If I am pleasing to Husband-God. ||2||
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਬਿੰਜਨ ਭੋਜਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥
binjan bhojan anik parkaar.
Even if I may be able to enjoy many kinds foods and delicacies,
ਜੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਣ,
ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
rang tamaasay bahut bisthaar.
and all kind of pleasures and entertainments,
ਬਹੁਤ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ (ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਣ),
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ॥
raaj milakh ar bahut furmaa-is.
I may have vast dominions and command over vast territories,
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਭੁਇਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ,
ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਜਾਇਸਿ ॥
man nahee Dharaapai tarisnaa na jaa-is.
still the mind doesn’t get satiated and its craving does not end.
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਇਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥
bin milbay ih din na bihaavai.
Without meeting the Husband-God, this day of mine does not pass in peace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਦਿਨ (ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਦਾ।
ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
milai parabhoo taa sabh sukh paavai. ||3||
The soul-bride enjoys total bliss only when she unites with God. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਇ ॥
khojat khojat sunee ih so-ay.
After a long and arduous search, I have heard this news,
ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
saaDhsangat bin tari-o na ko-ay.
that without the Holy congregation, no one has ever crossed over the world ocean of vices.
ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਹੜ੍ਹ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕਦੇ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਿਆ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jis mastak bhaag tin satgur paa-i-aa.
The person who is preordained meets the true Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ,
ਪੂਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇਆ ॥
pooree aasaa man tariptaa-i-aa.
His hopes are fulfilled and his mind becomes satisfied.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਚੂਕੀ ਡੰਝਾ ॥
parabh mili-aa taa chookee danjhaa.
When one realizes God, then the fire of his worldly desires gets quenched.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਭੜਕੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਮੰਝਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
naanak laDhaa man tan manjhaa. ||4||11||
O’ Nanak, that person has realized God within his heart. ||4||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
