ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh nirbha-o nirvair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhaN gur parsaad.
There is only one God whose Name is ‘of eternal existence’. He is the creator of the universe, all-pervading, without fear, without enmity, independent of time, beyond the cycle of birth and death and self revealed. He is realized by the Guru’s grace.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

so dar tayraa kayhaa so ghar kayhaa jit bahi sarab samHaalay.
O’ God, wonderful is that abode from where you are taking care of all ?
ਉਹ ਦਰ-ਘਰ ਬੜਾ ਹੀ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ (ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਵਾਜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਦ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥
vaajay tayray naad anayk asankhaa kaytay tayray vaavanhaaray.
Countless musicians are playing countless musical instruments producing countless melodies.
ਤੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਵਾਜੇ ਤੇ ਰਾਗ ਹਨ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਗ ਪਰੀ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥
kaytay tayray raag paree si-o kahee-ahi kaytay tayray gaavanhaaray.
So many minstrels sing to You in so many musical measures along with their accompanying harmonies.
ਰਾਗਣੀਆਂ ਸਣੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੀ ਰਾਗ ਕਹੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ) ਗਾਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ (ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਮ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno pa-un paanee baisantar gaavai raajaa Dharam du-aaray.
The air, the water and the fire are singing Your praises by performing their assigned duties; the righteous judge is singing Your praises at Your doorstep.
(ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ!) ਹਵਾ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਖਲੋ ਕੇ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਚਿਤੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno chit gupat likh jaanan likh likh Dharam veechaaray.
Also singing of You are the mythical angels, Chitar and Gupat, who know and record the deeds of human beings and on the basis of these writings the righteous judge passes judgement.
ਉਹ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਗੁਪਤ ਭੀ ਜੋ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੇਖੇ) ਲਿਖਣੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੇਖੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਈਸਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno eesar barahmaa dayvee sohan tayray sadaa savaaray.
The Shiva, the Brahma and the goddess Parvati, so beautiful and ever adorned by You are also singing Your praises.
(ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ!) ਦੇਵੀਆਂ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੋਭ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno indar indaraasan baithay dayviti-aa dar naalay.
The Indras seated upon their celestial thrones with the deities are singing Your praises at Your doorstep.
ਕਈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਸਾਧ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
aavniH tuDhno siDh samaaDhee andar gaavniH tuDhno saaDh beechaaray.
The siddhas absorbed in meditation are singing of You and so are other saints who keep reflecting on Your countless virtues.
ਸਿੱਧ ਲੋਕ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਵੀਰ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno jatee satee santokhee gaavan tuDhno veer karaaray
The celibates, the benevolent, the contented, and the mighty warriors are singing Your praises.
ਜਤ-ਧਾਰੀ, ਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤਕੜੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜੇ ਰਖੀਸੁਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਬੇਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gaavan tuDhno pandit parhay rakheesur jug jug baydaa naalay.
O’ God, age after age, the widely read pundits and the great sages along with their Vedas are singing Your praise.
(ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ!) ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਰਿਖੀ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਸਣੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno mohnee-aa man mohan surag machh pa-i-aalay.
The heart captivating beauties of the (mythical) paradise, this world and the nether regions are singing Your praises.
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਂਹਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਸੁਰਗ-ਲੋਕ, ਮਾਤ-ਲੋਕ, ਪਾਤਾਲ-ਲੋਕ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਤੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno ratan upaa-ay tayray jaytay athsath tirath naalay.
All the priceless jewels created by You along with the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage are singing Your praises.
(ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ!) ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਤਨ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno joDh mahaabal sooraa gaavniH tuDhno khaanee chaaray.
The great warriors, the brave men and the creation from all the four sources of life are singing Your praise.
ਵੱਡੇ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਧੇ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਚੌਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gaavniH tuDhno khand mandal barahmandaa kar kar rakhay tayray Dhaaray.
he continents, the worlds and the solar systems created and supported by You are singing Your praises.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ, ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ; ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇਈ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਸਾਲੇ ॥
say-ee tuDhno gaavniH jo tuDh bhaavniH ratay tayray bhagat rasaalay.
O’ God, only those who are pleasing to You are eulogising You and these are Your true devotees who are imbued with Your love.
ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਉਹੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਸੀਏ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
hor kaytay tuDhno gaavan say mai chit na aavan naanak ki-aa beechaaray.
So many others sing Your praises, which I cannot even count in my mind; how can Nanak think of them?
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਵ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਗਿਣੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ। ਨਾਨਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
so-ee so-ee sadaa sach saahib saachaa saachee naa-ee.
God is eternal and everlasting is His glory.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ।
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਾਈ ॥
hai bhee hosee jaa-ay na jaasee rachnaa jin rachaa-ee.
God who has created the creation is present now, He would always be here and would never depart.
ਜਿਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਐਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ, ਨਾਹ ਉਹ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮਰੇਗਾ।
ਰੰਗੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਭਾਤੀ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
rangee rangee bhaatee jinsee maa-i-aa jin upaa-ee.
That God who has created this world of Maya with its various colors and species .
ਜਿਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ, ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kar kar daykhai keetaa apnaa ji-o tis dee vadi-aa-ee.
Having created the creation He watches over it as it suits His glory.
ਉਹ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so-ee karsee fir hukam na karnaa jaa-ee.
He does whatever pleases Him; no one can issue any commands to Him.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਗੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਸੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥੧॥
so paatisaahu saahaa pat saahib naanak rahan rajaa-ee. ||1||1||
O’ Nanak, God is the sovereign king and it behooves to live according to His will.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ l ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਫੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥੧॥
