ਉਰ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਪਗੁ ਨਾ ਖਿਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ॥੧॥
ur na bheejai pag naa khisai har darsan kee aasaa. ||1||
her heart does not find any solace and she does not move from that place; similar is the state of that true devotee who hopes to see the sight of the beloved God. ||1||.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਲ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪੈਰ ਖਿਸਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਾਲਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਉਡਹੁ ਨ ਕਾਗਾ ਕਾਰੇ ॥
udahu na kaagaa kaaray.
O’ black crow, fly away and bring the news of my Groom-God,
ਹੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਕਾਂ! ਉੱਡ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਉੱਡ,
ਬੇਗਿ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bayg mileejai apunay raam pi-aaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
so that I may quickly meet my beloved God. ||1||Pause||
ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੇਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਵਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
kahi Kabir jeevan pad kaaran har kee bhagat kareejai.
Kabir says, to attain the supreme spiritual state in life, we should worship God with loving devotion.
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੪॥੬੫॥
ayk aaDhaar naam naaraa-in rasnaa raam raveejai. ||2||1||14||65||
We should depend on the support of God’s Name alone and with our tongue we should recite God’s Name. ||2||1||14||65||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੪॥੬੫॥

ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਘਨ ਤੁਰਸੀ ਕਾ ਬਿਰਵਾ ਮਾਝ ਬਨਾ ਰਸਿ ਗਾਊਂ ਰੇ ॥
aas paas ghan tursee kaa birvaa maajh banaa ras gaa-ooN ray.
Where there is a thick growth of sweet basil, there in the woods, lord Krishna was singing with great joy.
ਜਿਸ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਆਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਘਣੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਸਨ (ਅਤੇ ਜੋ) ਤੁਲਸੀ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
ਉਆ ਕਾ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਗੁਆਰਨਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਆਉ ਨ ਜਾਹੂ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
uaa kaa saroop daykh mohee guaaran mo ka-o chhod na aao na jaahoo ray. |1|
Beholding His wondrous beauty, the milkmaid was entranced and said, “Please don’t abandon me and encamp other places.”||1||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਗੋਕਲ ਦੀ) ਗੁਆਲਣ ਮੋਹੀ ਗਈ (ਤੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗੀ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਆਈਂ ਜਾਈਂ ॥੧॥
ਤੋਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਧਰ ॥
tohi charan man laago saaringDhar.
O’ my God, just like that milkmaid my heart is attuned to Your love also,
ਹੇ ਧਨੁਖਧਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਆਲਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਭੀ) ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੋ ਬਡਭਾਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so milai jo badbhaago. ||1|| rahaa-o.
yet that person alone realizes You who is very fortunate. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਓਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਿੰਦ੍ਰਾਬਨ ਮਨ ਹਰਨ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਚਰਾਵਤ ਗਾਊ ਰੇ ॥
bindraaban man haran manohar krisan charaavat gaa-oo ray.
O’ God, just as lord Krishna was the enticer of the poor milkmaids while he was herding cows in Vrindavan,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਬਿੰਦ੍ਰਾਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਚਾਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਗੋਕਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੁਆਲਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ,
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਤੁਹੀ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਧਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਨਾਊ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫॥੬੬॥
jaa kaa thaakur tuhee saaringDhar mohi Kabiraa naa-oo ray. ||2||2||15||66||
similarly please show mercy on me whose Name is Kabir and whose Master are You. ||2||2||15||66||

What is the use of wearing loose gowns, what is the use of living in jungles?
ਕਈ ਲੋਕ ਲੰਮੇ-ਚੌੜੇ ਚੋਲੇ ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ?) ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਵੱਸਣ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਗੁਣ?
ਕਹਾ ਭਇਆ ਨਰ ਦੇਵਾ ਧੋਖੇ ਕਿਆ ਜਲਿ ਬੋਰਿਓ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੧॥
kahaa bha-i-aa nar dayvaa Dhokhay ki-aa jal bori-o gi-aataa. ||1||
What is the use of burning incense before gods? What good does it do to dip one’s body in some holy river, if one has not attained divine wisdom? ||1||
ਜੇ ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਜਾਣ ਬੁਝ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਡੋਬ ਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਇਆ? ॥੧॥
ਜੀਅਰੇ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥
jee-aray jaahigaa mai jaanaaN.
O’ my soul, I know that you have to depart from this world.
ਹੈ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਏਗੀ।
ਅਬਿਗਤ ਸਮਝੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
abigat samajh i-aanaa.
Therefore O’ my ignorant mind, understand the eternal God.
ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜੀਵ!ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ।
ਜਤ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਪੇਖਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jat jat daykh-a-u bahur na paykha-o sang maa-i-aa laptaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ mortal, You are clinging to the transient worldly wealth but wherever I see, I don’t find it the same as before. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ (ਉਸ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਲਪਟ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ (ਜੋ) ਜਿਧਰ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੁੜ (ਪਹਿਲੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੀ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਗਲੋ ਧੰਧਾ ॥
gi-aanee Dhi-aanee baho updaysee ih jag saglo DhanDhaa.
The spiritual teachers, meditators and the great preachers are all engrossed in these worldly affairs.
ਸੁਰਤੇ, ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਉਪਦੋਸ਼ਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਹਨ।
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਇਆ ਜਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਅੰਧਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੬॥੬੭
kahi Kabir ik raam naam bin i-aa jag maa-i-aa anDhaa. ||2||1||16||67||
Kabir says: without lovingly remembering God’s Name, this entire world is blinded by Maya. ||2||1||16||67||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੬॥੬੭॥

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਛਾਡਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਡਾਂਡੇ ॥
man ray chhaadahu bharam pargat ho-ay naachahu i-aa maa-i-aa kay daaNday.
O’ my mind, you are the victim of Maya; abandon your doubts and fearlessly engage in devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਬੰਦੇ! ਸਹਿਸਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਾਹਰਾ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰ।
ਸੂਰੁ ਕਿ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਡਰਪੈ ਸਤੀ ਕਿ ਸਾਂਚੈ ਭਾਂਡੇ ॥੧॥
soor ke sanmukh ran tay darpai satee ke saaNchai bhaaNday. ||1||
What kind of a warrior is he who is afraid to face the battle; a woman can’t be a sati (burn on the pyre with her husband) if she starts worrying about worldly wealth at that time. ||1||
ਉਹ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਕਾਹਦਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਜਾਏ? ਉਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਜੋ (ਘਰ ਦੇ) ਭਾਂਡੇ ਸਾਂਭਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ॥੧॥
ਡਗਮਗ ਛਾਡਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ॥
dagmag chhaad ray man ba-uraa.
O’ my crazy mind, stop wavering.
ਹੇ ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ! ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਡੋਲਣਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ।
ਅਬ ਤਉ ਜਰੇ ਮਰੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਲੀਨੋ ਹਾਥਿ ਸੰਧਉਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ab ta-o jaray maray siDh paa-ee-ai leeno haath sanDh-uraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Just as a woman who accepts Sanhaura (challenge) has to die by burning herself on the pyre of her husband, similarly, O’ my mind, once you have decided to be a true devotee, stop wavering and do not let vices overpower you. ||1||Pause||
(ਜਿਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਧੂਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਲੀਏਰ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਧੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਰਾਤਬਾ) ਮਿਲੇਗਾ, ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਡੋਲਣਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਾਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਿਭੇਗੀ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਲੀਨੇ ਇਆ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਿਗੂਤਾ ॥
kaam kroDh maa-i-aa kay leenay i-aa biDh jagat bigootaa.
Some are lured by lust, some by anger and others by Maya, in this way the entire world is being ruined.
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਨੇ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੇ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੰਗ ਨੇ-ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਸਗਲ ਊਚ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੭॥੬੮॥
kahi Kabir raajaa raam na chhoda-o sagal ooch tay oochaa. ||2||2||17||68||
Kabir says, I wouldn’t forsake the sovereign God, Who is highest of the high. ||2||2||17||68||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਸਾਰਾਂ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੭॥੬੮॥

ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਰੈ ਊਪਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
furmaan tayraa sirai oopar fir na karat beechaar.
O’ God, Your command is absolute for me and I do not question it.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਂਹ-ਨੁੱਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਤੁਹੀ ਦਰੀਆ ਤੁਹੀ ਕਰੀਆ ਤੁਝੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
tuhee daree-aa tuhee karee-aa tujhai tay nistaar. ||1||
You are the river and You are the boatman also; it is by Your grace that I will be ferried across this worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ, ਮਲਾਹ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਬੰਦੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਇਕਤੀਆਰ ॥
banday bandagee iktee-aar.
O’ human being, embrace God’s devotional worship,
ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ,
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰੋਸੁ ਧਰਉ ਕਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saahib ros Dhara-o ke pi-aar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
whether God is angry with you or in love with you. ||1||Pause||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-) ਮਾਲਕ ਚਾਹੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ) ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਫੂਲੁ ਜਈ ਹੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
naam tayraa aaDhaar mayraa ji-o fool ja-ee hai naar.
O’ God, just as water is essential for flowers, similarly Your Name is my support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਫੁੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ)।
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਲਾਮੁ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਜੀਆਇ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੨॥੧੮॥੬੯॥
kahi Kabir gulaam ghar kaa jee-aa-ay bhaavai maar. ||2||18||69||
Kabir says, O’ Master, I am Your servant; it is up to You whether You keep me or abandon me. ||2||18||69||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਚਾਕਰ ਹਾਂ, (ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੈ) ਚਾਹੇ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਰੱਖ ਚਾਹੇ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਹ ॥੨॥੧੮॥੬੯॥

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਨੰਦੁ ਬਹੁ ਥਾਕੋ ਰੇ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh jee-a jon meh bharmat nand baho thaako ray.
Wandering through millions of births, Nand (God father of lord Krishna) was totally exhausted,
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਨੰਦ ਬਹੁਤ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ,
ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੁ ਲੀਓ ਹੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਬਡੋ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਕੋ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
bhagat hayt avtaar lee-o hai bhaag bado bapuraa ko ray. ||1||
and according to preordained good destiny, Nand worshiped God because of which he was blessed with the opportunity to raise lord Krishna as his son. ||1||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ), ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ, ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਜਾਗੀ ॥੧॥
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੁ ਕਹਤ ਹਉ ਨੰਦ ਕੋ ਨੰਦਨੁ ਨੰਦ ਸੁ ਨੰਦਨੁ ਕਾ ਕੋ ਰੇ ॥
tumH jo kahat ha-o nand ko nandan nand so nandan kaa ko ray.
You say that (Krishna) was the son of Nand, but tell me whose son was Nand himself?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਣਿਆ, ਇਹ ਦੱਸੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਨੰਦ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ?
ਧਰਨਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਨੰਦੁ ਕਹਾ ਥੋ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dharan akaas daso dis naahee tab ih nand kahaa tho ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When there was no earth or sky and the ten directions, then where was this Nand, the father of lord krishna? ||1||Pause||
ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਸੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਨੰਦ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਓ ਆਖ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ) ਕਿਥੇ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
