ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਛਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰੁ ਹੋਰੁ ॥
gur puchh daykhi-aa naahee dar hor.
The Guru’s teaching has shown me that other than God, there is no real source of true peace.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਣੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
dukh sukh bhaanai tisai rajaa-ay.
People go through sorrow or peace as per God’s will.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੪॥
naanak neech kahai liv laa-ay. ||8||4||
Attuned to God, humble Nanak sings His praises. ||8||4||
ਅੰਞਾਣ-ਮਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੈ) ॥੮॥੪॥

Raag Gauree, First Guru:
ਦੂਜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਗਤ ਚਿਤ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
doojee maa-i-aa jagat chit vaas.
Maya and love of duality dwell in the consciousness of people of the world.
ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
kaam kroDh ahaNkaar binaas. ||1||
Lust, anger, arrogance etc destroy spiritual life. ||1||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਦੂਜਾ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥
doojaa ka-un kahaa nahee ko-ee.
Whom can I call the other, when there is no one else besides God?
ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ (ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਦੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh meh ayk niranjan so-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The same immaculate God is pervading all beings. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਆਖੈ ਦੋਇ ॥
doojee durmat aakhai do-ay.
It is the evil intellect that brings up the concept of duality.
ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੱਸਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਮਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
aavai jaa-ay mar doojaa ho-ay. ||2||
That is why one remains in the cycles of birth and death and keeps getting farther away from God. ||2||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਥ ਤੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਧਰਣਿ ਗਗਨ ਨਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਦੋਇ ॥
Dharan gagan nah daykh-a-u do-ay.
Besides God, I do not see any other power in the universe.
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ, (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਹਸਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ।
ਨਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਬਾਈ ਲੋਇ ॥੩॥
naaree purakh sabaa-ee lo-ay. ||3||
I see the same God in all men and women of the world. ||3||
ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਿਚ, ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਦੀਪਕ ਉਜਿਆਲਾ ॥
rav sas daykh-a-u deepak uji-aalaa.
I see His light in the sun, the moon and other heavenly lights.
ਮੈਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ) ਦੀਵਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੪॥
sarab nirantar pareetam baalaa. ||4||
Amongst all, is seen my ever youthful beloved God. ||4||
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਜਵਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirpaa mayraa chit laa-i-aa.
Bestowing mercy, the true Guru has attuned my mind to God,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਏਕੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
satgur mo ka-o ayk bujhaa-i-aa. ||5||
and he has made me understand the existence of the one God alone. ||5||
ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
ayk niranjan gurmukh jaataa.
The Guru’s follower who understands that the immaculate God pervades everywhere,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ, ਇਹ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
ਦੂਜਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੬॥
doojaa maar sabad pachhaataa. ||6||
comes to realize God by subduing duality through the Guru’s word. ||6||
ਉਹ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਖੇਵਾਂ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ) ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਏਕੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਈ ॥
ayko hukam vartai sabh lo-ee.
The Command of God prevails throughout the world.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
aykas tay sabh opat ho-ee. ||7||
The entire creation has evolved from God. ||7ll
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਰਾਹ ਦੋਵੈ ਖਸਮੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
raah dovai khasam ayko jaan.
The one Master controls both the ways of living; living entangled in Maya or living righteously.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਰਸਤੇ ਚੱਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (-ਗੁਰਮੁਖਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ)। ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਜਾਣ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੮॥
gur kai sabad hukam pachhaan. ||8||
Recognize the command of God, through the Guru’s word. ||8||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਪਛਾਣ ॥੮॥
ਸਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਵਰਨ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
sagal roop varan man maahee.
God pervades in all forms, shapes and hearts.
ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥੯॥੫॥
kaho naanak ayko saalaahee. ||9||5||
Nanak says, “I praise only that God”. ||9||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੯॥੫॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
ga-orhee mehlaa 1.
Raag Gauree, First Guru:
ਅਧਿਆਤਮ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਾਚਾ ॥
aDhi-aatam karam karay taa saachaa.
One who does deeds for spiritual uplift is a true yogi.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ (ਜੋਗੀ) ਹੈ।
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਾਚਾ ॥੧॥
mukat bhayd ki-aa jaanai kaachaa. ||1||
Without becoming perfect in spiritual endeavors, he is an immature yogi and cannot know the secret of liberation from vices. ||1||
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥
aisaa jogee jugat beechaarai.
Such a yogi understands the righteous way of life.
ਅਜੇਹਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ) ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
panch maar saach ur Dhaarai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Subduing the five passions, he enshrines the eternal God in his heart. |1||Pause|
ਉਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਸਾਵੈ ॥
jis kai antar saach vasaavai.
Only that person, in whose heart God enshrines His true Name,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
jog jugat kee keemat paavai. ||2||
realizes the worth of the way to unite with God. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਏਕੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਉਦਿਆਨੈ ॥
rav sas ayko garih udi-aanai.
He sees the same God in moon and the sun, home and the forest. (He beholds the same God in an angry or a tranquil person, in a householder and a recluse.)
ਤਪਸ਼, ਠੰਢ, ਘਰ, ਜੰਗਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ-ਸਮਾਨ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ, ਖਰ੍ਹਵਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਤੇ ਨਿੱਘਾ ਸਲੂਕ l ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਰਵਈਆ)
ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
karnee keerat karam samaanai. ||3||
Such a yogi praises God from his heart. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ (ਸਾਧਾਰਨ) ਕਰਮ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਏਕ ਸਬਦ ਇਕ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਗੈ ॥
ayk sabad ik bhikhi-aa maagai.
He begs from the Guru only the gift of divine word.
(ਦਰ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਣ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥੪॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan jugat sach jaagai. ||4||
In this way, his mind awakens to divine knowledge, meditation and the way to unite with the eternal God. ||4||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਰੂਪ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਭੈ ਰਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
bhai rach rahai na baahar jaa-ay.
He remains absorbed in revered fear for God and never gets out of it.
ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਾਹਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੫॥
keemat ka-un rahai liv laa-ay. ||5||
He remains attuned to God; who can estimate the worth of such a yogi? ||5||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਦਾ ਕੌਣ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੫॥
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
aapay maylay bharam chukaa-ay.
God unites such a yogi with the true Guru, who in turn dispels his doubt.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥
gur parsaad param pad paa-ay. ||6||
By the Guru’s grace such a person attains the supreme spiritual state. ||6||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
gur kee sayvaa sabad veechaar. ha-umai maaray karnee saar. ||7||
He subdues his ego, reflects on the Guru’s word and meditates on Naam. This is the sublime deed of a true yogi.
ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਜੋਗੀ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਣੀ ॥੭॥
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਰਾਣੁ ॥
jap tap sanjam paath puraan.
For a true yogi, all meditation, austerities and reading of Puranas (holy books),
ਉਸ ਜੋਗੀ ਦੇ ਜਪ, ਤਪ, ਸੰਜਮ ਤੇ ਪਾਠ, ਪੁਰਾਣ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੬॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਸ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਝਾਣਾ ॥੮॥੬॥

ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਸੀਲ ਸੰਤੋਖੰ ॥
khimaa gahee barat seel santokhaN.
A true yogi practices forgiveness, good moral conduct and contentment.
ਅਸਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਧੀਕੀ ਸਹਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਹਨ।
ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਨਾ ਜਮ ਦੋਖੰ ॥
rog na bi-aapai naa jam dokhaN.
No malady afflicts such a yogi and he is not bothered by the fear of death.
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਉਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਰੇਖੰ ॥੧॥
mukat bha-ay parabh roop na raykhaN. ||1||
Such yogis are liberated from the vices and becomes one with God who has no form or figure. ||1||
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਰੂਪ-ਰੇਖ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਜੋਗੀ ਕਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਡਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jogee ka-o kaisaa dar ho-ay.
How can a yogi have any kind of fear,
ਅਸਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰੂਖਿ ਬਿਰਖਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rookh birakh garihi baahar so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
when he beholds God everywhere in His creation. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੁੱਖ ਬਿਰਖ ਵਿਚ, ਘਰ ਵਿਚ, ਬਾਹਰ ਜੰਗਲ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
nirbha-o jogee niranjan Dhi-aavai.
The yogi meditates on the fearless and immaculate God.
ਯੋਗੀ ਡਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
an-din jaagai sach liv laavai.
As he remains attuned to the eternal God, so he is always awake and aware of the onslaught of Maya (worldly distractions).
ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
so jogee mayrai man bhaavai. ||2||
Such a yogi is pleasing to my mind. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਜੋਗੀ) ॥੨॥
ਕਾਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਗਨੀ ਜਾਰੇ ॥
kaal jaal barahm agnee jaaray.
Such a yogi burns the trap of death in the fire of divine knowledge.
ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਪਣੇ-ਅੰਦਰ-ਪਰਗਟ-ਹੋਏ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੇਜ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਰਾ ਮਰਣ ਗਤੁ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
jaraa maran gat garab nivaaray.
He dispels all ego and sheds the fear of old age and death.
ਉਸ ਜੋਗੀ ਦਾ ਬੁਢੇਪੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਪਿਤਰੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
aap tarai pitree nistaaray. ||3||
He swim across the world ocean of vices and save his generations as well. ||3||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
satgur sayvay so jogee ho-ay.
One who follows the teachings of the true Guru becomes a true yogi.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਜੋਗੀ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਰਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhai rach rahai so nirbha-o ho-ay.
One who remains immersed in the revered fear of God becomes fearless,
ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਤੇ) ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਡਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੈਸਾ ਸੇਵੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
jaisaa sayvai taiso ho-ay. ||4||
because one becomes similar to the one upon Whom he meditates. ||4||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਇਕ ਅਸੂਲ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
