ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਾਦਰਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
gaavai ko vaykhai haadraa hadoor.
Some sing God’s praises visualizing Him everywhere.
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ‘(ਨਹੀਂ, ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ), ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ,
ਕਥਨਾ ਕਥੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ॥
kathnaa kathee na aavai tot.
Many try to describe God’s virtues, but there is no end to His virtues.
ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤੋਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕੀ (ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਿਆ)l
ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਕਥੀ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ॥
kath kath kathee kotee kot kot.
Even though millions have tried to describe His virtues millions of times.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵਾਰੀ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ) ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
daydaa day laiday thak paahi.
The benefactor God keeps on giving, while those who receive grow weary of receiving.
ਦਾਤਾਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਸਭ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ) ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੁਗਾ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
jugaa jugantar khaahee khaahi.
All creatures have been consuming His gifts throughout the ages.
(ਸਭ ਜੀਵ) ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ (ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਖਾਂਦੇ ਚਲੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਰਾਹੁ ॥
hukmee hukam chalaa-ay raahu.
By His command, God, the great commander, is running the universe on a specific path.
ਹੁਕਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ) ਰਸਤਾ ਚਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੩॥
naanak vigsai vayparvaahu. ||3||
O’ Nanak, God is always carefree and blissful.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੈ l
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
saachaa saahib saach naa-ay bhaakhi-aa bhaa-o apaar.
God is eternal and so is His justice, His language is that of love and He is infinite.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
aakhahi mangahi dayhi dayhi daat karay daataar.
We beg of Him for more and more and the benelovent God keeps on giving.
ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ,'(ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਦੇਹ’। ਉਹ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
fayr ke agai rakhee-ai jit disai darbaar.
Then what should we offer Him so we can visualize His presence
ਫਿਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਭੇਟਾ ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖੀਏ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਦਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਏ?
ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
muhou ke bolan bolee-ai jit sun Dharay pi-aar.
What words can we speak to evoke His love?
ਅਸੀਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲੀਏ (ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੀਏ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੇ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
amrit vaylaa sach naa-o vadi-aa-ee veechaar.
In the ambrosial hours before dawn, recite the True Name, and contemplate His glorious virtues.
ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੀਏ।
ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
karmee aavai kaprhaa nadree mokh du-aar.
The human body is obtained through good deeds but the liberation from vices is attained through His grace.
ਚੰਗੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦੇਹ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਦਯਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥
naanak ayvai jaanee-ai sabh aapay sachiaar. ||4||
O’ Nanak, this way we realize that God is eternal, all pervading and is everything by Himself.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੋਂਦ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ
ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
thaapi-aa na jaa-ay keetaa na ho-ay.
He cannot be established (confined), He cannot be created.
ਨਾ ਉਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
aapay aap niranjan so-ay.
The immaculate God came into existence by Himself.
ਉਹ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jin sayvi-aa tin paa-i-aa maan.
One who remembered Him with loving devotion, received honor.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
naanak gaavee-ai gunee niDhaan.
O’ Nanak, let us sing the praises of God, the treasure of virtues.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਓ) ਅਸੀਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੀਏ।
ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ॥
gaavee-ai sunee-ai man rakhee-ai bhaa-o.
Let us sing and listen to His prasises, and ensherine His love in our heart.
(ਆਓ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ) ਗਾਵੀਏ ਤੇ ਸੁਣੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਟਿਕਾਈਏ।
ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
dukh parhar sukh ghar lai jaa-ay.
One who does this, dispels his sorrow and finds inner peace in his heart.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਆਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
gurmukh naadaN gurmukh vaydaN gurmukh rahi-aa samaa-ee.
Through the Guru’s we experience the divine word, through the Guru’s we obtain divine knowledge and through the Guru’s we realize that God is all pervading.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਪਰਤੀਤ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਈਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
gur eesar gur gorakh barmaa gur paarbatee maa-ee.
For us, the Guru himself is Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma and Parbati.
ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਗੋਰਖ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਮਾਈ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਆਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
jay ha-o jaanaa aakhaa naahee kahnaa kathan na jaa-ee.
Even if I realize God, I will not be able to describe Him because He cannot be described in words.
ਉਂਝ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ, ਭੀ ਲਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
guraa ik dayhi bujhaa-ee.
O’ my Guru, please bless me with this understanding that:
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸਮਝ ਦੇਹ,
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥
sabhnaa jee-aa kaa ik daataa so mai visar na jaa-ee. ||5||
I may never forget God, the only provider to all living beings.
ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਕ ਰੱਬ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਨਾ ਦਿਆਂ
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਰੀ ॥
tirath naavaa jay tis bhaavaa vin bhaanay ke naa-ay karee.
I will bathe at pilgrimage sites only if it pleases God; without pleasing God, what is the use of such ritualistic bathing?
ਮੈਂ ਤੀਰਥ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤਦ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਾਂ ਜੇ ਇਉਂ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ, ਪਰ ਜੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੀਰਥ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੀਹ ਖੱਟਾਂਗਾ?
ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਰਠਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵੇਖਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਈ ॥
jaytee sirath upaa-ee vaykhaa vin karmaa ke milai la-ee.
When I look at the entire world created by Him, (I realize that) nothing can be obtained without His blessing.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਜੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣੀ ॥
mat vich ratan javaahar maanik jay ik gur kee sikh sunee.
The mind becomes rich with precious divine knowledge when one listens to Guru’s teachings even once.
ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਤਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
guraa ik dayhi bujhaa-ee.
O’ my Guru, please bless me with this understanding that;
ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਦੇਹ
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੬॥
sabhnaa jee-aa kaa ik daataa so mai visar na jaa-ee. ||6||
I may never forget God, the only provider to all living beings.
ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਾ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ
ਜੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਆਰਜਾ ਹੋਰ ਦਸੂਣੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
jay jug chaaray aarjaa hor dasoonee ho-ay.
even if a person lives throughout the four ages, or even ten times more,
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਚਾਰ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਜੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਦਸ ਗੁਣੀ ਹੋਰ (ਉਮਰ) ਹੋ ਜਾਏ,
ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
navaa khanda vich jaanee-ai naal chalai sabh ko-ay.
and even if he is known throughout the world and is obeyed by everyone,
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੇ।
ਚੰਗਾ ਨਾਉ ਰਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਸੁ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਗਿ ਲੇਇ ॥
changa naa-o rakhaa-ay kai jas keerat jag lay-ay.
has a good reputation with praise and fame throughout the world,
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਾਮਵਰੀ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ,
ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤ ਵਾਤ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਕੇ ॥
jay tis nadar na aavee ta vaat na puchhai kay.
still no-one would care about that person without the grace of God.
ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਯਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਦ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ,
ਕੀਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇ ॥
keetaa andar keet kar dosee dos Dharay.
Such a person is considered very low, (like a lowly worm), and even the sinners will hold him in contempt.
ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਇਕ ਮਮੂਲੀ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸੀ ਵੀ ਦੋਸੀ ਥਾਪਣ ਗੇ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਣਵੰਤਿਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਦੇ ॥
naanak nirgun gun karay gunvanti-aa gun day.
O’ Nanak, God can bless even the unvirtuous persons with virtues, and can bestow more virtues on the virtuous.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਣੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਉਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਜਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇ ॥੭॥
tayhaa ko-ay na sujh-ee je tis gun ko-ay karay. ||7||
I cannot even imagine anyone other than God who can bestow virtues upon virtueless.
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਜੋ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥ ॥

By listening to God’s praises even ordinary persons obtain the status of Sidhas (yogis), Peers (Muslim religious guides), gods, and Naaths (the leaders of yogis).
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿੱਧਾਂ, ਪੀਰਾਂ, ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਧਰਤਿ ਧਵਲ ਆਕਾਸ ॥
suni-ai Dharat Dhaval aakaas.
By listening to Naam (one understands the mystery of) the earth, and the real bull (or force), which supports earth and the sky.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥
suni-ai deep lo-a paataal.
By listening to Naam, one understands that God is pervading in all the continents, worlds, and nether regions.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਝੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੀਪਾਂ, ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਪਾਤਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ l
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
suni-ai pohi na sakai kaal.
By listening to God’s praises, one is not afraid of death.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰਾ ਸਕਦੀ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
naanak bhagtaa sadaa vigaas.
O’ Nanak, His devotees are forever in joy and bliss.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੮॥
suni-ai dookh paap kaa naas. ||8||
Listening to God’s praises, all sorrows and sins are erased. ||8||
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਈਸਰੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਇੰਦੁ ॥
suni-ai eesar barmaa ind.
Listening to Naam, one obtains the godly qualities like that of Shiva, Brahma and Indra.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਿਵ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਤੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਪਦਵੀ ‘ਤੇ ਅੱਪੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣ ਮੰਦੁ ॥
suni-ai mukh saalaahan mand.
By listening to Naam, even the sinners get enlightened and start singing the praises of God.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੀ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਰੱਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੇਦ ॥
suni-ai jog jugat tan bhayd.
By listening to Naam, one starts understanding the secrets of uniting with God, and the secrets of the human body.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਭੇਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਵੇਦ ॥
suni-ai saasat simrit vayd.
By listening to the God’s Name, one attains spiritual knowledge described in the holy scriptures.
ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਉੱਚਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥

O’ Nanak, the devotees of God are forever in bliss.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
