ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh nirbha-o nirvair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhaN gur parsaad.
There is only one God whose Name is ‘of eternal existence’. He is the creator of the universe, all-pervading, without fear, without enmity, independent of time, beyond the cycle of birth and death and self revealed. He is realized by the Guru’s grace.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Raag Jaijaavantee,Ninth Guru:
ਰਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਇਹੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਹੈ ॥
raam simar raam simar ihai tayrai kaaj hai.
O’ brother, always lovingly remember God’s Name, because this alone would be of use to you in the end.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ! ਇਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਸੰਗੁ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੂ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
maa-i-aa ko sang ti-aag parabh joo kee saran laag.
Forsake the love of materialism and seek the refuge of God.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਜਗਤ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਝੂਠੋ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jagat sukh maan mithi-aa jhootho sabh saaj hai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Deem all the worldly pleasures as false, this entire display of the world is perishable. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝ! ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੁਪਨੇ ਜਿਉ ਧਨੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਪਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
supnay ji-o Dhan pachhaan kaahay par karat maan.
Consider this worldly wealth as something received in a dream, then for what you feel egotistically proud?
ਇਸ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਪਨੇ (ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ) ਵਾਂਗ ਸਮਝ, ਤੂੰ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਬਾਰੂ ਕੀ ਭੀਤਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
baaroo kee bheet jaisay basuDhaa ko raaj hai. ||1||
Even the Kingdom of the entire world is (short-lived) like a wall of sand. ||1||
(ਸਾਰੀ) ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ (ਭੀ) ਰੇਤ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜੈਹੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਗਾਤੁ ॥
naanak jan kahat baat binas jaihai tayro gaat.
Devotee Nanak tells you this thing that this body of yours would also perish.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ) ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਕਾਲੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਜਾਤੁ ਆਜੁ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥
chhin chhin kar ga-i-o kaal taisay jaat aaj hai. ||2||1||
Just as moment-by-moment, your yesterday (the past) has gone; similarly your today (present) is also passing away. ||2||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ) ਕੱਲ (ਦਾ ਦਿਨ) ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੀਤ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਅੱਜ (ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਭੀ) ਲੰਘਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

Raag Jaijaavantee,Ninth Guru:
ਰਾਮੁ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਭਜੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥
raam bhaj raam bhaj janam siraat hai.
O’ brother, always lovingly remember God; your life is slipping away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ! ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਉ ਕਹਾ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਸਮਝਤ ਨਹ ਕਿਉ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
kaha-o kahaa baar baar samjhat nah ki-o gavaar.
O’ fool, why am I telling you this again and again? why don’t you understand?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਮੈਂ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੀਹ ਆਖਾਂ? ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ?
ਬਿਨਸਤ ਨਹ ਲਗੈ ਬਾਰ ਓਰੇ ਸਮ ਗਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
binsat nah lagai baar oray sam gaat hai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
This body of yours is like a hail-stone which melts away in no time. ||1||Pause||
(ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਿਚ) ਗੜੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਗਲ ਭਰਮ ਡਾਰਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
sagal bharam daar deh gobind ko naam layhi.
O’ mortal, relinquish all your doubts and lovingly remember God’s Name,
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਅੰਤਿ ਬਾਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਇਹੈ ਏਕੁ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ant baar sang tayrai ihai ayk jaat hai. ||1||
because this alone (God’s Name) would accompany you in the end. ||1||
ਅੰਤਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਿਉ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੌ ਜਸੁ ਹੀਏ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
bikhi-aa bikh ji-o bisaar parabh kou jas hee-ay Dhaar.
Forsake the love for the poison like Maya and enshrine God’s praises in your heart.
ਮਾਇਆ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਹ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ!
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬਿਹਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥
naanak jan kahi pukaar a-osar bihaat hai. ||2||2||
Devotee Nanak is emphatically saying that this opportunity (human life to realize God) is passing by. ||2||2||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੂਕ ਕੂਕ ਕੇ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ) ਬੀਤਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥

Raag Jaijaavantee,Ninth Guru:
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਉਨ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
ray man ka-un gat ho-ay hai tayree.
O’ my mind, what would be your condition (in the end)?
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਸੋਚ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਹ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ?
ਇਹ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੋ ਤਉ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਕਾਨਿ ॥
ih jag meh raam naam so ta-o nahee suni-o kaan.
Because God’s Name is the only true companion in this world and you have not cared to listen to that at all.
ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਤੇਰਾ ਅਮਲ ਸਾਥੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਨਾਮ) ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਤਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bikhi-an si-o at lubhaan mat naahin fayree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You always remain extremely allured by sinful pursuits and have never turned your attention away from them. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੁਰਤ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਦੇ) ਪਰਤਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਾਨਸ ਕੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਲੀਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਨਹ ਨਿਮਖ ਕੀਨੁ ॥
maanas ko janam leen simran nah nimakh keen.
You received human life, but you have not remembered God even for an instant.
ਤੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ-ਜੀਵਨ (ਤਾਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ ਕਦੇ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਦਾਰਾ ਸੁਖ ਭਇਓ ਦੀਨੁ ਪਗਹੁ ਪਰੀ ਬੇਰੀ ॥੧॥
daaraa sukh bha-i-o deen pagahu paree bayree. ||1||
You have become subservient to the comforts provided by the woman as if your feet are chained in her love. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਬੇੜੀ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਜਿਉ ਜਗ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥
naanak jan kahi pukaar supnai ji-o jag pasaar.
Devotee Nanak loudly proclaims that the expanse of the world is like a dream.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਹ ਕਿਉ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਚੇਰੀ ॥੨॥੩॥
simrat nah ki-o muraar maa-i-aa jaa kee chayree. ||2||3||
Whose maid is even this Maya, why don’t you remember that God? ||2||3||
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੨॥੩॥

ਬੀਤ ਜੈਹੈ ਬੀਤ ਜੈਹੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਜੁ ਰੇ ॥
beet jaihai beet jaihai janam akaaj ray.
O’ brother, this life of yours is passing away in vain
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਨ (ਦਾ ਸਮਾ) ਅਸਫਲ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਮਝਤ ਨਹ ਰੇ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
nis din sun kai puraan samjhat nah ray ajaan.
O’ ignorant mortal, even after always listening to the teachings of the Puraanas (the scriptures), still you do not understand,
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਪੁਰਾਣ (ਆਦਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਭੀ) ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ,
ਕਾਲੁ ਤਉ ਪਹੂਚਿਓ ਆਨਿ ਕਹਾ ਜੈਹੈ ਭਾਜਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaal ta-o pahoochi-o aan kahaa jaihai bhaaj ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that the time of death has arrived; now where will you run? ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਮੌਤ (ਦਾ ਸਮਾ) ਤਾਂ (ਨੇੜੇ) ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੈ (ਦੱਸ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਭੱਜ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
