ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਉਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਬਉਰਾਇਆ ॥
dubiDhaa ba-uree man ba-uraa-i-aa.
The mind has gone crazy in the insanity of duality (love for materialism).
ਕਮਲੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਝੂਠੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
jhoothai laalach janam gavaa-i-aa.
Engrossed in the greed of perishable things, one has wasted his life.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਜ਼ਾਇਆ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
lapat rahee fun banDh na paa-i-aa.
This love for Maya so tightly clings to a person, that it cannot be restrained.
ਮਾਇਆ ਇਤਨੀ ਡਾਢੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਚੰਬੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
satgur raakhay naam drirh-aa-i-aa. ||1||
But the true Guru has saved those within whose heart he has firmly implanted God’s Name. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਰੈ ॥
naa man marai na maa-i-aa marai.
Neither the mind gets detached from the love for Maya, nor Maya goes out of the mind.
ਨਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਣੋਂ ਹਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾਣੋਂ ਹਟਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਭਉ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin kichh kee-aa so-ee jaanai sabad veechaar bha-o saagar tarai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God who has created this play of the world, knows how a person can escape from the love for Maya; however one who reflects on the Guru’s word, swims across the worldly ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਖੇਡ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਚ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਚਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
maa-i-aa sanch raajay ahaNkaaree.
The kings become proud and arrogant by amassing Maya, the worldly wealth and power.
ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
maa-i-aa saath na chalai pi-aaree.
but their beloved Maya does not accompany them after death.
ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
maa-i-aa mamtaa hai baho rangee.
The love for Maya is of many different kinds (wealth, power and family),
ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਣਾਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਛਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ),
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਸੰਗੀ ॥੨॥
bin naavai ko saath na sangee. ||2||
but except God’s Name, nothing else is one’s true companion (in the end). ||2||
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ, ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਪਰ ਮਨੁ ਤੈਸਾ ॥
ji-o man daykheh par man taisaa.
As people see their mind (think about themselves), they think that other’s mind is also like that.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਜੈਸੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਤੈਸੀ ਦਸਾ ॥
jaisee mansaa taisee dasaa.
One’s mind is conditioned according to one’s desires.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਉੱਠਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਜੈਸਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
jaisaa karam taisee liv laavai.
One’s mind is focused on deeds one does routinely.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੰਮ (ਨਿੱਤ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਬਣਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
satgur poochh sahj ghar paavai. ||3||
But one can attain the state of spiritual poise only by seeking and following the Guru’s teachings. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਰਾਗਿ ਨਾਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
raag naad man doojai bhaa-ay.
The entanglement in worldly pleasures leads one’s mind to the love of duality,
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਰਾਗ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
antar kapat mahaa dukh paa-ay.
evil desires well up within his mind and endures great agony.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੋਟ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਖੋਟ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
satgur bhaytai sojhee paa-ay.
But one who meets the true Guru and follows his teachings, attains spiritual understanding,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਾਹ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
sachai naam rahai liv laa-ay. ||4||
and then he remains focused on the eternal God’s Name. ||4||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
sachai sabad sach kamaavai.
One earns the true wealth of (remembering) God’s Name by following the Guru’s Divine word.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
sachee banee har gun gaavai.
He sings praises of God through the Divine word,
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਸਦਾ) ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਅਮਰ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
nij ghar vaas amar pad paavai.
his mind stays within (in God’s presence) and achieves a state of higher spiritual living,
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
taa dar saachai sobhaa paavai. ||5||
and only then he receives honor in the eternal God’s presence. ||5||
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur sayvaa bin bhagat na ho-ee.
God’s devotional worship cannot be performed without following the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਅਨੇਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
anayk jatan karai jay ko-ee.
even if one may make innumerable efforts,
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਲਏ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥
ha-umai mayraa sabday kho-ee.
If one eradicates egotism and selfishness through the Guru’s Divine word,
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਏ ,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੬॥
nirmal naam vasai man so-ee. ||6||
then God’s immaculate Name manifests in his mind. ||6||
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
is jag meh sabad karnee hai saar.
To live by the Guru’s Divine word is the most sublime deed in this world.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
bin sabdai hor moh gubaar.
Without the Guru’s word, everything else produces the darkness of emotional attachment (in one’s life).
ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਚਾਰ ਚੁਫੇਰੇ) ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਮੋਹ (-ਰੂਪ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
sabday naam rakhai ur Dhaar.
One who keeps God’s Name enshrined in the heart through the Guru’s word;
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਸਬਦੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੭॥
sabday gat mat mokh du-aar. ||7||
living by the Guru’s word, he attains sublime intellect, higher spiritual state and path to emancipation. ||7||
ਉਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
avar naahee kar daykhanhaaro.
O’ brother, there is no one else except God, who takes care of the creation after creating it.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਅਨੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥
saachaa aap anoop apaaro.
The eternal God Himself is of unparalleled beauty and of infinite virtues.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਊਤਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
raam naam ootam gat ho-ee.
The supreme spiritual state is attained by lovingly remembering God’s Name.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak khoj lahai jan ko-ee. ||8||1||
O’ Nanak, only a rare person seeks and realizes the eternal God. ||8||1||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥

Raag Prabhati,First Guru:
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi sagal jag chhaa-i-aa.
O’ brother, the love for Maya has influenced the people of the entire world.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮਣਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਾਮਿ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥
kaaman daykh kaam lobhaa-i-aa.
Somewhere the world is lured into lust by woman,
(ਕਿਤੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਤ ਕੰਚਨ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
sut kanchan si-o hayt vaDhaa-i-aa.
and at another place, it has multiplied its love for children and worldly wealth.
(ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਨ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਧਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh apnaa ik raam paraa-i-aa. ||1||
The people of the entire world deem everything as their own and consider God as a stranger. ||1||
(ਜਗਤ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਇਹ) ਓਪਰਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਉ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ॥
aisaa jaap japa-o japmaalee.
just as the beads of a rosary never end, similarly I continuously remember God’s virtues,
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਮਣਕਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ ਇਕ-ਤਾਰ (ਸਦਾ) ਅਜੇਹੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dukh sukh parhar bhagat niraalee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
forsaking thoughts of sorrows and pleasures I keep performing the most wondrous devotional worship of God. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੇਵਲ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਭਰੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gun niDhaan tayraa ant na paa-i-aa.
O’ God, the treasure of virtues, no one has ever found the limit of Your creation.
ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ।
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
saach sabad tujh maahi samaa-i-aa.
One who focuses on the divine word of Your praises, remains merged in You.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
aavaa ga-on tuDh aap rachaa-i-aa.
O’ God! You Yourself have created the cycle of birth and death.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੇਈ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਨ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
say-ee bhagat jin sach chit laa-i-aa. ||2||
Those who have focused their mind on Your eternal Name, are Your only true devotees. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ, ਤੇ) ਉਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan narhar nirbaanee.
Spiritual wisdom and way of focusing the mind on the detached God,
ਉਸ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਾਰੇ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
bin satgur bhaytay ko-ay na jaanee.
can’t be known without meeting (and following the teachings of) the true Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਸਗਲ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
sagal sarovar jot samaanee.
God’s divine light pervades all the beings
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਆਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
aanad roop vitahu kurbaanee. ||3||
and I am dedicated to that God, the embodiment of bliss. ||3||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਆਨੰਦ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ (ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
bhaa-o bhagat gurmatee paa-ay.
One who acquires loving devotional worship of God through the Guru’s teachings,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਿੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
ha-umai vichahu sabad jalaa-ay.
he burns egotism from within by following the Guru’s word.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
