ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਜਪਿ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
govid govid govid jap mukh oojlaa parDhaan.
By meditating on God’s Name, one is recognized and honored in His presence.
ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਤਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
naanak gur govind har jit mil har paa-i-aa naam. ||2||
O’ Nanak, the Guru is the embodiment of God, and God’s Name is realized upon meeting the Guru and by following his teaching. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ; ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕੋ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜੁਗ ਜੋਗੀਆ ॥
tooN aapay hee siDh saaDhiko too aapay hee jug jogee-aa.
O’ God! You Yourself are the adept, Yourself the seeker, and You Yourself are the true Yogi.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਪੁੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਰਸੀਅੜਾ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗੀਆ ॥
too aapay hee ras rasee-arhaa too aapay hee bhog bhogee-aa.
You Yourself are the enjoyer of worldly things, and You Yourself are the one who consumes them.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਰਸ ਚੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੀਆ ॥
too aapay aap varatdaa too aapay karahi so hogee-aa.
You Yourself are all-pervading and whatever You do comes to pass.
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੋੁ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਧਨੋ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੁਲਗ ਬੁਲੋਗੀਆ ॥
satsangat satgur Dhan Dhano Dhan Dhan Dhano jit mil har bulag bulogee-aa.
Blessed and praiseworthy is the holy congregation of the true Guru, joining which one can utter the praises of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਭਿ ਕਹਹੁ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਤ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਪ ਲਹੋਗੀਆ ॥੧॥
sabh kahhu mukhahu har har haray har har haray har bolat sabh paap lahogee-aa. ||1||
Everyone should lovingly utter God’s Name from their mouth, because by uttering God’s Name all sins are washed off. ||1||
ਸਾਰੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ) ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

Shalok, Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
har har har har naam hai gurmukh paavai ko-ay.
The chanting of God’s Name at all times is a gift which only a rare person receives by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਨਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥
ha-umai mamtaa naas ho-ay durmat kadhai Dho-ay.
One who receives this gift of reciting Naam, his ego and possessiveness are eradicated and he washes away the dirt of his evil intellect.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ (ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਧੋ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak an-din gun uchrai jin ka-o Dhur likhi-aa ho-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only those people always recite God’s praises who are so predestined based on their past deeds. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਧੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
har aapay aap da-i-aal har aapay karay so ho-ay.
God Himself is the source of compassion and whatever He Himself does, happens in the world.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
har aapay aap varatdaa har jayvad avar na ko-ay.
God Himself is all pervading and there is no one as great as Him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo har parabh bhaavai so thee-ai jo har parabh karay so ho-ay.
Whatever pleases God happens and whatever God does, comes to pass.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
keemat kinai na paa-ee-aa bay-ant parabhoo har so-ay.
No one has ever been able to estimate the worth of His virtues because the Master-God is limitless.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak gurmukh har salaahi-aa tan man seetal ho-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, one who has praised God by following the Guru’s teachings, his body and mind have become calm. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਸਭ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨਾ ਤੂ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰੰਗਨਾ ॥
sabh jot tayree jagjeevanaa too ghat ghat har rang rangnaa.
O’ God, the life of the world, Your light is shining everywhere; You are present in every heart and You imbue everybody with Your love.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਨੂਰ (ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ), ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਰੰਗਣ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਭਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਤੂ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
sabh Dhi-aavahi tuDh mayray pareetamaa too sat sat purakh niranjanaa.
O’ my beloved-God, everybody lovingly remembers You: O’ God! You are eternal and in spite of being present in all, You are immaculate.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ (ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਿਖਾਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਸਭ ਮੰਗ ਮੰਗਨਾ ॥
k daataa sabh jagat bhikhaaree-aa har jaacheh sabh mang mangnaa.
O’ God! You are the only one benefactor and the entire world is the beggar, and all beings beg everything from You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ) ਮੰਗਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹਰੇਕ ਮੰਗ (ਜੀਵ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਤੂਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਚੰਗ ਚੰਗਨਾ ॥
sayvak thaakur sabh toohai toohai gurmatee har chang changnaa.
O’ God, You Yourself are the servant and the Master; through the Guru’s teaching, You seem the most lovable and pleasing.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਭਿ ਕਹਹੁ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਰਿਖੀਕੇਸੁ ਹਰੇ ਰਿਖੀਕੇਸੁ ਹਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਭ ਫਲ ਫਲਨਾ ॥੨॥
sabh kahhu mukhahu rikheekays haray rikheekays haray jit paavahi sabh fal falnaa. ||2||
Everybody should continuously recite the Name of God, the master of all human faculties, and from whom all beings receive the fruits of their desires. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੋ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
har har naam Dhi-aa-ay man har dargeh paavahi maan.
O’ my mind, always lovingly remember God’s Name, You shall be honored in God’s presence.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ।
ਜੋ ਇਛਹਿ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਲਗੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
jo ichheh so fal paa-isee gur sabdee lagai Dhi-aan.
When the mind gets focused on God through the Guru’s word, then You will receive whatever you have desired.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੰਗੇਂਗਾ ਉਹੀ ਫਲ (ਉਹ) ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੁੜ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
kilvikh paap sabh katee-ah ha-umai chukai gumaan.
One whose mind is focused on God, all his sins, ego and self-conceit vanish.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
gurmukh kamal vigsi-aa sabh aatam barahm pachhaan.
By following the Guru’s teachings, the lotus of one’s heart blossoms, and he becomes able to recognize God in every person.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਜੀਅ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਛਾਨਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
har har kirpaa Dhaar parabh jan naanak jap har naam. ||1||
O’ God, bestow mercy on devotee Nanak so that he may keep remembering Your Name. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥

Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
har har naam pavit hai naam japat dukh jaa-ay.
God’s Name is immaculate and one’s sorrow goes away by remembering it with adoration.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁੱਚਾ ਬਨਾਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa tin man vasi-aa aa-ay.
but God manifests in the minds of those, in whose destiny it is so written.
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ) ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਤਿਨ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
satgur kai bhaanai jo chalai tin daalad dukh leh jaa-ay.
Those who live by the true Guru’s will, all their sorrow and destitution goes away.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਿੱਦ੍ਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਜਨ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥
aapnai bhaanai kinai na paa-i-o jan vaykhhu man patee-aa-ay.
But no one has ever realized God by living according to his own will; check that out and satisfy your mind.
ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸਨ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
jan naanak daasan daas hai jo satgur laagay paa-ay. ||2||
Devotee Nanak is the servant of those devotees who humbly bow to the true Guru and follow his teachings. ||2||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
