Raag Saarang, Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
har har amrit naam dayh pi-aaray.
O’ my beloved Guru, bless me with God’s ambrosial Name.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।
ਜਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin oopar gurmukh man maani-aa tin kay kaaj savaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru accomplishes all the tasks of those on whom his mind is appeased. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਜਨ ਦੀਨ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
jo jan deen bha-ay gur aagai tin kay dookh nivaaray.
The Guru eradicates all the sufferings of those who humbly surrender themselves to him.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਗੁਰੂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
an-din bhagat karahi gur aagai gur kai sabad savaaray. ||1||
They always perform devotional worship of God by following the Guru’s teachings and their life is embellished through the Guru’s word. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਰਸੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
hirdai naam amrit ras rasnaa ras gaavahi ras beechaaray.
Those who enshrine God’s ambrosial Name in their hearts, sing His praises with their tongue and reflect on the essence of Naam,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਓਇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੨॥
gur parsaad amrit ras cheenHi-aa o-ay paavahi mokh du-aaray. ||2||
through the Guru’s grace, they understand the the essence of God’s ambrosial Name and find the door to emancipation. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਚਲੁ ਅਚਲਾ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥
satgur purakh achal achlaa mat jis darirh-taa naam aDhaaray.
The true Guru whose mind is steady, whose intellect is unwavering against the vices and who steadfastly leans on the support of God’s Name;
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪੁਰਖ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਅਹਿੱਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਉ ਦੇਵਉ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
tis aagai jee-o dayva-o apunaa ha-o satgur kai balihaaray. ||3||
I surrender my life to him, and I am always dedicated to that true Guru. ||3||
ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਾਗੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਗੁਬਾਰੇ ॥
manmukh bharam doojai bhaa-ay laagay antar agi-aan gubaaray.
Deluded by doubt, the self-willed people remain engrossed in duality and the darkness of spiritual ignorance prevails within them.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
satgur daataa nadar na aavai naa urvaar na paaray. ||4||
The true Guru, the benefactor of Naam, is not visible to them, they cannot reach either shore of the world-ocean of vices. ||4||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਨਾਹ ਉਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ (ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੪॥
ਸਰਬੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sarbay ghat ghat ravi-aa su-aamee sarab kalaa kal Dhaaray.
The Master-God pervades everywhere and every heart, He is all-powerful and is exercising His power.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹਤ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੫॥੩॥
naanak daasan daas kahat hai kar kirpaa layho ubaaray. ||5||3||
Nanak, the servant of God’s devotees says: O’ God, bestow mercy and rescue me from this worldly ocean of vices. ||5||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਵੋ॥੫॥੩॥
ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Raag Saarang, Fourth Guru:
ਗੋਬਿਦ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
gobid kee aisee kaar kamaa-ay.
O’ brother, perform the deed of remembering God in such a way,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੋਬਿਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo kichh karay so sat kar maanhu gurmukh naam rahhu liv laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that whatever He does, consider it as right and remain focused on God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੋਬਿਦ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਅਵਰ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥
gobid pareet lagee at meethee avar visar sabh jaa-ay.
The person to whom God’s love becomes extremely pleasing, he forsakes all other worldly loves,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
an-din rahas bha-i-aa man maani-aa jotee jot milaa-ay. ||1||
he always abides in spiritual bliss, his mind becomes appeased with God’s grace and his light (soul) remains merged into the Divine light. ||1||
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਬ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
jab gun gaa-ay tab hee man tariptai saaNt vasai man aa-ay.
When one sings God’s praises, only then the mind gets satiated from the hunger for materialism and peace comes to abide in the mind.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਤਬ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur kirpaal bha-ay tab paa-i-aa har charnee chit laa-ay. ||2||
When the Guru becomes merciful, only then one focuses one’s mind on God’s Name and realizes Him. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਤਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
mat pargaas bha-ee har Dhi-aa-i-aa gi-aan tat liv laa-ay.
The one who focused his mind on the essence of Divine wisdom and lovingly remembered God, his intellect got enlightened,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਚਮਕ ਉਠੀ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥੩॥
antar jot pargatee man maani-aa har sahj samaaDh lagaa-ay. ||3||
the Divine light manifested within, his mind got appeased with God and in a state of spiritual poise he remains absorbed in deep trance. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਗਿਆ; ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਈ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਪਟੁ ਨਿਤ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥
hirdai kapat nit kapat kamaaveh mukhahu har har sunaa-ay.
Those who have deceit in their minds, they simply recite God’s Name with their mouth but always keep practicing deceit.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੀ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਿਰਾ) ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਤੁਹ ਕੂਟੈ ਦੁਖ ਖਾਇ ॥੪॥
antar lobh mahaa gubaaraa tuh kootai dukh khaa-ay. ||4||
Within them is greed and pitch darkness of ignorance; their effort of reciting Naam is just like pounding husk and enduring pain without any gain. ||4||
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਨਿਰੇ ਤੋਹ ਹੀ ਕੁੱਟਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੋਹ ਕੁੱਟਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੇਚਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਜਬ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚਾ ਲਾਇ ॥
jab suparsan bha-ay parabh mayray gurmukh parchaa laa-ay.
When my God becomes extremely pleased with someone, then that person follows the Guru’s teachings and develops love for God.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਬੜੇ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥੪॥
naanak naam niranjan paa-i-aa naam japat sukh paa-ay. ||5||4||
O’ Nanak, then that person is blessed with God’s immaculate Name and he attains inner peace by remembering God with adoration. ||5||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੪॥

Raag Saarang, Fourth Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
mayraa man raam naam man maanee.
My mind is appeased with God’s Name.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਖਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

(ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਵਹੁ ਜਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਨ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥
deen da-i-aal hovhu jan oopar jan dayvhu akath kahaanee.
O’ God be kind upon me, Your humble devotee, and bless me with the gift of singing Your indescribable praises.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਂ ਗਰੀਬ ਸੇਵਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੋ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਵੋ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
sant janaa mil har ras paa-i-aa har man tan meeth lagaanee. ||1||
God becomes pleasing to the mind of that person who has attained the elixir of His Name by remaining in the company of saintly persons. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
har kai rang ratay bairaagee jinH gurmat naam pachhaanee.
Those who have realized God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings, are imbued with His love and have become detached from worldly attachments.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪੁਰਖੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਚੂਕੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
purkhai purakh mili-aa sukh paa-i-aa sabh chookee aavan jaanee. ||2||
One who has realized the all pervading God, has attained inner peace and is freed from the cycle of birth and death. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਨੈਣੀ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨੀ ॥
nainee birahu daykhaa parabh su-aamee rasnaa naam vakhaanee.
O’ God, I wish that I may keep beholding You with my eyes, and I may keep reciting Your Name with my tongue.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
