ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭਜੁ ਅਚੁਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੩॥
saaDhsang bhaj achut su-aamee dargeh sobhaa paavnaa. ||3||
Contemplate on the imperishable God in company of the Guru, and become worthy of honor in God’s presence. ||3||
ਉਸ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਸਿਧਿ ॥
chaar padaarath asat dasaa siDh.
O’ brother, if you seek the four cardinal boons, (prosperity, righteousness, success, salvation), the eighteen miraculous powers,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਠਾਰਾਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ॥
naam niDhaan sahj sukh na-o niDh.
the treasure of Naam, poise, inner peace, all the treasures of wealth,
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਜੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਾਵਣਾ ॥੪॥
sarab kali-aan jay man meh chaaheh mil saaDhoo su-aamee raavnaa. ||4||
if you also wish for all the above pleasures, then lovingly remember the Master-God by following the Guru’s teachings. ||4||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੪॥
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
saasat simrit bayd vakhaanee.
Even the Shastras, the Simritis, and the Vedas have proclaimed,
ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੇ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ, ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੀਤੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
janam padaarath jeet paraanee.
that O’ mortal, try to achieve the real objective of precious human life.
ਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲਾ ਕਰ।
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਰਹਰੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵਣਾ ॥੫॥
kaam kroDh nindaa parharee-ai har rasnaa naanak gaavnaa. ||5||
O’ Nanak, we should eradicate our lust, anger and slander by singing God’s praises with our tongue. ||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਚਾਇਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਣੀ ਚਾਇਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
jis roop na raykh-i-aa kul nahee jaatee.
O’ my friends, God who has no form, features, lineage, or caste (social status),
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ (ਕੀਹ) ਰੂਪ, ਰੇਖ, ਕੁਲ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
pooran poor rahi-aa din raatee.
is always completely pervading everywhere.
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ|
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਸੋਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੬॥
jo jo japai so-ee vadbhaagee bahurh na jonee paavnaa. ||6||
Whoever devoutly worships God becomes very fortunate, and such a person does not go through reincarnations. ||6||
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੬॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jis no bisrai purakh biDhaataa.
O’ my friends, a person who forsakes the all pervading Creator,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਲਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਤਾਤਾ ॥
jaltaa firai rahai nit taataa.
wanders around burning in the fire of vices, and always remains in agony.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ (ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ) ਸੜਿਆ ਭੁੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣੈ ਕਉ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥੭॥
akirat-ghanai ka-o rakhai na ko-ee narak ghor meh paavnaa. ||7||
Nobody can protect such an ungrateful person, suffers through the worst agony as if he is thrown into the most horrible hell. ||7||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਪਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥
jee-o paraan tan Dhan jin saaji-aa.
O’ my friends, God who embellished us by giving us soul, life, body, and wealth,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ, ਧਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥
maat garabh meh raakh nivaaji-aa.
and mercifully preserved and nurtured us in the mother’s womb,
ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੜੀ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਤਿਸ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਅਨ ਰਾਤਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਸਿਰੈ ਨ ਲਾਵਣਾ ॥੮॥
tis si-o pareet chhaad an raataa kaahoo sirai na laavnaa. ||8||
forsaking his love for God, anyone who remains engrossed in the love for materialism, achieves no useful purpose in life. ||8||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਭੀ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ॥੮॥
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
Dhaar anoograhu su-aamee mayray.
O’ my Master-God, please bestow mercy upon us,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ) ਦਇਆ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖ,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਸਭਨ ਕੈ ਨੇਰੇ ॥
ghat ghat vaseh sabhan kai nayray.
You dwell in each and every heart and are near everybody.
ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹਾਥਿ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਕਛੂਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਣਾਇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਜਣਾਵਣਾ ॥੯॥
haath hamaarai kachhoo-ai naahee jis janaa-ihi tisai janaavanaa. ||9||
There is nothing under our control, that person alone knows it whom You bless this understanding. ||9||
ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jaa kai mastak Dhur likh paa-i-aa.
One who has been so preordained from the very beginning,
ਧੁਰ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
tis hee purakh na vi-aapai maa-i-aa.
only that person is not afflicted by the love for materialism.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਦੂਸਰ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੦॥
naanak daas sadaa sarnaa-ee doosar lavai na laavnaa. ||10||
O’ Nanak, God’s devotees always remain in His refuge and don’t consider anyone else equal to Him. ||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ॥੧੦॥
ਆਗਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਸਭਿ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
aagi-aa dookh sookh sabh keenay.
O, brother! God has created all the sorrows and peace by His command.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਰਲੈ ਹੀ ਚੀਨੇ ॥
amrit naam birlai hee cheenay.
Only a rare person has understood the ambrosial Name of God.
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੧॥
taa kee keemat kahan na jaa-ee jat kat ohee samaavnaa. ||11||
God is permeating everywhere, but His worth cannot be described. ||11||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ॥੧੧॥
ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਵਡ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
so-ee bhagat so-ee vad daataa.
God Himself is the devotee and Himself the great benefactor.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹੈ|
ਸੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
so-ee pooran purakh biDhaataa.
God Himself is pervading all and Himself is the creator.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਲ ਸਹਾਈ ਸੋਈ ਤੇਰਾ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੨॥
baal sahaa-ee so-ee tayraa jo tayrai man bhaavnaa. ||12||
O’ brother! God Himself is your friend from the very childhood, and is pleasing to your mind. ||12||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਾਲ-ਸਖਾਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਮਿਰਤੁ ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
mirat dookh sookh likh paa-ay.
O’ brother, God has pre-written death, sorrow and pleasure in our destiny.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਮੌਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਬਧਹਿ ਘਟਹਿ ਨ ਘਟਾਏ ॥
til nahee baDheh ghateh na ghataa-ay.
These cannot be increased or decreased even a little bit.
ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਵਧਾਇਆਂ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਵਧਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਘਟਾਇਆਂ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਘਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੋਈ ਹੋਇ ਜਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੩॥
so-ee ho-ay je kartay bhaavai kahi kai aap vanjaavanaa. ||13||
Only that happens, which is pleasing to the Creator, therefore to claim that we can do anything is to ruin ourselves. ||13||
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਆਖਣਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਕਾਢੇ ॥
anDh koop tay say-ee kaadhay.
O’ my friends, God pulls only those persons out of the deep dark pit of Maya,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਟੂਟੇ ਗਾਂਢੇ ॥
janam janam kay tootay gaaNdhay.
and reunites with Himself those separated from Him for many lifetimes,
ਤੇ, ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਟੁੱਟਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮੁੜ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਾ ॥੧੪॥
kirpaa Dhaar rakhay kar apunay mil saaDhoo gobind Dhi-aavanaa. ||14||
whom He makes His own by bestowing mercy; they meet the Guru, follow his teachings and lovingly remember Him, the Master of the universe. ||14||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੪॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
tayree keemat kahan na jaa-ee.
O’ God, Your worth cannot be described.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੁ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
achraj roop vadee vadi-aa-ee.
Wonderful is Your form and great is Your glory.
ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥੧੫॥੧॥੧੪॥੨੨॥੨੪॥੨॥੧੪॥੬੨॥
bhagat daan mangai jan tayraa naanak bal bal jaavnaa. ||15||1||14||22||24||2||14||62||
O’ Nanak! Your devotee begs from You the gift of Your devotional worship and is dedicated to You. ||15||1||14||22||24||2||14||62||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥੧॥੧੪॥੨੨॥੨੪॥੨॥੧੪॥੬੨॥

Raag Maaroo: Vaar: Third Guru:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Guru:
ਵਿਣੁ ਗਾਹਕ ਗੁਣੁ ਵੇਚੀਐ ਤਉ ਗੁਣੁ ਸਹਘੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
vin gaahak gun vaychee-ai ta-o gun sahgho jaa-ay.
If we sell virtues (valuables) to an uninterested customer, it gets sold cheap,(a good advice is not appreciated by someone not interested in it),
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗਾਹਕ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ( ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਵੇਚੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਣ ਸਸਤੇ-ਭਾ ਵਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ)।
ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਉ ਗੁਣੁ ਲਾਖ ਵਿਕਾਇ ॥
gun kaa gaahak jay milai ta-o gun laakh vikaa-ay.
but if the customer is looking for such virtue (valuable thing), it gets sold at thousands of times its value (good advice to an interested person goes far).
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦਾ ਗਾਹਕ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਮੁਲ ਕੱਢ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
