ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jug chaaray gur sabad pachhaataa.
Throughout the four ages, God has been realized through the Guru’s word.
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਦੀ ਆਈ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਨਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
gurmukh marai na janmai gurmukh gurmukh sabad samaahaa hay. ||10||
The Guru’s follower remains immersed in the divine word and does not fall in the cycle of birth and death. ||10||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥
gurmukh naam sabad saalaahay.
Through the divine word, a Guru’s follower praises the Name of God,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
agam agochar vayparvaahay.
who is unperceivable, incomprehensible, and carefree.
ਜੋ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਹੈ।
ਏਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
ayk naam jug chaar uDhaaray sabday naam visaahaa hay. ||11||
God’s Name alone has redeemed the beings throughout the four ages; the trade of Naam can be done only through the Guru’s word. ||11||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਲਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gurmukh saaNt sadaa sukh paa-ay.
A Guru’s follower always remains calm and enjoys inner peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਢ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gurmukh hirdai naam vasaa-ay.
A Guru’s follower enshrines Naam within his heart.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
gurmukh hovai so naam boojhai kaatay durmat faahaa hay. ||12||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, realizes God and cuts off noose of evil intellect. ||12||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh upjai saach samaavai.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, remains merged in that eternal God, from whom he has originated,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਾ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਨ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
naa mar jammai na joonee paavai.
he neither falls in the cycle of birth and death, nor he is cast into reincarnation.
ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਮਰਦਾ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੂਨੀਆ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲੈਦੇ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
gurmukh sadaa raheh rang raatay an-din laiday laahaa hay. ||13||
The Guru’s followers always remain imbued with the love of God, and they always earn the profit of remembering Him. ||13||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh bhagat soheh darbaaray.
The devotees who follow the Guru’s teachings look elegant in God’s presence.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sachee banee sabad savaaray.
Because they have been embellished with the Guru’s divine word of God’s praises.
ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
an-din gun gaavai din raatee sahj saytee ghar jaahaa hay. ||14||
One who always sings God’s praises, reaches his divine home (unites with God) in a state of spiritual poise. ||14||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
satgur pooraa sabad sunaa-ay.
The divine word of the perfect true Guru proclaims that,
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ)
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
an-din bhagat karahu liv laa-ay.
always remain lovingly attuned to devotional worship of God.
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਣ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
har gun gaavahi sad hee nirmal nirmal gun paatisaahaa hay. ||15||
Those who sing the praises of God are always immaculate, because they sing the immaculate praises of God, the sovereign king. ||15||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ॥੧੫॥
ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
gun kaa daataa sachaa so-ee.
The eternal God Himself is the benefactor of virtues.
ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gurmukh virlaa boojhai ko-ee.
But only a rare Guru’s follower understands this.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak jan naam salaahay bigsai so naam bayparvaahaa hay. ||16||2||11||
O’ Nanak, the devotee remains delighted by eulogizing Naam, because it is the Name of the carefree God. ||16||2||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੧॥
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
har jee-o sayvihu agam apaaraa.
Always lovingly remember dear God who is infinite and incomprehensible.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ।
ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
tis daa ant na paa-ee-ai paaraavaaraa.
The limits of His virtues and the beginning or the end of His creation cannot be known.
ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ) ਦਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਮਤਿ ਅਗਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
gur parsaad ravi-aa ghat antar tit ghat mat agaahaa hay. ||1||
By Guru’s grace, one who remembers God in his heart, within that person’s heart manifests the highest wisdom. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੜੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਮੱਤ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
sabh meh vartai ayko so-ee.
The same one God pervades all the beings,
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur parsaadee pargat ho-ee.
but He becomes manifest only through the Guru’s grace.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦੇਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
sabhnaa partipaal karay jagjeevan daydaa rijak sambaahaa hay. ||2||
God, the life of the world, nurtures all the beings, He provides and brings sustenance to all. ||2||
ਉਹ ਜਗਤ-ਦਾ-ਸਹਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥
poorai satgur boojh bujhaa-i-aa.
After himself understanding, the perfect true Guru has imparted this understanding to the world,
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪ) ਸਮਝ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
hukmay hee sabh jagat upaa-i-aa.
that by His command, God has created the entire universe.
ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
hukam mannay so-ee sukh paa-ay hukam sir saahaa paatisaahaa hay. ||3||
That person alone enjoys peace who obeys His command; all kings and emperors are under God’s command. ||3||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa satgur sabad apaaraa.
The true Guru is eternal and his teaching is superb.
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਭੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਦੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
tis dai sabad nistarai sansaaraa.
The entire world swims across the world-ocean of vices through his divine word.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਗਤ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਦੇਦਾ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
aapay kartaa kar kar vaykhai daydaa saas giraahaa hay. ||4||
(The Guru tells that) on His Own the Creator looks after the beings after creating them and blesses them breaths and sustenance. ||4||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
kot maDhay kiseh bujhaa-ay.
Out of millions, God makes a few realize Him;
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਥੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad ratay rang laa-ay.
imbued with the Guru’s word, they develop love for God.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
har saalaahahi sadaa sukh-daata har bakhsay bhagat salaahaa hay. ||5||
They always sing praises of God, the giver of peace, He blesses them with even more opportunities of devotional worship and singing His praises. ||5||
ਉਹ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ (ਹੋਰ) ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ॥
satgur sayveh say jan saachay.
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings, become righteous and spiritually stable.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅਡੋਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥
jo mar jameh kaachan kaachay.
But those who remain in the cycle of birth and death are spiritually most frail.
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
agam agochar vayparvaahaa bhagat vachhal athaahaa hay. ||6||
That infinite, incomprehensible, carefree and unfathomable God is the lover of devotional worship. ||6||
ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
satgur pooraa saach drirh-aa-ay.
One in whose heart the Perfect true Guru implants the eternal God’s Name,
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
sachai sabad sadaa gun gaa-ay.
that person always sings the praises of God through the Guru’s divine word.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
gundaataa vartai sabh antar sir sir likh-daa saahaa hay. ||7||
God, the benefactor of virtues, is pervading within all beings; God scribes each person’s time of departure from here. ||7||
ਗੁਣ-ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ (ਸਾਹਾ) ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
sadaa hadoor gurmukh jaapai.
The Guru’s follower always experiences God’s presence around him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥
sabday sayvai so jan Dharaapai.
One who performs devotional worship of God through the Guru’s divine word, remains satiated from worldly desires.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
an-din sayveh sachee banee sabad sachai omaahaa hay. ||8||
Those who always remember God through the Guru word, they always remain in spiritual bliss through the divine word of God’s praises. ||8||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
agi-aanee anDhaa baho karam drirh-aa-ay.
Blinded by the love for Maya, a spiritually ignorant person stresses upon many ritualistic deeds.
(ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ) ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ (ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਹੋਇਆ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਰਮਕਾਂਡਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
manhath karam fir jonee paa-ay.
He stubborn-mindedly performs these rituals, and is consigned to reincarnation.
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ (ਅਜਿਹੇ) ਕਰਮ (ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
