ਲਾਗੀ ਭੂਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਗੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਖਰੇ ॥੩॥
laagee bhookh maa-i-aa mag johai mukat padaarath mohi kharay. ||3||
Driven by greed for Maya, one keeps looking for ways to acquire it, and swayed by worldly attachments, loses sight of liberation from vices. ||3||
ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਹੀ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮੁਕਤਿ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਵ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਢੂਢਤ ਥਾਕਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
karan palaav karay nahee paavai it ut dhoodhat thaak paray.
All his life, he remains weeping and wailing for the sake of Maya but does not get enough, and gets exhausted looking for it in different places.
(ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ) ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਨ ਦੀ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਢੂੰਢ-ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਕੂੜ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੪॥
kaam kroDh ahaNkaar vi-aapay koorh kutamb si-o pareet karay. ||4||
Being afflicted with lust, anger, ego etc. he loves what is transitory and stays attached with his family. ||4||
ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਨੱਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੋਹ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਖਾਵੈ ਭੋਗੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਕਾਲ ਘਰੇ ॥
khaavai bhogai sun sun daykhai pahir dikhaavai kaal gharay.
He eats dainty dishes, enjoys worldly pleasures, hears everything, watches (beautiful things), and shows off his latest attire, while deteriorating spiritually.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵਿਸ਼ੇ) ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ,, (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨ ਕੇ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਟਰੇ ॥੫॥
bin gur sabad na aap pachhaanai bin har naam na kaal taray. ||5||
Deprived from the Guru’s word, he does not realize his inner self and without lovingly meditating on God’s Name, he cannot avoid spiritual decline. ||5||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਟਲਦੀ ॥੫॥
ਜੇਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਛੀਨਿ ਖਰੇ ॥
jaytaa moh ha-umai kar bhoolay mayree mayree kartay chheen kharay.
The more one goes astray from righteous living due to attachment and ego, and the more he indulges in the practice of self-conceit, the more he loses out.
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ‘ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ)’ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਇਹ ਸਬ ਕੁਝ ਖੋਹ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਹਸੈ ਸਹਸਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਧੂਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੬॥
tan Dhan binsai sahsai sahsaa fir pachhutaavai mukh Dhoor paray. ||6||
Ultimately when his body and wealth, for which he lives in so much anxiety, are gone, and then he regrets, when he is disgraced. ||6||
ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਧਨ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਹਿਮ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖਿਸਿਆ ਕਫੁ ਕੰਠੁ ਬਿਰੂਧੋ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਢਰੇ ॥
biraDh bha-i-aa joban tan khisi-aa kaf kanth birooDho nainhu neer dharay.
When he becomes old, youth passes away, body wears off, his throat is choked by phlegm and his eyes remain watering,
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਵਾਨੀ ਖਿਸਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਘ ਬਲਗ਼ਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੁਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਚਰਣ ਰਹੇ ਕਰ ਕੰਪਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰੇ ॥੭॥
charan rahay kar kampan laagay saakat raam na ridai haray. ||7||
his feet stop functioning, and his hands start trembling, even then the faithless cynic does not enshrine God in his mind. ||7||
ਪੈਰ ਤੁਰਨੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੱਥ ਕੰਬਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ॥੭॥
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਈ ਕਾਲੀ ਹੂ ਧਉਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਖਿਓ ਘਰੇ ॥
surat ga-ee kaalee hoo Dha-ulay kisai na bhaavai rakhi-o gharay.
(On getting old,) he loses his senses, his black hair turns grey and nobody likes to keep him at home.
(ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ) ਅਕਲ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ, ਕੇਸ ਕਾਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਐਸੇ ਦੋਖ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਰੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਖਰੇ ॥੮॥
bisrat naam aisay dokh laageh jam maar samaaray narak kharay. ||8||
Forsaking the Name of God, he is stuck with such stigmas that the demon of deathpunishes and takes him to hell. ||8||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਤੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਭੈੜ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੋ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇ ॥
poorab janam ko laykh na mit-ee janam marai kaa ka-o dos Dharay.
The destiny based on past deeds cannot be erased; whom can one blame for his continuous suffering in the rounds of birth and death?
ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਿਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ ਦੇਵੇ?
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਾਦਿ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰੇ ॥੯॥
bin gur baad jeevan hor marnaa bin gur sabdai janam jaray. ||9||
Without following the Guru’s teachings, one’s life goes waste; without reflecting on the Guru’s word, one experiences spiritual decline. ||9||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰ ਭਏ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਫੋਕਟ ਕਰਮ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ॥
khusee khu-aar bha-ay ras bhogan fokat karam vikaar karay.
One is ruined by enjoyment of relishes, indulgement in worldly pleasures and empty rituals.
ਜੀਵ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਣਨ ਵਿਚ, ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਿਚ, ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਫੋਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਖੋਇਓ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਪਰੇ ॥੧੦॥
naam bisaar lobh mool kho-i-o sir Dharam raa-ay kaa dand paray. ||10||
By forgetting God’s Name and attaching to greed, one wastes his wealth of allotted breaths and suffers in the end as if the blow of the judge righteousness falls upon his head. ||10||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮੂਲ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
gurmukh raam naam gun gaavahi jaa ka-o har parabh nadar karay.
The followers of the Guru’s teachings on whom the Almighty casts His glance of grace, sing praises of God’s Name,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਹਰੇ ॥੧੧॥
tay nirmal purakh aprampar pooray tay jag meh gur govind haray. ||11||
they become immaculate in this world by meditating on the all pervading God who is infinite, supreme and perfect. ||11||
ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸਮਾਰਹੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇ ॥
har simrahu gur bachan samaarahu sangat har jan bhaa-o karay.
O’ my friend, in the company of saintly persons, lovingly remember God and enshrine the Guru’s words in your heart.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖੋ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਹਰੇ ॥੧੨॥੮॥
har jan gur parDhaan du-aarai naanak tin jan kee rayn haray. ||12||8||
The Guru holds the highest position in the presence of God. O’ Nanak, pray to God and beg for the dust of the feet of those devotees. ||12||8||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ-) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਦੇਹ ॥੧੨॥੮॥
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

There is one God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਆਵਉ ਵੰਞਉ ਡੁੰਮਣੀ ਕਿਤੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇਉ ॥
aava-o vanja-o dummnee kitee mitar karay-o.
O’ God, I being separated from You because of my duality, staying in the cycle of birth and death, I make many friends,
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਡੱਡੋਲਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ (ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਧਰਵਾਸ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਢੋਈ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਵਾਢੀ ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰੇਉ ॥੧॥
saa Dhan dho-ee na lahai vaadhee ki-o Dheeray-o. ||1||
but how can I be happy, when I am separated from You? The soul-bride who is separated from You, cannot find any support anywhere else.
ਪਰ ਜਦ ਤਕ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧਰਵਾਸ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਆਵੇ? (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ) ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਸਰਾ ਲੱਭ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਮੈਡਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਆਪਨੜੇ ਪਿਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
maidaa man rataa aapnarhay pir naal.
(O’ my friend,) my mind is imbued with the love of my husband-God,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਕੀਤੀ ਹਿਕ ਭੋਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ha-o ghol ghumaa-ee khannee-ai keetee hik bhoree nadar nihaal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
With His glance of grace, if He beholds me even for an instant, I would sacrifice myself bit by bit for Him. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮਾ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ) ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ, ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਡੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਉ ॥
pay-ee-arhai dohaaganee saahurrhai ki-o jaa-o.
I, the abandoned soul- bride in this world, wonder how can I reunite with my Husband-God?
ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ?
ਮੈ ਗਲਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਮੁਠੜੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਝੂਰਿ ਮਰਾਉ ॥੨॥
mai gal a-ugan muth-rhee bin pir jhoor maraa-o. ||2||
I am full of vices and these vices have deceived me throughout my life; without the union with my Husband-God I am grieving and spiritually deteriorating. ||2||
ਔਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਗਲ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੀ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਦਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੁਖੀ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਹੇੜ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਸੰਮਲਾ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
pay-ee-arhai pir sammlaa saahurrhai ghar vaas.
While living in this world, if I cherish my beloved husband, God, then I would be accepted in His company.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ।
ਸੁਖਿ ਸਵੰਧਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
sukh savanDh sohaaganee pir paa-i-aa guntaas. ||3||
Those fortunate soul-brides pass their life in peace, who have been united with their beloved Husband-God, the treasure of virtues. ||3||
ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ) ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਸੌਂ ਕੇ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਲੇਫੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ਪਟ ਕੀ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਅੰਗਿ ਬਣਾਇ॥ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੁਤੀ ਡੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤਿਨ ਡੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੪॥
layf nihaalee pat kee kaaparh ang banaa-ay. pir mutee dohaaganee tin dukhee rain vihaa-ay. ||4||
The soul-brides, who have been deserted by their Husband-God, spend their life in misery even if they have all the worldly comforts. ||4||
(ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਜੇ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦਾ ਲੇਫ ਲੈਣ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦੀ ਤੁਲਾਈ ਲੈਣ, ਹੋਰ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਭੀ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਵਰਤਣ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੪॥
