ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਝੂਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
ham tum sang jhoothay sabh bolaa.
but all the talks about me and you to be together are false utterances.
ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਬੋਲ ਝੂਠ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਓ ॥
paa-ay thag-uree aap bhulaa-i-o.
People get astrayed by getting engrossed in the love for Maya, which also has been created by God Himself.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
naanak kirat na jaa-ay mitaa-i-o. ||2||
O’ Nanak the writ based on our past deeds cannot be erased. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕੱਠ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਭੂਤ ਅਰੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤਾ ॥ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਤ ਅਨੇਤਾ ॥
pas pankhee bhoot ar paraytaa. baho biDh jonee firat anaytaa.
One who remains engrossed in the love for Maya, ignorantly wanders around in many existences, such as beasts, birds, ghosts and evil spirits.
ਜੀਵ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਪੰਛੀ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਤਹ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jah jaano tah rahan na paavai.
The divine mansion, where one has really to go, he does not get to stay there,
ਜਿਸ ਅਸਲ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਟਿਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਥਾਨ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਉਠਿ ਉਠਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
thaan bihoon uth uth fir Dhaavai.
and without a permanent place in the divine mansion, he leaves and wanders around in various incarnations.
ਨਿਥਾਵਾਂ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥
man tan baasnaa bahut bisthaaraa.
In his mind and body is a great expanse of worldly allurements.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਸਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਮੂਠੋ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
ahaNmayv mootho baychaaraa.
Ego robs the spiritual life of this poor being.
ਹਉਮੈ ਇਸ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਦੋਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਜਾਈ ॥
anik dokh ar bahut sajaa-ee.
(For this reason), one commits many sins, and for which he gets severely punished,
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਐਬ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਭੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
taa kee keemat kahan na jaa-ee.
The extent of his punishments cannot be stated.
(ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੋਈ) ਕੀਮਤ ਦੱਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ .
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਤਹ ਮਾਤ ਨ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
parabh bisrat narak meh paa-i-aa. tah maat na banDh na meet na jaa-i-aa.
Forgetting God’s Name, such a person is severely punished as if he is in hell, where neither his mother, a relative, a friend, nor wife could help him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁੱਲਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਨਾਹ ਮਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਨਾਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ-(ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ)।
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jis ka-o hot kirpaal su-aamee.
O’ my friend, one on whom the Master-God bestows His mercy:
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥
so jan naanak paargaraamee. ||3||
O’ Nanak, that person crosses over the world-ocean of vices. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
bharmat bharmat parabh sarnee aa-i-aa.
After getting exhausted in myriad of incarnations, one comes to the refuge of God,
ਜੀਵ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
deenaa naath jagat pit maa-i-aa.
who is the Master of the oppressed, the father and the mother of all beings of the world.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਂ-ਪਿਉ ਹੈ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਬਿਦਾਰਣ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਣ ॥
parabh da-i-aal dukh darad bidaaran. jis bhaavai tis hee nistaran.
He is merciful and dispeller of our pains and sufferings, but He emancipates only the one whom He is pleased with.
ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਗ਼ਮ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਲਫ਼ਿ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।।
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
anDh koop tay kaadhanhaaraa.
O’ my friend! God is capable of pulling a person out from the bottomless pit of materialism.
(ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਰੂਪ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਕੱਢਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥
paraym bhagat hovat nistaaraa.
But, by remembering God with loving devotion, a human being may be emancipated.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਰ-ਭਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਨਾ ਤਨੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
saaDh roop apnaa tan Dhaari-aa.
O’ my friends, God Himself has assumed the form of the Guru),
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਰੂਪ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ) ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਹਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ॥
mahaa agan tay aap ubaari-aa.
and He Himself has always rescued us from the great fire of worldly desires.
ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਅੱਗ ਤੋਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jap tap sanjam is tay kichh naahee.
The mortal be himself is unable to worship God and practice penance, or austerity.
ਇਸ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਜਪ ਤਪ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ) ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ (ਸੁੱਧ ਆਚਰਨ) ਦੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਹੀ ॥
aad ant parabh agam agaahee.
O’ God, You are incomprehensible, and unfathomable from the beginning to the end of the world.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਤ ਤਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਮਾਗੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
naam deh maagai daas tayraa.
Your devotee begs for Your Name, please bless him with Your Name.
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੯॥
har jeevan pad naanak parabh mayraa. ||4||3||19||
O’ Nanak, my God is the bestower of supreme spiritual state. ||4||3||19||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੯॥

Raag Maaroo, Fifth Guru:
ਕਤ ਕਉ ਡਹਕਾਵਹੁ ਲੋਗਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਦੀਨ ਕਿਰਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
kat ka-o dahkaavahu logaa mohan deen kirpaa-ee. ||1||
O’ my friends, why do you let your mind waver? The heart captivating God is all merciful to the oppressed. ||1||
ਹੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਡੁਲਾਂਦੇ ਹੋ? ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੂਰੋ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aisee jaan paa-ee. aran sooro gur daataa raakhai aap vadaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have learnt that the benevolent Divine Guru is the benefactor, a brave savior of those who seek His shelter, and He Himself saves their honor ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ) ਆਪ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥੨॥
bhagtaa kaa aagi-aakaaree sadaa sadaa sukh-daa-ee. ||2||
O’ my friends, God honors the prayers of His devotees, and is always the bestower of spiritual peace to them. ||2||
ਹੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਮੰਨਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
apnay ka-o kirpaa karee-ahu ik naam Dhi-aa-ee. ||3||
O’ God, bless me with Your mercy, that I may always remember Your Name with love and devotion. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੈਂ, ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਲੇ, ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਾਂ। ॥੩॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੀਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੨੦॥
naanak deen naam maagai dutee-aa bharam chukaa-ee. ||4||4||20||
O’ God, ridding himself of all other doubts, humble Nanak begs only for Your Name. ||4||4||20||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ (ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸਮਝਣ) ਦਾ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੨੦॥

Raag Maaroo, Fifth Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
mayraa thaakur at bhaaraa.
My God is exceedingly powerful,
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਮੋਹਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
mohi sayvak baychaaraa. ||1||
I am but His humble devotee. ||1||
ਮੈਂ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਕ) ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਮੋਹਨੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥
mohan laal mayraa pareetam man paraanaa.
O’ my God! You are the captivator of the hearts of every one; You are very dear to my mind and my life.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈਂ।
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mo ka-o dayh daanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Please bless me with the gift of Your Name. ||1-pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਦਾਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਗਲੇ ਮੈ ਦੇਖੇ ਜੋਈ ॥ ਬੀਜਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
saglay mai daykhay jo-ee. beeja-o avar na ko-ee. ||2||
I have examined all other options, but there is none other like God. ||2||
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ,ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੀਅਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਹੈ ॥ ਹੈ ਹੋਸੀ ਆਹੇ ॥੩॥
jee-an partipaal samaahai. hai hosee aahay. ||3||
God nurtures and takes care of all beings; He was always there, is here now and always will be here.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਭੀ ਹੈ, ਅਗਾਂਹ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹੇਗਾ, ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭੀ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
ਦਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
da-i-aa mohi keejai dayvaa.
O’ God, please bestow Your mercy upon me,
ਹੇ ਦੇਵ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਗੋ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੨੧॥
naanak laago sayvaa. ||4||5||21||
that Nanak may remain engaged in Your devotional worship. ||4||4||21||
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੪॥੫॥੨੧॥

patit uDhaaran taaran bal bal balay bal jaa-ee-ai.
God the redeemer of sinners ferries us across the world ocean of vices; we should always be dedicated to Him.
ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
aisaa ko-ee bhaytai sant jit har haray har Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||1||
If only I could meet a saint who would inspire me to meditate on God’s Name with love and devotion. ||1||
(ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕੋਈ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ॥੧॥
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
mo ka-o ko-ay na jaanat kahee-at daas tumaaraa.
O’ God, no one knows me, except that I am only called Your devotee.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਏਹਾ ਓਟ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayhaa ot aaDhaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Your Name is my only refuge and my mainstay. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਰਬ ਧਾਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਨ ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
sarab Dhaaran partipaaran ik bin-o deenaa.
O’ God, the supporter and sustainer of all beings, I am meek and this is my humble prayer.
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਜਲ ਹਮ ਮੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
tumree biDh tum hee jaanhu tum jal ham meenaa. ||2||
that You be like water and I be a fish in that water; You alone know Your way to make this happen. ||2||
ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੋਵੇਂ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੱਛੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ-ਇਹ) ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਸਥੀਰਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਹਿ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਛੈ ॥
pooran bistheeran su-aamee aahi aa-i-o paachhai.
O’ the perfect Master of the entire expanse of the universe, I have come to Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ
ਸਗਲੋ ਭੂ ਮੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਆਛੈ ॥੩॥
saglo bhoo mandal khandal parabh tum hee aachhai. ||3||
O’ God, You alone are pervading all the worlds, solar systems, galaxies and all of Your creations. ||3||
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਕਾਰ-ਧਰਤੀ, ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ (ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩॥
