ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਾਜੀ ॥
sach kamaavai so-ee kaajee.
O’ man of Allah, that person alone is a true Qazi, the Muslim judge, who lovingly remembers the eternal God.
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅੱਲਾ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ।
ਜੋ ਦਿਲੁ ਸੋਧੈ ਸੋਈ ਹਾਜੀ ॥
jo dil soDhai so-ee haajee.
He alone is a true Hajji, pilgrim to Mecca, who purifies his heart.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਹੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ।
ਸੋ ਮੁਲਾ ਮਲਊਨ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਧਰਾ ॥੬॥
so mulaa mala-oon nivaarai so darvays jis sifat Dharaa. ||6||
He is the Mullah, true Muslim priest, who removes evil thoughts from his mind, and he is true Dervish (saint) whose only support is God’s praise. ||6||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ॥੬॥
ਸਭੇ ਵਖਤ ਸਭੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਲਾ ॥ ਖਾਲਕੁ ਯਾਦਿ ਦਿਲੈ ਮਹਿ ਮਉਲਾ ॥
sabhay vakhat sabhay kar vaylaa. khaalak yaad dilai meh ma-ulaa.
O’ man of Allah, consider all the times as holy and remember Maula (God), and the Khalaq (the Creator) in your heart at all times of the day.
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਹਰ ਵਕਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖ਼ਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਤਸਬੀ ਯਾਦਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਸ ਮਰਦਨੁ ਸੁੰਨਤਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਬੰਧਾਨਿ ਬਰਾ ॥੭॥
tasbee yaad karahu das mardan sunat seel banDhaan baraa. ||7||
Let remembering God, who can help bring ten organs under control, be your Tasbi (rosary); consider good character and self-control as circumcision. ||7||
ਉਹ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਸਾਂ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,ਇਹ ਹੀ ਤਸਬੀ ਹੈ । ਚੰਗਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਅਤੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਤਕੜਾ ਪਰਹੇਜ਼ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਨਤਿ ਸਮਝ। ॥੭॥
ਦਿਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਸਭ ਫਿਲਹਾਲਾ ॥
dil meh jaanhu sabh filhaalaa.
O’ man of God, consider in your heart everything as short lived.
ਹੇ ਅੱਲਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਜਾਣ।
ਖਿਲਖਾਨਾ ਬਿਰਾਦਰ ਹਮੂ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
khilkhaanaa biraadar hamoo janjaalaa.
O’ brother, the love for family and household are all entanglements.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਟੱਬਰ-ਟੋਰ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ) ਸਭ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ (ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ) ਹੈ।
ਮੀਰ ਮਲਕ ਉਮਰੇ ਫਾਨਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਦਰਾ ॥੮॥
meer malak umray faanaa-i-aa ayk mukaam khudaa-ay daraa. ||8||
The chiefs, kings and nobles are perishable; only God’s abode is eternal. ||8||
ਸ਼ਾਹ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ, ਅਮੀਰ ਲੋਕ ਸਭ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਅਵਲਿ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਦੂਜੀ ਸਾਬੂਰੀ ॥
aval sifat doojee saabooree.
O’ man of God, let the praises of God be your first Namaaz (prayer) and contentment the second,
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵਕਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇਂ, ਜੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਦੂਜੀ ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਤੀਜੈ ਹਲੇਮੀ ਚਉਥੈ ਖੈਰੀ ॥
teejai halaymee cha-uthai khairee.
humility the third prayer and welfare of all as the fourth prayer.
ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਦੇ ਤੀਜੇ ਵਕਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੇਂ, ਜੇ ਚੌਥੇ ਵਕਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਮੰਗੇਂ,
ਪੰਜਵੈ ਪੰਜੇ ਇਕਤੁ ਮੁਕਾਮੈ ਏਹਿ ਪੰਜਿ ਵਖਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਪਰਪਰਾ ॥੯॥
punjvai panjay ikat mukaamai ayhi panj vakhat tayray aparparaa. ||9||
Let the control of five vices be your fifth prayer; this way, all your five prayer times will become most fruitful. ||9||
ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਨਮਾਜ਼, ਇਹ ਪੰਜ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੯॥
ਸਗਲੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਉਦੀਫਾ ॥
saglee jaan karahu ma-udeefaa.
O’ man of God, let Moudeefa, the continuous reading of the Koran, be the knowledge that God is present everywhere in the universe.
ਹੇ ਅੱਲਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਣ-ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਰੱਬੀ ਕਲਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਬਦ ਅਮਲ ਛੋਡਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਕੂਜਾ ॥
bad amal chhod karahu hath koojaa.
Let renunciation of evil deeds be the Kooja, the water-jug you carry.
ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਿਆਗ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚਲਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਲੋਟਾ ਬਣਾ।
ਖੁਦਾਇ ਏਕੁ ਬੁਝਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਬਾਂਗਾਂ ਬੁਰਗੂ ਬਰਖੁਰਦਾਰ ਖਰਾ ॥੧੦॥
khudaa-ay ayk bujh dayvhu baaNgaaN burgoo barkhurdaar kharaa. ||10||
Let this understanding, that there is only one God, be your Baang (call for prayer); to become the worthy child of God be the Burgoo (horn blowing). ||10||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਦਾ ਢੰਡੋਰਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਬਾਲ ਬਣਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿੰਗੀ ਬਜਾਉਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧੦॥
ਹਕੁ ਹਲਾਲੁ ਬਖੋਰਹੁ ਖਾਣਾ ॥
hak halaal bakhorahu khaanaa.
O’ man of God, let the food earned by honest means be your Halaal food.
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਹੱਕ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਦਾ (‘ਹਲਾਲ) ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਕਰ।
ਦਿਲ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਧੋਵਹੁ ਮੈਲਾਣਾ ॥
dil daree-aa-o Dhovahu mailaanaa.
Making your heart big like a river and wash off the dirt of vices from it.
ਦਰਿਆ ਵਾਂਗ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਧੋ।
ਪੀਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਭਿਸਤੀ ਸੋਈ ਅਜਰਾਈਲੁ ਨ ਦੋਜ ਠਰਾ ॥੧੧॥
peer pachhaanai bhistee so-ee ajraa-eel na doj tharaa. ||11||
One who understands the teachings of his Guru-prophet becomes worthy of Bahisht (heaven), Azraeel (demon) doesn’t make him suffer in hell. ||11||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪੀਰ (ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ) ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਦਾ ਹੱਕਦਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਟਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਿਰਦਾਰ ਅਉਰਤ ਯਕੀਨਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa kirdaar a-urat yakeenaa.
O’ man of God, the body through which the good or bad deeds are done, make it like the faithful wife,
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਔਰਤ (ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਬਣਾ,
ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਮਾਣਿ ਹਕੀਨਾ ॥
rang tamaasay maan hakeenaa.
and thus revel in the bliss of union with God.
ਤੇ ਹੱਕ ਦੇ (ਰੱਬੀ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਮਾਣ।
ਨਾਪਾਕ ਪਾਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹਦੀਸਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਸਿਰਾ ॥੧੨॥
naapaak paak kar hadoor hadeesaa saabat soorat dastaar siraa. ||12||
To purify the mind from the impurity of vices should be the Hadees, the holy book of muslim law); let intact body be the turban on your head. ||12||
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਰੱਬੀ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਰਹ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ। ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਦੇਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੀਸ ਦੀ ਪੱਗ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧੨॥
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੁ ਮੋਮ ਦਿਲਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
musalmaan mom dil hovai.
O’ man of God, a true Muslim is the one who is soft hearted like wax,
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! (ਅਸਲ) ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੋਮ ਵਰਗੇ ਨਰਮ ਦਿਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਦਿਲ ਤੇ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
antar kee mal dil tay Dhovai.
and washes away the dirt of vices from his heart.
ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਧੋ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਰੰਗ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨੇੜੈ ਜਿਉ ਕੁਸਮ ਪਾਟੁ ਘਿਉ ਪਾਕੁ ਹਰਾ ॥੧੩॥
dunee-aa rang na aavai nayrhai ji-o kusam paat ghi-o paak haraa. ||13||
He does not get close to false worldly pleasures, and remains pure like a flower, silk, clarified butter and deer-skin. ||13||
ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ, ਇਉਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਫੁੱਲ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਘਿਉ ਅਤੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਛਾਲਾ ॥੧੩॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਹਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
jaa ka-o mihar mihar miharvaanaa.
O’ man of God, a person who is blessed with the grace of the merciful God,
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ (ਮੌਲਾ) ਦੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸੋਈ ਮਰਦੁ ਮਰਦੁ ਮਰਦਾਨਾ ॥
so-ee marad marad mardaanaa.
proves to be truly a brave human being against the vices.
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਮਰਦ (ਸਾਬਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹੈ।
ਸੋਈ ਸੇਖੁ ਮਸਾਇਕੁ ਹਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਬੰਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਜਰਿ ਨਰਾ ॥੧੪॥
so-ee saykh masaa-ik haajee so bandaa jis najar naraa. ||14||
He alone is true sheikh (preacher), Masayak (head of sheikh), Hajji (the pilgrim), and God’s devotee, who is blessed with God’s gracious glance. ||14||
ਉਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲ) ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ ਮਸਾਇਕ ਤੇ ਹਾਜੀ, ਉਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲ) ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਾਦਰ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮਾ ॥
kudrat kaadar karan kareemaa.
O’ man of God, this nature is the creation of God and He is merciful.
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਾਦਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਬਨਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਅਥਾਹ ਰਹੀਮਾ ॥
sifat muhabat athaah raheemaa.
The praise and love of that merciful God is unfathomable.
ਰਹਿਮ-ਦਿਲ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ|
ਹਕੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਖੁਦਾਇਆ ਬੁਝਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਦਿ ਖਲਾਸ ਤਰਾ ॥੧੫॥੩॥੧੨॥
hak hukam sach khudaa-i-aa bujh naanak band khalaas taraa. ||15||3||12||
O’ Nanak! by understanding the command of the eternal God, one is released from worldly bonds and he swims across the world-ocean of vices. ||15||3||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥੩॥੧੨॥
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Maaroo, Fifth Guru:
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਭ ਊਚ ਬਿਰਾਜੇ ॥
paarbarahm sabh ooch biraajay.
O’ brother, highest of all is the status of the all-pervading God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ|
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
aapay thaap uthaapay saajay.
He Himself creates, destroys and recreates everything.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਰਿਓਂ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਬਾਲ ਕਾ ॥੧॥
parabh kee saran gahat sukh paa-ee-ai kichh bha-o na vi-aapai baal kaa. ||1||
By staying in God’s refuge, one receives inner peace and is not afflicted by the slightest fear of any kind. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਡਰ ਰਤਾ ਵੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਗਰਭ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ॥
garabh agan meh jineh ubaari-aa.
O’ brother, God who protected one in the fire of our mother’s womb,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ,
ਰਕਤ ਕਿਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਆ ॥
rakat kiram meh nahee sanghaari-aa.
did not let him get killed by the bacteria in the blood,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਿਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਰਨ ਨਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਅਪਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਮਾਲਕਾ ॥੨॥
apnaa simran day partipaali-aa oh sagal ghataa kaa maalkaa. ||2||
and nurtured him by blessing with His remembrance; He is the Master of all the beings. ||2||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਆਇਆ ॥
charan kamal sarnaa-ee aa-i-aa.
O’ brother, one who comes to the refuge of God’s immaculate Name,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
saaDhsang hai har jas gaa-i-aa.
and sings God’s praise in the holy congregation,
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਲ ਕਾ ॥੩॥
janam maran sabh dookh nivaaray jap har har bha-o nahee kaal kaa. ||3||
God eradicated all his misery of birth and death; he loses the fear of death by always meditating on God’s Name. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੰਮਣ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਸਮਰਥ ਅਕਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
samrath akath agochar dayvaa.
O’ my friends, God is all-powerful, beyond description, beyond the reach of our sense organs, and is divine light.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਸਹੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨੂਰ ਹੀ ਨੂਰ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
jee-a jant sabh taa kee sayvaa.
All the creatures and beings depend on His support.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਆ-ਜੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰੀ ਪਾਲਕਾ ॥੪॥
andaj jayraj saytaj ut-bhuj baho parkaaree paalkaa. ||4||
In so many ways, God nurtures all those born from eggs, womb, perspiration, and earth. ||4||
ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
tiseh paraapat ho-ay niDhaanaa.
O’ my friends, only that person is blessed with the treasure of Naam,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
raam naam ras antar maanaa.
who enjoys the elixir of God’s Name within his heart.
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਸਾਲਕਾ ॥੫॥
kar geh leenay anDh koop tay virlay kay-ee saalkaa. ||5||
Bestowing mercy, God pulls him from the bottomless pit of materialism, but very rare are such saintly persons. ||5||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ, ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥
