ਮਿਰਤ ਲੋਕ ਪਇਆਲ ਸਮੀਪਤ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਥਾਨੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਹੈ ਅਭਗਾ ॥੧੨॥
mirat lok pa-i-aal sameepat asthir thaan jis hai abhgaa. ||12||
God is pervading the creatures of the mortal world and the nether world; His abode is eternal which can never be destroyed. ||12||
ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ, ਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਟੁੱਟਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧੨॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ॥
patit paavan dukh bhai bhanjan.
God is the purifier of sinners and destroyer of fears and sorrows of beings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਹੈ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ॥
ahaNkaar nivaaran hai bhav khandan.
God is the dispeller of ego, and destroyer of the cycle of birth and death.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਖਿਤ ਦੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ਗੁਣੇ ਨ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਭਿਗਾ ॥੧੩॥
bhagtee tokhit deen kirpaalaa gunay na kit hee hai bhigaa. ||13||
The merciful God of the meek is pleased by devotional worship, and is not appeased by any other virtue. ||13||
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਅਛਲ ਅਡੋਲੋ ॥
nirankaar achhal adolo.
The formless God is undeceivable and unwavering.
ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ) ਉਹ ਡੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਮਉਲੋ ॥
jot saroopee sabh jag ma-ulo.
God is the divine light, which makes the entire world blossom.
ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਨੂਰ ਹੀ ਨੂਰ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੂਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਖਿੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪਹੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈਗਾ ॥੧੪॥
so milai jis aap milaa-ay aaphu ko-ay na paavaigaa. ||14||
Only that person unites with Him, whom God unites with Himself; no one can ever unite with Him by his own efforts. ||14||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
ਆਪੇ ਗੋਪੀ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਨਾ ॥
aapay gopee aapay kaanaa.
It was God Himself, who played the role of Gopis (the milkmaids), and He Himself was lord Krishna.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੋਪੀਆਂ ਸੀ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਸੀ।
ਆਪੇ ਗਊ ਚਰਾਵੈ ਬਾਨਾ ॥
aapay ga-oo charaavai baanaa.
God Himself was grazing cows in the forest.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗਊਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿੰਦ੍ਰਾਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਰਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਖਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧੫॥
aap upaaveh aap khapaaveh tuDh layp nahee ik til rangaa. ||15||
O’ God, You Yourself create everything and Yourself destroy, but You are not affected even a bit by these worldly pleasures. ||15||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਖ਼ੁਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਵਨ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥
ayk jeeh gun kavan bakhaanai.
O’ God, which of Your virtues can my one tongue describe?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੀ) ਇੱਕ ਜੀਭ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਸਹਸ ਫਨੀ ਸੇਖ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
sahas fanee saykh ant na jaanai.
Even the thousand-headed serpent does not know the limit of Your virtues.
ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਫਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ (ਭੀ) (ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਨਵਤਨ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਇਕੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਹਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧੬॥
navtan naam japai din raatee ik gun naahee parabh kahi sangaa. ||16||
This Mythical serpent always recites different new names of Yours, but still it cannot describe completely even one of Your virtues. ||16||
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਵੇਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੬॥
ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤ ਸਰਣਾਇਆ ॥
ot gahee jagat pit sarnaa-i-aa.
O’ Father of the world, I have come to You for support and refuge.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਭੈ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਦੁਤਰ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
bhai bha-i-aanak jamdoot dutar hai maa-i-aa.
Extremely terrifying are the demons of death, and it is very difficult to swim across the world-ocean of Maya, the materialism.
ਜਮਦੂਤ ਬੜੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਹਨ, ਬੜੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਮਾਇਆ (ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਇਛਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧੭॥
hohu kirpaal ichhaa kar raakho saaDh santan kai sang sangaa. ||17||
O’ God! if such be Your will, bestow mercy and protect me by keeping me in the holy congregation. ||17||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਹੁ, ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ॥੧੭॥
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥੇਨਾ ॥
daristimaan hai sagal mithaynaa.
All this visible expanse is perishable.
ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਸਭ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਇਕੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨਾ ॥
ik maaga-o daan gobid sant raynaa.
O’ God, the master of the universe! I ask for one benefaction, that I may receive the dust of the feet (humble service) of Your saints.
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਇਕ (ਇਹ) ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ (ਮਿਲੇ)।
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵਉ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈਗਾ ॥੧੮॥
mastak laa-ay param pad paava-o jis paraapat so paavaigaa. ||18||
I may achieve supreme spiritual status by applying the dust of the feet of saints to my forehead; but only that person gets it, who is destined to receive it. ||18||
ਇਹ ਧੂੜ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਾਂ। ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੮॥
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥
jin ka-o kirpaa karee sukh-daatay.
Those on whom that peace giving God bestows mercy,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ-ਬਖ਼ਖ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਲੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਪਰਾਤੇ ॥
tin saaDhoo charan lai ridai paraatay.
they enshrine the Guru’s immaculate teachings in their hearts.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਗਲ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਜੰਗਾ ॥੧੯॥
sagal naam niDhaan tin paa-i-aa anhad sabad man vaajangaa. ||19||
They receive the supreme treasure of Naam and they feel as if a nonstop melody of divine word keeps playing in their mind. ||19||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੯॥
ਕਿਰਤਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਥੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਹਬਾ ॥
kirtam naam kathay tayray jihbaa.
O’ God, our tongue recites Your names based on Your virtues,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜੀਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਮ (ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ) ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ॥
sat naam tayraa paraa poorbalaa.
but Your original Name is Satnaam, which means eternal.
ਪਰ ‘ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ’ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੂੰ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ‘ਹੋਂਦ’ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ)।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ॥੨੦॥
kaho naanak bhagat pa-ay sarnaa-ee dayh daras man rang lagaa. ||20||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! Your devotees have come to Your refuge, bless them with Your divine vision; their minds are filled with love for You. ||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!,ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੦॥।
ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
tayree gat mit toohai jaaneh.
O’ God, You alone know Your state and worth.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਮਤ ਨੂੰ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਥਹਿ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥
too aapay katheh tai aap vakaaneh.
You Yourself can describe and speak about Your state and worth.
ਆਪਣੀ ‘ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ’ ਤੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਦਾਸਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak daas daasan ko karee-ahu har bhaavai daasaa raakh sangaa. ||21||2||11||
O’ God, make Nanak the servant of Your devotees and if it so pleases You, keep him in the company of Your devotees. ||21||2||11||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ। ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੧੧॥

Raag Maaroo, Fifth Guru:
ਅਲਹ ਅਗਮ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਬੰਦੇ ॥
alah agam khudaa-ee banday.
O’ man of the inaccessible God, Allah,
ਹੇ ਅੱਲਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ!
ਛੋਡਿ ਖਿਆਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇ ਧੰਧੇ ॥
chhod khi-aal dunee-aa kay DhanDhay.
give up the thoughts of worldly entanglements.
(ਨਿਰੇ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, (ਨਿਰੇ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲੇ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ।
ਹੋਇ ਪੈ ਖਾਕ ਫਕੀਰ ਮੁਸਾਫਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ਕਬੂਲੁ ਦਰਾ ॥੧॥
ho-ay pai khaak fakeer musaafar ih darvays kabool daraa. ||1||
Seek the dust of the feet (humble service) of God’s devotees and live like a guest in the world; such a pious person is approved in God’s presence. ||1||
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਕੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਮੁਸਾਫ਼ਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੁ; ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਚੁ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਯਕੀਨ ਮੁਸਲਾ ॥
sach nivaaj yakeen muslaa.
O’ man of Allah! make truth as your Namaz (prayer), and belief in God as your Musalla (prayer-mat).
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਸਚ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਬਣਾ। ਰੱਬ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁਸੱਲਾ ।
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਹੁ ਆਸਾ ॥
mansaa maar nivaarihu aasaa.
Conquer and eradicate your worldly desires and let this be your walking stick.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਹ-ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਟਾ ਬਣਾ।
ਦੇਹ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਾਣਾ ਕਲਮ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਪਾਕੁ ਖਰਾ ॥੨॥
dayh maseet man ma-ulaanaa kalam khudaa-ee paak kharaa. ||2||
Let your body be the mosque, your mind the Maulana (priest) and being immaculate as your Kalama, the divine word. ||2||
ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਸੀਤ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ। ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾਈ ਕਲਮਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨॥
ਸਰਾ ਸਰੀਅਤਿ ਲੇ ਕੰਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
saraa saree-at lay kammaavahu.
O’ devotee of God, make meditating on Kalama, the divine word, as your Shara and Shariat (the Muslim code of conduct).
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! (ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਸ਼ਰਹ ਸ਼ਰੀਅਤਿ (ਬਾਹਰਲੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਹਿਣੀ)।
ਤਰੀਕਤਿ ਤਰਕ ਖੋਜਿ ਟੋਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
tareekat tarak khoj tolaavahu.
Let giving up your ego and searching God within yourself be your Tariqat, the purification of mind.
(ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ) ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਲੱਭ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ।
ਮਾਰਫਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਅਬਦਾਲਾ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਹਕੀਕਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਮਰਾ ॥੩॥
maarfat man maarahu abdaalaa milhu hakeekat jit fir na maraa. ||3||
O’ Abdalla (saint), let controlling the mind be your Maarfat (spiritual wisdom), realizing God be the Haqiqat (spiritual uplift) and you will not die again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਅਬਦਾਲ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਫ਼ਤਿ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ)। ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੁ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਹਕੀਕਤਿ (ਚੌਥਾ ਪਦ)। ਇਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰੇਗਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ਕਤੇਬ ਦਿਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
kuraan katayb dil maahi kamaahee.
O’ man of Allah, practice the teachings of the Quran and other holy books in your heart.
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਨ, ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਲੀਮ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਦਸ ਅਉਰਾਤ ਰਖਹੁ ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀ ॥
das a-uraat rakhahu bad raahee.
Restrain your ten sensory organs from following evil ways.
ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸ ਹੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖ।
ਪੰਚ ਮਰਦ ਸਿਦਕਿ ਲੇ ਬਾਧਹੁ ਖੈਰਿ ਸਬੂਰੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਪਰਾ ॥੪॥
panch marad sidak lay baaDhhu khair sabooree kabool paraa. ||4||
Bind down the five men (the evil impulses) with the rope of faith; your charity and contentment will win you approval in the presence of Allah (God). ||4||
ਸਿਦਕ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ; ਸੰਤੋਖ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਹਿਂਗਾ ॥੪॥
ਮਕਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਰੋਜਾ ਪੈ ਖਾਕਾ ॥
makaa mihar rojaa pai khaakaa.
O’ man of Allah, let mercy be your Mecca (holy shrine), and observe the fast of considering yourself the dust of the feet of all (the most humble person).
ਹੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤਰਸ ਨੂੰ (ਹੱਜ-ਅਸਥਾਨ) ਮੱਕਾ (ਸਮਝ)। (ਸਭ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿਣਾ (ਅਸਲ) ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਿਸਤੁ ਪੀਰ ਲਫਜ ਕਮਾਇ ਅੰਦਾਜਾ ॥
bhisat peer lafaj kamaa-ay andaajaa.
To fully follow the word of your prophet is to ensure a seat in paradise.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ।
ਹੂਰ ਨੂਰ ਮੁਸਕੁ ਖੁਦਾਇਆ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਅਲਹ ਆਲਾ ਹੁਜਰਾ ॥੫॥
hoor noor musak khudaa-i-aa bandagee alah aalaa hujraa. ||5||
Let the divine beauty be your heavenly fairies, devotional worship of Allah your fragrance, and meditation on God your Hujra (the worship chamber). ||5||
ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੇ ਨੂਰ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹੂਰ ਹੀ ਹੂਰਾਂ ਹਨ, ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਹੀ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਹੈ। ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਹੁਜਰਾ ਹੈ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਲਈ ਇਕਾਂਤ ਸਥਾਨ) ॥੫॥
