ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਢਾਹੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
hukmay saajay hukmay dhaahay hukmay mayl milaa-idaa. ||5||
God creates everything by His command and also destroys by His command; by His command, He unites beings with Him by uniting them with the Guru. ||5||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਢਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ॥ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
hukmai boojhai so hukam salaahay. agam agochar vayparvaahay.
O’ inaccessible, incomprehensible, and carefree God! one who understands Your command, honors that command
ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਅਗੋਚਰ! ਹੇ ਵੇ-ਪਰਵਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
jayhee mat deh so hovai too aapay sabad bujhaa-idaa. ||6||
Whatever intellect You give a person, he becomes like that; You Yourself make one understand Your command, by attuning him to the Guru’s word. ||6||
ਤੂੰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਮੱਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਆਰਜਾ ਛਿਜਦੀ ਜਾਏ ॥ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਾਖੀ ਆਏ ॥
an-din aarjaa chhijdee jaa-ay. rain dinas du-ay saakhee aa-ay.
Both day and night are witness to this fact that one’s life is diminishing by the passing of every day.
ਰਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੇ ਗਵਾਹ ਹਨ, ਕਿ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਘਟਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਮੂੜਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਰੂਆਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
manmukh anDh na chaytai moorhaa sir oopar kaal roo-aa-idaa. ||7||
But the ignorant self-willed fool does not remember God at all, while death is hovering over his head. ||7||
ਪਰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ, ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਉਧਰੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਨਗਾਰਾ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੱਜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
man tan seetal gur charnee laagaa.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, his mind and body remains peaceful,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
antar bharam ga-i-aa bha-o bhaagaa.
the doubt from his heart vanishes and his fear of every kind runs away.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੋਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
sadaa anand sachay gun gaavahi sach banee bolaa-idaa. ||8||
Those who sing the praises of the eternal God, always remain in spiritual bliss; but it is God who Himself inspires one to recite the divine word. ||8||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jin too jaataa karam biDhaataa.
O’ God, one who has understood You as the judge of our deeds,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
poorai bhaag gur sabad pachhaataa.
by perfect destiny and through the Guru’s word, he has recognized You (pervading everywhere).
ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ।
ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
jat pat sach sachaa sach so-ee ha-umai maar milaa-idaa. ||9||
The eternal God Himself becomes his social class and honor of the one, whom He Unites with Himself after eradicating his ego. ||9||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਮਨੁ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
man kathor doojai bhaa-ay laagaa.
One who remains engrossed in the love for duality (maya), is stone hearted;
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਭਾਗਾ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa firai abhaagaa.
deluded by doubt, this unfortunate one remains strayed in life.
ਉਹ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
karam hovai taa satgur sayvay sehjay hee sukh paa-idaa. ||10||
When God bestows mercy, he follows the true Guru’s teachings and intuitively enjoys inner peace. ||10|
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh aap upaa-ay.
God Himself has created millions of species of living beings,
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਆਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
maanas janam gur bhagat drirh-aa-ay.
but only in human life, the Guru implants devotional worship of God within a person.
ਪਰ ਸਿਰਫ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
bin bhagtee bistaa vich vaasaa bistaa vich fir paa-idaa. ||11||
Without the devotional worship of God, one lives in the filth of vices, and keeps falling back into vices life after life. ||11||
ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
karam hovai gur bhagat drirh-aa-ay.
When God bestows mercy upon a person, then the Guru implants devotional worship of God in his heart.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥
vin karmaa ki-o paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
Without God’s grace, how can anyone realize Him?
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾਹੈ?
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
aapay karay karaa-ay kartaa ji-o bhaavai tivai chalaa-idaa. ||12||
The Creator Himself does and gets everything done; as it pleases Him, He makes the mortals conduct accordingly.||12||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
simrit saasat ant na jaanai.
One cannot know the limits of God by studying the Smritis and Shastras.
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਓੜਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
moorakh anDhaa tat na pachhaanai.
Spiritually ignorant fool cannot understand the essence of reality.
(ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
aapay karay karaa-ay kartaa aapay bharam bhulaa-idaa. ||13||
The Creator Himself does and gets everything done, He Himself strays one in doubt (as per his deeds).||13||
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
sabh kichh aapay aap karaa-ay.
God Himself causes everything to be done,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
aapay sir sir DhanDhai laa-ay.
and He Himself attaches each and every person to his task.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
aapay thaap uthaapay vaykhai gurmukh aap bujhaa-idaa. ||14||
God Himself creates and then destroys the human beings; He Himself takes care of them and makes them understand the righteous life through the Guru’s teachings .||14||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਦੀ) ਸੋਝੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥
sachaa saahib gahir gambheeraa.
The eternal God is unfathomable and profoundly deep.
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ, ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
sadaa salaahee taa man Dheeraa.
When I praise Him at all times, my mind remains tranquil.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
agam agochar keemat nahee paa-ee gurmukh man vasaa-idaa. ||15||
The inaccessible, and incomprehensible God cannot be evaluated; He enshrines His Name in one’s mind through the Guru’s teachings.||15||
ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੇ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਹੋਰ ਧੰਧੈ ਲੋਈ ॥
aap niraalam hor DhanDhai lo-ee.
God Himself is detached but the rest of the world is entangled in the deeds of Maya.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਵਿਚ ਖਚਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gur parsaadee boojhai ko-ee.
By the Guru’s grace, only a rare person understands this concept.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਗਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੩॥੧੭॥
naanak naam vasai ghat antar gurmatee mayl milaa-idaa. ||16||3||17||
O’ Nanak, God manifests in one’s heart by the Guru’s grace; God unites one with Himself by first uniting him to the Guru’s teachings. ||16||3||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੩॥੧੭॥
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਜੁਗ ਛਤੀਹ ਕੀਓ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
jug chhateeh kee-o gubaaraa.
O’ God! for countless ages, You kept the universe in a state of darkness (which is beyond the understanding of mortals).
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਮਾ ਤੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖੀ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
too aapay jaaneh sirjanhaaraa.
O’ Creator, You Yourself know about that state.
ਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹਾਲਤ ਕੀਹ ਸੀ)।
ਹੋਰ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
hor ki-aa ko kahai ke aakh vakhaanai too aapay keemat paa-idaa. ||1||
What else can anybody say or explain, only You Yourself know about the reality of that state. ||1||
(ਉਸ ਗੁਬਾਰ ਦੀ ਬਾਬਤ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
o-ankaar sabh sarisat upaa-ee.
The Creator has created the entire universe.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਤਮਾਸਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
sabh khayl tamaasaa tayree vadi-aa-ee.
O’ God, this entire universe is all Your play and the manifestation of Your glory.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਸਾਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਕ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
aapay vayk karay sabh saachaa aapay bhann gharhaa-idaa. ||2||
God Himself creates the creatures of various kinds and on His own He destroys and recreates them. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਾਜੀਗਰਿ ਇਕ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
baajeegar ik baajee paa-ee.
God has created this world, just like a juggler stages a play.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-) ਬਾਜੀਗਰ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਈ ॥
pooray gur tay nadree aa-ee.
One who has understood this play through the perfect Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਗਈ,
ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
sadaa alipat rahai gur sabdee saachay si-o chit laa-idaa. ||3||
he forever remains detached in this play; he follows the Guru’s word and keeps his mind focused on remembering the eternal God. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਾਜਹਿ ਬਾਜੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥
baajeh baajay Dhun aakaaraa.
All these living bodies are like many musical instruments playing together and emitting different tunes.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਿੱਠੀ ਸੁਰ) ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਜਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
aap vajaa-ay vajaavanhaaraa.
It is God Himself who is playing these instruments.
ਵਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ (ਸਰੀਰ-) ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪਉਣੁ ਵਹੈ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਵਣੈ ਸਭ ਵਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
ghat ghat pa-un vahai ik rangee mil pavnai sabh vajaa-idaa. ||4||
The wind (breath) created by God is flowing equally through each and every body; through this wind, God Himself is playing all these instruments. ||4||
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਰੰਗ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੁਆਸ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ) ਪਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
