ਅਨਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਜੈ ॥
anhad vaajai bharam bha-o bhaajai.
When the non-stop melody of divine music rings in one’s mind, all his doubts and dreads flee away.
ਜਦ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੂੰਜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੇ ਡਰ-ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛਾਜੈ ॥
sagal bi-aap rahi-aa parabh chhaajai.
Then he realizes that God is pervading everywhere and is providing His shade of protection to everybody.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
sabh tayree too gurmukh jaataa dar sohai gun gaa-idaa. ||10||
O’ God, the entire world is Your creation; You are realized by the Guru’s grace, and one looks beauteous singing Your praises in Your presence. ||10||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
aad niranjan nirmal so-ee.
The immaculate God has been there even before the beginning of time, and He is free from the effects of Maya, the worldly riches and power.
ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥
avar na jaanaa doojaa ko-ee.
I do not know anybody else like Him.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
aykankaar vasai man bhaavai ha-umai garab gavaa-idaa. ||11||
One who eradicates ego and self-conceit, God becomes pleasing to his mind and is enshrined in his mind. ||11||
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ;ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
amrit pee-aa satgur dee-aa.
One who has partaken the ambrosial nectar of Naam, given by the true Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਤਾ,
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਆ ਤੀਆ ॥
avar na jaanaa doo-aa tee-aa.
except for the one God, he does not recognize any second or third entity.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ l
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਸੁ ਅਪਰ ਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਪਰਖਿ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
ayko ayk so apar parampar parakh khajaanai paa-idaa. ||12||
He knows that there is one and only one limitless God, who accepts the human beings in His presence after evaluating their deeds. ||12||
(ਉਸਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਇਕੋ ਇਕ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਖ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan sach gahir gambheeraa.
O’ the unfathomable and profound God, receiving divine wisdom and lovingly remembering You is the most truthful and pious deed.
ਹੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਉੱਦਮ) ਹੈ।
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਚੀਰਾ ॥
ko-ay na jaanai tayraa cheeraa.
O’ God, no one knows about the extent of Your expanse.
ਹੇ ਸਾਈਂ! ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ।
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
jaytee hai taytee tuDh jaachai karam milai so paa-idaa. ||13||
As much is the creation, all begs from You, but one gets only that, which is received by Your grace. ||13||
ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਮੰਗਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ॥
karam Dharam sach haath tumaarai.
O’ God, all the faith rituals and righteousness are in Your control.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਚਾਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰੈ ॥
vayparvaah akhut bhandaarai.
O’ carefree God, Your treasures are inexhaustible.
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਪਰਵਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ।
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
too da-i-aal kirpaal sadaa parabh aapay mayl milaa-idaa. ||14||
O’ God! You are always merciful and kind; You Yourself unite humans with the Guru and then unite them with Yourself. ||14||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਇਆਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ॥੧੪॥
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ॥
aapay daykh dikhaavai aapay.
God Himself takes care of His creation and reveals Himself to them.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
aapay thaap uthaapay aapay.
He Himself creates and destroys (His creation).
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
aapay jorh vichhorhay kartaa aapay maar jeevaa-idaa. ||15||
The Creator Himself unites some and separates others from Him; He Himself causes some to spiritually deteriorate and then rejuvenate. ||15||
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵਿਛੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ॥
jaytee hai taytee tuDh andar.
O’ God, as much is the creation, it all works within Your command.
ਇਹ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਖਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਬਿਜ ਮੰਦਰਿ ॥
daykheh aap bais bij mandar.
Sitting in Your eternal mansion (human body), You take care of Your creation.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਹਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੩॥
naanak saach kahai baynantee har darsan sukh paa-idaa. ||16||1||13||
O’ God! Nanak always lovingly remembers You and prays for Your blessed vision; one who experiences it, receives inner peace. ||16||1||13||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ) ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੩॥

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਾ ॥ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
darsan paavaa jay tuDh bhaavaa. bhaa-ay bhagat saachay gun gaavaa.
O’ God, if I am pleasing to You, only then I can experience Your blessed vision, and sing Your praises with loving devotion.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ, ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੂ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
tuDh bhaanay too bhaaveh kartay aapay rasan rasaa-idaa. ||1||
O’ Creator, those who look dear to You, to them You look dear, and You Yourself bless their tongue with the relish of Your love . ||1||
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਰਸੀਲੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਸੋਹਨਿ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
sohan bhagat parabhoo darbaaray.
O’ God, Your devotees look beauteous in Your presence.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
Mukath Bheae Har Dhaas Thumaarae ||
Your disciples are spiritually liberated from bonds of attachments.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
aap gavaa-ay tayrai rang raatay an-din naam Dhi-aa-idaa. ||2||
Shedding their self-conceit, they remain imbued in Your Love, and they always keep meditating on Your Name. ||2||
ਉਹ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਈਸਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ॥ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਤਪੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
eesar barahmaa dayvee dayvaa. indar tapay mun tayree sayvaa.
O’ God, even gods like Shiva, Brahma, Indra, other gods, goddesses, ascetics and silent sages perform Your devotional worship.
ਸ਼ਿਵ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇਵਤਾ, ਤਪੀ ਲੋਕ, ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮੁਨੀ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਨਵਾਸੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
jatee satee kaytay banvaasee ant na ko-ee paa-idaa. ||3||
The innumerable men of austerity, high character, and detached people living in jungles, none of them can find the limit of Your virtues. ||3||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਧਾਰੀ, ਉੱਚ-ਆਚਰਨੀ, ਤੇ ਬਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਿਆਗੀ ,ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਵਿਣੁ ਜਾਣਾਏ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
vin jaanaa-ay ko-ay na jaanai.
Unless God reveals Himself, no one can know about Him.
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਨਾਹ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣੈ ॥
jo kichh karay so aapan bhaanai.
Whatever God does, he does it is as per His own will.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਾਹ ਲਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh jee-a upaa-ay bhaanai saah lavaa-idaa. ||4||
God has created millions of creatures, but He lets them breathe as long as He wishes. ||4||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so nihcha-o hovai.
Whatever pleases God that happens for sure.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਛ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਏ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
manmukh aap ganaa-ay rovai.
The self-willed person shows off and endures grief.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਜਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੁਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
naavhu bhulaa tha-ur na paa-ay aa-ay jaa-ay dukh paa-idaa. ||5||
One strayed from God’s Name finds no place for celestial peace, remains in the cycle of births and death and edures misery. ||5||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਜਮਨ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਾਇਆ ਊਜਲ ਹੰਸਾ ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਅੰਸਾ ॥
nirmal kaa-i-aa oojal hansaa. tis vich naam niranjan ansaa.
The soul, part of the supreme soul (God), is sacred; immaculate is the body in which manifests the Name of the immaculate God.
ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ (ਸਰੀਰ) ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਸਹੀ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਅੰਸ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
saglay dookh amrit kar peevai baahurh dookh na paa-idaa. ||6||
Such a person eradicates all his sufferings as if he drinks these like the ambrosial nectar and after that he never endures any misery. ||6||
ਉਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੰਦ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਤਕਲਫ਼ਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਠਾਉਂਦਾ ॥੬॥।
ਬਹੁ ਸਾਦਹੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
baho saadahu dookh paraapat hovai.
Indulgence in too many worldly pleasures bring sorrow.
ਬਹੁਤੇ (ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭੋਗਹੁ ਰੋਗ ਸੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ॥
bhogahu rog so ant vigovai.
The worldly pleasures lead to disease, and one ultimately gets ruined.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਭੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਰੋਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਖਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਕਬਹੂ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਭਰਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
harkhahu sog na mit-ee kabhoo vin bhaanay bharmaa-idaa. ||7||
The worldly pleasures can never erase anxiety; without accepting God’s will, one remains wandering in doubt . ||7||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ ਹੀ । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭਵੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
gi-aan vihoonee bhavai sabaa-ee.
Without spiritual wisdom, the entire word is just wandering around in doubt.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਤ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਭਟਕ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
saachaa rav rahi-aa liv laa-ee.
The eternal God is perceived pervading everywhere by developing love for Him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿਸ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
nirbha-o sabad guroo sach jaataa jotee jot milaa-idaa. ||8||
One who has enshrined the fear removing Guru’s word in his mind and has realized God, the Guru’s word unites his soul with God’s supreme soul. ||8||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਜੋ ਨਿਰਭੈਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਅਟਲੁ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
atal adol atol muraaray.
God is eternal, immovable, and His virtues are immeasurable
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਦੇ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਢਾਹੇ ਫੇਰਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ॥
khin meh dhaahay fayr usaaray.
In an instant, He destroys (the universe) and rebuilds it again (in an instant).
ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਢਾਹ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
roop na raykh-i-aa mit nahee keemat sabad bhayd patee-aa-idaa. ||9||
God has no form or shape, He has no limits and His worth cannot be estimated, one who is convinced by the Guru’s word, becomes impressed about remembrance of God. ||9||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਰੂਪ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
