ਲਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਲਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
lag lag pareet baho pareet lagaa-ee lag saaDhoo sang savaaray.
Those who have developed intense love for God’s Name by repeatedly reflecting on the Guru’s word, have embellished their life by joining the company of saints.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਲਈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਚੰਗੇ ਬਣਾ ਲਏ l
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੬॥
gur kay bachan sat sat kar maanay mayray thaakur bahut pi-aaray. ||6||
Those who have accepted the Guru’s divine word as totally true, are very dear to my Master-God. ||6||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੰਨ ਲਏ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਪਰਚੂਨ ਕਮਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
poorab janam parchoon kamaa-ay har har har naam pi-aaray.
One who had done at least some virtuous deeds in the previous births, has developed love for God’s Name even in this life.
ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਥੋੜੇ ਥੋੜੇ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਸੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
gur parsaad amrit ras paa-i-aa ras gaavai ras veechaaray. ||7||
By the Guru’s grace, he attains the ambrosial nectar of Naam; he always reflects and sings praises of God’s Name. ||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਵੀਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲਨ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਰੇ ॥
har har roop rang sabh tayray mayray laalan laal gulaaray.
O’ my most beloved and affectionate God, all these beings of different forms, features and colors are Yours;
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਲਾਲ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲਾਲ! (ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ) ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਹਨ,
ਜੈਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੩॥
jaisaa rang deh so hovai ki-aa naanak jant vichaaray. ||8||3||
whatever intellect you bless one with, he becomes like that: O’ Nanak, what can these helpless beings do? ||8||3||
ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਰੰਗ ਤੂੰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਰੰਗ ਹੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੀ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੩॥

Raag Nat, Fourth Guru:
ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥
raam gur saran parabhoo rakhvaaray.
O’ God, (one on whom You bestow mercy,) You become his savior by blessing him with the Guru’s refuge,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਜਿਉ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਤਦੂਐ ਪਕਰਿ ਚਲਾਇਓ ਕਰਿ ਊਪਰੁ ਕਢਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ji-o kunchar tadoo-ai pakar chalaa-i-o kar oopar kadh nistaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
just like You saved Gaj, the elephant, by lifting and pulling it out of water when the alligator caught and dragged him into the water. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੰਦੂਏ ਨੇ ਗਜ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਖਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ (ਤੰਦੂਏ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
parabh kay sayvak bahut at neekay man sarDhaa kar har Dhaaray.
Extremely beauteous (righteous) is the life of God’s devotees; God blesses them with the support of Naam by instilling faith in their minds.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
mayray parabh sarDhaa bhagat man bhaavai jan kee paij savaaray. ||1||
Faith and devotional worship are pleasing to my God; He saves the honor of His devotee. ||1||
ਭਰੋਸਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥
har har sayvak sayvaa laagai sabh daykhai barahm pasaaray.
That devotee of God who engages in His devotional worship, experiences Him pervading the entire expanse of the universe.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਏਕੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
ayk purakh ik nadree aavai sabh aykaa nadar nihaaray. ||2||
He beholds the all pervading God everywhere Who is watching over all the beings with the same one gracious glance. ||2||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਸਭੁ ਚੇਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥
har parabh thaakur ravi-aa sabh thaa-ee sabh chayree jagat samaaray.
The Master-God is pervading everywhere; God takes care of the entire world considering all the beings as His devotees.
ਮਾਲਕ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਟਹਿਲਣ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਰੇ ਕਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
aap da-i-aal da-i-aa daan dayvai vich paathar keeray kaaray. ||3||
The merciful God Himself bestows mercy and bounties on His creatures and provides sustenance even to the worms, which He creates in the rocks. ||3||
ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੀੜੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮੁਸਕਾਈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਮਿਰਗੁ ਸਿੰਙ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥
antar vaas bahut muskaa-ee bharam bhoolaa mirag sinyhaaray.
Just as a deer has the fragrance of musk within itself, and still lost in doubt, he keeps looking for it outside in the bushes by shaking them with his horns,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਰਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੁੱਲ ਕੇ ਹਰਨ (ਉਸ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਢੂਢਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
ban ban dhoodh dhoodh fir thaakee gur poorai ghar nistaaray. ||4||
similarly God is within all but they get exhausted seeking Him from forest to forest (outside), ultimately the perfect Guru has made them realize God within their heart and has ferried them across the world-ocean of vices. ||4||
ਤਿਵੇਂਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ) ਜੰਗਲ ਜੰਗਲ ਢੂੰਢ ਢੂੰਢ ਕੇ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
banee guroo guroo hai banee vich banee amrit saaray.
The divine word is the Guru, and the Guru is the divine word; the ambrosial nectar of Naam is permeating within the divine word.
ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਹੈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
gur banee kahai sayvak jan maanai partakh guroo nistaaray. ||5||
Whatever the Guru proclaims through the divine word, the devotee faithfully follows it; for sure, the Guru ferries him across the world ocean of vices. ||5||
ਬਾਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੇਵਕ ਉਸ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਖਾਵਾਰੇ ॥
sabh hai barahm barahm hai pasri-aa man beeji-aa khaavaaray.
God is present in all, He is permeating everywhere; one reaps what he sows in his mind (one lives according to his thoughts):
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ; ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਜੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ,
ਜਿਉ ਜਨ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਹਾਂਸੁ ਦੁਖਿਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਸਟਬੁਧੀ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਲੂਕੀ ਜਾਰੇ ॥੬॥
ji-o jan chandar-haaNs dukhi-aa DharistbuDhee apunaa ghar lookee jaaray. ||6||
just as, while plotting to harm prince Chandrahans, the minister Drisht Budhi burnt his own house (got his own son killed and then committed suicide). ||6||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧ੍ਰਿਸਟਬੁਧੀ ਭਲੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਹਾਂਸ ਦਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਆਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾੜ ਬੈਠਾ ॥੬॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਜਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਲੋਚੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਸ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥
parabh ka-o jan antar rid lochai parabh jan kay saas nihaaray.
A devotee always longs to realize God within his heart,and God watches and protects His devotee at all times.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਤਾਂਘਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਜਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
kirpaa kirpaa kar bhagat drirh-aa-ay jan peechhai jag nistaaray. ||7||
By bestowing mercy, God firmly instills devotional worship within His devotee; God also liberates from vices those who follow this devotee. ||7||
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਨਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਆਪਨ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
aapan aap aap parabh thaakur parabh aapay sarisat savaaray.
The Master-God is all by Himself and on His own; God Himself embellishes the universe.
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁੱਛ ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਹੈ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਸੋਭਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੪॥
jan naanak aapay aap sabh vartai kar kirpaa aap nistaaray. ||8||4||
O’ Nanak, God Himself is all-pervading; by bestowing mercy, He Himself ferries the beings across the worldly ocean of vices. ||8||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੪॥

O’ God, please bestow mercy and save me from the vices,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ,
ਜਿਉ ਪਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਦੁਸਟਾਂ ਆਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਜ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ji-o pakar daropatee dustaaN aanee har har laaj nivaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
just as You saved Daropati from shame when she was seized and brought before the court by the evil villains. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਜਦੋਂ) ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਨੇ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਸੀ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਗਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਕੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
kar kirpaa jaachik jan tayray ik maaga-o daan pi-aaray.
O’ God, please bestow mercy, we are beggars at Your door, all I ask for is one blessing.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਅਸੀਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਇਕ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਨਿਤ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
satgur kee nit sarDhaa laagee mo ka-o har gur mayl savaaray. ||1||
I always long to meet the true Guru: O’ God, please embellish my life by uniting me with the Guru. ||1||
(ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ (ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ) ਸਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਕਤ ਕਰਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਿਉ ਮਥੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਝੋਲ ਝੁਲਾਰੇ ॥
saakat karam paanee ji-o mathee-ai nit paanee jhol jhulaaray.
The actions of the faithless cynic are useless like the churning of water (without any spiritual gain); yes, he always keeps churning the water.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ (ਇਉਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ) ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਰਿੜਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੀ ਰਿੜਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਢਿ ਮਾਖਨ ਕੇ ਗਟਕਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
mil satsangat param pad paa-i-aa kadh maakhan kay gatkaaray. ||2||
One who has attained the supreme spiritual state by joining the holy congregation, enjoys this state like relishing the butter obtained by churning milk. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਦੁੱਧ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮੱਖਣ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਮੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਜਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
nit nit kaa-i-aa majan kee-aa nit mal mal dayh savaaray.
One who daily bathes, cleanses and embellishes his body,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
