ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
vadaa saahib guroo milaa-i-aa jin taari-aa sagal jagat.
The Guru has united me with God, the supreme Master who has saved the entire world from the vices.
ਉਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥
man kee-aa ichhaa pooree-aa paa-i-aa Dhur sanjog.
One who is preordained, gets the wishes of his mind fulfilled.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਇਹ ਢੋ ਢੁਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਭ ਕਾਮਨਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗ ॥੧॥
naanak paa-i-aa sach naam sad hee bhogay bhog. ||1||
O’ Nanak, he realizes God’s Name and enjoys its bliss forever. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਕੇਰੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ॥
manmukhaa kayree dostee maa-i-aa kaa san-banDh.
The friendship with self-willed people is only a relationship of worldly riches and power.
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ ਗਾਂਢਾ-ਤੋਪਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵੇਖਦਿਆ ਹੀ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
vaykh-di-aa hee bhaj jaan kaday na paa-in banDh.
They never form a reliable bond; seeing one in need, they run away.
ਉਹ ਕਦੇ (ਮਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦੀ) ਪੱਕੀ ਗੰਢ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ, ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਪੈਨਨਿ ਖਾਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਰਖਨਿ ਗੰਢੁ ॥
jichar painan khaavnHay tichar rakhan gandh.
They stick around as long as their needs like food and clothes are met.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਤੇ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਰਹੇ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਜੋੜ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਗੰਧੁ ॥
jit din kichh na hova-ee tit din bolan ganDh.
The day they find that there is nothing left to be gained, they start speaking foul.
ਜਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ-ਹੰਢਾਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਪੁੱਜ ਨ ਆਵੇ, ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਫਿੱਕਾ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ॥
jee-a kee saar na jaannee manmukh agi-aanee anDh.
These self-willed, spiritually ignorant fools do not realize the state of their soul.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਹੀਣ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਨਿਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਝੁਲਕਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਆਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਕੂੜਾ ਗੰਢੁ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਚਿਕੜਿ ਪਥਰ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
koorhaa gandh na chal-ee chikarh pathar banDh.
Like a dam of stones and mud, their false relationship does not last long.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਗਾਂਢਾ-ਤੋਪਾ (ਬਹੁਤ ਚਿਰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਗਦਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ (ਛੇਤੀ ਢਹਿ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਅੰਧੇ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਫਕੜੁ ਪਿਟਨਿ ਧੰਧੁ ॥
anDhay aap na jaannee fakarh pitan DhanDh.
The self-willed spiritually ignorant fools do not realize who they really are, and unnecessarily keep agonizing over useless worldly attractions.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ (ਨਿਰਾ ਬਾਹਰਲਾ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਪਿੱਟਣਾ ਪਿੱਟਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਝੂਠੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹੰਧੁ ॥
jhoothai mohi laptaa-i-aa ha-o ha-o karat bihanDh.
Engrossed in false worldly attachments, the entire life of self-willed persons passes in selfish pursuits.
ਨਿਕੰਮੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ‘ਮੈਂ, ਮੈਂ’ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
kirpaa karay jis aapnee Dhur pooraa karam karay-i.
One on whom God bestows mercy, he is able to fulfill his preordained destiny.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੨॥
jan naanak say jan ubray jo satgur saran paray. ||2||
O’ Nanak, those who seek the refuge of the true Guru, are saved from the false worldly love. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ (ਇਸ ਕੂੜੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਸੇਈ ਸਚੁ ਹਾਕੁ ॥
jo ratay deedaar say-ee sach haak.
O’ my friend, those who are imbued with the love of God’s blessed vision, consider them the embodiment of the eternal God.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਭੈ ਤਿਨਾ ਖਾਕੁ ॥
jinee jaataa khasam ki-o labhai tinaa khaak.
How can one get the opportunity to humbly serve those who have realized the Master-God,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
man mailaa vaykaar hovai sang paak.
because the mind, which is filled with the dirt of evils, becomes pure in their company.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਬਣ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਿਸੈ ਸਚਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਭਰਮ ਤਾਕੁ ॥
disai sachaa mahal khulai bharam taak.
The door of doubt opens up and God’s abode (in the heart) becomes visible.
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਭਰਮ-ਭੁਲੇਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਬੰਦ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਤਮਕ) ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਧਾਕੁ ॥
jisahi dikhaalay mahal tis na milai Dhaak.
The person, to whom God shows His abode, is never pushed away from there.
( ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਫਿਰ) ਧੱਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਬਿੰਦਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਝਾਕੁ ॥
man tan ho-ay nihaal bindak nadar jhaak.
With a glance of God’s grace even for an instant, his body and mind become blessed and delighted.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਝਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
na-o niDh naam niDhaan gur kai sabad laag.
By following the Guru’s word, he receives the wealth of Naam which is like all the treasures of the world.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਸੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਤ ਖਾਕੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੫॥
tisai milai sant khaak mastak jisai bhaag. ||5||
One who is so preordained, gets to humbly follow the Guru’s teachings. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥

Shalok, Fifth Guru:
ਹਰਣਾਖੀ ਕੂ ਸਚੁ ਵੈਣੁ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਜੋ ਤਉ ਕਰੇ ਉਧਾਰਣੁ ॥
harnaakhee koo sach vain sunaa-ee jo ta-o karay uDhaaran.
O’ the soul-bride with deer like eyes, I am going to utter true words, which would liberate you from the vices.
ਹੇ ਹਿਰਨ ਦੇ ਅਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸੱਚੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਕਰੇਗੀ।
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਚਨ ਤੁਮ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਛਬੀਲੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਤੈਡਾ ਮਨ ਸਾਧਾਰਣੁ ॥
sundar bachan tum sunhu chhabeelee pir taidaa man saaDhaaran.
O’ beautiful young bride, listen to these superb words that your Husband-God is the support of your mind,
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ, ਤੇਰਾ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੁਰਜਨ ਸੇਤੀ ਨੇਹੁ ਰਚਾਇਓ ਦਸਿ ਵਿਖਾ ਮੈ ਕਾਰਣੁ ॥
durjan saytee nayhu rachaa-i-o das vikhaa mai kaaran.
but you have fallen in love with evils; tell me and show me the reason for this.
ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਦੁਰਜਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ, ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ।
ਊਣੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਝੂਣੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ॥
oonee naahee jhoonee naahee naahee kisai vihoonee.
You are not lacking in anything; neither you are dumb, nor without any virtues;
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲੇ ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀ ਹੈਂ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੁਣੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ,
ਪਿਰੁ ਛੈਲੁ ਛਬੀਲਾ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਇਓ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ॥
pir chhail chhabeelaa chhad gavaa-i-o durmat karam vihoonee.
but, because of your evil intellect and bad deeds, you have abandoned and lost your handsome Husband-God.
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਾਂਕਾ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਹਉ ਭੁਲੀ ਨਾ ਹਉ ਚੁਕੀ ਨਾ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੋਸਾ ॥
naa ha-o bhulee naa ha-o chukee naa mai naahee dosaa.
O’ friend, I have neither made any mistake, nor have I forgotten anything and there is no fault in me;
(ਹੇ ਸਖੀ!) ਮੈਂ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮੈਂ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਧੀ, ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਸ ਨਹੀਂ;
ਜਿਤੁ ਹਉ ਲਾਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਹਉ ਲਗੀ ਤੂ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਦੇਸਾ ॥
jit ha-o laa-ee tit ha-o lagee too sun sach sandaysaa.
listen to this truth, I am doing the task to which God has attached me to.
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਸੁਣ ਲੈ: ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਓਧਰ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਈ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਾਈ ਭਾਗਣਿ ਜੈ ਪਿਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
saa-ee sohagan saa-ee bhaagan jai pir kirpaa Dhaaree.
Only that soul-bride can be truly fortunate, on whom the Husband God has cast His glance of grace.
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੋਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਿਰਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਗਵਾਏ ਗਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਾਇ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
pir a-ugan tis kay sabh gavaa-ay gal saytee laa-ay savaaree.
The Husband-God has dispelled all her vices, and has embellished her by keeping her very close to Him.
ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਔਗੁਣ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮਹੀਣ ਧਨ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਕਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਵੈ ਵਾਰੀ ॥
karamheen Dhan karai binantee kad naanak aavai vaaree.
O Nanak, the unfortunate soul-bride humbly prays:, when will my turn come (to unite with my Husband-God)?
ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੇੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਮੇਰੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਕਦੋਂ ਆਵੇਗੀ?
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਇਕ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
sabh suhaagan maaneh ralee-aa ik dayvhu raat muraaree. ||1||
She says: O’ God, all the fortunate brides are enjoying Your company, please bless me also with the joy of Your company even for an instant. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਾਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ) ਇਕ ਰਾਤ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਕਾਹੇ ਮਨ ਤੂ ਡੋਲਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
kaahay man too doltaa har mansaa pooranhaar.
O’ my mind, why do you waiver, God is there to fulfill your wishes.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
satgur purakh Dhi-aa-ay too sabh dukh visaaranhaar.
You should meditate on that true Guru, embodiment of God, who is the destroyer of all pains and sufferings.
ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਮਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
har naamaa aaraaDh man sabh kilvikh jaahi vikaar.
O’ my mind, meditate on God’s Name, so that all your sins get destroyed.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa tin rang lagaa nirankaar.
Those who have been so predestined, are imbued with the love of God.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਨੀ ਛਡਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਆਵੜਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
onee chhadi-aa maa-i-aa su-aavarhaa Dhan sanchi-aa naam apaar.
They forsake the bad taste of Maya, the worldly riches and power, and amass the limitless wealth of Naam.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਭੈੜਾ ਚਸਕਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਇਕਤੈ ਲਿਵੈ ਮੰਨੇਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
athay pahar iktai livai mannayn hukam apaar.
They always remain focused on remembering God with adoration; they obey the command of the infinite God only.
ਉਹ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ।
