ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
so boojhai jis aap bujhaa-ay gur kai sabad so mukat bha-i-aa.
That person alone understands this mystery, whom God Himself inspires to understand, and he is liberated from ego through the Guru’s word.
ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਰਹਰਿਆ ॥੨੫॥
naanak taaray taaranhaaraa ha-umai doojaa parhari-aa. ||25||
O’ Nanak! one who has renounced ego and the love for duality, the savior-God ferries him across the world ocean of vices. ||25||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੈ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥
manmukh bhoolai jam kee kaan.
A self-willed person goes astray from the righteous path of life and remains under the shadow of death.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ) ਖੁੰਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਹਾਣੇ ਹਾਣਿ ॥
par ghar johai haanay haan.
Such a person looks at others’ property with evil intent which brings him loss after loss in his spiritual life.
ਪਰਾਇਆ ਘਰ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਵਿਚ) ਘਾਟਾ ਹੀ ਘਾਟਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਵੈ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥
manmukh bharam bhavai baybaan.
Strayed by doubt, a self-conceited person spends life as if he is wandering in the wilderness,
ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਵੇਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੂਸੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਮਸਾਣਿ ॥
vaymaarag moosai mantar masaan.
being on the wrong path in life, he is getting deceived like the one chanting mantras in cremation grounds.
ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਇਉਂ) ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਸਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਲਵੈ ਕੁਬਾਣਿ ॥
sabad na cheenai lavai kubaan.
He does not reflect on the Guru’s word and utters evil words.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ), ਤੇ ਦੁਰਬਚਨ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥੨੬॥
naanak saach ratay sukh jaan. ||26||
O’ Nanak, deem only those enjoying the celestial peace, who is imbued with the love of the eternal God. ||26||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੁਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿਲਿਆ) ਜਾਣੋ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੬॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh saachay kaa bha-o paavai.
A Guru’s follower enshrines the revered fear of God in his heart,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਘੜੁ ਘੜਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh banee agharh gharhaavai.
and refines his unrefined mind by reflecting on the Guru’s teachings.
ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਮੋੜ-ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh nirmal har gun gaavai.
The Guru’s follower always sings praises of the immaculate God,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh pavitar param pad paavai.
and attains the immaculate supreme spiritual status.
ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
gurmukh rom rom har Dhi-aavai.
A Guru’s follower remembers God with total concentration of body and mind.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਨੋਂ ਮਨੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨੭॥
naanak gurmukh saach samaavai. ||27||
O’ Nanak! (this is how) a Guru’s follower merges in the eternal God ||27||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੭॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
gurmukh parchai bayd beechaaree.
The Guru’s follower who believes in Guru’s teachings, becomes knowledgeable like the one who reflects on the Vedas
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
gurmukh parchai taree-ai taaree.
By having faith in the Guru’s words, we swim across the world-ocean of vices.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਇਆਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
gurmukh parchai so sabad gi-aanee.
By having faith in the Guru, we become divinely wise,
ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਅੰਤਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
gurmukh parchai antar biDh jaanee.
and by having faith in the Guru, we come to know about our inner self.
ਤੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh paa-ee-ai alakh apaar.
By following Guru’s teachings we realize the incomprehensible and limitless God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨੮॥
naanak gurmukh mukat du-aar. ||28||
O’ Nanak, we find the way to liberation from vices through the Guru. ||28||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੮॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh akath kathai beechaar.
The Guru’s follower describes the virtues of the indescribable God by reflecting on the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਸਪਰਵਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh nibhai saparvaar.
A Guru’s follower lives righteously and achieves the life’s objective while living as a family man.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਘਰਬਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ) ਪੁੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
gurmukh japee-ai antar pi-aar.
A Guru’s follower knows that God should be remembered with love in the heart.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਪ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਚਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh paa-ee-ai sabad achaar.
A Guru’s follower is blessed with pious conduct by acting on the Guru’s word.
ਤੇ ਗੁਰਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਚਰਣ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣਾਈ ॥
sabad bhayd jaanai jaanaa-ee.
By being convinced about the truth in the Guru’s teachings, a Guru’s follower realizes God and inspires others to know Him.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰੋ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨੯॥
naanak ha-umai jaal samaa-ee. ||29||
O Nanak, one merges in God by burning away his ego. ||29||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੯॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਜੀ ॥
gurmukh Dhartee saachai saajee.
A Guru’s follower knows that God has created this earth;
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜਾਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਚੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ;
ਤਿਸ ਮਹਿ ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਸੁ ਬਾਜੀ ॥
tis meh opat khapat so baajee.
on which He sets in motion the game of creation and destruction.
ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਸ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਤਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ) ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ;
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਪੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
gur kai sabad rapai rang laa-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, when one is imbued with the love of the eternal God,
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
saach rata-o pat si-o ghar jaa-ay.
then being attuned to God, he goes to his eternal home with honor.
ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
saach sabad bin pat nahee paavai.
But without reflecting on the Guru’s divine word, one does not get honored in God’s presence.
ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩੦॥
naanak bin naavai ki-o saach samaavai. ||30||
O’ Nanak, how can one merge in God without meditating on God’s Name? ||30||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਮਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੩੦॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧੀ ਸਭਿ ਬੁਧੀ ॥
gurmukh asat siDhee sabh buDhee.
Following the Guru’s teachings is same as achieving the eight miraculous powers and all kinds of wisdom.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਠੇ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਕਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਚ ਸੁਧੀ ॥
gurmukh bhavjal taree-ai sach suDhee.
By becoming a Guru’s follower, we gain true understanding and swim across the dreadful worldly ocean of vices.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਮੱਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਰ ਅਪਸਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
gurmukh sar apsar biDh jaanai.
A Guru’s follower knows the way to act both in good and bad circumstances,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਸਮੇ ਦਾ ਹਾਲਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
gurmukh parvirat narvirat pachhaanai.
and Guru’s follower recognizes what to grasp and what to let go.
ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੀਹ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੀਹ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh taaray paar utaaray.
The Guru’s follower ferries others across the world ocean of vices.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਰਲੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩੧॥
naanak gurmukh sabad nistaaray. ||31||
O’ Nanak, a Guru’s follower ferries many others across the world ocean of vices through the Guru’s word. ||31||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਤਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩੧॥
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
naamay raatay ha-umai jaa-ay.
One who is attuned to God’s Name, his ego vanishes.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
naam ratay sach rahay samaa-ay.
Those who are imbued with the love of God’s Name, remain absorbed in Him
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
naam ratay jog jugat beechaar.
Those who are imbued with Naam, know the way of yoga (union with God) and the right understanding about it.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜੋਗ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤੇ ਸਹੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
naam ratay paavahi mokh du-aar.
Those who are imbued with Naam, find the way to liberation from vices.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam ratay taribhavan sojhee ho-ay.
Those who are imbued with Naam, gain understanding about the three worlds.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩੨॥
naanak naam ratay sadaa sukh ho-ay. ||32||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with God’s Name, always find peace. ||32||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩੨॥
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਿਧ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam ratay siDh gosat ho-ay.
The true Sidh Goashti (conversation with the adepts) takes place when the participants are imbued with Naam.
ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਚਰਚਾ ਸਫ਼ਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਤਪੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam ratay sadaa tap ho-ay.
Being imbued with God’s Name is the true penance.
ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
naam ratay sach karnee saar.
Being imbued with Naam in itself is a truthful and sublime deed.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਹੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਤੇ ਉੱਤਮ ਕਰਣੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
naam ratay gun gi-aan beechaar.
While being imbued with Naam, one comes to know God’s virtues and wisdom.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ॥
bin naavai bolai sabh vaykaar.
Except for Naam, whatever one speaks is all useless.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥੩੩॥
naanak naam ratay tin ka-o jaikaar. ||33||
O’ Nanak! I applaud those who are imbued with the love for God’s Name. ||33||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਾਡੀ) ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੩੩॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
pooray gur tay naam paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
God’s Name is received only from the perfect Guru.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
jog jugat sach rahai samaa-ay.
To remain merged in the eternal God is the true way to unite with God (yoga).
ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿਣਾ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲ) ਜੋਗ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ।
ਬਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਭਰਮਾਏ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਛਿਅ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
baarah meh jogee bharmaa-ay sani-aasee chhi-a chaar.
But the yogis are lost in their twelve branches, and the ascetics in their ten sects.
ਪਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰਕਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਅਸਲ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੇ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸ ਫ਼ਿਰਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
gur kai sabad jo mar jeevai so paa-ay mokh du-aar.
One who, through the Guru’s word, subdues his worldly desires while still alive, finds the way to liberation from vices.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
