ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥
sahj samaaDh Dhun gahir gambheeraa.
Such a person remains in a state of spiritual poise and meditation, and is deep and profound.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ l
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾਮ ॥
sadaa mukat taa kay pooray kaam.
That person is liberated forever from worldly bonds and all his endeavors are fruitfully concluded,
ਸਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੨॥
jaa kai ridai vasai har naam. ||2||
in whose heart God’s Name becomes manifest. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਅਰੋਗ ॥
sagal sookh aanand arog.
(O’ my friends, that person) enjoys all comforts, total bliss and is free from afflictions of the mind,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਨਸਕ) ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥
samadrasee pooran nirjog.
He looks upon all impartially and remains completely detached from the materialistic world.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ) ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਡੋਲੈ ਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
aa-ay na jaa-ay dolai kat naahee.
That person does not fall into the cycle of birth and death and never wavers from righteous deeds,
ਉਹ ਕਿਤੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕਿਤੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
jaa kai naam basai man maahee. ||3||
in whose mind God’s Name becomes manifests. ||3|
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ॥
deen da-i-aal gopaal govind.
God is Merciful to the oppressed and Master of the entire universe,
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਇਆਵਾਨ, ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਲ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਉਤਰੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥
gurmukh japee-ai utrai chind.
by following the Guru’s teachings, all worries are eliminated for the one who meditates on God’s name.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
naanak ka-o gur dee-aa naam.
The Guru has blessed me, Nanak, with God’s Name,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੬॥
santan kee tahal sant kaa kaam. ||4||15||26||
the service of the holy saints, is indeed the task assigned by the Guru. ||4||15||26||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ (ਦੱਸਿਆ) ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੬॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਉ ॥
beej mantar har keertan gaa-o.
O, brother, sing praises of God which is the prime mantra of all.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਮੰਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੁਨਿਆਦ ਹੈ।
ਆਗੈ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥
aagai milee nithaavay thaa-o.
(By singing praises) even the shelterless find abode in the world hereafter.
(ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਆਸਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
gur pooray kee charnee laag.
So keep following the teachings of the perfect Guru,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
janam janam kaa so-i-aa jaag. ||1||
Thus you would awaken from the slumber (in the love of Maya) of several births. ||1||
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਗ ਪਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਲਾ ॥
har har jaap japlaa.
The one who meditates on God’s Name,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਿਆ,
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਾਸੈ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kirpaa tay hirdai vaasai bha-ojal paar parlaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
by Guru’s grace God manifestes in his heart and he crosses over the world-ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਅਟਲ ॥
naam niDhaan Dhi-aa-ay man atal.
O’ mind, keep meditating on the eternal treasure of God’s Name,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ,
ਤਾ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਪਟਲ ॥
taa chhooteh maa-i-aa kay patal.
only then the curtain of Maya (materialistic world) shall be torn away.
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੇ ਪੜਦੇ ਪਾਟਣਗੇ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਉ ॥
gur kaa sabad amrit ras pee-o.
(O’ my mind) keep drinking the ambrosial nectar of the Guru’s divine word,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ,
ਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
taa tayraa ho-ay nirmal jee-o. ||2||
only then your soul shall be rendered immaculate. ||2||
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ॥੨॥
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
soDhat soDhat soDh beechaaraa.
(O’ my mind), after repeatedly scrutinizing and reflecting, I have arrived at the conclusion,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਅਸਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥
bin har bhagat nahee chhutkaaraa.
that without the devotional worship of God, there is no escape from the love for worldly attachments.
ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
so har bhajan saaDh kai sang.
(That) devotional worship of God is only attained in the company of the saints.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
man tan raapai har kai rang. ||3||
and his mind and body get imbued with God’s love. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਛੋਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
chhod si-aanap baho chaturaa-ee.
(O’ my mind), renounce all your worldly wisdom and cleverness.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸਿਆਣਪ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
ਮਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
man bin har naavai jaa-ay na kaa-ee.
O’ mind, without meditating on God’s Name, one does not attain any place (in God’s presence).
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਗੋੁਸਾਈ ॥
da-i-aa Dhaaree govid gosaa-ee.
The person on whom God – the Master has shown mercy,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੭॥
har har naanak tayk tikaa-ee. ||4||16||27||
O’ Nanak, that person seeks protection and support of God’s Name. ||4||16||27||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੭॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਕੇਲ ॥
sant kai sang raam rang kayl.
In Guru’s company, lovingly enjoy the God’s worldly play,
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਆਗੈ ਜਮ ਸਿਉ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲ ॥
aagai jam si-o ho-ay na mayl.
and you will not have to deal with the demon of death hereafter.
ਅਗਾਂਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਏਗਾ।
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
ahaN-buDh kaa bha-i-aa binaas.
Your egotistical intellect shall be dispelled,
ਤੇਰੀ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਊਗੀ,
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਗਲੀ ਨਾਸ ॥੧॥
durmat ho-ee saglee naas. ||1||
and your evil-mindedness will be totally taken away. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ।॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥
raam naam gun gaa-ay pandit.
O’ Pundit, sing the glorious praises of God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ,
ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕਾਜੈ ਕੁਸਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karam kaaNd ahaNkaar na kaajai kusal saytee ghar jaahi pandit. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ Pandit, Religious rituals and egotism are of no use at all; only by singing praises of God, you would go to your eternal home with true inner happiness.||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਲਸਿਲੇ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ। (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ (ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਸਲ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚੇਂਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਜਸੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਲੀਆ ਲਾਭ ॥
har kaa jas niDh lee-aa laabh.
(O’ Pundit), the person who has found the treasure of God’s praises,
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ,
ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਾਭ ॥
pooran bha-ay manorath saabh.
all his mind’s spiritual ambitions got accomplished.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ,
ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
dukh naathaa sukh ghar meh aa-i-aa.
All his sufferings have fled away and eternal peace has come to reside in his heart.
ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
sant parsaad kamal bigsaa-i-aa. ||2||
and by the grace of the saint Guru, his heart-lotus has blossomed. ||2||
ਸੰਤ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
naam ratan jin paa-i-aa daan.
(O’ Pundit), the person who is blessed with the charity of the jewel-like God’s Name,
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਤੂੰ ਜਜਮਾਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਦਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਹੋਏ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
tis jan ho-ay sagal niDhaan.
he feels as if he has received all the treasures of the world.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ।
ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਆਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
santokh aa-i-aa man pooraa paa-ay.
His mind becomes fully content having realized the perfect God.
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਾਗਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
fir fir maagan kaahay jaa-ay. ||3||
Then why would he ever go begging again? ||3||
ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ (ਜਜਮਾਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਿਉਂ ਮੰਗਣ ਜਾਇਗਾ? ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਤ ਪਵਿਤ ॥
har kee kathaa sunat pavit.
(O’ Pundit), by listening to God’s praises, one becomes pure and immaculate.
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ (ਜੀਵਨ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਬਕਤ ਪਾਈ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ॥
jihvaa bakat paa-ee gat mat.
One attains supreme spiritual state and sublime wisdom by Reciting Naam with his tongue.
ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਅਤੇ (ਸੁਚੱਜੀ) ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
so parvaan jis ridai vasaa-ee.
(O’ Pundit), the one who by Guru’s blessings enshrines God in his heart, gets accepted in His presence.
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਵਸਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਊਤਮ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੮॥
naanak tay jan ootam bhaa-ee. ||4||17||28||
O’ Nanak, say, O’ brother, such a humble being is spiritually exalted. ||4||17||28||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੮॥
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਗਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਕਰੀ ਨ ਆਈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
gahu kar pakree na aa-ee haath.
(O’ saintly persons), even when someone held on to Maya very carefully, still it did not come under his control.
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ) ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਫੜਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਆਈ।
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਚਾਲੀ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
pareet karee chaalee nahee saath.
No matter how much one may love it, it does not go along.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਨਾਲ) ਬੜਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਭੀ ਪਾਇਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਨਾ ਤੁਰੀ (ਸਾਥ ਨਾਹ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਸਕੀ)।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਉ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਦਈ ॥
kaho naanak ja-o ti-aag da-ee.
Nanak says, when someone completely got detached from it,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਨੋਂ) ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਤਬ ਓਹ ਚਰਣੀ ਆਇ ਪਈ ॥੧॥
tab oh charnee aa-ay pa-ee. ||1||
then it came back and became subservient to him. ||1||
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਆ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪੈ ਗਈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥

O’ saints, listen to this immaculate philosophy:
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸੁਣੋ-
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam bin gat nahee kaa-ee gur pooraa bhaytat uDhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The sublime spiritual state is not attained without lovingly remembering God’s Name; one is saved from the clutches of Maya only by meeting and following the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
