ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਅ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਸਿੰਚੇ ਮਾਇ ॥
taritee-a bivasthaa sinchay maa-ay.
In the third stage of life,one gets busy amassing worldly wealth.
(ਜਵਾਨੀ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ) ਤੀਜੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੨॥
biraDh bha-i-aa chhod chali-o pachhutaa-ay. ||2||
And finally on growing old, he departs from this world in total regret leaving behind the amassed wealth. ||2||
(ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜਦੋਂ) ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਕਰਦਾ (ਜੋੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਮਾਇਆ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਪਾਈ ਦ੍ਰੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ॥
chirankaal paa-ee darulabh dayh.
After a very long time (having gone through many births), one is blessed with hard-to-obtain precious human body,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਬੜੇ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਖੇਹ ॥
naam bihoonee ho-ee khayh.
But without Naam, human body turns into dust.
ਪਰ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇ ਬੁਰੀ ॥
pasoo parayt mugaDh tay buree.
Without Naam, this human body is worse than an animal, a ghost, and a fool.
(ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮੂਰਖ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਤੇ ਪਰੇਤਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਭੈੜੀ (ਸਮਝੋ)।
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਸਿਰੀ ॥੩॥
tiseh na boojhai jin ayh siree. ||3||
The human being does not remember the very God who created him. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਦੇਹੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

O’ the Creator, Master, and Sustainer of the universe, listen to my submission
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੋ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸਰਵਣ ਕਰ
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
deen da-i-aal sadaa kirpaal.
O’ Merciful to the oppressed, forever compassionate
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ!
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਛਡਾਵਹੁ ਛੁਟਕਹਿ ਬੰਧ ॥
tumeh chhadaavahu chhutkahi banDh.
Only if You liberate us, can we be freed of the worldly bonds.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਟੁੱਟ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗ ਅੰਧ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥
bakhas milaavhu naanak jag anDh. ||4||12||23||
Nanak prays: O’ God, please forgive the ignorant world (blinded with worldly attachments), and keep it united with Yourself. ||4||12||23||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ,ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਬਨਾਈ ਕਾਛਿ ॥
kar sanjog banaa-ee kaachh.
Just as a tailor stitches a robe for the body, similarly God has fashioned the human beings by uniting the body and the soul.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਦਰਜ਼ੀ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਮਾਪ ਕਤਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਮੀਜ਼ ਆਦਿਕ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ) ਮਿਲਾਪ (ਦਾ ਅਵਸਰ) ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-ਚੋਲੀ) ਕੱਛ ਕੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਇਆਨਾ ਰਾਚਿ ॥
tis sang rahi-o i-aanaa raach.
The ignorant being is fully engrossed in this body itself,
ਉਸ (ਸਰੀਰ-ਚੋਲੀ) ਨਾਲ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥
partipaarai nit saar samaarai.
and he consistently nourishes and safeguards it.
ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਪੋਸਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਭ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
ant kee baar ooth siDhaarai. ||1||
But in the end, he departs (leaving behind the body he adored so dearly) ||1||
ਅੰਤ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਜੀਵ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਉੱਠ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
naam binaa sabh jhooth paraanee.
O’ mortal, except Naam, everything else is perishable
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
govid bhajan bin avar sang raatay tay sabh maa-i-aa mooth paraanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
All those engrossed in activities other than meditating on God’s Name, are betrayed by the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਜਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ਨ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
tirath naa-ay na utras mail.
By bathing at pilgrimage places, the filth of the worldly attachments is not washed off.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਮੈਲ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰੇਗੀ।
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਫੈਲੁ ॥
karam Dharam sabh ha-umai fail.
All the rituals and righteous deeds are nothing, but the egotistical showoffs.
(ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਲੋਕ ਪਚਾਰੈ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
lok pachaarai gat nahee ho-ay.
Impressing others (by these egoistic showoffs) does not take one to a higher spiritual state.
(ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਹੋਣ ਬਾਰੇ) ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਕਰਾਇਆਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੇ ਚਲਸਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
naam bihoonay chalsahi ro-ay. ||2||
Without the wealth of Naam, they shall depart from this world in regret. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਰੋ ਰੋ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਗੇ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਟੂਟਸਿ ਪਟਲ ॥
bin har naam na tootas patal.
Without Naam, the wall of worldly attachments can not be broken.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਪੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੁੱਟੇਗਾ।
ਸੋਧੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਗਲ ॥
soDhay saastar simrit sagal.
I have explored all the Shastras and Simritees (and concluded that the wall of worldly attachment does not break without Naam).
ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪੜਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੁਟੇਗਾ )।
ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਏ ॥
so naam japai jis aap japaa-ay.
He alone lovingly remembers God, whom He Himself inspires to chant.
ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਫਲਾ ਸੇ ਸੂਖਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
sagal falaa say sookh samaa-ay. ||3||
And such individuals are rewarded with all the fruits of human life and dwell in inner peace. ||3||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
raakhanhaaray raakho aap.
O’ Savior of all, please protect us (from the love of worldly attachments).
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
sagal sukhaa parabh tumrai haath.
O’ God, celestial peace and all comforts are under Your control.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jit laaveh tit laagah su-aamee.
O’ Master-God, whatever role you assign me, to that I get attached.
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੪॥
naanak saahib antarjaamee. ||4||13||24||
O’ Nanak, God is truly omniscient (all knower). ||4||13||24||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੪॥
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
jo kichh karai so-ee sukh jaanaa.
Whatever He does makes me happy.(O’ my friends, the person who is blessed with the company of saints), he feels pleasure in whatever God does.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਮਝੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
man asmajh saaDhsang patee-aanaa.
His ignorant mind is encouraged in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਪਹਿਲਾ) ਅੰਞਾਣ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਠਹਰਾਇਆ ॥
dolan tay chookaa thehraa-i-aa.
Now, his mind does not waver at all; it has become stable in God’s will,
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਡੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿ ਮਾਹਿ ਲੇ ਸਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sat maahi lay sat samaa-i-aa. ||1||
reciting the eternal God’s Name, the mind is merged in the eternal God. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਦੂਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
dookh ga-i-aa sabh rog ga-i-aa.
(Such an individual) is relieved of all the sorrows and all the ailments.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਰਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
parabh kee aagi-aa man meh maanee mahaa purakh kaa sang bha-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
(And such an individual) in the company of the Guru, whole heartedly accepts the will of God. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਗਲ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥
sagal pavitar sarab nirmalaa.
All ventures are sacred and all deeds are immaculate (for an individual blessed with the company of the Guru).
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲਾ ॥
jo vartaa-ay so-ee bhalaa.
Whatever God does is perceived all good by that person.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਭਲਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
jah raakhai so-ee mukat thaan.
Wherever God keeps him, is the place for his liberation from the vices.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਜੋ ਜਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
jo japaa-ay so-ee naam. ||2||
Whatever Almighty makes one meditate upon, is God’s Name. ||2||
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਹ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਧਰਹਿ ॥
athsath tirath jah saaDh pag Dhareh.
Wherever saints set their feet, regard that place as holy as the sixty eight places of pilgrimage.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੈਰ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਮਝੋ,
ਤਹ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੁ ਜਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰਹਿ ॥
tah baikunth jah naam uchrahi.
Because the place where saints recite Naam, is like heaven.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਸੱਚਖੰਡ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਅਨੰਦ ਜਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sarab anand jab darsan paa-ee-ai.
Absolute bliss dawns, upon seeking the blessed vision of the holy.
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
raam gunaa nit nit har gaa-ee-ai. ||3||
In the company of the holy, one can always sing God’s Glorious Praises. ||3||
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥
aapay ghat ghat rahi-aa bi-aap.
God Himself is pervading in each and every heart,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) (ਹੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਗਟ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
da-i-aal purakh pargat partaap.
and the glory of that merciful Master is prevalent everywhere.
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਤੇਜ-ਪਰਤਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਨੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਠੇ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
kapat khulaanay bharam naathay dooray.
By the Guru’s grace, mind’s closed shutters have been flung open, and all illusions have fled away.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੇ) ਕਿਵਾੜ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਸਾਰੇ ਭਰਮ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੨੫॥
naanak ka-o gur bhaytay pooray. ||4||14||25||
(Because) Nanak has been blessed with the vision of the Perfect Guru. ||4||14||25||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੨੫॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
kot jaap taap bisraam.
One is awarded the fruit of million meditations and worships,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਪਾਂ ਤਪਾਂ (ਦਾ ਫਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
riDh buDh siDh sur gi-aan.
alongwith wealth, wisdom, miraculous powers and spiritual insight;
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ (ਉੱਚੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ (ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਭੋਗ ਰਸੈ ॥
anik roop rang bhog rasai.
the inner joy like sights of unparalleled beauty, love and dainty dishes is experienced by the one,
ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥
gurmukh naam nimakh ridai vasai. ||1||
by the Guru’s grace who remembers God’s Name, even for a moment. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
har kay naam kee vadi-aa-ee.
(O’ my friends), such is the glory of God’s Name,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ (ਦੱਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ)
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
keemat kahan na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that its worth cannot be described. ||1|| Pause||
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਧੀਰਜ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
soorbeer Dheeraj mat pooraa.
(O’ my friends), such a person is truly brave (capable of combating vices), patient and possesses perfect wisdom,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਸੂਰਮਾ ਹੈ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਹੈ,
