Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਧੁਨਿ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਰਾਗੁ ਅਲਾਪੈ ॥
o-ankaar ayk Dhun aikai aikai raag alaapai.
A true devotee of God keeps his mind attuned to the one Creator, and always keeps singing His praises.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੀਆਂ ਇੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਲਗਨ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਤਰਾਨਾ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਾ ਦੇਸੀ ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਏਕੋ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
aykaa daysee ayk dikhaavai ayko rahi-aa bi-aapai.
For such a devotee, the entire world is like one country governed by the one God, and he preaches others also likewise that God is pervading everywhere.
ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਵਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਏਕਾ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਏਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥
aykaa surat aykaa hee sayvaa ayko gur tay jaapai. ||1||
He focuses his mind on God, and by following the Guru’s teachings he only remembers God with adoration. ||1|
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਲੋ ਭਲੋ ਰੇ ਕੀਰਤਨੀਆ ॥
bhalo bhalo ray keeratnee-aa.
O’ my friends, blessed and praiseworthy is such a devotee,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਓ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਐਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਾ ਰਾਮਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
raam ramaa raamaa gun gaa-o.
who sings glorious praises of the all-pervading God,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਛੋਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਧੰਧ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chhod maa-i-aa kay DhanDh su-aa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
after renouncing the pursuits of all worldly entanglements. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੰਚ ਬਜਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਤੋਖਾ ਸਾਤ ਸੁਰਾ ਲੈ ਚਾਲੈ ॥
panch baajitar karay santokhaa saat suraa lai chaalai.
He makes the five virtues (like compassion, contentment and truth etc) as his musical instruments, and remaining attuned to God, performs the worldly duties; for him it is like playing the seven musical notes.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ (ਆਦਿਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜ (ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਸਾਜ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਸਾ, ਰੇ ਆਦਿਕ) ਸੱਤ ਸੁਰਾਂ (ਦਾ ਆਲਾਪ ਹੈ)।
ਬਾਜਾ ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਤਜਿ ਤਾਨਾ ਪਾਉ ਨ ਬੀਗਾ ਘਾਲੈ ॥
baajaa maan taan taj taanaa paa-o na beegaa ghaalai.
The renunciation of pride and power are like the notes he plays on his musical instrument; he always follows the path of Guru’s teachings and does not step into an evil place.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ (ਵਜਾਣਾ) ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਰਦਾ-ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਨ-ਪਲਟਾ (ਆਲਾਪ) ਹੈ।
ਫੇਰੀ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੰਧਿ ਪਾਲੈ ॥੨॥
fayree fayr na hovai kab hee ayk sabad banDh paalai. ||2||
Since he keeps the Guru’s teachings embedded in his heart, he does not enter the cycle of birth & death ever again. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਦੇ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ-ਇਹੀ (ਰਾਸ ਪਾਣ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਾਚ-ਭੁਆਂਟਣੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਰਦੀ ਨਰਹਰ ਜਾਣਿ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥
naardee narhar jaan hadooray.
O’ my friends, a true devotee always deems God in his presence as if it is Narad (an angle) performing the devotional dance.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਾਰਦ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਚ।
ਘੂੰਘਰ ਖੜਕੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥
ghoongar kharhak ti-aag visooray.
For him, tinkling of the ankle bells is like shedding all sorrows and worries.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਝੋਰੇ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਘੂੰਘਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਛਣਕਾਰ।
ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
sahj anand dikhaavai bhaavai.
His facial expressions show that he is in a state of equipoise.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਹ) ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਲੋਲ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਹੁ ਨਿਰਤਿਕਾਰੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੩॥
ayhu nirtikaaree janam na aavai. ||3||
Such a dancer does not go through the cycle of birth and death again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
jay ko apnay thaakur bhaavai.
O’ my friends, only a rare one becomes pleasing to God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧਿ ਏਹੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
kot maDh ayhu keertan gaavai.
that one person out of a million sings these praises of God.
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਜਾਵਉ ਟੇਕ ॥
saaDhsangat kee jaava-o tayk.
I take the support of the congregation of the saintly persons.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਏਕ ॥੪॥੮॥
kaho naanak tis keertan ayk. ||4||8||
Nanak says, there they sing the praises of God alone. ||4||8||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਉਹ ਓਥੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ॥੪॥੮॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਕੋਈ ਬੋਲੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਕੋਈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥
ko-ee bolai raam raam ko-ee khudaa-ay.
O’ my friends, some remember God repeatedly as Raam, Raam, and some as Khudaa.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ‘ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ’ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ‘ਖ਼ੁਦਾਇ, ਖ਼ੁਦਾਇ’ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਸੇਵੈ ਗੁਸਈਆ ਕੋਈ ਅਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
ko-ee sayvai gus-ee-aa ko-ee alaahi. ||1||
Some worship Him as Gusaaeen, while others worship Him as Allah. ||1||
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ‘ਗੋਸਾਈਂ’ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ‘ਅੱਲਾ’ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮ ॥
kaaran karan kareem.
The gracious God is the cause of all causes.
ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕਾਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹੀਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kirpaa Dhaar raheem. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He is merciful, kind and gracious. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੋਈ ਨਾਵੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਕੋਈ ਹਜ ਜਾਇ ॥
ko-ee naavai tirath ko-ee haj jaa-ay.
O’ my friends, some people (Hindus) bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, while some (Muslims) go on pilgrimage to Mecca.||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੱਕੇ) ਹੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਿਵਾਇ ॥੨॥
ko-ee karai poojaa ko-ee sir nivaa-ay. ||2||
Some worship idols, while some bow their heads in prayer toward Mecca. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਬੇਦ ਕੋਈ ਕਤੇਬ ॥
ko-ee parhai bayd ko-ee katayb.
Some read the Vedas, while some read the Koran.
ਕੋਈ (ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ) ਕੁਰਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਓਢੈ ਨੀਲ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਪੇਦ ॥੩॥
ko-ee odhai neel ko-ee supayd. ||3||
Some (Muslims) wear blue clothes, while some (Hindus) wear white. ||3||
ਕੋਈ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਨੀਲੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ (ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਚਿੱਟੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ਤੁਰਕੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ਹਿੰਦੂ ॥
ko-ee kahai turak ko-ee kahai hindoo.
Some call themselves Muslims, and some call themselves Hindus.
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ‘ਮੈਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਹਾਂ’, ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ‘ਮੈਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਹਾਂ’।
ਕੋਈ ਬਾਛੈ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਰਗਿੰਦੂ ॥੪॥
ko-ee baachhai bhisat ko-ee surgindoo. ||4||
Some yearn for paradise, and others long for heaven. ||4||
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਸੁਰਗ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
kaho naanak jin hukam pachhaataa.
Says Nanak, only the one who has realized the will of God,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੫॥੯॥
parabh saahib kaa tin bhayd jaataa. ||5||9||
comes to know the mystery of his Master-God. ||5||9||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ॥੫॥੯॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਪਵਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਵਨੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
pavnai meh pavan samaa-i-aa.
O’ my friends, upon a person’s death his air (breath) merges into the air (atmosphere).
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ-ਤੱਤੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸੁਆਸ ਹਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
jotee meh jot ral jaa-i-aa.
and his soul merges in the prime soul.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ (ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ) ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਰਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਟੀ ਮਾਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਏਕ ॥
maatee maatee ho-ee ayk.
The dust (the body) gets consumed into the dust (earth).
(ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਕਵਨ ਟੇਕ ॥੧॥
rovanhaaray kee kavan tayk. ||1||
What support is there for the one who is grieving? ||1||
ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ ਏਥੇ ਸਥਿਰ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥
ਕਉਨੁ ਮੂਆ ਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ਮੂਆ ॥
ka-un moo-aa ray ka-un moo-aa.
O brother, who has died, yes who has really died?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੌਣ ਮੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕੌਣ ਮੋਇਆ ਹੈ.?
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਉ ਚਲਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
barahm gi-aanee mil karahu beechaaraa ih ta-o chalat bha-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o
O’ divine scholars, get together and reflect about it; this is God’s play which has happened. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਤਿਓ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚੋ, ਵੀਚਾਰੋ!! ਇਹ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਲੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
aglee kichh khabar na paa-ee.
No one has a clue what will happen to him after death.
ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਅੱਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਭਿ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥
rovanhaar bhe ooth siDhaa-ee.
Even the one who is grieving will also depart from here.
ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਹੁਣ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਤੇ) ਰੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਇਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਬੰਧ ॥
bharam moh kay baaNDhay banDh.
O’ my friends, all mortal beings are bound by the bonds of worldly illusions and attachments.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਭਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਸੁਪਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਭਖਲਾਏ ਅੰਧ ॥੨॥
supan bha-i-aa bhakhlaa-ay anDh. ||2||
The union of body and soul is like a dream in which the ignorant mortal babbles and grieves in vain.||2||
(ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਸੁਪਨਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ) ਬਰੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਇਹੁ ਤਉ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
ih ta-o rachan rachi-aa kartaar.
O’ my friends, this is a play created by the Creator-God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਵਤ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
aavat jaavat hukam apaar.
It is subject to the will of the infinite God that the creatures come and depart from this world.
ਕਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਇਥੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਹ ਕੋ ਮੂਆ ਨ ਮਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
nah ko moo-aa na marnai jog.
No one (soul) ever dies, nor one is even capable of dying.
ਉਂਞ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਮਰਨ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਹ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੩॥
nah binsai abhinaasee hog. ||3||
The soul does not perish because it is imperishable. ||3||
ਇਹ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲਾ ਜੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਸੋ ਇਹੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jo ih jaanhu so ih naahi.
O’ my friends, this soul is not like what you think of it.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ ਇਸ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸਮਝ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ, ਇਹ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰੇ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jaananhaaray ka-o bal jaa-o.
I am dedicated to the one who understands the reality of the soul.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak gur bharam chukaa-i-aa.
Says Nanak, the Guru has dispelled my this doubt that,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
naa ko-ee marai na aavai jaa-i-aa. ||4||10||
the soul does not die and does not get in the cycle of birth and death. ||4||10||
ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਜਪਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਲਾਲੁ ॥
jap gobind gopaal laal.
O’ my friends, meditate on the loving God of the universe.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੋਬਿੰਦ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤੂ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਖਾਈ ਮਹਾ ਕਾਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam simar too jeeveh fir na khaa-ee mahaa kaal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By meditating on God’s Name, you would spiritually remain alive and the fear of death would not devour you ever again. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਨਾਲ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਭਿਆਨਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ (ਤੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੇਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
kot janam bharam bharam bharam aa-i-o.
You have already wandered through myriads of incarnations.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ (ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ,
