mil mil sakhee gun kaho mayray parabh kay lay satgur kee mat Dheer. ||3||
O’ my friend! after attaining the comforting teachings of the true Guru, you should also meet me and relate to me the virtues of my loving God. ||3||
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਕਰ ॥੩॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh kartaa sabh bhugtaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ brother! It is God who creates everything and it is He, who enjoys everything (by being in everybody). ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਹੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੁਨਤੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੇਖਤ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
sunto kartaa paykhat kartaa.
The Creator hears everything, and also beholds everything (by being in everybody).
(ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੋ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
adristo kartaa daristo kartaa.
Whatever is visible, is a form of the Creator, and whatever is invisible, is also the image of the Creator.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਨਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ।
ਓਪਤਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਪਰਲਉ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
opat kartaa parla-o kartaa.
The Creator creates the entire world, as well as destroys it.
(ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ) ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ (ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੧॥
bi-aapat kartaa alipato kartaa. ||1||
The creator is pervading in all and yet He is detached. ||1||
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਕਤੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਬੂਝਤ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
bakto kartaa boojhat kartaa.
The Creator is the One who speaks ( through everyone), and He is the One who understands (through everyone).
(ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਤੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਾਤੁ ਭੀ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
aavat kartaa jaat bhee kartaa.
It is the Creator who comes into this world, and it is He, who goes from here.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਰਗੁਨ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
nirgun kartaa sargun kartaa.
The Creator is without any qualities of Maya, and He, also has all the qualities of Maya (by being in all).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਭੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਭੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾ ॥੨॥੧॥
gur parsaad naanak samdristaa. ||2||1||
O’ Nanak, it is by Guru’s grace, that one is able to see God pervading in all. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

ਫਾਕਿਓ ਮੀਨ ਕਪਿਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਤੂ ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕੁਸੰਭਾਇਲੇ ॥
faaki-o meen kapik kee ni-aa-ee too urajh rahi-o kusambhaa-ilay.
O’ my mind, you are engrossed in short lived worldly pleasures, like the fading color of a safflower, infatuation of fish with taste and greed of a monkey for a fistful of grains.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ (ਵਾਂਗ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਉਲਝਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮੱਛੀ ਅਤੇ (ਛੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਬਾਂਦਰ।
ਪਗ ਧਾਰਹਿ ਸਾਸੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਲੈ ਤਉ ਉਧਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਲੇ ॥੧॥
pag Dhaareh saas laykhai lai ta-o uDhrahi har gun gaa-ilay. ||1||
Every deed you perform and every breath you take (when you are engrossed in Maya), you have to give its account. O’ my mind, you can only be liberated from vices if you sing praises of God! ||1||
(ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ) ਕਦਮ ਤੂੰ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ) ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ (ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਸਮਝੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਆਵਾਇਲੇ ॥
man samajh chhod aavaa-ilay.
O’ my mind, wake up and forsake your aimless wandering!
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਹੋਸ਼ ਕਰ, ਅਵੈੜਾ-ਪਨ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
ਅਪਨੇ ਰਹਨ ਕਉ ਠਉਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਏ ਪਰ ਕੈ ਜਾਇਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
apnay rahan ka-o tha-ur na paavahi kaa-ay par kai jaa-ilay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Why do you look towards others’ wealth when for yourself, you can’t even find a permanent place to live in this world? ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਇਥੇ) ਪੱਕਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ। ਫਿਰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਉ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਓ ਤੂ ਲਾਗਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਕੁਟੰਬਾਇਲੇ ॥
ji-o maigal indree ras parayri-o too laag pari-o kutambaa-ilay.
O’ my mind, just as an elephant is driven by its desire for lust (and gets caught), just like that, you have fallen for affinity with your family.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਈ ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਤੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਿਉ ਪੰਖੀ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਇ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਿਛੁਰੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਲੇ ॥੨॥
ji-o pankhee ikatar ho-ay fir bichhurai thir sangat har har Dhi-aa-ilay. ||2||
The family members are like the birds who get together at night, and separate from one another in the morning; in order to get the permanent abode, you should lovingly meditate on God in the company of holy congregation. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਕਿ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੰਛੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਰਾਤ ਕੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਤੇ) ਫਿਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਪੰਛੀ ਵਿਛੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਛੜ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ)। ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ॥੨॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਮੀਨੁ ਰਸਨ ਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਓਹੁ ਮੂਠੌ ਮੂੜ ਲੋਭਾਇਲੇ ॥
jaisay meen rasan saad binsi-o oh moothou moorh lobhaa-ilay.
O’ my mind! Just as a fish is ruined by its love for taste, similarly a foolish person is deceived by his greed.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛ ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਭ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤੂ ਹੋਆ ਪੰਚ ਵਾਸਿ ਵੈਰੀ ਕੈ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਪਰੁ ਸਰਨਾਇਲੇ ॥੩॥
too ho-aa panch vaas vairee kai chhooteh par sarnaa-ilay. ||3||
You have fallen in the clutches of five enemies (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego); you can escape from them only by taking refuge in God. ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਭੀ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਨਿਕਲੇਂਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤਾਇਲੇ ॥
hohu kirpaal deen dukh bhanjan sabh tumHray jee-a jantaa-ilay.
O’ the destroyer of sorrows, please show mercy; all these creatures and beings are Your creation.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ। ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ।
ਪਾਵਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇਲੇ ॥੪॥੨॥
paava-o daan sadaa daras paykhaa mil naanak daas dasaa-ilay. ||4||2||
O’ Nanak, says, O’ God! I am a devotee of Your devotees; may I get the gift of seeing Your blessed vision; please come and meet me. ||4||2||

ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ,
ਮਾਟੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਖੀ ਨਿਵਾਜਿ ॥
maatee meh jot rakhee nivaaj.
God blessed you by infusing His light in the earthen vessel of your body,
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਬਰਤਨ ਕਉ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਭੋਜਨ ਭੋਗਾਇ ॥
bartan ka-o sabh kichh bhojan bhogaa-ay.
gave you everything for your use, and then fed you many different kinds of foods;
ਵਰਤਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਜਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਕਤ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
so parabh taj moorhay kat jaa-ay. ||1||
O’ fool, where are you wandering around forsaking that God? ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਉ ਸੇਵ ॥
paarbarahm kee laaga-o sayv.
O’ brother, I want to commit myself to the loving devotional worship of the all pervading God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਝੈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur tay sujhai niranjan dayv. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but it is only through the Guru that one can understand the immaculate God. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਰੰਗ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥
jin kee-ay rang anik parkaar.
O’ my mind, He who has created many different kinds of colors and forms,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ (-ਰੂਪ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਓਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਝਾਰ ॥
opat parla-o nimakh majhaar.
Who can destroy His creation in an instant,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
jaa kee gat mit kahee na jaa-ay.
Whose spiritual state and extent cannot be described,
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਬਤ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨॥
so parabh man mayray sadaa Dhi-aa-ay. ||2||
O’ my mind, meditate sincerely and forever on that God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੨॥
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਧਨੀ ॥
aa-ay na jaavai nihchal Dhanee.
That eternal Master-God neither comes in this world nor does He go from here.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਨਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਕ ਗਨੀ ॥
bay-ant gunaa taa kay kaytak ganee.
His glorious virtues are infinite; how many of them can I count?
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਣਾਂ? ਉਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
