ਜੋਗ ਜਗ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਨਉ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਸੁ ਬਿਸਰਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
jog jag nihfal tih maan-o jo parabh jas bisraavai. ||1||
One forsakes singing praises of God, deem all his yogic efforts and sacrificial feasts as fruitless ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੰਨ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੱਗ ਸਭ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਦੋਨੋ ਕਉ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
maan moh dono ka-o parhar gobind kay gun gaavai.
One who lays aside both ego and undue love for worldly attachment and sings the praises of God;
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੨॥
kaho naanak ih biDh ko paraanee jeevan mukat kahaavai. ||2||2||
Nanak says by doing this, that person is said to be liberated from the vices while yet alive. ||2||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮੁਕਤਿ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥

Raag Bilaaval, Ninth Guru:
ਜਾ ਮੈ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jaa mai bhajan raam ko naahee.
One who does not remember God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਹ ਨਰ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇਆ ਯਹ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tih nar janam akaarath kho-i-aa yeh raakho man maahee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
keep this in mind, that person has wasted away the precious human life in vain. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਪੱਕੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖੋ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰੈ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਹ ਮਨੂਆ ਬਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੋ ॥
tirath karai barat fun raakhai nah manoo-aa bas jaa ko.
One whose mind is not under his control, even if he goes on pilgrimages and observes many fasts,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਵਰਤ ਭੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਹਫਲ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਤ ਮੈ ਯਾ ਕਉ ॥੧॥
nihfal Dharam taahi tum maanhu saach kahat mai yaa ka-o. ||1||
consider such religious deeds useless and I say this truth even to that person. ||1||
ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਸਮਝੋ। ਮੈਂ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਹਨੁ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਭੇਦੈ ਨਾਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਨੀ ॥
jaisay paahan jal meh raakhi-o bhaydai naahi tih paanee.
Just as water does not pierce or softens a stone kept in water,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਤਾਹਿ ਪਛਾਨਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੀਨ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
taisay hee tum taahi pachhaanahu bhagat heen jo paraanee. ||2||
similarly consider that person like a stone who lacks devotional worship. ||2||
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਤੁਸੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਲ ਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਤ ਗੁਰੁ ਯਹ ਭੇਦੁ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥
kal mai mukat naam tay paavat gur yeh bhayd bataavai.
The Guru tells this secret, that in Kal Jug (present age), one receives liberation from the vices only through Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹ ਰਾਜ਼ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਈ ਨਰੁ ਗਰੂਆ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੩॥੩॥
kaho naanak so-ee nar garoo-aa jo parabh kay gun gaavai. ||3||3||
Nanak says, he alone is worthy of honor who sings the praises of God. ||3||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਦਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੩॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
nikat vasai daykhai sabh so-ee.
God dwells very near (within) us and cherishes us all,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gurmukh virlaa boojhai ko-ee.
but only a very rare Guru’s follower realizes this truth.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਣੁ ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
vin bhai pa-i-ai bhagat na ho-ee.
Devotional worship of God cannot be performed without having His revered fear.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
sabad ratay sadaa sukh ho-ee. ||1||
Those people who are imbued with Naam through the Guru’s divine word, always live in celestial peace. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
aisaa gi-aan padaarath naam.
Such is the spiritual wisdom and the wealth of Naam;
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh paavas ras ras maan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
the Guru’s follower who receives Naam and always recites it delightfully, and is honored (both here and hereafter). ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਇਹ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
gi-aan gi-aan kathai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone talks about spiritual wisdom and spiritual knowledge.
ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਗਿਆਨ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
kath kath baad karay dukh ho-ee.
and by doing so, one enters into arguments and becomes miserable.
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ) ਆਖ ਕੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਚਰਚਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
kath kahnai tay rahai na ko-ee.
One neither desists from talking and discussing about one’s knowledge,
ਇਸ ਗਿਆਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਹਟਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
bin ras raatay mukat na ho-ee. ||2||
and nor does he realize that liberation from vices cannot be received without being imbued with the elixir of God’s Name. ||2||
ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan sabh gur tay ho-ee.
Spiritual wisdom about God and the way to attune Him is received through the Guru’s teachings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਉ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਰਹਤ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
saachee rahat saachaa man so-ee.
One who lives a truthful life, realizes God dwelling within his mind.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੈ ਪਰੁ ਰਹਤ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
manmukh kathnee hai par rahat na ho-ee.
The self-willed person talks about spiritual wisdom, but does not practice it.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਖੁਦ ਅਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਥਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥
naavhu bhoolay thaa-o na ko-ee. ||3||
Being strayed from God’s Name, he finds no place of rest or peace. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧਿਓ ਸਰ ਜਾਲਿ ॥
man maa-i-aa banDhi-o sar jaal.
The worldly riches have pinned down one’s mind with the arrows of love for it.
ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਤੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
ghat ghat bi-aap rahi-o bikh naal.
Even though God is enshrined in each and every heart, yet everybody is afflicted with Maya which is like a poison for spiritual life.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਭੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਆਂਜੈ ਸੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਕਾਲਿ ॥
jo aaNjai so deesai kaal.
Whosoever comes to this world, seems to be in the grip of spiritual death.
ਜੋ ਭੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੀਧੋ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥੪॥
kaaraj seeDho ridai samHaal. ||4||
The task of achieving the purpose of human life is accomplished only by always remembering and enshrining God’s Name in the heart. ||4||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
so gi-aanee jin sabad liv laa-ee.
He alone is spiritually wise, who has attuned himself to God through the Guru’s divine word.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਿਆਨ-ਵਾਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
manmukh ha-umai pat gavaa-ee.
Because of egotism, the self-willed person loses his honor.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
aapay kartai bhagat karaa-ee.
The Creator-God Himself inspires people to His devotional worship,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੫॥
gurmukh aapay day vadi-aa-ee. ||5||
and He Himself blesses them with glory through the Guru’s teachings. ||5||
ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ॥
rain anDhaaree nirmal jot.
Generally one lives his life in the darkness of spiritual ignorance, which can only be enlightened by the immaculate divine light.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਇਕ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੇ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਕੁਚਲ ਕਛੋਤਿ ॥
naam binaa jhoothay kuchal kachhot.
Those who lack Naam, utter false and vicious words; they also mislead others, as if they are liars, filthy and untouchable.
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਹਨ ਗੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਭੈੜੀ ਛੂਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰੋਤਿ ॥
bayd pukaarai bhagat sarot.
The Vedas (religious books) preach sermons of devotional worship.
ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਹੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਜੋਤਿ ॥੬॥
sun sun maanai vaykhai jot. ||6||
One who listens and believes it, beholds the divine light everywhere. ||6||
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਰੱਬੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਮੰ ॥

The Shaastras and Simritees strongly stress upon remembering Naam.
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕੀਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਾਮੰ ॥
gurmukh saaNt ootam karaamaN.
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings (and remember God), do sublime deeds and celestial peace wells up within them.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੂਖ ਸਹਾਮੰ ॥
manmukh jonee dookh sahaamaN.
The self-willed people suffer the misery of going through the reincarnation.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਮੰ ॥੭॥
banDhan tootay ik naam vasaamaN. ||7||
His bonds of Maya are broken only by enshrining God’s Name in the heart. ||7||
ਇਹ ਬੰਧਨ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਟੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥੭॥
ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
mannay naam sachee pat poojaa.
True honor and adoration is received by believing in God’s Name.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
kis vaykhaa naahee ko doojaa.
Whom else should I see, when there is none other except God?
ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਦੇਖਿ ਕਹਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
daykh kaha-o bhaavai man so-ay.
Beholding Him everywhere, I sing His praises and He is pleasing to my mind.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak kahai avar nahee ko-ay. ||8||1||
Nanak says, there is no one other at all. ||8||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥
