ਅਨਿਕ ਭਗਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨ ਤਾਰੇ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਮੁਨੀ ॥
anik bhagat anik jan taaray simrahi anik munee.
O’ God! You have ferried across the worldly ocean of vices, those innumerable devotees and sages who lovingly remember You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਟਿਕ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਗੁਨੀ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੨੭॥
anDhulay tik nirDhan Dhan paa-i-o parabh naanak anik gunee. ||2||2||127||
O’ Nanak, the infinitely Virtuous God is like a walking stick (support) to a blind person and wealth for a penniless person. ||2||2||127||

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੋਹਨ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਾਵੈ ਹਾਰ ਕਜਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਭਰਨ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
mohan need na aavai haavai haar kajar bastar abhran keenay.
O Enticing God! a soul-bride adorned with necklace, eye makeup, ornaments and beautiful clothes cannot sleep and she keeps sighing in grief;
ਹੇ ਮੋਹਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹਾਰ, ਕੱਜਲ, ਕਪੜੇ, ਗਹਿਣੇ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਅਤੇ ਹਉਕੇ ਭਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਡੀਨੀ ਉਡੀਨੀ ਉਡੀਨੀ ॥
udeenee udeenee udeenee.
waiting for her Husband-God, she remains sad.
ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਕਬ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kab ghar aavai ree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
And keeps asking her friend, when would I realize Him in my heart? ||1||Pause|
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! (ਮੇਰਾ ਪਤੀ) ਕਦੋਂ ਘਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਚਰਨ ਸੀਸੁ ਧਰਿ ॥
saran suhaagan charan sees Dhar.
I seek the refuge of the fortunate soul-bride and humbly bow to her,
ਹੇ ਮੋਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਿਰ ਧਰ ਕੇ (ਪੁੱਛਦੀ ਹਾਂ-)
ਲਾਲਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
laalan mohi milaavhu.
and request her to unite me with my Beloved God.
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ l
ਕਬ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
kab ghar aavai ree. ||1||
I ask her when would He come to my heart. ||1||
ਕਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਵੇਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸਹੇਰੀ ਮਿਲਨ ਬਾਤ ਕਹਉ ਸਗਰੋ ਅਹੰ ਮਿਟਾਵਹੁ ਤਉ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਲਾਲਨੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
sunhu sahayree milan baat kaha-o sagro ahaN mitaavhu ta-o ghar hee laalan paavhu.
The fortunate soul-bride says, listen O’ my friend, I tell you about union with the Husband-God; erase all egotism and you would realize Him within your heart.
ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ-) ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਸੁਣ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇ। ਤਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਏਂਗੀ।
ਤਬ ਰਸ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥
tab ras mangal gun gaavhu.
Then you may keep singing the delightful songs of God’s praises,
ਫਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੀਂ,
ਆਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ॥
aanad roop Dhi-aavahu.
and keep remembering with adoration that embodiment of bliss.
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੀਂ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਇਓ ॥
naanak du-aarai aa-i-o.
Nanak has come to the company of the Guru,
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਤਉ ਮੈ ਲਾਲਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
ta-o mai laalan paa-i-o ree. ||2||
and I, Nanak has realized the Beloved God within my heart. ||2||
ਮੈਂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲਾਲ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮੋਹਨ ਰੂਪੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
mohan roop dikhaavai.
The enticing God is revealing His blessed vision to me,
ਮੋਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਨੀਦ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
ab mohi need suhaavai.
and now (detached from Maya), sleep seems sweet to me.
ਹੁਣ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ) ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਿਖਾ ਬੁਝਾਨੀ ॥
sabh mayree tikhaa bujhaanee.
All my yearning for worldly things has been fully quenched,
ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
ab mai sahj samaanee.
and now, I am absorbed in spiritual peace and poise.
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੀਠੀ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥
meethee pireh kahaanee.
The praises of my husband-God are pleasing to me.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਮੋਹਨੁ ਲਾਲਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥੧੨੮॥
mohan laalan paa-i-o ree. rahaa-o doojaa. ||1||128||
O’ my friend, I have realized the heart captivating Beloved God. ||Second Pause ||1||128||
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲਾਲ ਮੋਹਣ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥੧੨੮॥

ਮੋਰੀ ਅਹੰ ਜਾਇ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਹੇ ॥
moree ahaN jaa-ay darsan paavat hay.
My ego is gone by beholding the blessed vision of God.
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਚਹੁ ਨਾਥ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਈ ਸੰਤਨਾ ॥
raachahu naath hee sahaa-ee santnaa.
O’ brother, remain attuned to the Master-God, the helper of the Saints.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਈ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਅਬ ਚਰਨ ਗਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ab charan gahay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I am now lovingly meditating on His immaculate Name). ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਚਰਨ ਫੜ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਹੇ ਮਨ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਚਰਨਾਵੈ ਚਰਨਾਵੈ ਉਲਝਿਓ ਅਲਿ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਕਮਲ ਜਿਉ ॥
aahay man avar na bhaavai charnaavai charnaavai uljhi-o al makrand kamal ji-o.
My mind longs for nothing but God’s immaculate Name; it is totally absorbed in it like the bumble bee attached to the essence of the lotus flower.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਤਾਂਘਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭੌਰਾ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਪਟਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਲ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨ ਰਸ ਨਹੀ ਚਾਹੈ ਏਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹੈ ॥੧॥
an ras nahee chaahai aykai har laahai. ||1||
My mind does not care for any other relish, it craves only for the one God. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹੋਰ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੋੜਦਾ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਅਨ ਤੇ ਟੂਟੀਐ ਰਿਖ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੀਐ ॥
an tay tootee-ai rikh tay chhootee-ai.
When one breaks off from the love of worldly things, then he is saved from the rounds of birth and death.
ਹੋਰ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਤੋਂ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਵਾਗਵਨ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਪਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਘੂਟੀਐ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਲਟੀਐ ॥
man har ras ghootee-ai sang saaDhoo ultee-ai.
O’ my mind, one turns away from the love for worldly riches by remaining in the company of saints and drinking the essence of God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਚੁੰਘੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ) ਪਰਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ॥
an naahee naahee ray.
O’ brother, none other than God’s love is pleasing to the mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਮੋਹ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚਰਨ ਚਰਨ ਹੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੨੯॥
naanak pareet charan charan hay. ||2||2||129||
O’ Nanak, always remain in love with God’s immaculate Name. ||2||2||129||

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਖ ਹਰਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੋ ॥
dukh hartaa har naam pachhaano.
O’ my friends, realize God’s Name, the dispeller of sorrows,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਾ,
ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ajaamal ganikaa jih simrat mukat bha-ay jee-a jaano. ||1|| rahaa-o.
remembering whom with adoration, even the sinners like Aja Mall and Ganika were emancipated.||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਗਿਆ, ਗਨਿਕਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗਜ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੀ ਛਿਨਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
gaj kee taraas mitee chhinhoo meh jab hee raam bakhaano.
O’ my friends, the elephant named Gaj was relieved of his mortal fear in an instant, as soon as he chanted God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਗਜ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਭੀ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਨਾਰਦ ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਧ੍ਰੂਅ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਭਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਲਪਟਾਨੋ ॥੧॥
naarad kahat sunat Dharoo-a baarik bhajan maahi laptaano. ||1||
Listening to Naarad’s teachings, the child Dhroo was absorbed in meditation of God. ||1||
ਨਾਰਦ ਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਬਾਲਕ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਜਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਅਚਲ ਅਮਰ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਜਗਤ ਜਾਹਿ ਹੈਰਾਨੋ ॥
achal amar nirbhai pad paa-i-o jagat jaahi hairaano.
The child Dharoo received the imperishable, immortal, and fearless state, and the entire world was astonished.
ਧ੍ਰੂ ਨੇ ਐਸਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਟੱਲ ਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਭਗਤ ਰਛਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨੋ ॥੨॥੧॥
naanak kahat bhagat rachhak har nikat taahi tum maano. ||2||1||
Nanak says, God is the protector of His devotees, and you should always deem Him close to you. ||2||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
har kay naam binaa dukh paavai.
One endures sorrow without remembering God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹ ਚੂਕੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhagat binaa sahsaa nah chookai gur ih bhayd bataavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru reveals this secret that doubt is not dispelled without devotional worship of God. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਤੀਰਥ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਕੀਏ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
kahaa bha-i-o tirath barat kee-ay raam saran nahee aavai.
It is of no use to visit pilgrimage places or observe fasts if one does not seek the refuge of God.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ, ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
