ਜਿਉ ਬੋਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਬੋਲਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਨ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
ji-o bolaaveh ti-o bolah su-aamee kudrat kavan hamaaree.
O my God master, we can only speak what You make us speak, otherwise what power do we have to say anything?
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਸਾਡੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕੀਹ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਹੈ? ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੮॥
saaDhsang naanak jas gaa-i-o jo parabh kee at pi-aaree. ||8||1||8||
Nanak has sung God’s praise in the company of saintly persons, which is most endearing to Him.||8||1||8||

ਨਾਥ ਨਰਹਰ ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧਵ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਦੇਵ ॥
naath narhar deen banDhav patit paavan dayv.
O my Master Narhar(the man-lion Incarnate), You are the helper of the helpless, the purifier of sinners, and enlightener of mind.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਨਰਹਰ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਈ! ਹੇ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਚਾਨਣ-ਸਰੂਪ!
ਭੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨਾਸ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਸਫਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥
bhai taraas naas kirpaal gun niDh safal su-aamee sayv. ||1||
O’ my Master, the destroyer of dread, merciful, treasure of virtues, fruitful is Your service.”||1||
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਸਹਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥

O’ God, the merciful Master of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ!
ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੇਸਵ ਤਾਰਿ ਜਗ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan saran da-i-aal kaysav taar jag bhav sinDh. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I humbly seek Your sanctuary, O Merciful God, please help me swim across this dreadful worldly ocean. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ (ਕੇਸ਼ਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ! ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਹਰਨ ਮਦ ਮੋਹ ਦਹਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਕਰੰਦ ॥
kaam kroDh haran mad moh dahan muraar man makrand.
O’ Destroyer of lust and anger, remover of the intoxication of worldly attachments, eliminator of fear, and sweet like honey to the mind.
ਹੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਧਰਣੀਧਰ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ॥੨॥
janam maran nivaar DharneeDhar pat raakh parmaanand. ||2||
Set me free from the cycles of birth and death, O Sustainer of the earth, preserve my honor, O Embodiment of supreme bliss. ||2||
ਮੇਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇ! ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ! (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ) ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ-ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ॥੨॥
ਜਲਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਰੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਮੰਤ ॥
jalat anik tarang maa-i-aa gur gi-aan har rid mant.
Instill divine knowledge and wisdom of the Guru in the hearts of mortals, who are burning in the countless waves of fire of worldly desires.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮਾਇਆ-ਅੱਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਟਿਕਾ।
ਛੇਦਿ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਚਿੰਤ ਮੇਟਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਨੰਤ ॥੩॥
chhayd ahaN-buDh karunaa mai chint mayt purakh anant. ||3||
O’ merciful Master, the all pervading limitless God, destroy our arrogant intellect and dispel our anxiety.”||3||
(ਸਾਡੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ! ਹੇ ਤਰਸ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ॥੩॥
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਪਲ ਮਹੂਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥
simar samrath pal mahoorat parabh Dhi-aan sahj samaaDh.
O’ supreme almighty God, bless us that we may keep remembering You at every moment and remain serenely engrossed in Your meditation.
ਹੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹਰ ਪਲ ਹਰ ਘੜੀ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ।
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾਚੀਐ ਰਜ ਸਾਧ ॥੪॥
deen da-i-aal parsann pooran jaachee-ai raj saaDh. ||4||
O’ Merciful to the meek, blissful, all pervading God, bless us that we always beg for the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ (ਹੀ ਸਦਾ) ਮੰਗਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮੋਹ ਮਿਥਨ ਦੁਰੰਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
moh mithan durant aasaa baasnaa bikaar.
O’ God, save me from drowning in the worldly ocean of vices, dispel the unnecessary doubts from my mind, keep me away from the maladies of false attachment, ill-fated desire, and evil allurements.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ, ਭੈੜੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸਾ ਤੋਂ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੋਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ॥੫॥
ਰਖੁ ਧਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਉਧਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੫॥
rakh Dharam bharam bidaar man tay uDhar har nirankaar. ||5||
Please, preserve my honor and faith, dispel these doubts from my mind, and save me, O Formless God. ||5||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਝੂਠੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ, ਭੈੜੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸਾ ਤੋਂ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੋਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ॥੫॥
ਧਨਾਢਿ ਆਢਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਹੋਤ ਜਿਨਾ ਨ ਚੀਰ ॥
Dhanaadh aadh bhandaar har niDh hot jinaa na cheer.
O’ God, those who didn’t have even rags to cover their bodies, by meditating on Your (Naam) have become wealthy with storehouses of treasures,
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਸ (ਤਨ ਢੱਕਣ ਲਈ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੀ ਲੀਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਧਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਧਨੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਖਲ ਮੁਗਧ ਮੂੜ ਕਟਾਖ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਭਏ ਗੁਣ ਮਤਿ ਧੀਰ ॥੬॥
khal mugaDh moorh kataakh-y sareeDhar bha-ay gun mat Dheer. ||6||
and just by a single glance of grace by You, even the greatest fools have become persons of great intellect, virtue and patience.||6||
ਹੇ ਲੱਛਮੀ-ਪਤੀ! ਮਹਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ, ਉੱਚੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਾਲੇ, ਧੀਰਜ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
jeevan mukat jagdees jap man Dhaar rid parteet.
So, my mind, meditate on the Master of the Universe, who can liberate you even when you are alive; enshrine Him in your heart,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੀਵਨ-ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਗਦੀਸ਼ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ। ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਟਿਕਾ!
ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਰਮਣੰ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸਹ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੭॥
jee-a da-i-aa ma-i-aa sarbatar ramnaN param hansah reet. ||7||
and have compassion and mercy to all beings, and realize that the God is pervading everywhere; this is the way of life of the enlightened soul, the swan like great (persons) ||7||
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਇਆ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਲੂਕ ਰੱਖ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜਾਣ-ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੰਸ (-ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ) ਦੀ ਇਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਦੇਤ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਰਸਨ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
dayt darsan sarvan har jas rasan naam uchaar.
Those who see the vision of God with their eyes, listen to God’s praise with their ears, and utter (His) Name with their tongue,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਭ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਪਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥੫॥੧॥੧॥੨॥੫੭॥
ang sang bhagvaan parsan parabh naanak patit uDhaar. ||8||1||2||5||1||1||2||57||
They are part and parcel of God, O Nanak, His one Touch liberates the sinners.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ:) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਛੁਹ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥੫॥੧॥੧॥੨॥੫੭॥

ਰਾਗ ਗੂਜਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ‘ਵਾਰ’ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਕੰਦਰ ਬਿਰਾਹਿਮ ਦੀ ‘ਵਾਰ’ ਦੀ ਧੁਨ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ।

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਸਲੋਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦਾ।
ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੁਆ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
ih jagat mamtaa mu-aa jeevan kee biDh naahi.
This world is consumed by the desire to own everything, it does not know (the right way) to live.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਅਣਪੱਤ (ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ ‘ਮੇਰੀ’ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ ‘ਮੇਰੀ’ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ) ਵਿਚ ਇਤਨਾ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਉਣ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਣ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
gur kai bhaanai jo chalai taaN jeevan padvee paahi.
However they who live their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Guru, achieve the object of life, (which is union with God).
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਓਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਜੀਵਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਹਿ ॥
o-ay sadaa sadaa jan jeevtay jo har charnee chit laahi.
They, who humbly attune their minds to the the loving remembrance of God, live forever.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਮਝੋ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak nadree man vasai gurmukh sahj samaahi. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the gracious God comes to reside in their hearts, and through Guru’s grace they merge in Him in a state of peace and serenity.||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਥੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲ ਮਨ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਮਾਰ ॥
andar sahsaa dukh hai aapai sir DhanDhai maar.
They suffer the pangs of doubt and uncertainty who are engrossed in worldly affairs and keep suffering from the blows of worldly entanglements.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੌਖਲਾ ਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਖਪਾਣਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਸਹੇੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਤੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay sutay kabeh na jaageh maa-i-aa moh pi-aar.
It is as if they are in love with Maya (the worldly riches and power), and they never become conscious (of its entanglements).
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਗ਼ਫ਼ਲਿਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਦੇ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥
naam na cheeteh sabad na vichaareh ih manmukh kaa aachaar.
They do not meditate on God’s Naam, and do not reflect on the word of the Guru; this is the life conduct of a self-conceited person.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਜਪਦੇ,
