ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਲਾਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
man tan seetal saaNt sahj laagaa parabh kee sayv.
He engaged himself in the devotional worship of God and intuitively he became tranquil and peaceful.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤਨੁ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਆ ਗਈ।
ਟੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਸਫਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ॥
tootay banDhan baho bikaar safal pooran taa kay kaam.
His bonds with vices are broken, and his affairs are settled successfully.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸਿ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਿਟੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਛੁਟੀ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥
durmat mitee ha-umai chhutee simrat har ko naam.
By meditating on God’s Name, his evil intellect is gone and ego is dispelled.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਆਵਾ ਗਵਨ ॥
saran gahee paarbarahm kee miti-aa aavaa gavan.
His cycle of birth and death has comes to an end by seeking the refuge of God.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਪਕੜਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਵਨ ॥
aap tari-aa kutamb si-o gun gubind parabh ravan.
By singing the praises of God he, along with his family, swims across the world ocean of vices.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਜਪੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
har kee tahal kamaavnee japee-ai parabh kaa naam.
We should perform self-less service and meditate on God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥੧੫॥
gur pooray tay paa-i-aa naanak sukh bisraam. ||15||
O’ Nanak, it is only through perfect Guru, that one has realized God, the source of all comforts and peace. ||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

ਪੂਰਨੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਿ ॥
pooran kabahu na doltaa pooraa kee-aa parabh aap.
The person whom God Himself has blessed with righteous life, never waivers in faith under the pressure of Maya.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਆ ਕੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ
ਦਿਨੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਘਾਟਿ ॥੧੬॥
din din charhai savaa-i-aa naanak hot na ghaat. ||16||
O’ Nanak, Day by day that person’s spiritual glory multiplies and there is never a decrease in this spiritual glory. ||16||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿਨੋ ਦਿਨ ਵਧੀਕ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਕਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ

ਪੂਰਨਮਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥

Poornima (full moon): God alone is Perfect with all the virtues; He is capable of doing and causing things to happen.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਹਥੁ ॥
jee-a jant da-i-aal purakh sabh oopar jaa kaa hath.
All pervading God is merciful and protects all living beings.
ਉਹ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ (ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ) ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਆ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
gun niDhaan gobind gur kee-aa jaa kaa ho-ay.
The great God, through whom everything happens is the treasure of excellence.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸੋਇ ॥
antarjaamee parabh sujaan alakh niranjan so-ay.
God, the knower of all minds, is wise, incomprehensible and immaculate.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਆਣਾ, ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੋ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ॥
paarbarahm parmaysaro sabh biDh jaananhaar.
The Supreme and Transcendent God is the Knower of all ways and means.
ਉਹ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਦਾ) ਹਰੇਕ ਢੰਗ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਸਰਨਿ ਜੋਗੁ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥
sant sahaa-ee saran jog aath pahar namaskaar.
He is the supporter of saints, able to give shelter to all, and therefore we should always bow in reverence to Him.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ-ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ।
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ॥
akath kathaa nah boojhee-ai simrahu har kay charan.
We cannot understand His indescribable virtues; we should always remember Him with love and devotion.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਨ ॥੧੬॥
patit uDhaaran anaath naath naanak parabh kee saran. ||16||
O’ Nanak, seek the shelter of that God, who is the savior of sinners and support of the supportless. ||16||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ

ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਹਸਾ ਗਇਓ ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
dukh binsay sahsaa ga-i-o saran gahee har raa-ay.
The person who has taken the shelter of the supreme God, all his sorrows have vanished and dread has disappeared.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੧੭॥
man chinday fal paa-i-aa naanak har gun gaa-ay. ||17||
O’ Nanak, all his mind’s desires are fulfilled by singing God’s praises . ||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਿਤਵੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏ ॥

ਕੋਈ ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸੁਣੈ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ko-ee gaavai ko sunai ko-ee karai beechaar.
Whosoever sings, whosoever listens and whosoever contemplates,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕੋ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਕੋ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
ko updaysai ko darirhai tis kaa ho-ay uDhaar.
whoever preaches others and enshrines within himself the praises of God is saved from the vices.
ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
kilbikh kaatai ho-ay nirmalaa janam janam mal jaa-ay.
That person’s sins are erased, he becomes immaculate and the filth of evil deeds of countless births is washed off.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕੱਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਨਹ ਪੋਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇ ॥
halat palat mukh oojlaa nah pohai tis maa-ay.
Both here and hereafter he is treated with honor because he is not influenced by Maya (worldly riches and power).
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸੋ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਸੋ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਨਵੰਤੁ ॥
so surta so baesno so giyani dhanwant.
knowledgeable and spiritually wealthy.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ; ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ) ਧਨਾਢ ਹੈ l
ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਕੁਲਵੰਤੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਭਜਿਆ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥
so sooraa kulvant so-ay jin bhaji-aa bhagvant.
He who has meditated on God is brave to tackle the vices and is from high lineage.
ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸੂਰਮਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੁਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ; ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਸੂਦੁ ਬੈਸੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥
khatree baraahman sood bais uDhrai simar chandaal.
The Kshatriyas, the Brahmins, the Sudras, the Vaishya and antisocials are all saved from the vices by meditating on God’s Name.
ਖੱਤਰੀ, ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਸ਼ੂਦਰ, ਵੈਸ਼ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੧੭॥
jin jaani-o parabh aapnaa naanak tiseh ravaal. ||17||
O’ Nanak, I am a humbel servant of the one who has realized God.||17||
ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ l

One eternal God. Realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Shlok Fourth Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਮਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
satgur purakh da-i-aal hai jis no samat sabh ko-ay.
The true Guru is compassionate and for him all are alike .
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੇਰਕ ਜੀਵ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਤੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
ayk darisat kar daykh-daa man bhaavnee tay siDh ho-ay.
He considers everyone equal, but success in mortal’s efforts is achieved in accordance with his faith in the Guru.
ਉਹ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਲ ਇਕੋ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਦੀ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਦੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
satgur vich amrit hai har utam har pad so-ay.
Within the true Guru’s heart resides the nectar of God’s Name; this is why he (Guru) holds exalted Status like God.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਮਰਤਬਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak kirpaa tay har Dhi-aa-ee-ai gurmukh paavai ko-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, it is only by the Guru’s grace that one meditates on God’s Name, and it is only a rare Guru’s follower who receives this gift of devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਰਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਵਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Fourth Guru:
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਬਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਜਗਿ ਤੋਟਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa sabh bikh hai nit jag totaa sansaar.
Egotism born out of Maya (worldly riches) is all like poison and by chasing it one always suffers a heavy spiritual loss in life.
ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀ) ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਟਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
laahaa har Dhan khati-aa gurmukh sabad veechaar.
However, a Guru’s follower has earned the wealth of God’s Name by reflecting on the Guru’s Word.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਦਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਖੱਟਿਆ (ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
ha-umai mail bikh utrai har amrit har ur Dhaar.
The filth of egotism and Maya is removed by enshrining the nectar of God’s Name within the heart.
ਹਉਮੈ-ਮੈਲ (ਰੂਪ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
