These many teachings and spiritual wisdom, hence, found a way into the Guru Granth Sahib from these Sikh Gurus, such as Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Angad Dev Ji, Guru Amar Das Ji, Guru Ram Das Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, and several Hindu and Muslim saints. Starting from the basics of love, it delivers a universal message to move toward love, equality, and love toward God. It is written in Gurmukhi script, subdivided into sections called Ragas.
For Sikhs, the Granth Sahib is a book of spiritual and inspirational learning. It is both recited and sung as part of daily prayers and ceremonies in Gurdwaras—Sikh temples. The scripture teaches selfless service, equality, and the quest for spiritual enlightenment. Guru Granth Sahib brought forward such values as peace, compassion, and unity, becoming light for Sikhs all around the world.
ਊਚੇ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੩॥
oochay tay ooch apaar. ||3||
He is the highest of the high and infinite. ||3||
ਉਹ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
jis gur parsaadee naam aDhaar.
One who by the Guru’s grace received the support of God’s Name,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਇ ॥
sabh thaan daykhay nain alo-ay.
One who looks everywhere with eyes wide open,
ਜੇਹਡਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਖੋਹਲ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਥਾਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੀਵਹੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਜਪਿਹੁ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣੀ ॥
peevhu amrit sadaa rahhu har rang japihu saarigpaanee.
Partake the Ambrosial Nectar of Naam, remain imbued with God’s Love forever, and meditate on God with loving devotion.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੋ, ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੋ, ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਓ।

Raag Raamkalee, Third Guru:
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਧਰੇ ॥
o-ankaar sabad uDhray.
Onkaar, the all pervading God, saves the beings from the vices by attaching them to the Guru’s divine word.
ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪਾਪੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਪਾਪੀ ਕਉ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
paap buraa paapee ka-o pi-aaraa.
O’ pundit, sin is bad, but it is dear to the sinner.
(ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ!) ਪਾਪ ਮਾੜਾ (ਕੰਮ) ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪਾਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਖਾਈ ॥
kit biDh aasaa mansaa khaa-ee.
How have you subdued your hopes and desires?
ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ?
ਪਵਨੁ ਨ ਸਾਧਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ॥
pavan na saaDhi-aa sach na araaDhi-aa.
One who has not remembered God, has not gained control of his breath.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਧਿਆ l
