“A Sikh wedding ceremony deeply rooted in the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib – the central scripture of Sikhism – is commonly referred to as Anand Karaj, which translates as ‘Blissful Union’. According to the procedure, the couple must give themselves both to each other and to God during this ceremony in a spiritual and moral way. Guru Ram Das – he was the fourth guru of Sikhs – wrote four hymns called Laavaan that are traditionally recited during wedlock ceremonies (Anand Karaj). Through these hymns, the couple is taken from one stage of marital love towards divine union.”
