ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
jay sa-o lochai rang na hovai ko-ay. ||3||
Even if a self-willed person wishes hundarads of time, he cannot receive God’s love. ||3||
Hata iwapo mtu mwenye hiari binafsi atamani mara mia moja, yeye hawezi kupokea upendo wa Mungu.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੬॥
nadar karay taa satgur paavai. naanak har ras har rang samaavai. ||4||2||6||
O’ Nanak, when God casts His glance of grace, one gets to meet the True Guru,and then he remains merged in God’s love. ||4||2||6||
Ee Nanak, wakati Mungu anatupa mtazamo wake wa neema, mtu anapata kukutana na Guru wa Kweli na kisha anabaki ameunganishwa katika upendo wa Mungu.

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
jihvaa har ras rahee aghaa-ay.
One whose tongue remains satiated with the relish of God’s love,
Yule ambaye ulimi wake unabaki umetoshelezwa na kiburudisho cha upendo wa Mungu,

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
gurmukh peevai sahj samaa-ay. ||1||
by following the Guru’s teachings, he partakes the nectar of Naam and remains in the state of spiritual peace and poise.||1||
kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, yeye anashiriki nekta ya Naam na anabaki katika hali ya amani na utulivu wa kiroho.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਨ ਚਾਖਹੁ ਜੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
har ras jan chaakhahu jay bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, if you get to taste the essence of Naam,
Ee ndugu, iwapo upate kionjo cha kiini cha Naam,

ਤਉ ਕਤ ਅਨਤ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ta-o kat anat saad lobhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
then you would not be tempted by any of the worldly tastes. ||1||Pause||
basi hautashawishiwa na vionjo vyovyote vya kidunia. ||1||Sitisha||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
gurmat ras raakho ur Dhaar.
Follow the Guru’s teaching and keep this subtle essence, the relish of Naam enshrined in your heart.
Fuata funzo la Guru na uweke kiini hiki kilichofichika, kiburudisho cha Naam, ndani ya moyo wako.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
har ras raatay rang muraar. ||2||
Those imbued with the subtle essence of Naam are blessed with God’s love. ||2||
Wale waliopenyezwa na kiini kilichofichika cha Naam wanabarikiwa na upendo wa Mungu.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
manmukh har ras chaakhi-aa na jaa-ay.
A self-willed person is not able to enjoy the relish of Naam.
Mtu mwenye hiari binafsi hawezi kufurahia kiburudisho cha Naam.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
ha-umai karai bahutee milai sajaa-ay. ||3||
He acts out of ego and suffers terrible punishment of spiritual agony. ||3||
Anatenda kutokana na ubinafsi na anapata adhabu kali ya maumivu ya kiroho.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
nadar karay taa har ras paavai.
But if he is blessed with God’s mercy, he receives the subtle essence of Naam.
Lakini iwapo amebarikiwa na huruma ya Mungu, anapokea kiini taratibu cha Naam.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੭॥
naanak har ras har gun gaavai. ||4||3||7||
O’ Nanak, such a person is imbued with God’s love and keeps singing His praises. ||4||3||7||
Ee Nanak, mtu kama huyo anapenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu na anaendelea kuimba sifa Zake.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa Kweli.

ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤਿਆ ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
neech jaat har japti-aa utam padvee paa-ay.
By meditating on the Name of God, even a person of low social status achieves sublime spiritual state;
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, hata mtu wa hadhi ya chini ya kijamii anatimiza hali tukufu ya kiroho;

ਪੂਛਹੁ ਬਿਦਰ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤੈ ਕਿਸਨੁ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
poochhahu bidar daasee sutai kisan utri-aa ghar jis jaa-ay. ||1||
(If you are in disbelief) go and ask someone about Bidar, the son of a maid; lord Krishna himself stayed in Bidar’s house (forsaking king Duryodhana). ||1||
(Iwapo hauamini) nenda ukaulize mtu kuhusu Bidar, mwana wa mjakazi; bwana Krishna mwenyewe alikaa nyumbani mwa Bidar (akiacha mfalme Duryodhana).

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਸਭ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har kee akath kathaa sunhu jan bhaa-ee jit sahsaa dookh bhookh sabh leh jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ brothers, listen to the indescribable praises of God, listening to which all doubts, pain, and hunger for Maya go away. ||1||Pause||
Ee ndugu, sikilizeni sifa zisizoelezeka za Mungu, ambazo kwa kuzisikiliza shaka, maumivu na njaa yote ya Maya inatokomea. ||1||Sitisha||

ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਚਮਾਰੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਇਕ ਗਾਇ ॥
ravidaas chamaar ustat karay har keerat nimakh ik gaa-ay.
Ravidas, the leather-worker, always sang the praises of God.
Ravidas, fundi wa ndozi, daima aliimba sifa za Mungu.

ਪਤਿਤ ਜਾਤਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਪਏ ਪਗਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
patit jaat utam bha-i-aa chaar varan pa-ay pag aa-ay. ||2||
Although he was of low social status, he was exalted and spiritually elevated, and people of all casts bowed at his feet and honored him. ||2||
Ijapokuwa yeye alikuwa wa hadhi ya chini ya kijamii, yeye alikwezwa na kuinuliwa kiroho na watu wa matabaka yote walisujudu miguuni pake na kumuenzi.

ਨਾਮਦੇਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਛੀਪਾ ਕਹੈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
naamday-a pareet lagee har saytee lok chheepaa kahai bulaa-ay.
Namdev, whom people used to call a fabric dyer (low caste), was imbued with God’s love.
Namdev, ambaye watu walikuwa wanamuita mtiaji rangi wa nguo (tabaka la chini), alipenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu.

ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਪਿਠਿ ਦੇ ਛੋਡੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਲੀਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
khatree baraahman pith day chhoday har naamday-o lee-aa mukh laa-ay. ||3||
God ignored the high social status Kshatriyas and Brahmins, but blessed Namdev with His sight. ||3||
Mungu alipuuza Kshatriyas na Brahmin wa hadhi ya juu ya kijamii, lakini alibariki Namdev na mwono wake.

ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਤਿਨ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਕਢਾਇ ॥
jitnay bhagat har sayvkaa mukh athsath tirath tin tilak kadhaa-ay.
All of the devotees of God arehonored at all the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage by applying the ceremonial mark to their foreheads.
Watawa wote wa Mungu wanaenziwa katika ziara zote takatifu sitini na nane za hija kwa kupaka ishara ya kisherehe kwenye mapaji yao.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪਰਸੇ ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥
jan naanak tin ka-o an-din parsay jay kirpaa karay har raa-ay. ||4||1||8||
If God shows mercy, devotee Nanak would day and night humbly serve those devotees of God. ||4||1||8||
Iwapo mungu aonyeshe huruma, mtawa Nanak atatumikia wale watawa na Mungu kwa unyenyekevu mchana na usiku.

ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਲਾਰਾ ॥
tinHee antar har aaraaDhi-aa jin ka-o Dhur likhi-aa likhat lilaaraa.
They alone worship and adore God deep within, who are blessed with such preordained destiny.
Wao pekee wanaabudu na kutukuza Mungu ndani mwao, ambao wamebarikiwa na hatima iliyoagiziwa mapema kama hiyo.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਗੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
tin kee bakheelee ko-ee ki-aa karay jin kaa ang karay mayraa har kartaaraa. ||1||
What can anyone do to undermine them when the Creator-God Himself is on their side. ||1||
Mtu yeyote anaweza kufanya nini kuwadhoofisha wakati Muumba-Mungu Mwenyewe yu katika upande wao.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har Dhi-aa-ay man mayray man Dhi-aa-ay har janam janam kay sabh dookh nivaaranhaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my mind, meditate on Naam at all times; God can destroy all the sins committed birth after birth. ||1||Pause||
Ee akili yangu, tafakari kuhusu Naam wakati wote; Mungu anaweza kuangamiza dhambi zote zilizotendwa katika kuzaliwa kwingi. ||1||Sitisha||

ਧੁਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
Dhur bhagat janaa ka-o bakhsi-aa har amrit bhagat bhandaaraa.
Since the very beginning, God has blessed His devotees with the ambrosial nectar of Naam, the treasure of devotional worship.
Tangu mwanzoni kabisa, Mungu amebariki watawa wake na nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam, hazina ya ibada ya ujitoaji.

ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਉਨ ਕੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
moorakh hovai so un kee rees karay tis halat palat muhu kaaraa. ||2||
Only a fool would try to compete them; such a person would be disgraced in this world and the next. ||2||
Ni mpumbavu pekee ambaye angejaribu kushindana nao; mtu kama huyo angeaibishwa duniani humu na ile itakayofuata.

ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੇ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
say bhagat say sayvkaa jinaa har naam pi-aaraa.
They alone are the true devotees, and they alone are the selfless servants of God who love Naam dearly.
Wao tu ndio watawa wa kweli, na wao tu ndio watumishi wa Mungu wasio na ubinafsi wanaopenda Naam kwa dhati.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੈ ਪਵੈ ਛਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
tin kee sayvaa tay har paa-ee-ai sir nindak kai pavai chhaaraa. ||3||
One can realize God by following the advice of such devotees, and one who slanders these devotees is disgraced. ||3||
Mtu anaweza kugundua Mungu kwa kufuata ushauri wa watawa kama hao, na yule anayechongeza watawa hao anafedheheshwa.

ਜਿਸੁ ਘਰਿ ਵਿਰਤੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਛਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
jis ghar virtee so-ee jaanai jagat gur naanak poochh karahu beechaaraa.
He knows the suffering in whose heart resides the malady of slander, you may ask and reflect upon what Nanak, the Guru of the world, says about this.
Yeye anajua kuteseka ambaye moyoni mwake mnaishi gonjwa la uchongezi, unaweza kuuliza na kuwaza kwa makini kuhusu kile ambacho Nanak, Guru wa dunia, anasema kuhusu hii.

ਚਹੁ ਪੀੜੀ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੯॥
chahu peerhee aad jugaad bakheelee kinai na paa-i-o har sayvak bhaa-ay nistaaraa. ||4||2||9||
In all the four generations, from the beginning of all ages and from the beginning of time, nobody has realized God through slander of devotees. It is only by adopting an attitude of serving them that one is liberated. ||4||2||9||
Katika vizazi vyote vinne, kutoka mwanzoni mwa enzi zote na kutoka mwanzo wa nyakati, hakuna mtu amegundua Mungu kwa kuchongeza watawa. Ni kwa kuchukua mtazamo wa kuwatumikia ambapo mtu anakombolewa.

ਜਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਤੁ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jithai har aaraaDhee-ai tithai har mit sahaa-ee.
Wherever God is remembered in adoration, the friendly God is present right there to help.
Popote ambapo Mungu anakumbukwa kwa ibada, Mungu mwenye urafiki yupo hapo kutoa msaada.
