ਸੁਣਹਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਜੇਤੜੇ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
suneh vakaaneh jayt-rhay ha-o tin balihaarai jaa-o.
I dedicate my life to those who hear and recite Naam.
Naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwa wale wanaosikia na kukariri Naam.

ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਖੀਵਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥
taa man kheevaa jaanee-ai jaa mahlee paa-ay thaa-o. ||2||
One’s mind is considered in bliss only when it remains absorbed in the remembrance of God.
Akili ya mtu inafikiriwa kuwa katika raha tele iwapo tu ibaki imevama katika ukumbusho wa Mungu.

ਨਾਉ ਨੀਰੁ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਸਤੁ ਪਰਮਲੁ ਤਨਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
naa-o neer chang-aa-ee-aa sat parmal tan vaas.
O, mortal, use the name of God and His virtuesas water to bathe and apply the perfume of righteousness to the body.
Ee binadamu, tumia jina la Mungu na fadhila zake kama maji ya kuoga na upake marashi ya uadilifu kwa mwili wako.

ਤਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਜਲਾ ਲਖ ਦਾਤੀ ਇਕ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
taa mukh hovai ujlaa lakh daatee ik daat.
Thenl your face will become radiant , and this one gift (of God’sName) is greater than a million gifts.
Kisha uso wako utang’aa, na thawabu hii moja (ya Jina la Mungu) ni kuu zaidi kuliko zawadi milioni moja.

ਦੂਖ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਹਿ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਸੂਖ ਜਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
dookh tisai peh aakhee-ahi sookh jisai hee paas. ||3||
You should narrate your woes only to Him who is the source of all comforts.
Unafaa kueleza matatizo yako kwake Yeye tu ambaye ndiye chanzo cha starehe zote.

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਣ ॥
so ki-o manhu visaaree-ai jaa kay jee-a paraan.
Why should we become forgetful of Him, to whom belong our life and soul?
Kwa nini tumsahau Yeye, ambaye uhai na roho yetu ni yake?

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਭੁ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਣੁ ॥
tis vin sabh apvitar hai jaytaa painan khaan.
Without remembering God, all that we wear and eat pollutes our mind.
Bila kumkumbuka Mungu, yote tunayovaa na kula yanachafua akili yetu.

ਹੋਰਿ ਗਲਾਂ ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੫॥
hor galaaN sabh koorhee-aa tuDh bhaavai parvaan. ||4||5||
O God, whatever pleases You is acceptable, everything else is false.
Ee Mungu, chochote kinachokupendeza kinakubalika, kila kitu kingine sio cha kweli.

ਜਾਲਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਘਸਿ ਮਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਤਿ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
jaal moh ghas mas kar mat kaagad kar saar.
Burn emotional worldly attachment, and grind it into ink. Transform your intelligence into the purest of paper.
Teketeza kiambatisho cha kidunia cha kihisia, na ukisage kiwe wino. Badilisha uwerevu wako uwe karatasi safi kabisa.

ਭਾਉ ਕਲਮ ਕਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ ਲਿਖੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
bhaa-o kalam kar chit laykhaaree gur puchh likh beechaar.
Make the love for God your pen and your mind the writer. After consulting your Guru, write immaculate thoughts about God.
Fanya upendo kwa Mungu kuwe kalamu yako na akili yako iwe mwandishi. Baada ya kushauriana na Guru wako, andika fikira takatifu kuhusu Mungu.

ਲਿਖੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਲਿਖੁ ਲਿਖੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
likh naam saalaah likh likh ant na paaraavaar. ||1||
Yes write down praises of God, over and over again, which has no end or limit.
Ndio, andika sifa za Mungu, tena na tena, ambazo hazina mwisho wala kikomo.

ਬਾਬਾ ਏਹੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
baabaa ayhu laykhaa likh jaan.
O Baba, learn to write such an account,
Ee Baba, jifunze kuandika akaunti kama hiyo,

ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਹੋਇ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jithai laykhaa mangee-ai tithai ho-ay sachaa neesaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
So that when the account of our deeds is called for, it is marked as true.
Ili wakati akaunti ya vitendo vyetu inaagizwa, inatiwa ishara kuwa ya kweli.

ਜਿਥੈ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਸਦ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਸਦ ਚਾਉ ॥
jithai mileh vadi-aa-ee-aa sad khusee-aa sad chaa-o.
Where greatness, eternal peace and everlasting joy are bestowed,
Pale ambapo ukuu, amani ya milele na furaha inayodumu milele inatawazwa,

ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਟਿਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
tin mukh tikay niklahi jin man sachaa naa-o.
There the faces of those, whose minds are attuned to the true Naam, are anointed with the mark of honor.
Hapo nyuso za wale, ambao akili zao zimemakinikia Naam ya kweli, zinatiwa ishata ya staha.

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਲੀ ਵਾਉ ਦੁਆਉ ॥੨॥
karam milai taa paa-ee-ai naahee galee vaa-o du-aa-o. ||2||
But Naam is obtained by God’s Grace, and not through idle talks.
Lakini Naam inapatwa kwa Neema ya Mungu, na sio kwa matamshi bure.

ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਵ ਸਲਾਰ ॥
ik aavahi ik jaahi uth rakhee-ahi naav salaar.
Myriads of individuals come into this world and depart. some are called by renowned names.
Maelfu ya watu wanakuja duniani humu na kuondoka. Wengine wanaitwa kwa majina yao tajika.

ਇਕਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਇਕਨਾ ਵਡੇ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥
ik upaa-ay mangtay iknaa vaday darvaar.
Some are born beggars, and some hold vast courts.
Wengine wanazaliwa kama waombaji, na wengine wanafanya vikao vikubwa.

ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
agai ga-i-aa jaanee-ai vin naavai vaykaar. ||3||
Going to the world hereafter, they realize that without Naam, they have wasted their life.
Wanapoenda kwa dunia ya akhera, wanagundua kwamba bila Naam, wametumia vibaya maisha yao.

ਭੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਡਰੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਛਿਜੈ ਦੇਹ ॥
bhai tayrai dar aglaa khap khap chhijai dayh.
O’ God, my body is withering away in dread of Your mighty fear.
Ee Mungu, mwili wangu inanyauka katika hofu ya woga wako mkuu.

ਨਾਵ ਜਿਨਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਹੋਦੇ ਡਿਠੇ ਖੇਹ ॥
naav jinaa sultaan khaan hoday dithay khayh.
With my own eyes, I have seen those known as kings and lords reduced to dust.
Kwa macho yangu yenyewe, nimeona wafalme na mabwana hao wakiangamizwa kuwa majivu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੇ ਤੁਟੇ ਨੇਹ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak uthee chali-aa sabh koorhay tutay nayh. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak, when one departs from the world, all one’s false attachments are broken.
Ee Nanak, wakati mtu anaondoka kutoka dunia, viambatisho vyake vyote vya uongo vinavunjwa.

ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਮਿਠੇ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਾਲੋਣੇ ॥
sabh ras mithay mani-ai suni-ai sa lonay.
To believe in God’s Name is to enjoy sweets, to hear His Name is to taste salty dishes.
Kusadiki Jina la Mungu ni kufurahia peremende, kusikia Jina lake ni kuonja vitoweo vyenye chumvi.

ਖਟ ਤੁਰਸੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਮਾਰਣ ਨਾਦ ਕੀਏ ॥
khat tursee mukh bolnaa maaran naad kee-ay.
Reciting God’s Name is like savouring sour delicacies, and singing God’s praises is like enjoying spicy food.
Kukariri Jina la Mungu ni kama kufurahia vitoweo chachu, na kuimba sifa za Mungu ni kama kufurahia chakula chenye vikolezo.

ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਉ ਏਕੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
chhateeh amrit bhaa-o ayk jaa ka-o nadar karay-i. ||1||
To those who are blessed by His Grace, feeling of love for God is like enjoying all the tasty dishes.
Kwa wale ambao wamebarikiwa kwa Neema yake, kuhisi upendo kwa Mungu ni kama kufurahia vitoweo vyote vitamu.

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
baabaa hor khaanaa khusee khu-aar.
O’ Baba, all those eatables ruin our happiness and make us suffer (in the end),
Ee Baba, vya kula hivo vyote vinaharibu furaha yetu na kutufanya tuteseke (mwishowe),

ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit khaaDhai tan peerhee-ai man meh chaleh vikaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Because remaining totally involved in these worldly pleasures takes you away from God causing misery to the body and evil thoughts run through the mind.
Kwa sababu kubaki umejihusisha kikamilifu katika raha hizi za kidunia kunakuondoa kutoka kwa Mungu na kuleta taabu kwa mwili na fikira mbaya zinatokea akilini.

ਰਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਸੁਪੇਦੀ ਸਤੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
rataa painan man rataa supaydee sat daan.
To dye one’s mind in God’s Name is like wearing red clothes (happiness). To practice charity and truthfulness is to be dressed in white (purity).
Kupaka rangi akili ya mtu kutumia Jina la Mungu ni kama kuvaa mavazi mekundu (furaha). Kutenda ukarimu na ukweli ni kuvishwa meupe (usafi).

ਨੀਲੀ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਕਦਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਹਿਰਣੁ ਪੈਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
neelee si-aahee kadaa karnee pahiran pair Dhi-aan.
Let removing vices from mind be your blue dress, and remembering God with love and devotion be your white robe of honor.
Hebu kuondoa maovu kutoka akili kuwe vazi lako la samawati, na kumkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo na ujitoaji kuwe joho lako nyeupe la staha.

ਕਮਰਬੰਦੁ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
karam-band santokh kaa Dhan joban tayraa naam. ||2||
Let contentment be my waistband, and God’s Name my wealth and youth.
Hebu kutoshelezwa kuwa deuli langu, na Jina la Mungu utajiri na ujana wangu.

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
baabaa hor painan khusee khu-aar.
O Baba, over indulgence in the worldly pleasures of wearing beautiful clothes ruins your inner happiness (that you get by remembering God).
Ee Baba, kujihusisha mno katika raha za kidunia za kuvaa mavazi mazuri kunaharibu raha yako iliyo ndani mwako (ambayo unapata kwa kumkumbuka Mungu).

ਜਿਤੁ ਪੈਧੈ ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit paiDhai tan peerhee-ai man meh chaleh vikaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Because remaining totally involved in these worldly pleasures of wearing beautiful clothes takes you away from God causing misery to the body and evil thoughts run through the mind.
Kwa sababu kubaki umejihusisha kikamilifu katika raha hizi za kidunia za kuvaa mavazi mazuri kunakuondoa kutoka kwa Mungu na kuleta taabu kwa mwili na fikira mbaya zinatokea akilini.

ਘੋੜੇ ਪਾਖਰ ਸੁਇਨੇ ਸਾਖਤਿ ਬੂਝਣੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਾਟ ॥
ghorhay paakhar su-inay saakhat boojhan tayree vaat.
O’ God, to understand and follow the way of life filled with your remembrance is like owning horses decorated with gold accessories and protective iron shields.
Ee Mungu, kuelewa na kufuata mtindo wa maisha uliojawa na ukumbusho wako ni kama kumiliki farasi walipambwa na mapambo ya dhahabu na ngao za ulinzi za chuma.

ਤਰਕਸ ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਣ ਸਾਂਗ ਤੇਗਬੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
tarkas teer kamaan saaNg taygband gun Dhaat.
The pursuit of Your virtues is like carrying all the weapons, such as bow and arrow, spear and sword.
Harakati ya kufuata fadhila zako ni kama kubeba silaha zote, kama vile upinde na mshale, mkuki na upanga.

ਵਾਜਾ ਨੇਜਾ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ॥੩॥
vaajaa nayjaa pat si-o pargat karam tayraa mayree jaat. ||3||
To be honored in Your court is like having drums and lances. Your Grace is the highest social status for me.
Kuenziwa katika mahakama yako ni kama kuwa na ngoma na mikuki. Neema yako ni hadhi ya juu zaidi ya kijamii kwangu.

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਚੜਣਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
baabaa hor charh-naa khusee khu-aar.
O’ Baba, over indulgence in these worldly pleasures deprives you from inner happiness (that you get by remembering God).
Ee Baba, kujihusisha mno katika raha za kidunia za kuvaa mavazi mazuri kunaharibu raha yako iliyo ndani mwako (ambayo unapata kwa kumkumbuka Mungu).

ਜਿਤੁ ਚੜਿਐ ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit charhi-ai tan peerhee-ai man meh chaleh vikaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Because remaining totally involved in these worldly pleasures takes you away from God causing misery to the body and evil thoughts run through the mind.

ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਖੁਸੀ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
ghar mandar khusee naam kee nadar tayree parvaar.
The joy I get by dwelling on Naam is like living in a beautiful mansion. O God, Your Gracious Glance is like the pleasure of having a big family.
Furaha ninayopata kwa kuishi kwa Naam ni kama kuishi katika jumba zuri.
