ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਆਖਣੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
hukam so-ee tuDh bhaavsee hor aakhan bahut apaar.
For me, the only command that matters is what pleases You. To say any thing else is far beyond anyone’s reach
Kwangu, amri ya pekee yenye maana ni ile inayokupendeza Wewe. Kusema kitu chochote kingine hakuwezekani na mtu yeyote.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਪੂਛਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
naanak sachaa paatisaahu poochh na karay beechaar. ||4||
O Nanak, the True King (God) does not seek advice from anyone else in His decisions.
Ee Nanak, Mfalme wa Kweli (Mungu) hatafuti ushauri kutoka kwa yeyote katika maamuzi yake.

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਉਣਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
baabaa hor sa-unaa khusee khu-aar.
O Baba, sleeping more than necessary deprives you from inner happiness (that you get by remembering God).
Ee Baba, kulala zaidi ya kunavyohitajika kunakunyima raha ya kindani (unayopata kwa kumkumbuka Mungu).

ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਤੈ ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੪॥੭॥
jit sutai tan peerhee-ai man meh chaleh vikaar. ||1|| rahaa-o. ||4||7||
Because remaining totally involved in these worldly pleasures takes you away from God causing misery to the body and evil thoughts run through the mind.
Kwa sababu kubaki umejihusisha kikamilifu katika raha hizi za kidunia za kuvaa mavazi mazuri kunakuondoa kutoka kwa Mungu na kuleta taabu kwa mwili na fikira mbaya zinatokea akilini.

ਕੁੰਗੂ ਕੀ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਰਤਨਾ ਕੀ ਲਲਿਤਾ ਅਗਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਤਨਿ ਸਾਸੁ ॥
kungoo kee kaaN-i-aa ratnaa kee lalitaa agar vaas tan saas.
The person, whose body is devoid of vices (pure like saffron ) and the tongue sings only the praises of God (precious like jewels) and every breath fragrant in the memory of God (fragrant like eaglewood ),
Mtu, ambaye mwili wako hauna maovu (safi kama zafarani) na ambaye ulimi wake unaimba tu sifa za Mungu (wenye thamani kama vito) na kila pumzi manukato katika ukumbusho wa Mungu (yenye harufu nzuri kama mti wa tai),

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਟਿਕਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
athsath tirath kaa mukh tikaa tit ghat mat vigaas.
His face bears the mark of piousness (as if bathed in sixty eight holy places of pilgrimage) and mind illuminated with Divine wisdom,
Uso wake una ishara wa uchaji (kana kwamba ameoga katika mahali sitini na nane takatifu za hija) na akili imeangazwa na hekima Takatifu,

ਓਤੁ ਮਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
ot matee salaahnaa sach naam guntaas. ||1||
with that wisdom, he chants the Praises of God, the Treasure of virtues.
Kwa hekima hiyo, yeye anaimba Sifa za Mungu, aliye Hazina ya fadhila.

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ॥
baabaa hor mat hor hor.
O’ brother, other worldly wisdom that takes us away from God is useless and irrelevant.
Ee ndugu, busara nyingine ya kidunia inayotuondoa kutoka kwa Mungu ni bure na haina maana.

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਵੇਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜਾ ਜੋਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jay sa-o vayr kamaa-ee-ai koorhai koorhaa jor. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If falsehood is practiced a hundred times, it is still false in its effects.
Iwapo udanganyifu utendwe mara mia moja, bado ni ya uongo na ndivyo zilivyo athari zake.

ਪੂਜ ਲਗੈ ਪੀਰੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
pooj lagai peer aakhee-ai sabh milai sansaar.
You may be worshipped and adored as a Pir (a spiritual teacher); you may be welcomed by all the world;
Wewe unaweza kuabudiwa na kupendwa kama Pir (mwalimu wa kiroho); unaweza kukaribishwa na dunia nzima;

ਨਾਉ ਸਦਾਏ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਿਧੁ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥
naa-o sadaa-ay aapnaa hovai siDh sumaar.
If he adopt a lofty name, and be known to have supernatural spiritual powers,
Iwapo achukue jina lenye staha, na kujulikana kuwa na nguvu za kimiujiza za kiroho,

ਜਾ ਪਤਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਸਭਾ ਪੂਜ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
jaa pat laykhai naa pavai sabhaa pooj khu-aar. ||2||
even so, if he not accepted in the Court of God, then all this adoration is useless.
Hata hivyo, iwapo hajakubalika katika Mahakama ya Mungu, badi ibada hii yote ni bure.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
jin ka-o satgur thaapi-aa tin mayt na sakai ko-ay.
No one can overthrow those who have been established by the True Guru.
Hakuna mtu anaweza kupindua wale ambao wameimarishwa na Guru wa Kweli.

ਓਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
onaa andar naam niDhaan hai naamo pargat ho-ay.
The Treasure of the Naam, is within them, and through the Naam, they are honorable and famous.
Hazina ya Naam, ipo ndani mwao, na kupitia Naam, wao wanaenziwa nao ni maarufu.

ਨਾਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਅਖੰਡੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
naa-o poojee-ai naa-o mannee-ai akhand sadaa sach so-ay. ||3||
They always worship God’s Name with loving devotion, and have full faith in Him Who is complete and everlasting.
Daima wanaabudu Jina la Mungu kwa ujitoaji wa upendo, na wana imani kamili kwake Yeye ambaye ni Kamili na anadumu milele.

ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਜੀਉ ਕੇਹਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
khayhoo khayh ralaa-ee-ai taa jee-o kayhaa ho-ay.
When the body mingles with dust, what happens to the soul?
Wakati mwili unachanganyikana na mchanga, ni kipi kinatendekea roho?

ਜਲੀਆ ਸਭਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਰੋਇ ॥
jalee-aa sabh si-aanpaa uthee chali-aa ro-ay.
The soul departs crying, and all cleverness is burnt away.
Roho inaondoka ikilia, na uwerevu wote unateketezwa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਦਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak naam visaari-ai dar ga-i-aa ki-aa ho-ay. ||4||8||
O Nanak, those who forsake Naam-what will happen when they go to the Court of God?
Ee Nanak, wale wanaoacha Naam-ni kipi kitatendeka wakati wanaenda kwa Mahakama ya Mungu?

ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਵੀਥਰੈ ਅਉਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਝੂਰਿ ॥
gunvantee gun veethrai a-ugunvantee jhoor.
The virtuous soul-bride always contemplate on the virtues of God and the one engrossed with vices, suffer in misery.
Roho-bi harusi mwema daima anatafakari kuhusu fadhila za Mungu na yule aliyevama katika maovu, anateseka kwa taabu.

ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਵਰੁ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪਿਰ ਕੂਰਿ ॥
jay lorheh var kaamnee nah milee-ai pir koor.
O’ soul-bride, if you long for your Master God, you must know that He is not realized by falsehood.
Ee roho-bi harusi, iwapo unatamani Bwana Mungu wako, lazima ujue kwamba Yeye hagunduliwi kwa udanganyifu.

ਨਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ ਨਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
naa bayrhee naa tulharhaa naa paa-ee-ai pir door. ||1||
(you are drowning in the world ocean of attachments and if you have you have not remembered God) you have no means to cross this world-ocean of vices.
(unazama katika bahari dunia ya viambatisho na iwapo hujamkumbuka Mungu) hauna mbinu ya kuvuka bahari-dunia hii ya dhambi.

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਅਡੋਲੁ ॥
mayray thaakur poorai takhat adol.
My perfect God is serenely seated on the eternal throne.
Mungu wangu kamili ameketi kwa kiti cha enzi cha milele kwa utulivu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh pooraa jay karay paa-ee-ai saach atol. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If by Guru’s grace a person becomes perfect (full of merit), that person attains the infinite God.
Iwapo kwa neema ya Guru mtu awe kamili (amejawa na ustahili), mtu huyo anatimiza Mungu asiye na mwisho.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਰਿਮੰਦਰੁ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕ ਲਾਲ ॥ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟ ਰੀਸਾਲ ॥
parabh harmandar sohnaa tis meh maanak laal. motee heeraa nirmalaa kanchan kot reesaal.
God is (like) a beautiful temple studded with rubies and jewels, filled with all kinds of pearls and diamonds, and surrounded by pleasing forts made of gold.
Mungu ni (kama) hekalu nzuri iliyopambwa na yakuti na vito, iliyojawa na aina zote za lulu na almasi, na kuzungukwa na ngome za kupendeza zilizotengenezwa kwa dhahabu.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਉੜੀ ਗੜਿ ਕਿਉ ਚੜਉ ਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥
bin pa-orhee garh ki-o charha-o gur har Dhi-aan nihaal. ||2||
How can that soul bride climb up that fort without a ladder? By meditating on God’s Name through the Guru’s word, she can have the bliss of beholding God.
Roho-bi harusi huyo anawezaje kupanda ngome hiyo bila ngazi? Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kupitia neno la Guru, yeye anaweza kuwa na raha tele ya kumtazama Mungu.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਉੜੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
gur pa-orhee bayrhee guroo gur tulhaa har naa-o.
The Guru is the Ladder, the Guru is the Boat, and the Guru is the Raft to take us across this world-ocean of vices which separates us from God.
Guru ndiye Ngazi, Guru ndiye Mashua, na Guru ndiye Chelezo cha kutuvukisha bahari-dunia hii ya dhambi inayotutenganisha kutoka kwa Mungu.

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥
gur sar saagar bohitho gur tirath daree-aa-o.
The Guru is the Boat to carry us across the world-ocean of vices; the Guru is the Sacred Shrine of Pilgrimage, the Guru is the Holy River
Guru ndiye Mashua ya kutubeba kuvuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi; Guru ndiye Ziara Takatifu ya Hija, Guru ndiye Mto Mtakatifu

ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਊਜਲੀ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣ ਜਾਉ ॥੩॥
jay tis bhaavai oojlee sat sar naavan jaa-o. ||3||
If it pleases God, the intellect of the soul-bride becomes pure by bathing in the spiritual pool (joining the holy congregation).
Iwapo inapendeza Mungu, uwekevu wa roho-bi harusi unakuwa safi kwa kuoga katika kidimbwi cha kiroho (kujiunga na ushirika mtakatifu).

ਪੂਰੋ ਪੂਰੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
pooro pooro aakhee-ai poorai takhat nivaas.
He is called the Most Perfect of the Perfect. He sits upon His Perfect Throne.
Yeye anaitwa Kamili kabisa kwa wote. Yeye anakalia Kiti chake cha Enzi kilicho Kamili.

ਪੂਰੈ ਥਾਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥
poorai thaan suhaavnai poorai aas niraas.
He is perfect and His place is beautiful and perfect. He fulfills the hopes of the hopeless.
Yeye ni kamili na mahali pake ni pazuri na kamili. Yeye anatimiza matumaini ya waliokata tamaa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਉ ਘਾਟੈ ਗੁਣ ਤਾਸ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak pooraa jay milai ki-o ghaatai gun taas. ||4||9||
O’ Nanak, if one realizes the Perfect God how can his virtues decrease?
Ee Nanak, iwapo mtu agundue Mungu kamili fadhila zake zinawezaje kupungua?

ਆਵਹੁ ਭੈਣੇ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਹ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਹੇਲੜੀਆਹ ॥
aavhu bhainay gal milah ank sahaylrhee-aah.
O’ my sisters and spiritual companions; let us meet and embrace one another
Ee dada zangu na wendani wa kiroho; hebu tukutane na kukumbatiana

ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਹ ਕਹਾਣੀਆ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਕੰਤ ਕੀਆਹ ॥
mil kai karah kahaanee-aa samrath kant kee-aah.
Let’s join together, and tell stories of our All-powerful Master-God.
Hebu tuungane pamoja, na kusimulia hadithi za Bwana-Mungu wetu mwenye nguvu zote.

ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਅਉਗਣ ਸਭਿ ਅਸਾਹ ॥੧॥
saachay saahib sabh gun a-ugan sabh asaah. ||1||
All Virtues are in our True God and Master; we are utterly without virtue.
Fadhila zote zipo kwa Bwana na Mungu wetu wa kweli; sisi hatuna fadhila yoyote.

ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਜੋਰਿ ॥
kartaa sabh ko tayrai jor.
O Creator everything is within Your Power.
Ee Muumba kila kitu kipo katika Nguvu yako.

ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਜਾ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayk sabad beechaaree-ai jaa too taa ki-aa hor. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When one reflects on Your virtues then one understands that if You are on our protector then no one can harm us.
Wakati mtu anawaza kwa makini kuhusu fadhila zako basi mtu anaelewa kwamba iwapo Wewe ndiwe mlinzi wetu hakuna anayeweza kutudhuru.

ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤੁਸੀ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਕਿਨੀ ਗੁਣੀ ॥
jaa-ay puchhahu sohaaganee tusee raavi-aa kinee gunee.
O’ my friends, go ask the happy soul-brides. By what qualities did you please your Master God?
Ee marafiki wangu, nendeni mkaulize roho-bi harusi wenye furaha. Mlipendeza Bwana Mungu kwa sifa gani?

ਸਹਜਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਆ ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਣੀ ॥
sahj santokh seegaaree-aa mithaa bolnee.
They will answer ‘We have embellished ourselves with equipoise, contentment and humility.
Watajibu “Tumejipamba kwa usawa, utoshelezaji na unyenyekevu”.

ਪਿਰੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਤਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣੀ ॥੨॥
pir reesaaloo taa milai jaa gur kaa sabad sunee. ||2||
We realize our Beloved Master, the Source of true Joy, when we listen to the Word of the Guru.
Tunagundua Bwana wetu Mpendwa, ambaye ndiye Chanzo cha furaha ya kweli, wakati tunasikiliza Neno la Guru.
